Muslim Traders Boycott ‘Made In Pakistan’ Products in Gujarat, India

September 26, 2016

In a protest against the Uri terror attack, an association of Muslim traders in Vadodara on Sunday decided not to sell or consume various made in Pakistan products such as heena, spices and perfumes.

Muslim Traders’ Association, an unregistered group of Muslims traders in the city, also took out a protest march and burnt made in pakistan products near Mandvi area. They also appealed to other businessmen to join them.

“Made in Pakistan products such as spices, perfumes, maskara, gutkha, soaps and clothes are commonly used in the Muslim families in India. During festival seasons, all these products are consumed in large numbers. We Muslim Traders’ Association of Mandvi have decided that we will not sell or consume any made in Pakistan product,” said Fareed Cutpiecewala, a cloth merchant and Congress councillor of Ward No. 7 in the VMC.

According to Cutpiecewala, their group is of around 150 small and medium retail merchants and all of them have agreed to join hands to boycott Pakistani products.

“We have decided to stop selling various Pakistan made products to mark our protest. Thus, we will make Pakistan weaker economically,” said Imtiaz Attarwala, who runs a perfume shop in Mandvi area.

“I am urging the Central government to ban all products of Pakistan in India and I request all Indians not to buy Pakistani products. This is a small effort from our side, but if we all come together we can teach lesson to Pakistan, which is nurturing terrorism,” added Cutpiecewala.

Malaysia to Launch ‘Made by Muslims’ Logo

26 Sep 2016

Two Malaysian economic groups have created a new logo to distinguish products made by Muslims from those made by others in order to boost Islamic businesses.

Although Malaysian Muslims already have a symbol to denote products that are “halal,” or permissible by sharia law, the new logo will allow consumers to support businesses owned and operated by Muslims as well as providing further guarantees of a product’s religious purity.

The new logo is a joint project by the Malaysian Institute of International Islamic Corporation (Ikiam), together with the Malaysian Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda), who say that the market for halal products is massive, and still growing.

Promotors of the venture hope that the new logo will allow Muslim companies to cash in on the lion’s share of that market.

“The need for another halal logo is to distinguish products that were produced by Muslims against that of non-Muslims,” said Risda chair Zahidi Zainul Abidin, which will help “Muslim entrepreneurs make forays into the halal markets locally and abroad.”

Though halal refers mostly to food products, with items like pork and alcohol banned by the Qur’an, it also extends to items such as cosmetics, which can contain animal-derived products. It also affects how food and other products are prepared and stored.

With some 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, market potential is enormous. According to the United States Halal Association, the global halal food market is worth $632 billion, and the entire Sharia-compliant product market worldwide is worth more than $2 trillion yearly.

Last December, Malaysia inaugurated its first halal-compliant airline, Rayani Air, one of just a few airlines in the world to comply with Islamic principles. Flight attendants were required to wear a headscarf, no alcohol was served, all food was halal-certified and prayers were recited before each flight.

Plagued by complaints of late flights, last-minute cancellations, a pilots’ strike and an unsuccessful safety audit, however, the airline was shut down in June.

Let’s Recognize Contributions of Islamic Living Legends in Ghana

SEPTEMBER 26 2016

Two weeks ago we commenced series of write ups meant to showcase contributions of notable Islamic personalities towards advancement of the religion in Ghana. Our first two write ups emphasized forcefully the peace Ghana is currently enjoying as partly due to good Islamic practices laden with neighbourliness, being promoted in the affairs of the nation as directed by Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) 1400 years ago. As was expected, many people accepted points made in the articles but a few people who had the opportunity to read the pieces on line, for no known reasons, have begun raising doubts about the credibility of my claims that Muslims in Ghana led by the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu and other Islamic leaders are largely promoters of peaceful coexistence in the country .It is true that Ghana is touted as one of the most peaceful nations of the world with a tag of its citizens being very hospitable. This situation has been achieved with the contribution and support of all including Muslims in Ghana. However in view of the worldwide phenomenon of emerging radical groups in Arab nations wanting to overthrow the existing governance systems to establish Islamic states, many are those who are expressing doubts that we in Ghana may soon give in to the operation of extremists who would wreak havoc on moderate Muslims, Christians and the government that the jihadists consider western oriented. What is more frightening is the emergence of BOKO HARRAM operating close to Ghana in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroons and some North African countries like Somalia and Libya. The fear has been that the activities such as suicide bombings and attacks on government installations like oil pipelines as happening in Nigeria may soon occur in Ghana. Some of the readers went on to say that the only stock in trade of Muslims is to convert people to Islam through force by waging war on innocent people. But Ghanaians together with the Muslims dotted in all parts of the country in the Zongos will disappoint the “doubting Thomases”. Since the bombings of the twin towers in New York in the US ON 9/11 Some jihadists have tried over the years to enter and use Ghana as their centre of operation without success because they could not find willing allies in Ghana. Ghanaian Muslims are wide awake and therefore will not tolerate extremists and terrorists.

US, UK Supporting War Crimes in Middle East: American Scholar

September 26, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA) - An American scholar said the UK, US and their allies are acting selectively on the issue of human rights, and only give preference to pursue their political interests in the Middle East; even it amounts to supporting war crimes in the volatile region.

Stephen Zunes, a California-based international relations scholar, states that London and Washington demonstrate a double standard approach to war crimes, Sputnik reported.

The remarks came as recent reports show the UK is one of the major weapon providers for the Saudis. It approved over £3 billion in arms sales to reinstate former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a Saudi ally.

Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen since 2015. The war has already left 10,000 people dead and over a million malnourished children, according to the UN.

Even US Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) has stated in a recent interview that there's an American imprint on every civilian life lost in Yemen.

Under the administration of President Barack Obama the US has sold more weapons to Saudi Arabia than any other administration. America also assisted the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen by intelligence and refuelling planes during airstrikes.

"If you talk Yemenis, they will tell you, this is not perceived to be a Saudi bombing campaign. This is perceived to be a U.S. bombing campaign," Murphy said.

The European Union attempted to launch an independent international inquiry into Saudi Arabia's aggression in Yemen and gather support for its proposal. However, the UK opposition undermined those efforts and forced the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to replace the proposal with a much weaker one "to monitor and report on the situation."

The US takes the same approach to Israel's war crimes against Palestinians. It is a major arms provider to Israel.

Last year, at the 29th regular session of the UNHRC, the US was the only country in the world to oppose a resolution calling for Israel to be held accountable for war crimes. "This is unfortunately typical of a number of Western nations when it comes to the investigations of war crimes," Zunes said in an interview with Press TV on Sunday.

"Despite all the pontificating about human rights by these major powers, it is more of a political issue for them," he said.

"They will highlight and sometimes even exaggerate crimes against humanity and other human rights abuses by countries they perceive as enemy but deny, minimize and cover up for such crimes by governments they consider to be allies," Zunes explained.

ISIS used codes to contact Hyderabad operatives

Sep 26, 2016

HYDERABAD: Popo, Jarasim, Afgn, AQ, Arman, Armansani, Zarrar and many other words might sound meaningless and weird. For Islamic State (IS) kingpins, controlling Indian operations and their operatives working here, it means a lot as they are the code words used in internal communication during their `Jihadi Mission'.

In the IS circles, `Popo' means police, while `Jarasim' refers to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). A tiny dictionary of code words and their meaning was scripted and circulated by fugitive, Yusuf Al Hindi, who is based in Syria and supervising recruitment of Indian youth for the outfit.

Yusuf, alias Shafi Armar, had used the code language during his communication with the arrested IS activists from Hyderabad and their associates from other parts of the country . He had used the same code during his interaction with the latest busted module a couple of months ago in Hyderabad and the one unearthed in January .

The dreaded Taliban is often referred as `T', the Al Qaida is simply 'Afgn` AQ', while ` is the short from for Afghanistan. Similarly, the operatives also had pseudo names and they were strictly instructed by Yusuf to follow this jargon to "deceive the security agencies''. For their communication, including sending of inspirational videos and photos, Yusuf has been using http:www.justpaste.in, a popular site among the IS activists and the portal shot to fame became of the usage by terrorists for the spread of their infamous activities and agenda.

"Investigations revealed that Yusuf had sent a link from http:justpaste.itsusi to wannabe IS activists either on Facebook or email or other media in which he had sent some code words for deceiving the security agencies on jihadi mission and how to become a good foot soldier for ISIS. He also clarified that it has to be kept confidential,'' NIA officials found during their investigation and intimated about their modus operandi to a court in Delhi recently.

Apart from Yusuf Al Hindi, two other fugitives, including Rizwan Ahmed, alias Azad, have been luring youth from India, especially Hyderabad, to join the ranks of the IS.

According to NIA, Yusuf had sent Rs 5 lakhs to the arrested Mudabbir from Mahrashtra through hawala operatives, who happened to be a lungi seller from Dongri area and another person from Zaveri Bazar in Mumbai. Mudabbir, inturn, transferred the money to city-based persons Nafees, Abu Anas and a few others for their support to IS operations.

Big breakthrough in Burdwan blast case, six Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh terrorists nabbed in Assam

Monday, September 26, 2016

Dispur: In a major breakthrough, the authorities on Monday arrested six operatives belonging to the Bangladesh-based terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which is believed to have played a role in the Burdwan blast in October 2014.

According to initial reports, five out of the six arrested terrorists are wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Burdwan blast case.

They have been arrested by the Special Task Force of the Kolkata Police, which was been tracking their activities for a long time.

Out of those arrested, 3 are from Bangladesh, and the remaining three are from India.

News agency PTI said six top Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh activists have been arrested from West Bengal and Assam by Kolkata Police Special Task Force.

The authorities have also seized a large cache of arms and ammunition including detonators, cables, mobile phones etc. from them.

With the arrest, the Special Task Force claimed to have busted a major terror module of the Bangladesh-based terror outfit.

The arrested operatives were planning to carry out more attacks on the elected government in Bangladesh and in bordering Indian states.

They will be interrogated by the NIA sleuths for more leads in connection with the case.

The arrest has also exposed the link between India's Bodo militants and the Bangladesh based Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen.

The NIA, which is probing the case, had earlier chargesheeted at least 21 people in Burdwan blast case that took place in October 2014.

The charges against the accused include criminal conspiracy and waging war against the nation.

The agency had taken over the case from the West Bengal police a few days after the explosion. Investigators have found that Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were being fabricated in the house and later smuggled to neighbouring Bangladesh.

Uri, the beginning of war against terrorism: Amit Shah

September 26, 2016

Kozhikode (Kerala): BJP President Amit Shah on Sunday said the Uri terror attack last week was not a “result” but the beginning of India’s war against terrorism, and added that ultimately the country will succeed in this fight.

Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Council meet here, Shah also issued a statement on the Uri terror attack, condemning Pakistan and vowing to win the fight against Islamabad-sponsored terrorism.

“Lambi ladai hai jo hum par hamare padosi desh dwara thopi gayee hai. Uri hamla padav matra hai, parinaam nahi. Antim vijay hamari hogi (This is a long fight, foisted upon us by our neighbouring country. The Uri terror attack is but a stage (padav) and not a result. The final victory will be ours),” Shah said in the statement.

The statement was unanimously adopted by the National Council without any discussion.

Shah said the BJP has taken this attack very seriously.

“The country is determined to give a befitting reply to the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” he said.

“During last eight months, 117 terrorists were killed, our soldiers foiled 17 attempts of infiltration and the Uri attack was a result of their frustration,” Shah said.

Supporting the government’s actions to isolate Pakistan internationally, he said that Islamabad has been isolated internationally.

“Howsoever long the fight against terrorism would go, we are ready to fight and we will win it,” Shah added.

Dubbing terrorism as a threat to democracy and humanity, Shah said terrorism itself is an offender of human rights.

“If terrorism becomes state policy of any country, it is not less than a war crime. Pakistan today is supporting terrorism openly as its state policy and is also sponsoring it,” he said, adding that India has been a victim of this policy of Pakistan since long.

“We have faced many such terror attacks. Pakistan has also supported the separatist movement in Kashmir.”

Shah affirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and no one can separate it from India.

“For peace, we are ready to hold discussion with everybody but not with those who have no faith or belief in the Indian Constitution. Peace talks can’t be held with those who don’t believe in our Constitution,” he asserted.

The BJP President’s statement described Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s speech at the United Nation General Assembly as open proof that the neighbouring country openly advocates terrorism.

“The world was taken aback when he (Sharif) dubed a Hizbul terrorist as a peaceful youth. Pakistan prepares terrorists by investing crores of dollars and sends them around the world for spreading terrorism. It has emerged as a centre of global terrorism.”

He said the BJP and NDA government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against terrorism, and appealed to the people of the country and all political parties to extend support in this battle.

Enough warnings, just act against Pakistan: ally Shiv Sena to PM Modi

September 26, 2016

Mumbai: Condemning the Narendra Modi-led government’s move to launch a diplomatic war against Islamabad after the dastardly Uri attack, the Shiv Sena on Monday said that the Centre is simply having war of words with Pakistan rather than taking some serious actions against the neighbouring nation.

“Solders are losing their lives and we are still busy in giving warning to Pakistan and appreciating our efforts. But the truth is if Pakistan really wants to have war with us then we are also ready,” the Sena said in its editorial, Saamna.

The Shiv Sena further asserted that the Canter is talking about isolating Pakistan, but eventually all the supporters of India can be witnessed maintaining their friendship with Islamabad whether it be Russia with its Joint drill, Indonesia which provided Defence equipment or Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) who has extended its support to Pakistan openly and is willing to send Fact finding committee to Kashmir.

“No matter how much hue and cry we make to isolate Pakistan after the Uri attack on the international forum, the truth remains that all these efforts are useless. In fact a new fear has cropped up that India might face isolation on the global platform,” the editorial said.

The BJP ally emphasised that Pakistan’s statement asserting that the Uri attack took place because of the Kashmir unrest, somehow indicates that they accepted their involvement in the attack. On India’s decision to provide evidence in the United Nations against Pakistan, the Shiv Sena

said that since the UN is asserting to resolve the issue bilaterally, then there is no use of providing evidence on this issue.

Earlier on Saturday, the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on Pakistan and said that India would never forget the Uri terror attack and would make all efforts to isolate Islamabad globally.

“A day will come when the people of Pakistan will go against their own government to fight terrorism. India has been successful in isolating you (Pakistan) globally, and we will intensify our efforts to make sure that you are isolated globally. The people of Pakistan should ask their leaders that India and Pakistan got freedom in the same year, but India exports software and your (Pakistan) leaders are exporting terrorists,” said Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a public rally in Kozhikode.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will address the UN General Assembly in New York today, where she is expected to give a stinging response to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s UNGA speech.

Outlining India’s focus for the UN General Assembly session, New Delhi’s envoy to the UN Syed Akbaruddin said terrorism is the primary concern for India as well as for nations across the world.

He listed reform of the UN Security Council, sustainable development, climate change and peacekeeping as other priorities for India in the current UNGA session. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup also said that one can also expect a continued focus from India on the theme of terrorism which is today undoubtedly the single biggest challenge to international peace and security.

Pakistan positive about future ties with India, says Abdul Basit

September 26, 2016

New Delhi : Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit has said that his country remains positive about the fact that ties with India will surmount the current crisis with maturity.

Echoing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s sentiments on Islamabad desiring a normal and cooperative relationship with New Delhi, Basit said both nations need to revive the spirit of cooperation forged after the January 2016 terror strike that took place in the Pathankot air force base.

Basit said Pakistan is committed to not allowing its territory to be used for violence anywhere in the world, including India. He said the ties were doing well despite a tardy pace when the killing of a militant in Kashmir set off a slide.

He admitted that bilateral ties are on a downswing since the elimination of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on JUly 8.

He told The Telegraph in an interview that,”The challenge for diplomats on both sides now is to retrieve that momentum.Living in Delhi and meeting people from all walks of life, I do find a desire for understanding and peace here, too. I hear voices here that urge us to come together rather than become hostages to rhetoric.”

“I strongly believe Pakistan and India do not gain anything from creating hype. War is not a solution, war creates more problems, he added.

He insisted that dialogue is the only way forward for both nations.

Malaysia to Launch ‘Made by Muslims’ Logo

Anwar Ibrahim Didn’t Bring In Wahhabism

September 26, 2016

PETALING JAYA: PKR has denied allegations that former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was responsible for bringing in the Wahhabi school of Islam to Malaysia.

“There’s no connection whatsoever.

“Who is actually obsessed about this Wahhabism, Asyaari, Maturidi and Sunnis?

“This wasn’t an issue back then; we are only hearing of it now,” PKR’s Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty told FMT.

The head of PKR’s Bureau for Religious Understanding was responding to an interview given by controversial activist-cum-lawyer Siti Kasim to a news portal yesterday.

Muhammad Nur, the former president of Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) — an organisation which was once led by Anwar — also rubbished Siti’s assertions that the former Opposition leader was responsible for Islamisation.

“Islamisation among Malays began in Malacca during the 15th century, when Parameswara converted and changed his name to Sultan Muzafar Shah.

“It (Islamisation) is a continuous process. There is no compulsion; only Siti Kasim, who is lagging behind,” he told FMT.

Islamisation refers to a process initiated under the administration of former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the early 1980s, in what was seen as an effort to weaken PAS’ Islamic influence at the time.

In an interview with Malay Mail Online, Siti said she was “the happiest person” when Anwar was arrested the first time for sodomy and corruption.

“I’m not joking because I think Malaysia was safe at that time. But then, unfortunately, of course, the people had already been brainwashed by then.

“He already set in place this brainwashing in school.

“I blame it on him; he’s the one who brought in Islamisation to Malaysia. It’s nothing wrong to bring in good things, but he’s bringing in the Wahhabism kind of Islam,” she was reported as saying by the portal.

Less than 1pc of Malaysian Military Personnel Have Islamic State Links

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Bukit Aman Special Branch Investigation has revealed that less than one per cent of the Malaysian Armed Forces personnel are found to be involved in the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

Without disclosing the number of military personnel involved in the militant group, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the ministry would not protect any officers or officers in the armed forces involved in such activities because the IS threat was a global threat.

“At present the Armed Forces Religious Corps (Kagat) is given the role to monitor and ensure that no officers or personnel are influenced by IS,” he told reporters after officiating the 40th Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS) here today.

He said the IS terrorists spread their propaganda and ideology through social media because it was easier to reach and influence many people.

Hishammuddin added concerted efforts to curb the spread of IS was being implemented based on four approaches, namely ‘Strategise’, ‘Engage’, ‘Anticipate’, ‘Lead’ or in summary ‘SEAL’, with the involvement of various enforcement agencies.

In another development, Hishammuddin said he would be on a working visit to the United States on Wednesday to attend the US Asean Defence Minister Meeting involving 10 Asean nations from September 29 to October 2.

“During the meeting, 10 Asean defence ministers will attend and meet with the UN Defence Secretary, Ashton Carter,” he said.

Also present at the PAMS seminar were Army Chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor and West Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim.

PAMS is a military seminar being held annually that involved 34 Asia Pacific countries comprising senior military officers from the rank of Lt Col to Major Gen.

The four-day seminar is a discussion medium on military management and idea sharing platform that looks at understanding among the countries involved.

Among the countries involved are the United States, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Fiji, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and United Kingdom.

As time goes on we shall open up to explain this situation in our reports to Ghanaians and the world at large. Yes it is true that nasty conflicts are occurring in Ghana over a period of time between Muslim factions and conflicts involving Muslim settlers against non-Muslims leading to loss of lives and injuries as happened at old Tafo near Kumasi the Ashanti Regional Capital recently over a portion of cemetery land. We have been experiencing chieftaincy, partisan and land disputes. However we do not believe the situation in Ghana can deteriorate to the level reached in Nigeria, Syria, Libya and Somalia. The reason is that religious leaders and education authorities are good at counseling their followers using texts of their religious books. Muslim leadership in Ghana in particular will not give in to the infiltration of radical Muslim bodies such as Alshabab, BOKO HARRAM, the Talibans and Islamic jihad. The Muslim leadership in Ghana has been embarking on teachings of Islam for Muslims to fight in the way of Islam but would not go to the extent of urging them to use arms to exterminate many people in the name of Islam.

Boko Haram leader posts video claiming good health

SEPTEMBER 26 2016

KANO — The embattled leader of jihadist group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, resurfaced in a video posted online on Sunday, rejecting assertions by the Nigerian army that he had been badly wounded.

"You have been spreading in the social media that you injured or killed me," Shekau said in the 40-minute video dated September 25. "Oh tyrants, I’m in a happy state, in good health and in safety."

The Nigerian army said on August 23 that the militant chief had been seriously wounded in the shoulder in an air raid in which several commanders were killed.

Nigeria has reported him dead before, but the army’s new claim was bolstered when Boko Haram, which pledged allegiance in 2015 to the Islamic State (IS), released a video on September 13 without Shekau in it.

However, in the video released on Sunday, Shekau points to a date on an Islamic calendar corresponding to September 25 2016.

Speaking in Hausa, Arabic and English and in dialects spoken in northeast Nigeria, he appeared to be in good physical health.

He used the video to issue threats against President Muhammadu Buhari, who appealed to the UN this week for help in negotiating the release of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by the militants more than two years ago.

"If you want your girls, bring back our brethren," Shekau says.

Boko Haram, which has killed 20,000 people since 2009 in its quest for an Islamist state in northeast Nigeria, has been in the grip of a power struggle since late 2015.

IS high command said in August, Shekau had been replaced as leader by Abu Musab al-Barnawi, 22, the son of Boko Haram’s founder Mohammed Yusuf.

But Shekau has maintained he is still in charge.

The first signs of a rift appeared after Shekau pledged allegiance to IS in March 2015 and changed Boko Haram’s name to Islamic State West Africa Province.

Clashes have since been reported between rival Boko Haram factions in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State, near Lake Chad.

Barnawi, once a protege of Shekau, has criticised his former mentor for his indiscriminate killing of civilians, most of them fellow Muslims. He had also criticised the brutal leadership style of Shekau, alleging he has secretly killed top militant commanders who disagreed with him.

But many experts say he is not a spent force.

"He has more fighters than either al-Barnawi or Nur, especially from the Kanuri ethnic group around Lake Chad," said Jacob Zenn from the Jameston Foundation, an expert on the conflict.

But Zenn said many of Shekau’s backers in the IS were now dead and the embattled leader "may therefore have few supporters in IS ranks to argue for his reinstatement over al-Barnawi. Shekau is therefore most likely to remain independent in the near future, which could mean that there will be no limits to a more indiscriminate killing campaign.

"This could garner Shekau greater attention as compensation for on-the-ground losses and resource deficiencies."

Security analysts have said the split could indicate a shift in focus by the pro-Barnawi faction away from targeting crowded marketplaces and mosques to hitting military and government targets.

Along with the tens of thousands killed, Boko Haram has made more than 2.8-million homeless, fleeing attacks on villages by ransacking militants in a conflict that has spilled over Nigeria’s borders into Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

The mass kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in July 2015 focused attention on Boko Haram, sparking a global campaign to "Bring Back Our Girls".

Nigerian soldiers have recaptured territory lost to the jihadists since they launched a military campaign in February 2014.

Nigeria is facing security threats on multiple fronts: Boko Haram in the northeast, ethnic violence in the central region, Biafran separatists in the southeast and militants attacking oil infrastructure in the south.

No Agreement on Syria Envisaged without Iran's Partnership

September 26, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry underlined the necessity for finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Syria, and said "no agreement" will be made on the issue without Tehran's partnership.

"Negotiations and democratic election is the solution to the Syrian issue," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi told reporters in his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.

Stressing that Tehran has not changed its positions on Syria, he said, "No agreement will be made on Syria without Iran's partnership."

His remarks came after Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Syrian President Bashar Assad in a meeting in Damascus earlier this month discussed bilateral ties, and the latest developments in Syria.

During the meeting, Jaberi Ansari and President Assad underlined the need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister and Syrian president also discussed bilateral ties and mutual cooperation.

Jaberi Ansari reiterated that Iran is determined to continue providing all possible supports to Syria in its ongoing war on terrorism, and said, "Iran-Syria relations are not merely based on mutual interests, but are also based on a mutual vision and a wise political understanding of the threats to the region’s people, more importantly the threats of terrorism and extremism."

President Assad, for his part, underlined the importance of the support provided by Iran, Russia, and other friendly countries in bolstering the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war that targets them.

Jaberi Ansari also met Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem.

IRGC Ground Forces 5 Times Larger Than US Army

September 26, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- Mohsen Rafiqdoust, who served as minister of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps throughout the eight years of the Iraqi-imposed war on Iran, said the IRGC Ground Force is five times more than the US army troops, adding that the IRGC can dispatch 6 million troops to any battlefield in a matter of days.

"Today, the number of the IRGC Ground Force is five times more than the US army and it is the Ground Force which ends the wars," Rafiqdoust said, addressing a gathering in Tehran on Sunday.

"The IRGC Ground Force can send 6 million ready-for-combat troops to the battleground in less than 10 days," he added.

Noting that the country's warehouses are full of weapons and military equipment, Rafiqdoust said, "Our missiles are ready to be fired at Israel. This has been shown to the Americans and they have been allowed to have videos" (through their broadcast on Iranian TV).

Firing one artillery round against Iran by Israel would mean that "Iran will turn Tel Aviv into dust", he underlined.

In relevant remarks in 2014, Commander of the IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said his troops are among the best in the region.

"Today, the Army and IRGC's Ground Forces are among the best and most powerful ground forces of the region," Pakpour told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony to commemorate IRGC Missile Industry martyrs in Tehran.

Also in the same year, General Pakpour underscored the IRGC’s full preparedness to defend the security and territorial integrity of Iran powerfully.

“Thanks God and due to the good management done by Iran, we have no special security problem in the country; generally speaking, the problems are in our neighboring countries and sometimes the terrorist elements are directed towards Iran from outside,” Pakpour said at the time.

“The dedicated forces of the IRGC Ground Force are fully ready to defend and establish security in every part of Iran under any conditions,” he added then.

Iran Not to Stop Enhancement of Defense Power

September 26, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan underlined that Iran will never accept any pause in developing different weapons and military equipment to defend itself.

"We never accept any halt to the enhancement of our defensive and military power," General Pourdastan said in Tehran on Monday.

He stressed Iran's high military power, and said, "The Armed Forces' powerful hand can suppress any enemy thousands of kilometers away."

"Also in proxy wars, if any threat is posed, both the aggressors and the country which supports them will receive a crushing response," he said, adding that Iran sees no exception among hostile countries.

General Pourdastan, meantime, said that Iran's doctrine is defensive and based on deterrence power.

In relevant remarks in July, General Pourdastan said his troops are monitoring events and enemy moves in the region and have devised various plans to stand against any possible scenario of threat.

Addressing a gathering of senior Ground Force commanders in Western Iran, General Pourdastan underlined the highest level of combat preparedness among his troops, and cautioned that sensitive conditions are reigning the region.

"The Army Ground Force monitors events and developments as well as enemy movements in the region precisely and has developed a plan for combating any type of threat," he stressed.

Iran Responds Threats with Threats

September 26, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh warned that Iran is always prepared to give a crushing response to the slightest aggression of the enemy, stressing that threat is his country's response to any threat.

"The Iranian armed forces are at a high level of preparedness to counter potential threats," Brigadier General Hajizadeh said on Sunday.

He reiterated that due to the hard efforts made by Iranian experts and the vigilance of armed forces, Iran has a high level of security both inside the country and beyond the borders.

Last week, Commander of the IRGC Navy Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi underlined that the Wednesday military parades held in different parts of Iran, specially in the Persian Gulf waters, should be seen as a response to the US threats.

"This year the parades have a fundamental message: given the fact that the US has focused on threatening the Islamic Republic of Iran in the sea, we have today displayed our defensive and offensive power, and of course only a part of our power," Rear Admiral Fadavi told reporters in the Southern port city of Bandar Abbas on the sidelines of the nationwide parades.

He said that almost 450 home-made vessels of the Islamic Republic's army and the IRGC naval forces have participated in this year's annual parades in the Persian Gulf region.

Pakistan demands international probe into Uri attack

Monday, September 26, 2016

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz demanded an international probe into the Uri attack, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.

In an interview with BBC Urdu, Aziz alleged that India always starts accusing Pakistan immediately after any attack without waiting for an investigation into the matter.

Therefore, he said, "an independent international commission should be constituted to unearth the facts".

It is not the first time India has levelled 'baseless allegations' against Pakistan, the adviser said.

Any such attack neither benefits Pakistan, nor Kashmir, Aziz said, adding that the attack diverts the world's attention from human rights violations committed by Indian forces in India-held Kashmir (IHK).

Tensions between Pakistan and India have been running high since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in July sparked anti-government protests in IHK, with over 80 people dead in clashes between protesters and Indian authorities.

Aziz's remarks come as Pakistan and India face off at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) over the unrest in Kashmir.

Earlier this month, 18 Indian soldiers were killed when heavily-armed suspected militants attacked the Uri army base in IHK just days before PM Nawaz was set to address the UNGA. India accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack.

Nawaz Sharif in his UNGA speech maintained that Pakistan wants peace with India but it is "not possible without resolving the Kashmir issue". The premier urged the UN to demilitarise Jammu and Kashmir and called for steps to implement UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

India, exercising its right of reply, termed Pakistan a 'terrorist state' in a strongly-worded rebuttal, accusing it of 'sponsoring terrorism'.

In his first speech since the Uri attack, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to isolate Pakistan in the world.

Pakistan maintains support for Kashmiris' right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions and has called for a UN fact-finding mission to investigate human rights violations in IHK.

The Foreign Office has also said Pakistan is open to the idea of the UN High Commissioner visiting Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Pak Court Snubs Hafiz Saeed, Refuses To Prod Government To Talk Of Kashmir

September 26, 2016

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has dismissed a writ petition by Lashkar chief and 26/11 attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed seeking to direct the Pakistan government to speak of Kashmir at the UN Security Council and other international fora.

Lahore High court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali dismissed the petition, observing that “the matter raised by the petitioner is not justifiable before the court and falls within the domain of politics”.

Hafiz Saeed’s counsel AK Dogar said the verdict will be challenged in the intra-court.

Pakistan has already attempted to target India at the United Nations General Assembly, drawing a sharp retort.

Despite a $10 million bounty on his head, Hafiz Saeed has a free run in Pakistan. India has repeatedly questioned why he has not been brought to justice, alleging that it was further proof that Pakistan was sponsoring terror.

Diplomatic tension between the two countries have spiraled since the September 18 attack at an army base in Kashmir’s Uri, in which 18 soldiers have died. India has directly blamed Pakistan, which has dodged all questions on the attack.

‘Top Pakistani Taliban commander killed in Afghanistan’

September 26, 2016

Peshawar: One of the top Pakistani Taliban commanders along with at least 10 other militants have been killed in an operation in eastern Afghanistan, a spokesman for a powerful faction of the outfit said here today.

Azam Khan Tariq, the former spokesperson for the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was killed reportedly in air strikes carried out by Afghan and NATO forces in Paktika province, said the spokesman for Sajna Group, which had broken away from the TTP in May 2014.

According to the spokesman, Tariq’s son and nine other militants were also killed in the operation.

However the nature of the operation was unclear.

Tariq, who had a 20 million rupee bounty on his head, was also known as Raess Khan and reportedly killed late yesterday.

Tariq worked as chief TTP spokesman from 2009 until 2013 and was a close aide to former TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone strike in Pakistan in 2013.

He figured in a list of TTP commanders for whom the Pakistani government offered USD 5 million in 2009.

In May 2014, the outlawed TTP split into two factions after a major group based in South Waziristan quit the TTP and accused its leadership turning the outfit into an organisation providing safety to criminals.

The other group was led by Khan Saeed Sajna, after whom the faction was named. Sajna was reported killed earlier this year in a targeted US drone strike in Afghanistan.

‘Politics of protest’ to help country’s enemies: Fazl

Monday, September 26, 2016

SARGODHA: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman says as India is bringing its forces on the borders, it is need of the hour to unite the nation instead of doing politics of “Dharna” and such type of politics will be tantamount to helping the enemies.

Addressing a workers’ convention here on Sunday, he said political forces staging marches and sits-in were planning to enforce the western culture and the people were well aware of their anti-Islamic activities that’s why they rejected such forces during the by-election.

Fazl said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his address in the UN General Assembly had successfully pleaded the case of Kashmir as Kashmiris wanted right to self-determination in accordance with resolutions of the UN. He said a meeting of Kashmir Committee had been called on 27th to review the prevalent situation.

The JUI-F chief said India was following a policy of aggression though it’s leadership knew that war was not the solution to any issue. He criticised the unethical attitude of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the Pakistani government and other institutions were showing responsibility instead of following the course of war.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Mufti Shahid Masood, Maulana Noor Muhammad Hazarvi and Maulana Muhammad Akram Toofani also addressed the convention.

Narendra Modi Interfering In Our Internal Affairs, Alleges Pak Foreign Secretary

September 26, 2016

Islamabad : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement violates all UN and international charters against non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, according to a top Pakistani official.

The remark was made by Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry in an interview with DawnNews.

Responding to PM Modi’s address in Kerala on Saturday, where he denounced Pakistan for supporting and exporting terror, besides warning that the neighbouring country will be isolated as a “terror state”, Mr Chaudhry said that several UN resolutions recognised Islamabad as a party to the Kashmir dispute and India too recognised that status.

But India has no justification for interfering in Pakistan’s internal affairs, he added.

The Foreign Secretary said it was unfortunate that the Indian leadership “continues to indulge in a vilification campaign against Pakistan by making provocative statements and hurling baseless accusations”.

He said that such display of irresponsible behaviour at the highest political level was regrettable.

“It is evident that, as an act of desperation, India is trying to distract world attention from the atrocities perpetrated by its occupation forces against innocent and defenceless Kashmiris, including women and children,” Mr Chaudhry said.

The Foreign Secretary said that while casting aspersions on Pakistan, India continued to “sponsor terrorism in Pakistan directly through its state apparatus”.

The arrest and confessional statement of Kulbhushan Yadav — the Indian national arrested in Pakistan on charges of being a RAW agent — had proved India’s involvement, he added.

He pointed out that the international community had taken notice of blatant human rights violations, with concern expressed by several countries as well as the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

“There are increasing demands for independent investigations and fact-finding missions to be sent to Kashmir,” Mr Chaudhry added.

Ambassador Jilani said that by making such statements, Indian leaders were trying to hide the atrocities their forces were committing against the people of Kashmir. “We reject the statement. This is highly irresponsible. The content of the statement is a distortion and counter-intuitive,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jalil Abbas Jilani, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Washington, believed that Modi’s statement shows India’s nervousness with the situation in held Kashmir.

Mr Jilani said that to hide their guilt and nervousness, Indian leaders had forgotten the language of diplomacy, Dawn News reported on Monday.

“With such statements, they cannot draw a curtain on their brazen acts of terrorism and crimes against humanity in Kashmir,” he said.

The situation in Kashmir demanded a responsible and realistic response, but “unfortunately, India is acting in a highly irresponsible manner”, Mr Jilani said.

“India is making a wrong example and it will hurt everybody,” he said, adding “If India continues on this path, it will end up isolating itself instead of Pakistan.”

Turkey-US collaboration can end ISIL: President Erdoğan

September 26, 2016

Turkey and the U.S. could end the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) if they collaborate against the group together, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stated.

Turkish military officials were in contact with their American counterparts and shared Ankara’s conditions regarding the fight against ISIL, daily Hürriyet quoted Erdoğan as saying on Sept. 25 during an interview conducted en route from the U.S. to Turkey.

The total number of ISIL members in Syria was nearly 10,000, while similar figures applied to Iraq, he said.

“If Turkey and the U.S. cannot cope with this number [ISIL militants], what a shame,” he stated, stressing that if both countries used their full capabilities, they could end the jihadist group.

“The arms of the coalition countries should target Daesh [ISIL], the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party [PYD], and the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units [YPG] instead of our tanks. But instead German ‘Milan’ arms in the hands of terrorists hit our tanks,” Erdoğan said.

Elaborating on how the leading actors in the Syrian crisis considered a no-fly zone proposal in the war-torn country, Erdoğan said the U.S. had welcomed Turkey’s proposal since the beginning of talks, while Russian President Vladimir Putin did not say “no.”

“What is important is the support that would be given by the 65 member countries of the coalition forces. [U.S. Secretary of State John] Kerry, in his recent statement, mentioned a no-fly zone. That’s where they would end. They have no other choice,” he stated.

Turkey was continuing its “train and equip program” for Syrian opposition in order to prepare a “national military,” Erdoğan said, claiming that there were a total of 65,000 fighters involved.

He added that the Syrian town of al-Rai was now cleared of ISIL and moderate Syrian opposition groups had moved into al-Bab with the support of Turkish tanks.

Erdoğan touched on Ankara’s proposal to establish a 4,500-square-kilometer safe haven which would be 40-45 kilometers in depth towards the south of al-Bab. Turkey could provide housing in this area with financial support from the international community, he added, stressing that the PYD only had a “minor presence” in the Manbij region of Syria.

Asked about a statement by U.S. Minister of Defense Ashton Carter that Washington would continue arming Syrian Kurds, Erdoğan said he raised the issue during a meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

“I told Biden that they landed two planes full of arms in Kobane. He said, ‘I am not informed about that.’ I said, “But I am aware.” Yet, the next day Carter said they had given and will continue to give arms to them [the YPG],” he said.

Elaborating on possible cooperation between Turkey and the U.S. on a joint military offensive on Raqqa, given Ankara has ruled out the inclusion of the PYD, Erdoğan said interlocutors were discussing the issue.

“We cannot say anything at the moment since we have not clearly seen the attitude of the U.S. But Turkey will not be part of an operation if the U.S. wants to conduct it with the PYD and YPG. But if they do not, we can carry out this struggle along with the U.S.,” he said.

Erdoğan did not elaborate on Turkey’s possible air strike support if the U.S. carried out a land operation with the PYD, saying that he first had to consult Turkey’s security institutions.

Police detain 76 judiciary personnel in coup attempt probe

September 26, 2016

Turkish police detained 76 judiciary personnel early on Sept. 26 during operations conducted in four provinces as a part of the investigation into the Gülen movement, which was accused of orchestrating the July 15 failed coup attempt.

Counter-terrorism police conducted an operation based from the western province of İzmir at around 5:30 a.m. targeting recording clerks over alleged links to the Gülen movement after a detention warrant for 101 suspects was issued at the İzmir courthouse as a part of the ongoing investigation by the İzmir Public Prosecutor’s Office.

A total of 76 suspects were detained in simultaneous operations conducted in the Aegean provinces of Manisa and Kütayha and the Central Anatolian province of Konya.

Operations to apprehend the remaining suspects were ongoing.

Some of the detained suspects had allegedly been using the ByLock application, which was a communication system allegedly used by around 180,000 Gülenists.

Included among those for whom detention warrants were issued were suspects who attended Gülen movement meetings and recording clerks who had been appointed through irregularity in exams. It also included assistants of prosecutors who were previously detained in operations targeting the movement.

Turkish Army Preparing for 3rd Phase of Euphrates Shield Operations in Northern Syria

September 26, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- Media sources announced that the Turkish Army is reinvigorating its presence in Syria's Northern province of Aleppo to launch the third phase of its so-called anti-ISIL operation, codenamed the Euphrates Shield, alongside pro-Ankara terrorist groups.

"The Turkish Army is dispatching more soldiers and military equipment to Northern Syria to launch the third phase of the Euphrates Shield Operations to back terrorist groups, mainly the Free Syrian Army (FSA), to capture the key city of al-Bab in Northern Aleppo," the sources said.

"The Turkish army, meantime, has deployed thousands of soldiers at its border with Syria to use them against the ISIL if the FSA fails to capture al-Bab," they added.

"Turkey blamed ISIL of shelling its border town of Kilis," they said.

Some Turkish analysts believe that without pushing ISIL back from al-Bab, the Euphrates Shield Operation's objectives will not be materialized.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last week that the country's armed forces would continue their advance Southward in Northern Syria as the military campaign to clear militants and Kurdish fighters from the area would continue.

Speaking with reporters ahead of flying to the UN General Assembly in New York, Erdogan said he planned to raise the issue of establishing a "safe zone" in Northern Syria that he estimated would span 1,930 square miles.

"I emphasize once again the contribution of the Euphrates Shield operation in Northern Syria to resolving the refugee crisis. Currently, we are moving South," he said.

Erdogan noted that residents of Jarabulus and other Northern Syrian towns reclaimed from the ISIL terror group began returning to their homes since the operation was launched August 24.

Israeli military indicts Palestinians for 'incitement' over social media

September 26, 2016

JERUSALEM: The Israeli military says it has indicted more than 145 Palestinians so far this year for incitement over social media.

Sunday's announcement comes amid an Israeli campaign to stamp out the online incitement it claims has fuelled a yearlong campaign of Palestinian attacks.

The Palestinians claim the violence is a result of nearly 50 years of Israeli military occupation.

Earlier this month, a pair of Israeli ministers met with Facebook executives to discuss ways of limiting calls to violence on the platform.

Israel says Facebook should do more to monitor and control content, raising a host of issues over whether the company is responsible for material posted by its users.

Israeli lawmakers have proposed legislation that seeks to force social networks to remove content Israel considers to be incitement.

Islamic cleric gets 8 months’ jail in Israel for call to kill Jews

September 26, 2016

JERUSALEM: An Israeli court on Sunday sentenced a Palestinian Islamic preacher to eight months in prison over a sermon at a volatile Jerusalem holy site in which he called for Jews to be killed.

The Jerusalem magistrates’ court had in March found Sheikh Omar Abu Sara, 51, guilty of incitement to violence and racism in a sermon he delivered at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound.

In his Nov 28, 2014 sermon, which was also uploaded to YouTube, Abu Sara said “the Jews” were treacherous, stubborn, murderous, rude and shameless, while also calling them “monkeys and pigs”.

“I’m telling Jews explicitly — it’s time to slaughter you, time to fight you, time to kill you,” he said, according to a transcript of the speech in the court decision. He vowed Muslims will “free this land from your filth, and that day is approaching.”

The sermon came against the backdrop of months of unrest over perceived Jewish attempts to take control over the holy site, which Jews refer to as the Temple Mount and consider their most sacred.

There were also tensions over the murder of a Palestinian teenager in July in revenge for the killings of three Jewish teenagers in the West Bank.

The killings were part of a cycle of violence that led up to the 2014 war between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza.

Abu Sara claimed the sermon should not be considered incitement to violence and racism since it was based on religious scriptures and teachings and contained “general and non-binding” statements, the decision said.

But the court rejected that argument, noting most of the sermon was not quotes but original statements by Abu Sara, who “sought to humiliate and degrade Jews” and “preach Jew-hatred to the other worshippers”.

The Islamic Waqf organisation, which administers the Al Aqsa compound, the third-holiest site in Islam, told AFP it as not aware of a preacher there by that name.

The sentence is to begin on Dec 18 the court said, and Abu Sara can appeal within 45 days.

The Jewish high holidays in October see a rise in Jewish visitors to the site, and authorities were bracing for an increase in violence in and around east Jerusalem.

Violence since last October has killed 230 Palestinians, 34 Israelis, two Americans, one Jordanian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese, according to an AFP count.

Israel says most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks. Others were shot dead during protests or killed in Israeli air strikes on Gaza.

Many analysts say Palestinian frustration with the Israeli occupation and settlement building in the West Bank, comatose peace efforts and their own fractured leadership have helped feed the unrest. Israel says incitement by Palestinian leaders and media is a main cause of the violence.

September 26, 2016

British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson arrived in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Sept. 26 as a part of his two-day trip to Turkey to visit Syrian refugees, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Departing from Istanbul in a private jet, Johnson will make inspections at the container city in the border province which hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees who fled the civil war in their home country.

The British minister was greeted by Gaziantep Airport officials as security personnel took extensive security measures around the airport.

He was scheduled to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, as well as his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and EU Affairs Minister Ömer Çelik, during his visit.

The former London mayor’s visit to the country marks the first since he was sworn in as foreign minister in July.

Gaziantep was recently hit by an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) suicide bomb attack targeting a street wedding, which claimed 57 lives, mostly children, and wounded more than 90.

Deadly attack foiled in Kabul, suicide bomber shot dead, car bomb seized

Mon Sep 26 2016

A deadly suicide attack plot was thwarted in Kabul city earlier today after the Afghan security forces shot dead a would-be suicide bomber in the outskirts of the city.

According to the security sources, the bomber was shot dead in Hussain Khel village of Bagrami district as he was looking to ram a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) into an unknown target.

The sources further added that the would-be suicide bomber was identified by the security forces as he was pursuing his target.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the group announced its spring offensive in mid-April this year.

The group has managed to carry out several deadly attacks in capital Kabul and other key provinces and parts of the country during the past recent months.

The last deadly attack by the militants was carried out earlier this month after a suicide bomber carried out a coordinated attack near the Ministry of Defense compound that left at least 41 dead and around 100 others wounded.

Safe Haven For Bangladeshi Terrorists?

Sep 26, 2016

It seems the wheel has turned full circle: it is Dhaka’s turn now to complain to India regarding anti-Bangladesh activities being conducted from parts of West Bengal.

Bangladeshi investigating agencies probing the recent Gulshan café massacre and the extremist attack on a large Eid congregation at Sholakia, claim that arms and ammunition used in both cases had been procured and smuggled ‘from across the international border, from India.’ Without disclosing more details, Mr. Manirul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner of Dhaka, was quoted by Bangladeshi media as saying that the extremists involved ‘would be arrested shortly.’

Both incidents resulted in loss of lives, but the Gulshan Café attack attracted greater international attention, as 22 people including 6 foreigners, were killed by four gunmen. The attackers were also killed by the police.

India had been consistently requesting Bangladesh in the past crackdown against armed secessionists/extremists who had set up shelters and camps there. During the spells of Awami league rule, Bangladesh had arrested ULFA leaders, Manipur insurgents, frozen their bank accounts and demolished their camps/shelters. Feeling the heat, insurgents from Tripura and other areas had shifted base to the jungles of Myanmar, close to the international border.

Bangladesh had provided details of Islamic extremists and criminals wanted for political murder and other crimes who were known to have escaped to West Bengal. Central law enforcing agencies and the state police have extradited some people, responding to Dhaka’s request for action.

However, the first major signs that the situation had taken a 180 degree turn were available after the Oct 2 2014 bombs blast at Khagragarh, Burdwan, killing three people. The victims were Bangladeshis connected with the banned Islamic extremist organisation, Jamat-e-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JUM or JMB). Over 60 live bombs were seized, along with large quantities of explosives and chemicals. The house at Khagragarh had been turned into a well-guarded illegal laboratory, engaged in making explosives that were smuggled into Bangladesh.

This was unarguable evidence that anti-Bangladesh activities were being planned and executed from Indian territory in West Bengal. The house had been rented out to the miscreants by a local Trinamool Congress leader. The number of arrests made in connection with the Khagragarh blast was around 20. They include several Bangladeshis, some rounded up from other states.

Killing of Pakistani Taliban leader proof Afghanistan not harboring terrorists

Mon Sep 26 2016

The killing of one of the most senior leaders of the Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), is a proof Afghanistan is not harboring terrorists, the Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Omar Zakhilwal said.

“Killing of top TTP commander, Azam Tariq, in an operation by Afg security forces in Paktika is yet another proof that Afg is not in business of harboring terrorists as ‘assets’, regardless of who they intend to target; and does not distinguish between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ of them,” Zakhilwal said in a statement posted online.

The Afghan Ambassador further added “In fact, to date every TTP leader of any importance has been killed by our security or/and coalition forces from Afghanistan. Azam Tariq was currently ranked as the 4th most important TTP leader and Pakistan had put about $200 thousand US dollars on his head.”

Tariq was the former spokesman of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and his death is considered as a big loss for the group.

Senior TTP members have confirmed Tariq’s death terming it a big loss for the splinter Mahsud militant group, headed by Commander Khan Said alias Sajna.

Azam Tariq’s real name was Raees Khan. He belonged to the Mahsud tribe inhabiting South Waziristan where the security forces have been engaged in operations against the militants since 2009.

Sun Sep 25 2016

The deputy provincial police chief of northeastern Takhar province escaped unhurt from a roadside bomb explosion that left at least two people dead.

According to the local security officials, the incident took place in Khwajah Ghar district targeting police chief Haji Agha Dawood.

Bomb case is latest hardship for New Jersey's large Muslim community

26th September 2016

PATERSON, N.J.: At the Islamic Center of Passaic County, which draws about 2,000 people each Friday for communal prayers, the talk is about how this year is different.

After the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, people of other faiths in the surrounding community were generallyable to see the difference between the radical perpetrators and American Muslims, said Omar Awad, president of the center. But he suggested that distinction seems to be blurring in the public mind amid the anti-Muslim rhetoric of the presidential campaign and growing anger over terrorist strikes in Europe and the United States, the latest allegedly plotted by a New Jersey Muslim.

"They're trying to strike fear between neighbors, between the very fabric of society that we spent so much time trying to make sure that we knitted," said Awad, a New Jersey native, sitting in the offices of the 27-year-old Paterson mosque.

Like Muslims around the country, New Jersey's have been slogging through a particularly painful year.

On the campaign trail, the Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, falsely claimed that Muslims in Jersey City celebrated when the World Trade Center fell, as he sought to promote a proposed national database for Muslims and increased surveillance of mosques.

Gov. Chris Christie, who once sharply dismissed those who questioned the loyalty of a Muslim judicial appointee, has endorsed Trump.

And now New Jersey Muslims are facing the broad scrutiny that follows when someone in their community is suspected of being a militant. Ahmad Khan Rahami, a U.S. citizen born in Afghanistan, who worked at his family's chicken takeout restaurant in Elizabeth, has been charged by federal officials in two states with planting bombs in New York and at a military charity run and a train station in New Jersey. Federal authorities said he praised Muslim extremists and prayed he'd be martyred.

"I don't want the stigma to go out that there's some kind of issue in Elizabeth, that it's a hotbed for people with radical ideas, because it's not," said Hassen Abedellah, an attorney and Elizabeth native, who is president of the Darul Islam mosque in the city.

UK school sacks Muslim teacher for objecting to 9/11 video

September 26, 2016

London, Sep 26:  A UK school has sacked a 24-year-old Muslim teacher after she complained about its showing of a graphic video of the 9/11 terror attack in the US to a class of 11-year-olds. Suriyah Bi lost her job at Birmingham’s Heartlands Academy after just a week and is has now taken legal action against a school. She is pursuing claims for unfair dismissal and religious discrimination. The Oxford graduate said the graphic YouTube video carried a warning that the content was not suitable for under-18s. “It raised questions about what safeguards there are in schools to protect children.

These were children aged 11, of whom many knew little, or nothing, about the 9/11 horror,” Bi said. She said the children were subjected to graphic scenes and some were “shocked and upset”. “The video not only showed the plane crashing into the Twin Towers but also showed people committing suicide by jumping to their deaths from the tower blocks,” Bi said. “Such young children should not been shown things like that because it is well-known that it can play on their minds and even induce them to kill themselves,” she was quoted as saying by ‘Birmingham Mail’.

Bi said she was in the classroom when the video was shown. “It was shown to some 30 children during class. I understand the video was shown without the permission of the authorities,” Bi said. “I quickly objected. Later, I was told to leave the school. There was an investigation into the matter but I was dismissed for making a whistle blowing complaint,” she said. ALSO READ: Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood back in parliament after vote
