First
Jewish wedding held in Bahrain in more than half a century

------
The
first Jewish wedding in 52 years has been held in Bahrain, a year after the
US-brokered Abraham Accords.
The
event at the Ritz Carlton Manama, ordained by the Association of Gulf Jewish
Communities (AGJC, was also the first strictly kosher wedding in the Kingdom’s
history and was arranged by the Orthodox Union, the world’s largest kosher
certification agency.
For
all the latest headlines follow our Google News channel online or via the app.
Ambassador
Houda Nonoo, the former Bahraini Ambassador to the US, tweeted about the
wedding noting that the couple who got married are her son and daughter-in-law.
The nuptials took place on Sunday.
AGJC
Rabbi Dr. Eli Abadie said: “All weddings are exciting events as we celebrate
the creation of a new Jewish family.’
“This
wedding was even more significant as it was the first Jewish wedding in more
than half a century in the GCC’s only indigenous Jewish community.”
“I
was honored to officiate the wedding. It is so fulfilling for me to see a
resurgence of Jewish life in this region and to assist families throughout the
region pray and experience lifecycle events in the GCC.”
Dating
back to the 1880s, the Bahrain Jewish community is the only indigenous Jewish
community in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and has the only
operational synagogue (House of Ten Commandments) and Jewish cemetery in the
region.
The
weekend included two additional ceremonies, a Shabbat Chatan and a Henna
ceremony, the latter of which is customary in Sephardic Jewish communities.
The
wedding is part of a series of Jewish lifecycle events that the AGJC has
facilitated since its inception in February 2021, including a bat mitzvah in
Oman and a bar mitzvah in Bahrain.
“This
wedding was an important moment for our family, the community here in Bahrain,
and more broadly, for the Jewish community in the region,” said AGJC President
Ebrahim Dawood Nonoo. “The atmosphere was euphoric as we sat around the Chuppah
(Jewish wedding canopy) which symbolizes the new home being built by the
couple, it was also symbolic of the opportunity to further grow Jewish life in
the region.”
“It
is our hope that we will host more Jewish weddings in the region which will
lead to more young couples starting their families here and the further growth
of our community,” added Nonoo.
Bahrain
and Gulf neighbor United Arab Emirates normalized relations with Israel last
year in the Abraham Accords that built on shared business interests and worries
about Iran. Sudan and Morocco followed suit.

Israel
Demolishes Muslim Graves near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Eastern Jerusalem
Mustafa
Deveci and Esat Firat
10.10.2021
JERUSALEM,
Palestine
The
Jerusalem Municipality, which is administered by Israel, on Sunday destroyed
Muslim graves near the Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied eastern Jerusalem.
Several
graves at the Al-Yusufiye Cemetery near the Al-Aqsa mosque were demolished by
the municipality's engineering vehicles in the Old City.
After
Palestinians gathered on reports of bones found at the cemetery during the
demolition operation, the municipality vehicles left the scene.
Ahmed
al-Dajani, executive director of the Commission for the Protection of Muslim
Graves, told Anadolu Agency that an Israeli court has given the Israeli
Archeology Directorate permission to work on a site close to the graveyard.
He
said among the graves demolished were those of Muslims who were martyred in the
conflicts between 1948 and 1967, and that Israel will face legal action in
response to the municipality's act.
While
the region is an indispensable part of the cemetery, the Jerusalem Municipality
under Israeli administration has planned to build a park close to Al-Yusufiye
Cemetery, he added.
Al-Yusufiye
Cemetery, located next to the wall surrounding the Old City, is one of the
oldest Muslim graveyards in occupied Jerusalem.
Earlier,
the Jerusalem Municipality attempted to demolish a historic staircase that led
to the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque, but the move was later prevented by the
Palestinians.
Both
the West Bank and East Jerusalem are considered occupied areas under
international law.

October ,2021
US
Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet his Israeli and UAE counterparts
next week to discuss the Abraham Accords and regional security, the State
Department said on Saturday.
Blinken
will meet with Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and UAE Foreign Minister
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed on Wednesday in bilateral and trilateral meetings.
“They

future opportunities for collaboration, and bilateral issues including regional
security and stability,” the State Department said.
Blinken
had pledged last month on the first anniversary of the Abraham Accords to
continue encouraging Arab countries to normalize relations with Israel.
“We
want to widen the circle of peaceful diplomacy, because it’s in the interests
of countries across the region and around the world for Israel to be treated
like any other country. Normalization leads to greater stability, more cooperation,
mutual progress – all things the region and the world need very badly right
now,” he said.

Protests
In Malaysia Against Hate-Mongering Muslim Cleric Ustaz Syakir Nasoha
October
11, 2021
A
leading interfaith forum has joined religious minorities in Malaysia to lodge a
strong protest against a Muslim cleric who is accused of spreading hatred
against minority groups on social media.
In
a statement, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity,
Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) called for strict action against Ustaz
Syakir Nasoha for a controversial sermon on social media site TikTok, reports
Herald Malaysia.
Syakir
is Muslim preacher based in Kedah state with a track record of spewing hate
speech against minority groups.
The
MCCBCHST said in a one-minute viral video released on Oct. 2 that Syakir
claimed that in the “last days on earth” the enemies of Islam will swarm
Muslims like how crowds of people swarm a tray of food, and this is how the
“non-believers or kafir [infidels] are swarming Muslims today.” He said
Buddhists and Hindus are bombing mosques and killing Muslims in Thailand, India
and Pakistan.
Syakir
has released other hate-mongering videos, reported The Vibes. The viral video
on TikTok was taken from a long sermon broadcast on March 17 by Ar-Rahman TV.
In December 2017, he released a video of a sermon he delivered at the Abu Bakar
As-Siddiq mosque in Kedah state that was accused of breaching peace and causing
harm to Malaysians.
The
MCCBCHST said it was “deeply perturbed at the extremist, racist and
hatred-filled video clips by the Kedah-based preacher against other religions.”
“The
videos aim at sowing hatred and inciting Muslims against Hindus, Buddhists and
the Dayak community as well as against other non-Muslim religions. This is
equivalent to instigating harm against peaceful Malaysians. The ustaz is a
threat to the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of Malaysians,” the group
said.
The
MCCBHST pointed that the preacher’s words are an offense under Section 298A of
the Penal Code and under the Communication and Multimedia Act — spreading
ill-will among different faiths in Malaysia.
It
urged Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and relevant authorities to take stern
action against Syakir in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile,
protests have erupted in various parts of Malaysia with minority and rights
groups calling for the preacher to be punished.
Thousands
of police reports were being lodged against Syakir in 17 districts nationwide
including Sabah and Sarawak states, local media reports say.
The
Vibes reported that 3,000 police reports were underway. Global Human Rights
Federation president S. Shashi Kumar said several non-governmental
organizations, civil society groups and activists would file cases.
“We,
the non-Muslims, are fed up of being targeted. Enough is enough. This is a
deliberate attack on non-Muslims. So, we are lodging these police reports
because we want this preacher to be arrested immediately and charged,” Shashi
said after filing a case at Sentul district police headquarters.
“There
are many cases where those who insult and defame non-Muslims are only arrested
but not charged.”
Shashi
also urged the government to table a bill in parliament to stop religious and
racial hatred to protect the unity and harmony of all Malaysians.
Malaysia
is multi-ethnic and multi-religious country with its constitution declaring it
a secular state. However, observers note there has been a creeping radicalism
within powerful segments of the Malay Muslim-majority community that aim to
assert a strong Islamic identity for the nation.
According
to 2018 government estimates, more than 60 percent of some 32 million
Malaysians are Muslims, about 20 percent are Buddhists, 10 percent Christians
and 6 percent Hindus.

Taliban
say US will provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan
11
October ,2021
The
US has agreed to provide humanitarian aid to a desperately poor Afghanistan on
the brink of an economic disaster, while refusing to give political recognition
to the country’s new Taliban rulers, the Taliban said Sunday.
The
statement came at the end of the first direct talks between the former foes
since the chaotic withdrawal of US troops at the end of August.
The
US statement was less definitive, saying only that the two sides “discussed the
US’ provision of robust humanitarian assistance, directly to the Afghan
people.”
The
Taliban said the talks held in Doha, Qatar, “went well,” with Washington
freeing up humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after agreeing not to link such
assistance to formal recognition of the Taliban.
The
US made it clear that the talks were in no way a preamble to recognition of the
Taliban, who swept into power Aug. 15 after the US-allied government collapsed.
State
Department spokesman Ned Price called the discussions “candid and
professional,” with the US side reiterating that the Taliban will be judged on
their actions, not only their words.
“The
US delegation focused on security and terrorism concerns and safe passage for
US citizens, other foreign nationals and our Afghan partners, as well as on
human rights, including the meaningful participation of women and girls in all
aspects of Afghan society,” he said in a statement.
Taliban
political spokesman Suhail Shaheen also told The Associated Press that the movement’s
interim foreign minister assured the US during the talks that the Taliban are
committed to seeing that Afghan soil is not used by extremists to launch
attacks against other countries.
On
Saturday, however, the Taliban ruled out cooperation with Washington on
containing the increasingly active ISIS group in Afghanistan.
ISIS,
an enemy of the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for a number of recent
attacks, including Friday’s suicide bombing that killed 46 minority Shia
Muslims. Washington considers ISIS its greatest terrorist threat emanating from
Afghanistan.
“We
are able to tackle Daesh independently,” Shaheen said when asked whether the
Taliban would work with the US to contain the ISIS affiliate. He used an Arabic
acronym for ISIS.
Bill
Roggio, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies who tracks
militant groups, agreed the Taliban do not need Washington’s help to hunt down
and destroy Afghanistan’s ISIS affiliate, known as the ISKP.
The
Taliban “fought 20 years to eject the US, and the last thing it needs is the
return of the US. It also doesn’t need US help,” said Roggio, who also produces
the foundation’s Long War Journal. “The Taliban has to conduct the difficult
and time-consuming task of rooting out ISKP cells and its limited
infrastructure. It has all the knowledge and tools it needs to do it.”

Afghan
doctors protest for their 14-month unpaid salaries in Kabul
Oct
11, 2021
KANUL:
Hundreds of doctors including females from Samangan and Nuristan provinces
gathered at the gate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan
(UNAMA) in Kabul and asked the World Bank to pay their pending salaries for the
past 14 months. Khaama Press reported that the protestors complained that not
only their salaries have been paid but the clinics in their respective
provinces are confronting a dire shortage of medicine.
They
also accused an Afghan contractor of World Bank - Asad Fayaz- who has fled the
country and has taken money from World Bank but have not been paid to them, as
per the publication.
Fayaz
had a two-year health contract in the provinces and was providing health
services, medicines, and salaries of doctors, they said.
"Asad
Fayaz has fled Afghanistan and stole our money. He was leading a corrupt firm
and that caused an increase in the mortality of children and mothers in
Samangan and Nuristan provinces," Khaama Press reported quoting a
protestor.
In
a statement, the doctors said that since the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has
no relations with the World Bank and cannot ask for money, asked the bank to
directly pay their money through Afghanistan's health ministry or other NGOs.
In
the meantime, the doctors warned of continuation of protests in case their
salaries are not paid.

Saudi
Arabia calls on UN Security Council to hold Houthi militia accountable
10
October ,2021
Saudi
Arabia on Saturday called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to
hold the Iran-backed Houthi militia accountable in accordance with
international law for their ongoing attacks against civilians in the Kingdom,
the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
“The
Kingdom will spare no effort in taking all necessary measures to protect its
lands and preserve the safety of its citizens and residents, according to its
obligations under international law,” the Permanent Representative of Saudi
Arabia to the UN, Ambassador Abdallah al-Mouallimi, said in a message sent to
the UN Security Council.
In
the letter, the ambassador wrote about the continuation of “terrorist attacks
perpetrated by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia against civilians
and civilian objects in the Kingdom.”
Al-Mouallimi
said that an October 8 attack by the Houthi militia on Saudi Arabia’s Jazan
airport resulted in the injury of ten civilian passengers and airport
employees, as well as material damage to the airport.
The
deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure and threatening innocent
civilians could amount to a war crime, the Permanent Representative of Saudi
Arabia to the UN said in the letter, adding that the Houthi militia “must be
held accountable in accordance with international law.”

Iran’s
President Raisi claims US ‘plot’ behind ISIS attack on Afghanistan’s mosque
09
October ,2021
Iran’s
President Ebrahim Raisi claimed on Saturday that the suicide bombing which
targeted a Shia mosque in Afghanistan was a “plot” by the US to sow “ethnic
sedition” in the country.
ISIS
had claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in Afghanistan which
targeted Shia Muslims in a mosque on Friday.
For
the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.
The
attack killed at least 46 people and injured more than a 140 in Afghanistan’s
northeastern Kunduz province. The extremist group said that an ISIS suicide
bomber “detonated an explosive vest amid a crowd” of Shia worshippers who had
gathered inside the mosque.
The
attack was the deadliest one in Afghanistan since US forces withdrew from
Afghanistan when ISIS had targeted Kabul airport with a bombing on August 26
that claimed the lives of 169 Afghans and 13 US servicemen.
Since
the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan on August 15, ISIS has ramped up its
attacks in the country, targeting Taliban members and Afghan citizens with
several bombings, including two deadly ones in Kabul.
Raisi
said: “This crime which was committed with the aim of sowing division among
Muslims was committed by those whose anti-human and anti-religious nature is
clear to everyone. The US has facilitated the expansion of the activities of
ISIS criminals in Afghanistan and prevented up-rooting them,” according to Mehr
news agency.

AEOI
Chief: Iran to Continue Paving Path of peaceful Nuclear Technology
2021-October-10
"We
tried to mention Iran’s positions, approaches and policies to the world and
clearly told the IAEA that we do not like their selective behavior and they
should block the path of political influence; our criteria are law, safeguards
and NPT to which we are committed," Eslami said on Saturday night while
addressing a live TV program.
The
AEOI chief pointed out that peaceful nuclear activities against the
proliferation of nuclear weapons are among the joint commitments by countries
and are established based on regulations introduced by the IAEA.
Eslami
said that the JCPOA cameras are different from those set up by Safeguards and
no one will have access to safeguard cameras’ information after being reviewed
by IAEA inspectors.
In
relevant remarks on Friday, Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi underlined
his country's peaceful use of the nuclear technology, and said Tehran is
resolved to continue the same path in future.
"Nuclear
knowledge in the future will determine the remarkable scientific development
and progress of countries, and we should not lag behind the world's scientific
movement," the Iranian president said in the southern province of Bushehr
on Friday.
He
reiterated that Iran needs wise and purposeful planning for the sustainable
development of the nuclear industry based on the latest international standards
in order to stand at the top economic, scientific and technological position in
the region.
"The
necessary mechanism has been developed in this regard and provided to the
Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI)," President Rayeesi added.
He,
meantime, said that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is currently operating at
its nominal capacity and producing over 1,000 megawatts of electricity, but the
figure would be tripled in its development phases.
"One
of the important missions of the Atomic Energy Organization is to increase the
country's electricity generation capacity to up to 10,000 megawatts which will
be materialized within the next three years," the Iranian president
further said.
In
a relevant development last week, Eslami said Tehran would continue the
development of its peaceful nuclear program to meet its acute need for
electricity and produce radiopharmaceuticals to be used in medicine, industry,
agriculture, and the environment.
"Iran
is now facing an acute need for electricity. Therefore, we have set a goal to
meet 50 percent of the country’s demand for 10,000-16,000 MW of electricity by
building new nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 8,000 MW. This is
currently the principal objective of the Atomic Energy Organization of
Iran," Iran’s nuclear chief said.

President
Raayeesi: US Supports Terrorists to Carry Out Attack in Afghanistan
2021-October-9
President
Rayeesi extended his condolences to the people of Afghanistan and to all humanity
on the martyrdom and injury of a large number of innocent people of
Afghanistan.
"This
crime which was committed with the aim of sowing division among Muslims was
committed by those whose anti-human and anti-religious nature is clear to
everyone," the Iranian president said in his message.
President
Rayeesi, meantime, blamed the US for backing the takfiri terrorist groups, and
said, "The United States has facilitated the expansion of the activities
of ISIL criminals in Afghanistan and prevented up-rooting them."
The
Iranian president, meantime, expressed concern over the continuation of
terrorist acts and the combination.

Iran
has 120 kilograms of 20 percent enriched uranium: Head of Atomic Agency
10
October ,2021
Iran
has enriched more than 120 kilograms of 20-percent enriched uranium, the head
of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mohammad Eslami, said on Saturday.
“We
have passed 120 kilograms. We have more than that figure,” state news agency
IRNA quoted him as saying.
“Our
people know well that they [Western powers] were meant to give us the enriched
fuel at 20 percent to use in the Tehran reactor, but they haven't done so. If
our colleagues do not do it, we would naturally have problems with the lack of
fuel for the Tehran reactor,” Eslami said.
He
reiterated Tehran’s long-standing stance of saying its nuclear program was for
peaceful purposes and stressed that Iran was only looking after its “national
interests.”
The
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported last month that Iran had
84.3 kilograms of uranium enriched to 20 percent.
Analysis
by the Institute for Science and International Security of IAEA data last month
estimated that Iran has gained the capability to produce enough fuel needed for
a single nuclear warhead within approximately a month.
Under
the abandoned 2015 nuclear deal, Iran was only allowed to enrich uranium up to
3.67 percent, way below the 90 percent required for weapons-grade uranium.
However,
after former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the accord and imposed
sanctions on Iran, Tehran began aggressively enriching uranium.

Security
chief endorses $169m theft charge against Ghani
Anwar
Iqbal
October
11, 2021
WASHINGTON:
As a US government agency probes claims that former Afghan president Ashraf
Ghani took with him $169 million while fleeing Kabul, a senior member of his
security staff said on Sunday that he has video proof of the alleged theft.
Brigadier
General Piraz Ata Sharifi, who headed Mr Ghani’s bodyguard, said in an
interview that he not only saw huge bags of cash being transferred but also
acquired a video clip from a CCTV camera.
“One
of my jobs was to disarm the soldiers on guard at the ministry before the
president arrived, for his security,” Mr Sharifi told the Daily Mail Online
from a hideout in Afghanistan. Mr Sharifi, wanted by the Taliban for
interrogation, is hiding at an undisclosed location in Afghanistan. The Taliban
have announced a reward of one million Afghanis for his arrest.
“We
were waiting for the president there. But then I got a call to say that instead
of coming to the defence ministry, the president went to the airport. The
defence minister had also fled. So had my boss. So had all of Mr Ghani’s close
family and entourage,” he said.
Sharifi
claims ex-Afghan president stole hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of
dollars before fleeing
“I
have a [CCTV] recording [from the palace] which shows that an individual at the
Afghan Bank brought a lot of money to Mr Ghani before he left,” Mr Sharifi
claimed. “Hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of dollars. There were many
big bags, and they were heavy.”
He
said he was disappointed as he liked Mr Ghani. “This money was for the currency
exchange market.
Each
Thursday, the dollars were brought for that purpose. Instead, it was taken by
the president. Mr Ghani knew in the end what would happen. So, he took all the
money and escaped.”
Mr
Ghani, however, has denied the allegation that he left Kabul with four cars and
a chopper full of $169 million, adding that he left Afghanistan unceremoniously
to avoid a bloodshed. His abrupt departure allowed the Taliban to take Kabul
two weeks before the US troop pullout.
Earlier
this week, the US government’s inspector general in charge of investigating
misuse of aid money in Afghanistan told Congress he’s “looking into” claims
that Mr Ghani and his subordinates stole millions of dollars before fleeing.
“We
haven’t proven that yet. We’re looking into that,” Inspector General John Sopko
said during a House hearing on Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON
A
US delegation held "candid and professional" discussions with the
Taliban in Qatar this weekend, the State Department said Sunday.
In
a statement, spokesman Ned Price said the interagency delegation met with
senior Taliban representatives in the capital Doha on Saturday and Sunday,
their first meeting since the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in August.
"The
U.S. delegation focused on security and terrorism concerns and safe passage for
U.S. citizens, other foreign nationals and our Afghan partners, as well as on
human rights, including the meaningful participation of women and girls in all
aspects of Afghan society," said Price.
The
two sides also discussed the US' provision of robust humanitarian assistance
directly to the Afghan people.
The
delegation reiterated that "the Taliban will be judged on its actions, not
only its words," the statement said.
Earlier
in the day, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the foreign minister in the interim Taliban
Cabinet, said the meeting tackled bilateral relations between Kabul and
Washington, implementation of the Doha agreement, humanitarian aid and Afghan

Don’t
forget task force for Indira Gandhi’s stolen daughter, lawyers tell Putrajaya
11
Oct 2021
BY
KENNETH TEE
KUALA
LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Lawyers representing Hindu mother M. Indira Gandhi today urged
the government to establish an independent task force to investigate the
authorities’ failure to locate her ex-husband and her daughter.
The
call follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri’s recent announcement by
the Cabinet regarding the formation of one special committee and two task
forces to investigate fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s death, Tommy Thomas’
allegations and the Pulau Batu Puteh case.
“It
is noted with much regret that the case of Indira Gandhi and her daughter
Prasana who was abducted is an ongoing saga with no end in sight. Indira’s
daughter is yet to be found. It has been 12 years since mother and daughter
were separated.
“In
light of the above task forces, Indira urges the Prime Minister to set up an
independent task force comprised of former judges to investigate the PDRM’s
ineffectiveness in locating her ex-husband and the return of her daughter.
“It
is beyond reason that the PDRM has made no progress in the last seven years
since the Ipoh High Court Order in 2014,” lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and
Sachpreetraj Singh Sohanpal said in a joint statement.
PDRM
is the Malay initials for the Royal Malaysia Police.
The
lawyers highlighted a 2014 High Court mandamus order compelling the police to
search for, retrieve and reunite P. Prasana Diksa with her mother who last saw
her as an infant.
They
further pointed out that the mandamus also compelled PDRM to enforce a
committal order to arrest and commit Indira’s ex-husband, K. Pathmanathan who
now known by the Muslim name Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, to prison, which is
still pending to date.
Muhammad
Riduan embraced Islam in 2009 and unilaterally converted all three of his
children with Indira on April 2 that year without their mother’s knowledge.
They had been raised as Hindus all along.

Oct

PRAYAGRAJ:
It’s not about a blush-up on cheeks or a mere titivation with a cosmetic splash
before arc lights shift. Mohammad Hameed’s job is more meticulous, painstaking
and takes hours of hard work behind the curtains.
The
lone Muslim makeup artist in Sangam City’s oldest Patharchatti Ramleela
committee, who also worked in the Anupam Kher-starrer, Laila Majnu, knows that
his job in the Ramleela is not about glamour, but to recreate the epic characters
of Ram, Sita, Hanuman or Ravan on stage.
Associated
with the Ramleela committee for two decades, when he would enact roles of
Parshuram and Kevat, Hameed, 45, began donning the role a makeup of artist
since eight years. “As I earlier played roles of Parushram, Kevat and Sugreev
in different Ramleelas in Sangam city, I understand the significance of makeup.
It has to be an impeccable job and goes beyond beautifying artists,” he said.
“We
begin work at least four hours before the Ramleela is enacted every day and
attend to artistes till the show ends. The objective is not to slicken the hair
or dabble in paint, but to bring alive the celestial characters before the
audience. Our job becomes hectic when there are several characters at a time on
stage and deadlines become stringent,” said Hameed.

Ten-Year-Old
Muslim Boy Enters Dasna Devi Temple, Cops Say He Lost His Way But Priest Yati
Narsinghanand Alleges Conspiracy
October

A
10-year-old Muslim boy, who had “accidentally wandered” into the Dasna Devi
temple in Ghaziabad, was handed over to the Ghaziabad police by priest Yati
Narsinghanand.
Earlier
this year, a 14-year-old Muslim boy was assaulted by a man who performed ‘sewa’
at the temple when he entered the premises to drink water. The temple has also
placed a poster at its entrance stating that the entry of Muslims on the
premises is banned.
Several
cases have been registered against the priest Narsinghanand, including that of
promoting enmity by allegedly using disparaging words against the Prophet at a
Delhi event held in April this year, allegedly making objectionable comments
against women in politics and also for intimidation.
He
handed over the 10-year-old to the police and alleged that the minor was
snooping around and carrying out a ‘recce’ at the temple. “We have handed over
the boy to the police. He has not been touched and no one has attacked him… He
was here to recce the temple to execute a conspiracy,” said Narsinghanand in a
video.

Won't
allow single 'Bangladeshi Muslim' to remain in Assam, says state Assembly
Deputy Speaker
Hemanta
Kumar Nath
October
11, 2021
Assam
Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin on Sunday said that the current
BJP-led government will not allow a single "Bangladeshi Muslim" to
remain in the state and evict all encroachers.
He
accused the Congress party and Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic
Front (AIUDF) of working with a hidden agenda to make Assam "a separate
Islamic state."
Speaking
exclusively to Aajtak/India Today TV, Numal Momin said, “Our commitment is that
not a single Bangladeshi Muslim will be allowed to stay in Assam. We will
continue our eviction drive till we remove them from the state.”
Alleging
that Congress is indulging in appeasement politics, the Bokajan BJP MLA said,
"Congress divided India as Muslim country and India. When India was
divided in 1947, there was an agreement that both countries would play a
neutral role and would not disturb other religious people. But what happened?
Pakistan became a Muslim country, Bangladesh became a Muslim country."
"During
Indira Gandhi's regime, they put the word ‘secularism’ in the constitution of
India. From that time, they have been playing Muslim appeasement politics. They
[Congress] are playing appeasement politics in the entire country and they have
divided India for that appeasement only. They are also playing similar politics
in Assam,” Numal Momin said.
'
Indigenous Assamese people were harassed by Congress'
He
further alleged that the Congress party had brought Bangladeshi Muslims to
Assam and during the Congress regime the indigenous people of Assam were
harassed.
“During
the Congress regime in Assam, the indigenous people were displaced. Earlier,
most of the parts of Lower Assam were dominated by the indigenous people, but
now these areas are dominated by Muslims. Now tactically, scientifically, they
have intruded into people from Bangladesh and these people have occupied the
lands of indigenous people. They are not only satisfied with that, they are
trying to make Assam an Islamic state,” Numal Momin said.

Muslim
Family Attacked 'for Not Leaving Village' in Indore, Police File Counter-FIR
Against Victims
Kashif

October
11, 2021
Bhopal:
A Muslim family of eight was allegedly attacked by a mob armed with iron rods
chanting religious slogans on Saturday evening in Indore’s Kampel locality,
after the family refused to leave the village dominated by the Hindu community.
There is only one Muslim family living in the village
The
victims are blacksmith by profession who had moved to Indore’s Kampel two years
ago and run an agricultural equipment repairing workshop on the outskirts of
the Pewday village.
According
to the Indore police, the incident took place 22 km away from the Indore
district headquarters in Pewday village, which falls under the Khudel police
station, on Saturday at around 8 pm. The attackers left five people of the
family gravely injured. They were referred to the Indore’s MY Hospital for
treatment.
Based
on a complaint from one of the victim, Shahrukh Lohar (25), the Khudel police
registered the FIR against nine people of the Hindu community under Sections
323, 294, 506, 427, 147 and 148 of the Indian Penal Code almost eight hours
after the incident. “Nine people have been booked under various sections of the
IPC based on the complaint of the Muslim family,” said sub-inspector Vishwajeet
Tomar, who is also the investigating officer of the case. “No arrests have been
made yet.”

The
police, however, registered a counter FIR against the victim Muslim family
based on a complaint from Vikash Singh, a shopkeeper, who hails from Kampel
village hours after the first FIR. In his police complaint, Vikash claimed that
he has given Rs 75,000 to the Muslim family to built a tractor trolley two
months ago which they failed to deliver. Dispute over money led to the violence,
he alleged.
“An
FIR has been registered against five people of the Muslim family for
assaulting, rioting under Sections 323, 294, 506, 147 and 148 of the IPC. But
no arrest has been made,” said investigating officer Tomar.
When
asked about the family’s allegation that the attackers were associated with the
RSS and had been threatening them for months, Tomar denied having received any
such information.
Speaking
to The Wire over the phone, Vikash said, “I gave Rs 75,000 cash to Farooque to
make a tractor trolley almost two months ago. When he did not deliver it, I
went to inquire. Instead of returning money or a trolley, he began to hurl
abuses which led to the incident.”
He
denied any association with right-wing groups and the allegations that people
had been threatening the Muslim family.
The
former sarpanch of the village, Subhash Choudhary, however, told The Wire that
Vikash is associated with the RSS and often goes to shakhas. “Almost two weeks
ago, my younger brother who has a close friendship with the Muslim family had a
scuffle with Vikash for threatening them. The issue settled down between them
after the police’s intervention.”

Ehtesham
Hashmi, an advocate practicing in the

dilly-dallying in registering an FIR, alleged, “When the police were not
registering an FIR, they [the Muslim family] called me and I visited the
village, accompanying Congress spokesperson Ameen-ul-Khan Suri and Congress
Indore’s minority wing head Irfan Shaikh. We urged the police to register the
FIR, which then happened late at night.”
Claiming
that the FIR against the Muslim family is baseless, he pointed out, “This is
not the first time when the Indore police is trying to protect the accused by
framing the victim in false cases. Initially, the police refused to register
the FIR, when pressured, they refused to lodge the complaint based on the
written complaint of the victims. Later they registered the FIR for assault and
rioting. There is no mention of an attack owing to religious identity. By the
morning, police registered a counter FIR by the name of one of the accused
under almost the same charges. The police did the same in bangle seller Tasleem
Ali’s case.”

NIA
Raids At 16 Places In Jammu And Kashmir In 'ISIS-Voice Of Hind' And Bathindi
IED Recovery Cases
Oct
10, 2021
NEW
DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday carried out searches
at 16 places in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with two cases-- 'ISIS-Voice of
Hind' case and the 'Bathindi IED recovery' case.
The
anti-terror agency carried out simultaneous searches in various districts in
the Union Territory with the assistance of the Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The
NIA had also conducted searches at two locations in Karnataka's Bhatkal and
arrested key accused Jufri Jawhar Damudi in the 'ISIS-Voice of Hind' case.
The
case was registered on June 29 this year in connection with the conspiracy of
the proscribed terrorist organization the Islamic State (ISIS) to radicalise
and recruit impressionable Muslim youth in India to wage violent jihad against
India.
NIA
said that ISIS terrorists operating from various conflict zones along with ISIS
cadres in India have created a network by assuming pseudo-online identities
wherein ISIS-related propaganda material is disseminated for radicalising and
recruiting members to the fold of ISIS.
The
NIA had conducted multiple searches in Jammu and Kashmir on July 11 this year
in the same case and had arrested three accused-- Umar Nisar, Tanveer Ahmad
Bhat and Rameez Ahmad Lone, all residents of Achabal area of Anantnag district.
A
cyber entity 'Abu Hazir Al Badri' a key operative of ISIS who is involved in
the translation of 'Voice of Hind' to South Indian languages and its further
dissemination was identified as Jufri Jawhar Damudi, and arrested on August 6
this year in a joint operation of NIA and Karnataka Police.
The
agency said that the cyber ID was also used to radicalise and recruit people.
"Jufri
Jawhar is the younger brother of Adnan Hasan Damudi who was arrested for
ISIS-related activities in 2016 and is currently under detention in a separate
NIA case," the agency said.
Jufri
Jawhar Damudi was in touch with ISIS leadership, currently operating out of
Afghanistan-Pakistan (Af-Pak) region who provided him propaganda material and also
gave directions for its dissemination.
"For
this purpose, Jufri had created multiple pseudonymous IDs on encrypted chat
platforms and was also a member of various online propaganda channels of
ISIS," the agency added.
During
earlier searches in the 'ISIS-Voice of Hind' case, NIA claimed to have seized a
large number of digital devices such as mobile phones, hard disks, SD cards
etc.

J&K
police detain around 430 over ground worker associated with different terrorist
outfits
Oct
11, 2021
NEW
DELHI: In a major crackdown on the terror eco-system in Jammu and Kashmir days
after a string of civilian killings, the J&K police have detained around
430 overground workers (OGWs) associated with different terrorist outfits such
as Lashkar e Taiba and Jaish e Mohammed, etc and are questioning them on their
terror links and alleged supporting role in the recent attacks.
The
OGWs were picked up from across the Kashmir Valley, prominently Srinagar,
Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian. One of the OGWs detained is a prominent drugs
supplier based in Srinagar. As per the preliminary investigation, the local
terrorists behind the targeted killings were mostly neo-recruits or ‘hybrid’
terrorists lured by handlers, including from Pakistan, with drugs or money to
carry out one-off attacks with pistols supplied by the latter. Incidentally,
many of the OGWs picked up by J&K police appear to be consuming drugs, said
a source.
A
call on arrest of the detained OGWs will be taken based on facts that come out
during their questioning. They are likely to be sent to jails outside the
Valley, possibly in Jammu or even another state.
The
agencies have also identified two Pakistani Lashkar e Taiba terrorists who
delivered the pistols to the local Kashmiris behind the recent killings. One of
the Pakistani terrorists may have infiltrated recently, said a source.
The
arrests of the OGWs came on a day that NIA conducted searches at 15 locations
across Kulgam, Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla districts of J&K in two
separate cases. While two and operatives of The Resistance Front were arrested
in the LeT-TRF conspiracy case dating back to June 2021, three ISIS operatives
have been arrested in the ISIS ‘Voice of Hind’ case. Sources said around more
arrests may follow. The LeT-TRF case relates to the recovery of an IED from a
LeT terrorist in Bathindi, Jammu for indulging in terrorist acts in J&K.
The Voice of Hind’ case relates to ISIS conspiracy to radicalize and recruit
impressionable Muslim youth in India through online propaganda to wage violent
Jihad against the Indian state. This is supplemented by on-ground terror
financing activities. NIA had earlier arrested four accused persons in the
case.
On
Friday, one LeT terrorist said to have been involved in the fatal shooting of
Mohammad Shafi Dar on October 2 in Batamaloo was killed in an encounter.

people have been arrested in Dakshina Kannada after they stopped a car on
Saturday and questioned travellers as to why they got into a vehicle driven by
a person of another faith, police said.
According
to Moodbidri police officials, a Muslim couple travelling in a car saw two
friends and offered them a lift since they were heading towards the same area.
After
the four travelled a short distance, two people on a motorcycle intercepted
them and questioned the women as to why they need to sit in the car of a Muslim
person.
Though
police arrived at the scene, the two people, Samithraj and Sandeep Poojary,
continued to abuse the two women and the Muslim couple.
“The
two persons have been booked in a case of rioting and public nuisance based on
a woman’s complaint,” a police official said, requesting not to be named. “Both
were produced before the court and are currently in judicial custody.”
In
Shivamogga, two people were held on Saturday on charges of moral policing after
they allegedly assaulted a Hindu man for dropping off a Muslim woman on his
two-wheeler on Saturday, police said.
Karnataka
has reported many cases of moral policing and hate crime recently.
In
a case of hate crime, a 24-year-old Muslim, who was in a relationship with a
Hindu woman, was found decapitated on railway tracks in Khanapur in Belagavi
district, about 505 kms from Bengaluru, on September 28.

Pakistan
Imran
seeks nation’s help for fighting corruption, ‘sex crimes’
Amir
Wasim
October
11, 2021
ISLAMABAD:
Seeking help from society for the government in its fight against corruption
and growing sex crimes in the country, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday
announced that he planned to set up a multi-purpose Rehmatullil Aalamin
Authority (RAA) with the main aim “to explain Islam to the world” and for
propagation of the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) among the
children and youth of the country.
Addressing
a conference to mark the beginning of 10-day Eid Miladun Nabi celebrations, the
prime minister said he himself would be the patron of the proposed authority.
During
his 55-minute scholarly speech in which he shared his personal experiences of
living in England as a young student and then as a cricketer, Mr Khan made a
comparison between the western and Pakistani cultures by highlighting both the
positive and negative aspects of the two societies.
“For
how long the government can fight corruption alone? But a society can fight it
because it is the society’s money which is stolen,” Mr Khan said. Giving the
examples of China, the United Kingdom and Singapore, he said these societies
did not tolerate corruption at all.
Announces
setting up of Rehmatullil Aalamin Authority with aim ‘to explain Islam to the
world’
In
an apparent reference to supreme leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
(PML-N) and three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Mr Khan said: “A man is
delivering speeches while sitting in London after looting the public money.
When his people will shower flowers on him, then who will consider theft a bad
thing. If the society will not fight, then how many corrupts can a government
catch?”
According
to the prime minister, obscenity is the second biggest problem the country has
been facing after corruption. He regretted that whenever they talked about
obscenity a so-called liberal group started making a hue and cry, saying they
were taking the society to the old ages.
The
prime minister said that after coming to power, he was told by an inspector
general of police that “sex crimes”, including rape and child abuse cases, were
increasing in the country. He said the DIG of the area presented a “horrible
picture” of the situation about sex crimes in Kasur district of Punjab.
Mr
Khan blamed Hollywood and Bollywood for the spread of obscenity in society and
regretted that there was no role of scholars in the country to tell the youth
about the negative impacts and consequences of these evils. He said the victims
of rape and child abuse did not pursue their cases out of shame for themselves
and their families.
“What
action can the government take against them [rapists]?” he asked while quoting
an incident in which a woman refused to report her rape. “It is the society
which fight corruption. Law alone cannot fight it. Similarly, it is the society
which will have to fight the growing sex crime. It is up to the society to make
a decision.”
The
prime minister was of the view that obscenity was an ill in society and was
having a bad and disastrous impact on social and family life. He urged the
religious scholars to play their role in stopping obscenity and saving “our
family system” through their research work. He said the concept of “veil” had
been given by the religion to save the family system.
Mr
Khan said the divorce rate in society had risen to an alarming level, adding
that he could say on the basis of his personal experience that divorce had a
very adverse and painful impact on children who wanted to live together with
the parents.
“I
have seen what destruction is caused by divorce. I have the children. We had
divorce. There is no bigger curse than divorce,” he went on saying while
speaking to a serious audience comprising his ministers and some of the members
belonging to minorities.
He
regretted that it was after seeing the growing incidents of children expelling
their old parents from home that the government had to bring a legislation to
stop this trend.
The
prime minister then urged media to play its role in this regard. “We cannot
stop the expansion of media, social media and technology, but we should engage
our youth and tell them about the Islamic values and the two choices they
have.”
He
said a cartoon series would be launched to create awareness among children
regarding the national ethos and culture.

Al
Qaeda and other Pak based terrorists become active in Kashmir at the behest of
ISI: Need for intelligence-led operations
October
9, 2021
SD
Pradhan
The
recent killings of civilians in Kashmir portends a worrisome trend, though on
expected lines after the capture of Kabul and Panjshir by Pak supported
Taliban. This was hailed by Pak supported terrorist groups and in this context
Al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) deserve special mention.
Al Qaeda was the first important terrorist outfit that hailed US withdrawal
from Afghanistan as a victory. Their focus has been on Kashmir since the days
of Osama bin Laden.
The
Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) was established for focused attention
to Kashmir and other areas of India. Early this year, the AQIS changed the name
of its magazine from Nawai Afghan Jihad (Voice of Afghan Jihad) to Nawai
Ghazwat ul-Hind (Voice of conquest of India) clearly indicating its new focus
on India.
The
LeT and JeM had organised and participated in PoK on the 23 rd August
celebrating the capture of Afghanistan by Taliban. Videos had emerged from the
area showing the cadres of Pakistan-based terror groups like JeM and LeT taking
part in the rally and firing celebratory shots in the air. The leaders of these
outfit later addressed the rally, while the then ISI Chief Faiz Hameed was seen
offering namaz along with Mullah Baradar in Kandahar. The cheers were not
limited to only the ‘unofficial army’ of Pakistan but was openly expressed by
the Pak PM and other ministers. They have made controversial statements, saying
the Taliban are not "bad people" and are trying to govern
Afghanistan through principles of Islam. Pakistan is making fervent appeals
before the foreign countries to recognise the Taliban regime.
ISI
continues to act according to its playbook. It keeps on floating new
organisations to project that locals are involved. After August 2019, it
floated ‘The Resistance Front’, which was a name given to the LeT cadres.
Recently it claimed the responsibility for the murderous attacks on three
persons including a Kashmiri Pandit and owner of a prominent pharmacy within
two hours. The deceased included Makhan Lal Bindroo (owner of the medical
store), Virender Paswan (a street vendor) and Mohammad Shafi Lone (head of a
local taxi stand). Umar Wani claiming to be TRF spokesperson stated that the
trio were killed for working with the RSS, the ideological fountainhead of the
Bhartiya Janata Party, and intelligence agencies. He further stated that more
such killings would take place in future. Interestingly, two other terror
groups, United Liberation Front and Freedom Seekers of Kashmir also came
forward to claim responsibility for these attacks. Nothing much was heard about
these outfit. Now after the killing of two teachers another terrorist outfit
called ‘the Geelani Force’ has come to claim the responsibility for the
killings. It has warned Kashmiri Pandits. Obviously, it is another front formed
by the ISI to create an atmosphere of fear and panic for the minorities. The
attempt is to revive the scenario of 1990. It has also warned ‘The Resistance
Front’ not to come in their way to project that it has no links with Pakistan.
India has witnessed such gimmicks of the ISI in the past as well. However, in
view of US lawmakers pressurizing the Biden Administration to impose sanctions
in view of direct support being provided to the Taliban, the ISI is making
frenetic attempts to project that the locals are involved in these heinous
activities and Pakistan has nothing to do with these acts. Pakistan is also
desperately trying to project this as a local reaction to India’s withdrawal of
Article 370 at various international forums.
In
the US, there is palpable anger against the Pak role in Afghanistan.
Congressman Steve Chabot, Co-Chair of the India Caucus pointing out the Pak
role in the victory of Taliban, remarked: “Pakistan and particularly its
intelligence services played a key role fostering the Taliban and allowing them
to eventually take over. It is just disgusting to watch Pakistani officials
celebrate the victory of this group that will bring untold brutality to the
Afghan people.” Pakistan’s role in aiding the Taliban to seize power in
Afghanistan became clear with the exposure of the identity of militants trained
and dispatched by the Pakistan Army. A large number of them from Punjab, had
been dispatched by the Pak Army after a short sting in the Army Training Centre
at the camps run by the LeT to beef up the ranks of the Taliban. In Kandahar,
the LeT cadres were seen fighting alongside the Taliban. Scores of LeT cadres
have also been killed. The LeT team was led by Saifullah Khalid, who was killed
in the fighting in Nawahi district of Kandahar along with 11 of his
accomplices. Khalid was replaced by another LeT commander from Punjab named
Imran. He had previously operated in Kashmir. In Panjshir, the Taliban were
directly provided assistance by the Pak Army.
In
fact, the active role of the Pak-based terrorist outfits in Afghanistan had
been known for quite some time. The LeT has had strongholds within Afghanistan
since the 1990s and the group continued to train and fight alongside the
Taliban even after 2001. With the active support of the Pakistan Army, the group
had started to consolidate its position in at least over eight districts in
Afghanistan after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Last year, more LeT and JeM
cadres were reported to had moved to Afghanistan which was assessed as the Pak
attempt to move out its terrorists when FATF was focusing on the Pak
Establishment’s efforts to check terrorists operating from the Pak soil. It is
strongly suspected that Pakistan was sending the cadres of these terrorist
outfits along with the Pak troops.

Pak
journalist killed in bomb attack in Balochistan
Oct
11, 2021
KARACHI:
A 35-year-old Pakistani journalist was killed in an attack claimed to have been
carried out by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army in the country's restive
Balochistan province, media reports said on Monday.
Shahid
Zehri, who has been associated with Metro 1 News, was travelling in a car in
the town of Hub in the province when he was attacked on Sunday, reportedly with
a homemade grenade, Eidgah Station House Officer Nadeem Haider was quoted as
saying by Dawn News.
Zehri,
a TV reporter suffered critical injuries, and another injured person was
initially taken to Hub Civil Hospital and subsequently brought to the Dr Ruth
Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where Zehri was pronounced dead, the report said.
CCTV
footage of the incident seen by Dawn.com showed an explosion that took place on
the roadside near Zehri's moving car as soon as it made a U-turn on a busy
road. The nature of the bomb could not be confirmed immediately.
Later,
the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the
attack in a statement.
In
February, the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors' (CPNE) Media Freedom
Report 2020 had revealed that at least 10 journalists were murdered and several
others threatened, kidnapped, tortured and arrested in Pakistan on trumped-up
charges while discharging their professional responsibilities in 2020 alone,
the Dawn report said.
No
action has so far been taken against those responsible for torturing and
killing journalists and it seems that such persons enjoy impunity.
“It
is a matter of grave concern that the legal system of the country has become
useless in protecting and providing justice to journalists,” said the report.

AQ
Khan, ‘father of Pakistan's N-bomb’, dies of Covid
Oct
11, 2021
ISLAMABAD:
Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, known as the ‘father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb’, died at
a hospital here on Sunday after his lungs collapsed, severely damaged by
coronavirus infection that he had contracted last month.
Khan,
85, has been revered as a national hero for making Pakistan a nuclear power.
Islamabad had detonated its first nuclear weapon in 1998 when he was leading
the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) - a uranium enrichment facility that has
been expanded to many other fields of science over a period of time - in
Kahuta, near Islamabad.
“Dr
Khan was loved by the nation because of his critical contribution in making us
a nuclear weapon state. This has provided us security against an aggressive
much larger nuclear neighbor (India). For the people of Pakistan, he was a
national icon,” Pakistan’s prime minister Imran Khan posted on Twitter after
the nuclear scientist’s death. Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa said Khan's
contributions in making Pakistan's defence stronger were “significant”.
Amid
tight security, Khan had been living a secluded life at his residence in
Islamabad’s upscale E-7 neighbourhood since 2004 after he had admitted to a
role in a massive global nuclear proliferation scam. In a televised address, he
had accepted responsibility for illegal proliferation of nuclear technology to
Iran, North Korea and Libya. Ex-military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf had sacked
him from his position. The former president, however, had also granted him
clemency using his discretionary powers but kept him under house arrest till
2009. “It would have been disastrous for Pakistan if I had not accepted
responsibility,” the nuclear scientist had once said.
In
a 2018 book “Pakistan's Nuclear Bomb: A Story of Defiance, Deterrence And
Deviance”, Pakistani-American scholar and academic Hassan Abbas has highlighted
Khan's involvement in nuclear proliferation in Iran, Libya and North Korea.
He
wrote that the origins and evolution of the Khan network were tied to the
domestic and international political motivations underlying Pakistan's nuclear
weapons project.
The
writer also examined the role of China and Saudi Arabia in supporting its
nuclear infrastructure. Khan is reported to have intimate links with China's
nuclear establishment.
The
US State Department said in 2009 that Khan had run an “extensive international
network for the proliferation of nuclear equipment and know-how that provided
‘one stop shopping’ for countries seeking to develop nuclear weapons”.
According
to the State Department, this network's actions had “irrevocably changed the
proliferation landscape and have had lasting implications for international
security”.
Western
diplomats have long doubted whether Khan could have acted alone. Talking to
foreign media in the past, Khan had said the confession “was handed into my
hand”.
Khan
was born in 1936 in Bhopal, India, and had migrated along with his family to
Pakistan after the Partition. He studied metallurgical engineering in Berlin
after completing a degree in science from Karachi University in 1960. Later on,
he went for advanced studies to Netherlands and Belgium.
After
India’s nuclear test in 1974, he had joined Pakistan’s clandestine efforts for
developing nuclear technology. For this purpose, he had founded the KRL in 1976
and was its chief scientist and director for many years until his removal by
Musharraf in 2004 over accusation of running a rogue proliferation network for
nuclear material.

October
11, 2021
MULTAN:
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan is committed to
continuing extending political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiris
in their struggle for right to self-determination.
“We
stand side by side with the Kashmiri brethren in their struggle for their right
to self-determination. A dossier based on irrefutable evidences of the
atrocities and war crimes of Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally
Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has been presented to the world,” the
foreign minister said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
He
said Pakistan would continue to raise voices against oppression and barbarism
by the Indian army in IIOJK at every forum. He maintained that Kashmir had
become a global issue instead of a regional one and it must be resolved in
accordance with the United Nations resolutions.
Mr
Qureshi stressed that the international community must come forward to stop
ongoing serious human rights violations in IIOJK and save the oppressed
Kashmiris from tyranny of Indian occupation forces.
Highlighting
the Afghanistan issue, the foreign minister said: “Peace in Afghanistan is our
top priority and we believe that if there is peace in Afghanistan then there
will be peace in the whole region. The world is witnessing our efforts for
peace in Afghanistan.”
FM
says peace in Afghanistan is Islamabad’s top priority
He
said Pakistan would continue its conciliatory efforts for peace and stability
in the region, including the Afghan peace process.
The
foreign minister said the Covid-19 pandemic had hit the world’s strongest
economies hard. To meet the challenges, he added, Pakistan was focusing on
economic diplomacy, promoting economic cooperation and enhancing regional ties.
Mr
Qureshi said Pakistan’s economy was on the right track with encouraging
economic indicators. “The Pakistanis have emerged as a strong nation after
overcoming major challenges such as terrorism and the coronavirus,” he said,
claiming that Pakistan was emerging as a prosperous country in the world.
“Significant
progress is being made in the field of exports and agriculture. Due to
effective policies of the incumbent government, sustainable development will
continue in the public interest,” he said, maintaining that Pakistan would
achieve prominence in the world soon due to its progressive policies.

Muslim
Students of Kwara School Deserved Punishment – Muslim Rights Concern
October
11, 2021
By
Annie Nwosu
The
Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has called on Muslims in Kwara State and the
general public to desist from jumping to conclusions on the viral video in
which students of an Arabic school were severely beaten.
DAILY
POST reports that the video footage of the incident which went viral showed the
students being punished for alleged misconducts.
Reacting,
the group’s Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in a statement on Monday,
maintained that the action of the school authorities should not be judged in
isolation.
According
to him, “the fact that the parents requested the school to discipline their
children must not be ignored.
“While
we regard the punishment meted to the students as too harsh, we maintain that
the action of the school authorities should not be judged in isolation. The
fact that the parents requested the school to discipline their children must
not be ignored.
“MURIC
is also in possession of another video in which the students confessed that
they engaged in shameful and unIslamic actions, namely, visiting a club,
drinking alcohol, bathing themselves with alcohol, etc. These are horrible acts
in which ordinary Muslims must not be involved.
“Arabic
schools are the repository of morality and the vault of uprightness. They are the
conscience of the Ummah. The offence committed by those students becomes more
unacceptable when the actors are students of an Arabic school who are expected
to be the epitome of morality and religiousity.
“Nigerians
must brace up and understand where the authorities of the Kwara Arabic school
are coming from? The students who received that beating were the black sheep in
the school and they would have polluted others by taking them to the club if
they had not been taught that bitter lesson.
“While
we do not subscribe to merciless flogging, torture and other severe corporeal
punishment, we make bold to say that children must be disciplined.
“We
commend the parents of those children who instructed the school authorities to
punish their children. Posterity will count them among Nigeria’s puritanists
and disciplinarians.

UN
official says six shot dead in Libya detention center after migrant raids
09
October ,2021
At
least six migrants were shot dead at a Tripoli detention center on Friday, the
head of the UN migration agency’s Libya mission said, as many reportedly
escaped from the facility and others gathered in nearby streets.
Overcrowding
triggered chaos at the Ghot Shaal center, with people sleeping in the open and
different security forces present, said Federico Soda, the Libya mission head
for the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
“Shooting
started,” he said, adding that at least six people were killed.
Libyan
security forces have cracked down on migrants, refugees and asylum seekers over
the past week, detaining more than 5,000.
There
are hundreds of thousands of migrants in Libya, some seeking to travel onwards
to Europe and others coming to work in the major oil exporter.
They
routinely face violence in a country that has had little peace for a decade,
with many held in detention centers that United Nations refugee agency UNHCR
says are crowded and unsanitary, and where Amnesty International on Friday said
they face torture and sexual abuse.
Libya’s
Government of National Unity was not immediately available for comment.
The
country has been in crisis since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising against Muammar
Gaddafi.
Numerous
videos posted on social media on Friday, which Reuters could not immediately
authenticate, showed dozens of people pouring through a gap in a fence, and
larger numbers marching through Tripoli streets.
Two
residents said they had seen large numbers of migrants running through the
streets in that area.

Pope
Francis meets with Colombian nun freed in Mali
James
Tasamba
11.10.2021
KIGALI,
Rwanda
Pope
Francis met Sunday with a Colombian nun who was freed the previous day by
militants in Mali after more than four years in captivity, the Vatican said.
Gloria
Cecilia Narvaez was kidnapped on Feb. 7, 2017 in southern Mali near the border
with Burkina Faso while doing missionary work by the Macina Liberation Front,
an al-Qaeda-linked group.
After
travelling to Rome, Narvaez met the Pope, said the Vatican, a day after she met
with Mali’s interim President Assimi Goita.
Her
meeting with Pope Francis took place before the celebration of a holy mass for
the beginning of the synodal process at St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican said.
The
59-year-old Franciscan nun said she was grateful to Malian authorities for all
the efforts towards liberating her.
“I
am very happy. I stayed healthy for five years, thank God,” she said.
In
a statement Saturday, Mali’s presidency saluted the courage and bravery of the
nun, saying her liberation was a culmination of four years and eight months of
combined efforts by several intelligence services.
It
was not immediately clear whether Narvaez was freed following a ransom payment.
The
Archbishop of Bamako, Jean Zerbo, also thanked Malian authorities and other
“good people who made her release possible.”
“We
have prayed long and hard for this day,” he said.
Regular
reports on the nun’s safety provided reassurance as two Europeans who escaped
from captivity earlier this year reported that Sister Gloria was still alive.
In March, her brother reportedly received a letter written and signed by her
through the Red Cross.
Mali
has been battling an insurgency linked to the al-Qaeda and Daesh/ISIS terrorist
groups since 2012, when unrest erupted in the north of the West African
country.
The
violence, which has killed thousands of civilians and troops, has spread to
neighboring Niger and Burkina Faso.

Algeria’s
president demands ‘total respect’ from France
Abderrazak
Boulkemh, Ali Semerci
11.10.2021
Algeria’s
president on Sunday demanded France’s “total respect” for his country after
increased tensions between the two nations over remarks by his French
counterpart.
The
return of the Algerian ambassador to France is conditional on the “total
respect” for Algeria's sovereignty, institutions and power, Abdelmadjid
Tebboune told local media.
Tebboune
said the French side should forget that Algeria was once a French colony.
“Algeria
is strong with its army and its proud people, who submit only to God,” he
noted.
French
President Emmanuel Macron stoked tensions with Algiers, and even Turkey, during
a recent meeting with descendants of Algerians who fought on France’s side
during Algeria’s war for independence.
As
part of France’s persistent efforts to distance itself from its atrocious
colonial past, Macron claimed “there was colonization before French colonial
rule” in Algeria, alluding to the Ottoman presence in the country between 1514
and 1830.
“The
building of Algeria as a nation is a phenomenon worth watching. Was there an
Algerian nation before French colonization? That is the question,” he said.
Algeria
was swift to strongly condemn the remarks, going on to recall its ambassador
and closing its airspace to French military planes.
