An Islamic studies academic dubbed the "Professor
of Peace" at Oberlin College in Ohio endorsed the campaign to assassinate
U.S. and British writer Salman Rushdie because the famous novelist depicted the
Muslim prophet Muhammad irreverently.
A 24-year-old man named Hadi Matar allegedly stabbed
Rushdie on Friday in the neck and liver during the author’s speech in
Chautauqua, New York. Rushdie is on a ventilator and cannot talk.
According to law enforcement officials, Matar’s social
media footprint showed that he was a fan of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard
Corps, a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization. Matar was also
sympathetic to radical Shia Islamism—the governing religion of the Islamic
Republic of Iran.
When asked about the then-Supreme Leader Ruhollah
Khomeini’s fatwa and the "right to put a bounty on someone’s head,"
according to a 1989 Reuters report, Iranian scholar and former diplomat
Mohammad Jafar Mahallati responded: "I think all Islamic countries agree
with Iran. All Islamic nations and countries agree with Iran that any
blasphemous statement against sacred figures should be condemned."
Mahallati added, "I think if Western countries
really believe and respect freedom of speech, therefore they should also respect
our freedom of speech. We certainly use that right in order to express
ourselves, our religious belief, in the case of any blasphemous statement
against sacred Islamic figures."
Fox News Digital sent a press query to Mahallati. An
automatic reply from Mahallati’s Oberlin College email said: "Greetings! I
am on summer leave. I will respond back whenever I can." Fox News Digital
also sent press queries to the president of Oberlin College, Carmen Twillie
Ambar.
The prominent Iranian-American journalist Masih
Alinejad took to Twitter to blast Mahallati. She wrote: "Guess who defends
Khomeini’s FATWA against #Salman Rushdie? Mahallati the Islamic Republic’s
former ambassador at the UN who is a now a professor at @oberlincollege."
Alinejad’s tweet went viral, securing 502 retweeets and 1,629 likes.
Iran’s regime has targeted Alinjead on New York City
soil to be kidnapped and assassinated, according to law enforcement officials
and experts on Iranian regime-sponsored terrorism. An armed man was indicted on
Friday for standing outside of her home in Brooklyn armed with an AK-47-style
rifle
In a second tweet, the women’s rights activist
Alinejad wrote: "We Iranians call on @oberlincollege again to investigate
about Mahallati the Islamic Republic’s former ambassador at the UN who defends
the Fatwa against Salman Rushdie. I can provide many other documents showing
his role on covering up the mass executions in 1988 in Iran."
A detailed 2018 Amnesty International report accused
Mahallati of carrying out "crimes against humanity" for covering up
the massacre of at least 5,000 Iranian dissidents in 1988. Mahallati denies
that he played a role in the cover-up of the 1988 massacre of innocent Iranian
prisoners.
After Fox News Digital exclusively revealed in Feb.
2021 that Mahallati called for the destruction of the Jewish state and
denigrated the persecuted religious minority Bahá'í community, Oberlin College
launched an investigation.
Oberlin College spokesman Scott Wargo told the local
Chronicle-Telegram newspaper in Oct. 2021 that "The college could find no
evidence to corroborate the allegations against Prof. Mahallati, including that
he had specific knowledge of the murders taking place."
The Oberlin College student paper The Oberlin Review
conducted its own inquiry and issued a scathing editorial entitled:
"Evidence Against Mahallati Irrefutalble."

Violent Attack On Salman Rushdie Against The Teachings
Of Quran: Kerala Governor Arif
Mohammad Khan
Kerala Governor Arif
Mohammed Khan during an Idea Exchange. (Express Archive)
-----
13th August 2022
By Shahid Faridi
Kerala Governor
Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday said the violent attack on Salman Rushdie goes
against the teachings of Quran but added “one cannot deny that the laws which
allow these acts are labelled as Muslim laws and they are also part of the
syllabus in the higher courses of prominent Madrasas like Deoband and Nadwatul
Ulema”.
Speaking to TNIE, Arif Mohammad Khan said:
"Anything done in the name of Islam must find sanction in the book.
Whatever is happening may be in accordance with laws written during the time of
the Muslim Empire but goes totally against the teachings of the Quran which is
more than 20 verses directs the believers “to turn away from those who say
things which are vain and hurtful."
"I feel that it is not fair to call these acts
Islamic but one cannot deny that the laws which allow these acts are labelled
as Muslim laws and they are also part of the syllabus in the higher courses of
prominent Madrasas like Deoband and Nadwatul Ulema."
He said, “the problem basically is that what is
described as Muslim Law is not mostly based on Quran, rather it was laid down
by individuals who were serving the governments of the day."
Three decades after the ban on 'The Satanic Verses',
when even the Ayatollah who issued the fatwa against Salman Rushdie has died,
the rage against free speech continues. How Islamic is it to resort to violence
against free speech?
Anything done in the name of Islam must find sanction
in the book. Whatever is happening may be in accordance with laws written
during the time of the Muslim Empire but goes totally against the teachings of
Quran which in more than 20 verses directs the believers "to turn away
from those who say things which are vain and hurtful. I feel that it is not
fair to call these acts Islamic but one cannot deny that the laws which allow
these acts are labelled as Muslim laws and they are also part of the syllabus
in the higher courses of prominent Madrasas like Deoband and Nadwatul Ulema.
The problem basically is that what is described as Muslim
Law is not mostly based on Quran, rather it was laid down by individuals who
were serving the governments of the day which were considered by pious people
like Imam Abu Hanifa as wayward and he preferred to die in jail rather than
accept their offer of senior positions to him.
Now, these laws provide for coercion and the use of
force. So as long as these laws are accepted as Muslim Law, it is very
difficult to dismiss the criticism.
You had taken a principled stand against pandering to
religious fundamentalism. How far has the nation travelled since your
resignation from the Rajiv Gandhi ministry?
Exactly as expected. In 1986, the then PM Rajiv Gandhi
announced the decision to overturn the Supreme Court’s Shah Bano judgment and
the blowback was so severe that the government had to organize the unlocking of
the gate in Ayodhya as a balancing act. The consequences were severe and the
people suffered a great deal because the then government chose political
expediency over national interests.
What do you think would be the best response by the
Muslim community against those giving Fatwas against writers, poets and others
exercising free speech?
First, stand up and say boldly that religion is about
God-consciousness (Taqwa), it is about promoting moral and ethical behaviour,
it is not an instrument to gain political power. Secondly, refuse to accept any
law that conflicts with the Quran, notwithstanding the claims made by people
for whom religion has become a profession and remember that Islam as a religion
does not admit the need of any clergy or middlemen between the Creator and the
creation as asserted by Allama Iqbal: Kyon Khaliq o Makhlooq mein Hayal Rahein
Parde Peerane Kaleeesa ko Kaleesa se Hatado.

Freedom-loving Iranians Across Europe Rally To Condemn
The Mullahs’ Regime
Photo: People's Mojahedn Organisation of Iran

By Matin Karim
August 14, 2022
Freedom-loving Iranians and supporters of the Iranian
opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) held rallies
condemning the mullahs’ regime ruling Iran. These rallies were held in recent
days in Amsterdam of the Netherlands, Oslo of Norway, Copenhagen of Denmark,
Cologne, Stuttgart of Germany, and Rome of Italy.
In Amsterdam, the demonstrators condemned Iranian
regime President Ebrahim Raisi for his direct role in the summer 1988 prison
massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners, mostly PMOI/MEK members and
supporters. The demonstrators are also calling on the U.S. government to deny
Raisi a visa as he intends to participate in the upcoming United Nations
General Assembly in New York next month, saying he should be arrested and
prosecuted for human rights violations and crimes against humanity. These
demonstrators also called on the West to end their highly flawed and failed
appeasement policy vis-à-vis the mullahs’ regime in Tehran.
In Oslo, the demonstrators, consisting of freedom of loving
Iranians and PMOI/MEK supporters, called for the overthrow of the mullahs’
regime by the Iranian people. “Death to Khamenei and damned be Khomeini!” they
chanted, in reference to regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his
predecessor, Ruhollah Khomeini, also known as the founder of the mullahs’
regime in Iran.
“Death to the mullahs’ regime principle! Hail to
Rajavi!” they also chanted, referring to Iranian Resistance Leader Massoud
Rajavi, and Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition
National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The PMOI/MEK is the cornerstone
member of the NCRI coalition.
In Cologne, another group of freedom-loving Iranians
and PMOI/MEK supporters held a gathering to both marks the memory of the over
30,000 victims of Iran’s summer 1988 massacre and condemn the mullahs’ regime
for their heinous atrocities throughout the past four decades.
In Stuttgart, Germany, those attending the gathering
condemned the policies and human rights violations of Ebrahim Raisi in Iran,
especially considering the recent spike in the number of executions across
Iran.
In Rome, supporters of the PMOI/MEK and the NCRI
coalition rallied in commemoration of Iran’s 1988 massacre victims and called
for global support for the Iranian people in their ongoing struggle to
establish freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran.
In Copenhagen, Denmark, freedom-loving Iranians
condemned the Belgian government’s deal with the Iranian regime that will see
the release of Tehran’s convicted diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi.
“Releasing the bomber is an approval of murder and
killing sprees,” the demonstrators chanted. They also called for regime change
in Iran by the people of Iran, further emphasizing that there is no need for
another war in the Middle East and that the West should stop appeasing the
mullahs’ regime. Finally, the Iranian expatriates living in Denmark called on
the Danish government to expel Iran’s ambassador.

Afghanistan Scene of World’s ‘Worst’ Humanitarian
Crisis: Islamic Relief Organization

13 Aug 2022
Afghans, particularly women and children, are
suffering the most from an economic collapse, as a result of the combined
effects of years of violence, maladministration, drought, natural disasters,
and international sanctions.
In a report released on Saturday, the 13th of August,
the Islamic Relief Organization stated that due to Afghanistan’s recent
political and economic breakdown, a humanitarian disaster has become a reality.
The number of Afghan people who go to bed hungry every
day is 19.7 million, which is one of the greatest figures ever recorded for a
single country, according to the report.
The majority of all rural households and more than a
quarter of urban households have now used all available resources, and they are
turning to ever-distressing and dangerous measures.
That includes beggaring on the streets, selling their
homes, selling their body organs, looking to take on increasingly risky work,
or marrying off their young daughters to get a dowry for survival.
Behind these shocking statistics are real people.
Every day, Islamic Relief teams on the ground meet mothers taking on crippling
levels of debt so their children can eat one small meal a day, and fathers
desperately searching for jobs that have disappeared. We meet boys dropping out
of school to try to earn a few pennies to support their families, and young
girls being married off as their parents can’t afford to feed them. Islamic
Relief: “What is Our Future?”
This occurs as the previously acknowledged former
government in Afghanistan has been overthrown by the cash-strapped Taliban, and
as international sanctions, including the freezing of the country’s foreign
reserves, worsen the country’s already precarious economic situation.

Foreign Minister: Malaysia Uses Foreign Funds To Train
Myanmar Refugees
Foreign minister Saifuddin
Abdullah said the government will not use public funds to help Myanmar refugees
obtain skills in this country. (Bernama pic)
----
14 Aug 2022
KUANTAN, Aug 14 — The government is using foreign funds
to cover the cost of skills training that will be given to Myanmar refugees,
said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.
According to him, the country has so far not been able
to absorb Myanmar refugees in the employment sector because they do not have
the required skills.
“Right now we have a shortage of foreign labour. Many
restaurants, factories and the construction sector are experiencing labour
shortages, but perhaps, employers are not willing to take them (refugees)
because they don’t have basic skills.
“Thus, we are planning a skills training programme for
certain people who want to work, but not using public funds, so we are thinking
how the funds can be obtained...as foreign minister I also lobbied to get funds
from other countries and international donors,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the Young
Voters Determine the Future of the Nation Forum, in conjunction with the Indera
Mahkota parliamentary Youth Day 2022 here, today, which was also attended by
the Malaysian Youth Council president, Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid.
Commenting further, Saifuddin, who is also Indera
Mahkota member of Parliament, said that thus far, Qatar is one of the countries
that have contributed by channelling US$50 million (RM222 million), of which US$6
million has been spent on refugee health matters.
“I mention this so that Malaysians don’t get upset
when the foreign minister talks about refugees in Malaysia and the need to
provide them with opportunities for work and education. We have never used the
public’s money, all of this is done from funds coming from outside using
contributions from foreign countries,” he said.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin, who is also the chairman of
Perikatan Nasional (PN) Pahang, when asked about the distribution of seats for
the 15th General Election (GE15) in this state, said that the initial
discussions with the PN coalition members stated to defend the seats that have
been won by their respective parties.
“Bersatu will contest in one parliamentary seat it
won, while PAS in eight state seats. Bersatu and Gerakan will not ask for the
seats won by PAS. We will look at the focus seats and who is most suitable to
contest.
“However, we are still looking at the appropriate
formula, and the decision will be finalised at the PN Supreme Council level,”
he explained.

Suspect in killings of 4 Muslim men in New Mexico left
trail of violence
Aug 13, 2022
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — In the six years since he
resettled in the United States from Afghanistan, the primary suspect in the
slayings of four Muslim men in Albuquerque has been arrested several times for
domestic violence and captured on camera slashing the tires of a woman’s car,
according to police and court records.
The lengthy pattern of violence — which began not long
after Muhammad Syed arrived in the states — has shocked members of the city’s
small, close-knit Muslim community, some of whom knew him from the local mosque
and who initially had assumed the killer was an outsider with a bias against
the Islamic religion. Now, they are coming to terms with the idea that they
never really understood the man.

Aug 14, 2022
Bengaluru: Police investigation has revealed that the
murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing leader Praveen Nettaru in

19-year-old Masood, in the district, officials aware of the probe said.
The gang behind the murder of the BJYM leader had

Magnitude 5.7 quake shakes eastern Indonesia; no
serious damage reported
August 14, 2022
An undersea earthquake shook part of eastern Indonesia
on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of serious damage or casualties.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 5.7-magnitude
quake struck about 158 kilometers (98 miles) off Laikit village in North

TAHA KILINÇ
14 AUGUST 2022
The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Ismailia, Egypt
in March 1928, and four years after its establishment, its headquarters moved
to the capital, Cairo. The goal of Hassan al-Banna, the founding leader of the
group, was not only to grow this movement faster, but also to establish contact

until the king's death in 1936, during which time the Brotherhood and their
leader were under British intelligence surveillance.
Hasan al-Banna was interested in studying advocacy and
guidance in Cairo, in addition to his interest in publishing books and
