Taliban Use Child Sex Slaves for Insider Attacks on Afghan Police

Thu Jun 16 2016

The Taliban militants are using child sex slaves to penetrate among the Afghan police forces in a bid to carry out insider attacks, it has been reported.

According to the reports, the latest technique has been used in southern Afghanistan where the security situation has been tense in a number of provinces.

The former provincial police chief of Uruzgan Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai has told AFP “The Taliban are sending boys — beautiful boys, handsome boys — to penetrate checkpoints and kill, drug and poison policemen.”

Ghulam Sakhi further added “They have figured out the biggest weakness of police forces — Bacha Bazi.”

Another police commander in Tarin Kot said “These bacha attacks have fuelled deep mistrust within police ranks.”

The Taliban group has however rejected to use the child sex slaves for staging attacks agianst the Afghan security forces in the south.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) of Afghanistan also rejected reports suggesting the involvement of Afghan police forces in sexual abuse of children ‘Bacha Baazi’.

In a statement released late last year, MoI said sexual abuse of children is an obscene and indecent act with the Afghan laws recognizing it as a criminal offense and the perpetrators will face severe punishment as per the applicable laws.

International Yoga Day: Islamic School Shows How Yoga Can Help In Taxing Times of Ramadan

June 15, 2016

As countdown to International Yoga Day on June 21 has begun, students of an Islamic school in Ahmedabad are setting an example of communal harmony and proving to be a fitting response to controversies surrounding Yoga Day.

Students of Anjuman-e-Islam have been practising Yoga daily for 30 minutes without associating the religion with the exercise. In fact, the students and teachers at the school believe that Yoga helps them in keeping up with the fasting during the ongoing month of Ramadan, ANI reported.

"We all know that Yoga has several benefits. Yoga is not associated to any religion and can be practised by everyone. Yoga helps us to get through the day in a healthy fashion. We are not supposed to drink water nor eat anything during Ramadan and practising this helps us with the pressure," Nameera, a student, was quoted as saying by ANI.

A number of controversies revolving around International Yoga Day erupted last year when various minority groups opposed the chanting of Om and Surya Namaskar (paying salutations to the sun) during the yoga exercises.

The Indian government has decided not include Surya Namaskar and not make Om chanting compulsory this year on International Yoga Day.

At Anjuman-e-Islam School, however, the mood is completely different -- with the faculty and students endorsing Yoga practices likewise.

Mallick Husseinbai, the Physical Health instructor of the school, told ANI that the practising Yoga is proving to be highly beneficial for the students and that chanting of 'Omkar' mantra is an option the school leaves to the students.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in a letter addressed to all the Union ministers urged them to make 'Yoga' a mass movement .

"The International Day of Yoga is not simply an event. It is a way of making yoga an integral part of our lives. It is a means of popularising yoga among the masses, across social strata, in different age groups so that we can enhance our mental and physical well being. It is towards this end that I solicit your support," Modi said in the letter, as reported by the Indian Express.

Ramadan 2016: Israel 'cuts off water supply to West Bank' during Muslim holy month

June 16, 2016

Israel has cut off the water supply to large areas of the West Bank, Palestinian authorities have claimed.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have reportedly been left without access to safe drinking water during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, at a time when temperatures can exceed 35C.

The northern city of Jenin, which has a population of more than 40,000, said its water supplies had been cut in half by Mekorot, Israel's national water company. Jenin is home to a refugee camp, established in 1953, which contains 16,000 registered refugees.

Ayman Rabi, the executive director of the Palestinian Hydrology Group, told Al Jazeera that in some areas people had not received water for more than 40 days.

He said: "People are relying on purchasing water from water trucks or finding it from alternative sources such as springs and other filling points in their vicinity.

"Families are having to live on two, three or 10 litres per capita per day."

Saleh Hijazi, Amnesty International's Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories researcher, said the reports were "alarming".

He told The Independent: "Israel already allows Palestinians access to only a fraction of the shared water resources in the occupied West Bank, with unlawful Israeli settlements getting almost unlimited water supplies which enable settlers to maintain lush gardens and even fill up numerous private swimming pools.

“Water is a basic need and a right. Mekorot should restore any water supplies to Palestinians it has cut off and the Israel authorities should end their discriminatory water policies, lifting all arbitrary restrictions it currently imposes on Palestinians’ access to this vital resource.”

According to UN guidelines, 7.5 litres per person per day is the minimum requirement under nornal conditions but in some areas of the Palestinian territories the minimum requirement is much higher.

The municipality of Jenin, several villages in Nablus and the city of Salfit and its surrounding villages claimed to have suffered cuts to their water supply.

Almost 200,000 Palestinians in the West Bank do not have access to running water, and require permission before collecting it themselves, according to a report by Amnesty International.

Since 1967, Israel has limited the water available to Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip since its forces occupied the territories.

A spokesperson for the Israeli government told The Indepedent there is "no truth" in the claims, and said the shortages were down to faulty water lines.

They said: "Several hours ago, COGAT's Civil Administration team have repaired a burst pipe line, which disrupted the water supply to the villages of Marda, Biddya, Jamma'in, Salfit and Tapuach. The water flow has been regulated and is currently up and running.

"Any effort to connect the disruptions with terror is mistaken and misleading.

"Given the failure to develop infrastructures as a result of the unwillingness on behalf of the Palestinians to convene  the Joint Water Committee (JWC), there are problems in the water supply."

Mekorot could not be reached for comment.

Anonymous hacks pro-ISIS Twitter accounts, fills them with gay pride

June 15th, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO -- In response to the Orlando mass shooting, the hacker-activist group known as Anonymous has hacked into dozens of pro-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) Twitter accounts and infused them with gay pride, CBS San Francisco reported.

While San Francisco-based Twitter did not admit that the accounts were hacked, images of the hacked accounts and the Twitter account responsible for the hacking suggest otherwise.

"We condemn the use of Twitter to promote terrorism and the Twitter Rules make it clear that this type of behavior, or any violent threat, is not permitted on our service," a Twitter spokesperson told CBS San Francisco on Wednesday. "Since the middle of 2015 alone, we've suspended over 125,000 accounts for threatening or promoting terrorist acts, primarily related to ISIS."

Anonymous hacker @WauchulaGhost has been hacking pro-ISIS accounts since at least March 2016, but possibly earlier. Around June 7, the @WauchulaGhost account was posting pornography-related images and slogans such as "I love porn" and Anonymous to pro-ISIS accounts.

The Anonymous hacker, or group of hackers, claimed on June 10 to have hacked into about 1,500 pro-ISIS, also referred to as Daesh, Twitter accounts and posted pornographic material. Anonymous also frequently tweets the pro-ISIS accounts' IP addresses, which included users in Turkey, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Jordan, Oman and elsewhere.

On June 12, the hacker account @WauchulaGhost said that Twitter had deleted the accounts after they were hacked into and altered by Anonymous.

Following the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando -- which the FBI is investigating as both a hate crime and an ISIS-inspired terror attack -- the Anonymous hacker started to infiltrate pro-ISIS accounts and then post images of rainbow flags, non-graphic gay pornography and slogans such as "I'm gay and I'm proud."

The pro-ISIS accounts that were hacked were all renamed "Jacked by a Ghost" and most linked to CIA.gov. While some of the hacked accounts have been suspended, some still exist, according to CBS San Francisco.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Anonymous hacker Twitter account appeared to still be at it, tweeting its successful takeover of the Twitter account @islamsunna111, with an IP address in Oman, and peppering that account with slogans such as "Make love, not war" and "#MoreSex #LessDeath #ISIS #ISIL #IslamicState."

Ahead Of UP Polls: Will Communal Politics Harm Kairana’s Secular Harmony?

Jun 16, 2016

Over a century ago, musician Abdul Karim Khan migrated from Kairana to Dharwad in Karnataka to establish the Kirana Gharana as a musical ideology that presumably forms the ‘line of actual control’ between Carnatic music and Hindustani classical.

What followed was a movement that revolutionised Indian music as we know it.

Today, a list released by a 78-year-old local BJP MP has brought another instance of migration from the same town in Uttar Pradesh. But this, in utter contrast, has struck a decidedly discordant note among the people of the state in the run-up to the upcoming state assembly polls.

Known for courting controversies, Sadhvi had said India must be rid of Muslims now that the mission of a Congress-free India has been "accomplished".

Opposition up in arms over plans to delete Atatürk’s ideology in new charter

June 16, 2016

A statement by a chief advisor of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggesting that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk would be mentioned only with his “founder” title in the new constitution has infuriated Turkey’s main opposition party.

“The prevailing view is that there should be no reference to any specific ideology in the new constitution,” Mehmet Uçum, a chief adviser to Erdogan, said in an interview at the presidential palace in Ankara, Bloomberg News Agency reported on June 14, unveiling the Turkish leadership’s plans to remove references in the constitution binding public servants to the ideology of Atatürk, the nation’s secular founder, as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the state, its principles and institutions under Erdogan and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) government.

Turkish actor in US admits selling nuclear technology material to Iran

June 16, 2016

A former Turkish actor, detained in New York for illegally selling to Iran a restricted metallic powder used in missile production, pleaded guilty on June 15.

Erdal Kuyumcu, 44, the chief executive of Global Metallurgy LLC, pleaded guilty in a Brooklyn federal court on June 15 to deliberately violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which limits trade with Iran.

The indictment said Kuyumcu collected more than 450 kilograms of cobalt-nickel metallic powder, which is used in aerospace, missile production and nuclear applications, to export them to Iran.

It added that Kuyumcu, along with another partner, then hid the metal powder in Turkey before sending it to Iran.

Despite Brexit noise and migrant woes, Turkey committed to EU ties: Simsek

June 16, 2016

Turkey remains committed to closer ties with the European Union despite strains in the relationship, and wants to deepen a customs union to become the bloc’s third largest trade partner, Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek said in an interview.

Turkey’s relations with Europe have soured over demands it amend its anti-terrorism laws on human rights grounds under a deal to curb migration, prompting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last month to angrily warn: “We’re going our way, you go yours.”

Its decade-long efforts to join the EU have meanwhile been dragged into Britain’s acrimonious debate over exiting the bloc, reinforcing the view of some Turks that Brussels was never serious about Turkish membership in the first place.

Kosovo Hacker Admits He Gave Military Members' Data to the Islamic State

Wed Jun 16, 2016

A hacker arrested in Malaysia last year pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing the personal data of U.S. service members and passing it to the Islamic State terrorist group.

Ardit Ferizi, a 21-year-old citizen of Kosovo who was living in Kuala Lumpur, used the Twitter handle "Th3Dir3ctorY" as part of a collective of hackers from his home country.

Last June, according to prosecutors, he hacked into a server used by a U.S. online retail company and obtained data on about 100,000 people. Later in the summer, he sent the names, email addresses, passwords and locations of about 1,351 federal employees and military members to the Islamic State.

Green Cards’ Distributed To Stateless Rakhine State Muslims

Wed Jun 16, 2016

On top of handing out the green cards to those who are eligible, officials are counting the number of people already holding the cards. Citizenship scrutiny in line with the 1982 Citizenship Law is expected to follow after this initial step, as part of the government’s 100-day plan to conduct citizenship scrutiny nationwide.

The project was meant to start in three Muslim-majority townships on June 7, but disagreements over the cards in Ponnagyun Township have obstructed verification there thus far. The cards that are handed out do not mention race or religion, and the Rohingya community in the township has reportedly refused to cooperate because they cannot self-identify.

Muslims and Christians: A happy family?

Wed Jun 16,2016

My father and I have a very difficult relationship. But still, no matter how miserable it can get, I am his son. This means I am his successor. I am neither better nor worse, just younger and newer. I can honestly say that I hate him sometimes because of the things that happened in the past. I see him in myself and myself in him. I have qualities he doesn’t have and he has traits that weren’t passed on to me. I often blame him for my misery and I’m very observant and critical of his behavior. Although I should know better, I occasionally feel superior and condemn his flaws. He feels the same way about me sometimes, by the way. On the other end, I respect him and enjoy the things I can learn from him about myself. Our father-son relationship reminds me of the ongoing dance between love and hate by the two major world religions: Christianity and Islam.

The suit said the companies “knowingly permitted” the Islamic State group, referred to in the complaint as ISIS, to recruit members, raise money and spread “extremist propaganda” via their social-media services.
