The campaign, according to The Disinfo Lab, was
essentially targeting Saudi Arabia and the UAE, particularly Crown Prince
Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, or maintaining a good relation with India.
However, the India relations are a mere ruse. This was
not one off campaign, and the Qatar-Turkey-Pakistan Nexus has been targeting
Saudi Arabia and the UAE for questioning their ‘right’ to be the leader of
Islamic world.
The idea is obvious – by discrediting MBS, the leader
of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, would be crowned as the rightful leader of the
Ummah (Global Muslim community).
India was not the only country targeted for this
economic boycott. The campaign also targeted France, asking to boycott French
products.
By creating the subaltern culture of boycott through
social media, they would also create a potent weapon. And once the
Qatar-Turkey-Pakistan Nexus takes centre stage in the Islamic world, this would
create an exclusionary economy of gigantic proportions.
The economic power the nexus built will not only
affect the Muslim world but would dictate terms all over the world – in the
name of accommodating this huge market.
The petro-dollars of Qatar (gas-dollars to be
precise), may not last forever to sustain the radical Islamists of Muslim
Brotherhood. They would need new economic logic to sustain their radical Ideas.
This could be one.
In the past few days, some social media users in the
Arabic world (essentially Egypt & Iraq), along with Turkish and Pakistani
users were engaged in running coordinated campaign, with the hashtags #مقاطعة_المنتجات_الهندية (#BoycottIndianProducts)
and الهند_تقتل_المسلمين
(#IndiaIsKillingMuslims).
They called for a boycott Indian products as a means
to teach India a lesson. The call for ban has been brought about, citing
atrocities committed against Muslims in India.
While on the face of it, the #Boycott_Indian_Products
felt like it was a reaction to the most unfortunate and condemnable incident in
northeast India, it became apparent that the trigger would not have mattered.
Given the overwhelming amount of fake news used in the
campaign, it is obvious that the campaigners were waiting for an excuse – any
excuse. The one incident was pushed with an overdose of fake news – recycling
all old and unrelated media.
These campaigns (#BoycottIndianProducts) were launched
earlier in Jan 2018; Feb 2019; and Sept 2020. However, they never got much
success.
From being a ‘fresh alternate voice’ to the Western
‘global media’ – to falling outright into the categories of propaganda outlets
– AJ’s journey has been rather swift, taking on hardcore Muslim Brotherhood
positions since the so-called Arab Spring in 2011.
Not only that most basic reporting standards were
missing, one of the sister news media of AJ went on to recycle the story
through their Twitter every six hour.
All the major portals of Al Jazeera promoted the
campaign by tweeting from its various handles i.e., Al Jazeera Global, Arabic,
Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt etc.
AJ’s perspective towards India has been less than
transparent, to say the least. It has had a history of sharing fake news, particularly
targeting India.
The anti-India slant of AJ was also visible, where it
did not show the J&K as part of India, which is followed by all media
houses publishing in India. This is not unique to India, as most countries
desire that any publication in their territory should depict their official
claims.
What is even more shocking was that AJ did not show
Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands as part of India, the territories that are not
even in dispute.
As noted above, several of its journalist have been
found to be members of Muslim Brotherhood, with some having been on terror
watchlists.
While it is not common for any major media house to
run paid advertisements of particular news articles, some media houses still do.
But TRT’s history of paid promotions tell their own story.
Incidentally, TRT’s fake news are not only limited in
targeting India, but to other countries who may not be in the good books of
Turkish government and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said that only
their recognition is less impactful and the US must recognize the Taliban
sooner or later.
Imran Khan in his interview with AP said that the US
should unfreeze billions of dollars of the people of Afghanistan to avert the
looming humanitarian crisis in the country.
He said if the United States does not unfreeze the
reserves, Afghanistan will collapse and goes into a chaotic situation, the
people of Afghanistan will be the losers.
The Pakistani Premier cited UNHCR saying that 95% of
people are estimated to be under the poverty line by next year in Afghanistan
so the US must come up with a solution for the people of Afghanistan.
He suggested a joint policy by the neighboring
countries towards Afghanistan as he believes that only Pakistan recognition
will not make much difference.
Pakistan was one of the first countries that
recognized the Taliban in the first place in the late 90s but seems to be
cautious this time and is awaiting the world.

France Is About To Close Six Mosques And Dissolve Several

France has announced that it is about to close six
mosques and dissolve several associations suspected of spreading and promoting
radical Islam. According to RTL television, French Interior Minister Gérald
Darmanin made the announcement on Wednesday.
Darmanin told Le Figaro that since November 2020,
authorities had identified one-third of 89 religious sites or entities as being
“suspected of spreading extremism.”
Authorities will also demand the dissolution of the
Islamist publishing house Nawa, which, according to Darmanin, incites the
extermination of Jews and legitimizes the stoning of homosexuals, as well as
the League for the Defense of Black Africans (LDNA), which advocates for hatred
and discrimination.

Taliban tweet their military victories, I was censored
during presidency: Trump to Twitter

Former US President Donald Trump has asked a federal
judge in Florida on Friday to ask Twitter to restore his account as the Taliban
are allowed to tweet their military victories regularly but he was censored
during his presidency, Reuters reported.
Donald Trump’s Twitter account which had 88 million
followers was removed by the company in January citing a risk of incitement of violence.
Twitter had reasoned that Trump’s Tweets had violated
the Platform’s policy and were highly likely to encourage people to replicate
what happened in the Capitol riots.
The former US president has said in his request to the
district court of Florida that the company (Twitter) was coerced by the members
of the US Congress to suspend his account.

Karnataka: Sri Ram Sene Men Allegedly Decapitate
Muslim Man for Loving Hindu Woman

Mumbai: Exactly a year ago, when Najeema Shaikh first
discovered her 24-year-old son Arbaz Mulla was in love with a woman (name
withheld) belonging to the Hindu community, she knew her son would be killed.
In a desperate attempt to save him from trouble, she moved multiple houses and
tried every trick in the book to keep the couple apart. “But they were simply
inseparable,” she says.
On September 28, Arbaz’s decapitated body was found
lying over 30 km away from Belagavi district, on the railway tracks between
Desur and Khanapur railway stations.
Men belonging to the Sri Ram Sene, a notoriously
violent right-wing outfit in Karnataka, and the woman’s family have been
accused of abducting Arbaz, killing him, dismembering his body, and eventually
throwing his body on the railway tracks to make it appear like a suicide.
According to the police, the evidence found close to the body and several
incidents leading to Arbaz’s death clearly indicate that it was a premeditated
murder, after which attempts were made to dispose of the body.
While Najeema has clearly named three persons – Sri
Ram Sene men Pundalik Maharaj and Birje and the woman’s father Kumbhar – in her
FIR and has narrated the events leading to her son’s death, the police are yet
to make any arrests. The FIR doesn’t mention the first names of Birje and
Kumbhar. Sources in the Belagavi railway police claim that so far 33 persons,
including the woman’s family members and Sri Ram Sene members, have been
“detained for questioning”. But formal arrests are yet to be made. While the
investigating officer, Anjayya, refused to talk over the phone, his subordinate
Satyappa Mukkannavar claimed that since the investigation is ongoing, he could
not confirm anything.
Although Arbaz’s family’s testimony and the chain of
events indicate that this could have been a well-planned criminal conspiracy,
the police have not invoked Section 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code. Instead,
the FIR only mentions Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC meant for murder,
destruction of evidence and common intention.
Arbaz until late last year lived with his mother at
Khanapur, a small town in the outskirts of the Belagavi district. He ran a
successful resale car business and was a responsible son, Najeema says. She
teaches at a local Urdu medium school; her husband – a tailor – died a few
years ago.
Arbaz and the woman knew each other for a long time.
“She lived just next door. They became friends and in no time, they fell in
love.” As a Muslim living in a “Hindu-dominated locality”, Najeema says, she
sensed this won’t end well. “I forced Arbaz to move out of that place,” she
told The Wire over a phone call.
Najeema says Arbaz was initially upset but eventually
came around. Before finally moving to Belgaum, the mother and son duo had
already rented three different houses. “And each time, the two (her son and the
woman he was in love with) would find a way to stay in touch.”

No One Can Doubt Patriotism Of Muslims In Lakshadweep:

Kavaratti: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on
Saturday said no one in the world can dare to question or doubt the patriotism
of the Muslim populace in Lakshadweep or even the other inhabitants of the
islands as they have thwarted attempts of anti-India forces to brew trouble or
instigate the people there against the country.
"No one on Earth can dare to doubt the patriotism
of the Muslim people in Lakshadweep. No one can put a question mark on the
patriotism of the people of Lakshadweep," Mr Singh said during his speech
on the occasion of the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Singh, during the event, also spoke on the issue of
climate change and how global warming and resulting rise in ocean levels pose a
threat to the existence of Lakshadweep.
He said that as part of the government's
"positive attitude" towards reduction of carbon emissions, the Prime
Minister has decided to ban manufacture, sale and usage of single use plastics
and related products from July 1 next year.
On the issue of anti-India forces attempting to foment
trouble in the island, Mr Singh said that due to the strategic location and
importance of the island archipelago, such attempts have been made in the past
and even now, but efforts of such entities were unsuccessful because of the
islanders.
He further said that there were attempts to promote
extremism, radicalism and terrorism in Lakshadweep, but all these efforts failed
and for that he congratulated the people of the island union territory.
He also said that the BJP government at the Centre has
taken a strict stance against terrorism, which was evident from its
"cross-border" actions against terrorists.

Kerala ‘narco jihad’ Bishop’s latest: Need to ask who

The Kerala Bishop who made the infamous “narcotic
jihad” claim has now said that secularism could lead the state down a communal
path. Writing in a church mouthpiece on Gandhi Jayanti, Joseph Kallarangatt
said questions are emerging over “who benefits” from secularism.
The Palai Bishop had claimed in a sermon last month
that besides “love jihad”, a “narcotic jihad” was being deployed to get
non-Muslims addicted to drugs.

Why evictions in Assam under Himanta Sarma have left
Bengali Muslims more fearful than ever before

Manikajan Bibi is scared of losing her home. It is one
windowless room built with tin sheets held together by wooden beams. In nervous
anticipation, she has bundled this season’s harvest of rice into two sacks, her
sarees in a fraying mud brown rexine bag. A rusty trunk holds everything else –
mostly a bunch of yellowing documents to make sure she can prove, if asked,
that she is indeed Manikajan Bibi, daughter of Achumuddin Ahmed, an Indian
citizen.
Bibi is a resident of Niz Salmara, a village on a
char, as the shifting sandbars in the middle of the Brahmaputra river are
called in Assam. Niz Salmara is in the Sipajhar area of Darrang district.
Further down the same char lies Dholpur, a cluster of villages cleared last
week to make space for an organic agriculture project.
Residents of Niz Salmara have not yet received an
eviction notice but they fear they could be next in line. “From the words and
actions of the government, it seems they won’t let us Miya Muslims stay here,”
said Bibi. “So if they come for us, we have to make sure that we can at least
salvage our possessions before they bulldoze our homes.”
Almost all of the 1,200-odd families whose homes were
demolished last week were Muslims of Bengali origin, also known as Miya
Muslims.
Evictions have become commonplace in Assam, and now
residents of Niz Salmara fear that even the death of two people is unlikely to
make the government pause. After all, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has
been unapologetic, insisting that the evictions would go on despite allegations
of police excess.
Moments before violence broke out in Sipajhar on
September 23, Darrang police chief Sushanta Biswa Sarma was caught on camera
issuing an ominous warning to protesting residents. The evictions would
continue, said the police officer who is also the brother of the chief
minister, “even if the world were to turn upside-down”.
“There was a BJP government before this too that also
did evictions,” said Dildar Hussain, a 22-year-old commerce graduate from the
village. “But [former Assam chief minister Sarbananda] Sonowal was not this
cruel.”
In Assam, land is always scarce, devoured every year
by the Brahmaputra and its many temperamental tributaries. Yet, it is not just
the ravages of the river that make land so contested in the state.
Assamese ethnic nationalists also believe land is
under siege from “illegal immigrants” from Bangladesh, a label used for
Bengali-speaking communities living in the state. The original “bahiragata”, or
outsider, from Bangladesh was believed to be both Hindu and Muslim. But the
strongest hostilities seem to have been directed towards Muslims of Bengali
origin. This community of skilled cultivators, the Assamese nationalists worry,
is out to grab “indigenous” lands to expand their thriving farms.
In 2016, the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power
riding on these anti-immigrant sentiments. Soon afterwards, it initiated a
series of eviction drives, including in Sipajhar. Most evictions have taken
place in districts where Muslims of Bengali origin are in a majority. Even
though other districts had a higher number of “encroachers”, going by
government numbers, Darrang has seen the most evictions. The government claims
that, between May 2016 and July 2021, it has evicted 4,700 families. Of these,
2016 lived in Darrang district. None of these 2016 families has been provided
compensation so far, government records show.
Yet, Bengali-origin Muslims say that they have never
felt as targeted as in the last four months, under the new BJP government
headed by Sarma.
“The difference is that now the evictions are just
meant to dehumanise us,” said Sirajul Hoque, whose house in Dholpur was
demolished last week. “Evictions under the new chief minister are no longer
just evictions; they have become planned communal acts.”
While evictions in Assam have long had a communal
slant, critics say that Sarma’s government has even dropped the pretence of
projecting them as a routine bureaucratic exercise. “[Evictions] have always
happened but what is new is the chief minister making a song and dance about
it,” said Abdul Kalam Azad, an activist and researcher from Lower Assam’s
Barpeta district. “That has really disturbed Miya people mentally.”
Soon after the violent evictions at Sipajhar, Chief
Minister Sarma addressed the media and spoke of older clashes that had left
Assamese-speaking people dead. He invoked memories of the Assam Agitation, the
six-year-long movement in the 1980s where Assamese nationalists had demanded
the expulsion of “outsiders” from the state. “People were killed here in 1983,”
he said. “People have been killed here recently too, we can’t leave Assam to
intruders like that...they have encroached on temples too.”
Madhab Rajbongshi, a former Congress parliamentarian
from the Mangaldoi constituency and also a former Janata Dal legislator from
Sipajhar, insisted that the recent spate of evictions were not about land at
all. “You are raking up memories of the Assam Agitation, speaking of people being
killed in the past, what are you trying to achieve?” said Rajbongshi.
Akhil Gogoi, a land rights activist-turned-politician
who now represents the Sivasagar assembly constituency, agreed with Rajbongshi.
“The idea is to polarise before the upcoming bye-elections,” he alleged.
Bye-elections for five Assembly seats in the state are scheduled in October.
For the BJP government, eviction is the most potent tool because it can tap
into Assamese anxieties, though it does not care about that at all.”
The impression that the government is targeting a
particular community, not just clearing land that it claims is illegally
occupied, was strengthened by last week’s evictions in Sipajhar. Farms and
homes were burnt down, mosques were demolished to make way for an agricultural
project that is to employ youths belonging to communities considered indigenous
to Assam.
Plans for the project were announced in the state
budget presented earlier this year. An amount of Rs 9.60 core was earmarked for
it. Padma Hazarika, a legislator with a track-record of anti-immigrant
politics, was elevated to a cabinet rank position so that he could lead the
project.
“If this was indeed a case of utilising the land
better, we should have also been included as part of the project,” reasoned
Hoque. “After all, we may be behind in many other things, but we definitely
know a thing or two about cultivation.”
Now, residents of Sanuwa air grievances against the
government. Their farm lands too, were taken by the government for the
agricultural project, even if no one was evicted from their home. “But not one
boy or girl from our village has been involved in the project,” said Anwara
Begum, a community health worker from Sanuwa. “When our boys went to ask [the
authorities], they were not even entertained.”
Across the village, residents echoed similar
sentiments. “We wanted that land [on the Sipajhar char] cleared so that our
animals could graze there,” said a village elder who asked not to be named
because he held a government position. “But they are now setting up an
agriculture project there. Not only have our lands been taken away, our youths
are not even being allowed to be part of it.”
He continued, “It is now clear to us that the
government is targeting Muslims with this eviction drive – it does not matter
whether you are Miya or khilonjia. By demanding their eviction, we have dug our
own grave. Only the government will benefit from what happened.”

Karnataka: Muslim Man Found Beheaded on Train Tracks,

New Delhi: A Muslim man was found beheaded and
mutilated on railway tracks in Karnataka’s Belgavi district on Tuesday,
September 28, with local police suspecting a right wing group of being guilty
of the murder, the Indian Express reported.
The victim has been identified as Arbaz Mullah, who
had reportedly been in a relationship with a woman of a different faith when he
was killed. His body was allegedly discovered in pieces strewn across a railway
track in the Khanapur taluk, the Times of India reported.
According to the victim’s mother, he had been
threatened by members of a right wing group prior to the incident as well. A
local member of the organisation had allegedly even tried to extort money out
of him in exchange for leaving him alone.

Key cabinet members to mull over accountability law
changes

ISLAMABAD: Senior members of the federal cabinet are
expected to hammer out a set of proposals on Tuesday to shape them into a
final draft bill for amending the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO)
1999, which include exploring avenues for removal of National Accountability
Bureau (NAB) chairman during his four-year non-extendable term.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told Dawn that
Tuesday’s meeting will be presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan. It is
expected to be attended by Law Minister Barrister Dr Farogh Naseem, Attorney
General for Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan, the information minister,
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Planning and Development
Asad Umar, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Education Minister Shafqat
Mehmood.
The four-year tenure of the incumbent chairman of NAB
Javed Iqbal is set to end in the second week of the current month. He had taken
over the charge of his office on Oct 10, 2017. Mr Iqbal was appointed NAB
chairman after the then PML-N government led by former prime minister Shahid
Khaqan Abbasi and the then leader of the opposition Syed Khurshid Shah
reached a consensus.
Two set of proposals for amending the NAO are being
prepared, one by the law ministry and the other by the AGP office, on which the
coming meeting will deliberate upon and come up with final approval.
The prime minister has assigned the task to Speaker
National Assembly Asad Qaiser to engage the opposition leaders and invite them
to also discuss proposed amendments to the NAB ordinance in a yet-to-be-formed
electoral reforms committee of the National Assembly.
“But the major roadblock that comes in the way of any
serious dialogue with the opposition is their concern over corruption
references against their leaders than the issues confronting the country,” said
Fawad Chaudhry.
An informed source told Dawn that Tuesday’s huddle
will also dwell on exploring how to remove NAB chairman in case he becomes
incapable of properly performing his duties due to physical or mental
incapacity or being guilty of misconduct. Currently the NAO is silent on the
mechanism on removal of NAB chairman.
On Friday, Prime Minister Imran Khan during a similar
meeting on the appointment of a new chairman of NAB or granting extension to
the tenure of the incumbent chairman had felt that ignoring Leader of
Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in the entire process would
render the exercise controversial, according to sources.
That was the reason why Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
(PML-N) Senator Azam Tarar was informally approached in this regard. However,
when contacted, Senator Tarar told Dawn that no proposal had yet been shared
with the party nor any informal meeting had been arranged.
However, insiders in government circles believe that
ensuring transparency in the process of appointment of NAB chairman, whether in
written form or by holding formal consultation with Shehbaz Sharif is
necessary.
Under Section 6(b) of the NAO, the president appoints
NAB chairman in consultation with the leader of the house and the leader of
opposition in the National Assembly for a non-extendable period of four years.
Though the idea is being resisted by certain
government functionaries on the ground that consultation with the opposition
leader is not necessary when he himself is facing a number of corruption
references filed by NAB, saner elements argue that though Shehbaz Sharif has
been accused of corruption, he has not been convicted. Besides leaving the
opposition leader aside would create a negative impression especially when the
law requires so.

Over 60m people now recipient of one dose: minister

ISLAMABAD: While Covid-19 positivity ratio, which was
in double figures a couple of months ago, has declined to 3.21 per cent,
Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on
Saturday announced that the number of people who had received at least one dose
of a vaccine had surpassed the figure of 60 million.
On the other hand, the National Command and Operation
Centre (NCOC) has included pilgrims returning from Iraq in the most risky group
as they can become a factor in the spread of the virus.
Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, said in a tweet
that while 60m people had received at least one shot, the number of fully
vaccinated citizens would reach 30m in a day.
He hoped that the target of vaccinating 70m people
would be achieved by the end of December, advising citizens to go for
inoculation at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the NCOC has issued standard operating
procedures (SOPs) for pilgrims coming from Iraq, asking them to stay in
quarantine for one day. However Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen Pakistan refused to
accept the decision and demanded that those who test negative should not be
forced to stay in quarantine.
Iraq has been placed in Category C, which includes the
regions with the most Covid-19 cases. People cannot visit such countries
without getting special permission and following the necessary health
guidelines. However, because of Arbaeen (Chehlum) of Imam Husain, special
permission was granted to people to travel to Iraq.
An official of the Ministry of National Health
Services (NHS), requesting anonymity, said in October last year that Pakistan
had introduced three categories to deal with Covid-19.

Islamic State figure charged with supporting terrorist
group

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A leading Islamic State media
figure and foreign fighter has been charged in U.S. federal court in Virginia
with conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization
resulting in death, federal officials said Saturday.
Mohammed Khalifa, a Saudi-born Canadian citizen who
was a leading figure in the Islamic State of Iraq, was captured overseas by the
Syrian Democratic Forces in January 2019, federal officials said. He was
recently transferred into FBI custody, at which point he was first brought to
the Eastern District of Virginia.
"As alleged, Mohammed Khalifa not only fought for
ISIS on the battlefield in Syria, but he was also the voice behind the
violence," said Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District
of Virginia. "Through his alleged leading role in translating, narrating,
and advancing ISIS´s online propaganda, Khalifa promoted the terrorist group,
furthered its worldwide recruitment efforts, and expanded the reach of videos
that glorified the horrific murders and indiscriminate cruelty of ISIS."
Khalifa, 38, served in prominent roles within the
Islamic State starting in 2013 and continuing until his capture by the SDF in
January 2019 following a firefight between Islamic State fighters and the SDF,
officials said.
In addition to allegedly serving as an Islamic State
fighter, Khalifa allegedly served as a lead translator in the group's
propaganda production and the English-speaking narrator on multiple violent
recruitment videos.

documented the death of 69 persons since the beginning of 2021 by bombings,
shooting or kidnapping and then getting rid of much of the bodies in remote

Man jailed for sharing Islamic State propaganda
following Heathrow arrest

A man who travelled to Syria to join the so-called
Islamic State has been jailed after admitting to sharing the group’s propaganda
videos.
Stefan Aristidou, 27, from Enfield in north London,
was arrested at Heathrow Airport in February this year after being deported
from Turkey.
Aristidou, who is of Greek Cypriot background, shared
videos on Skype with another user based in Canada who went by the name of
Mullins 1169.
Some of the videos shared by Aristidou, who was 21 at
the time and a keen gamer, depicted mass executions, sniper assassinations and
beheadings.
Aristidou converted to Islam in late 2013 and became
increasingly drawn to IS over the course of 2014 as it seized large swathes of
Syria.

Aristidou and his wife are believed to have spent two
years in Syria, the Old Bailey heard, although it is unclear what they were
doing while they were there.
His wife and their child were deported to the UK, but
Aristidou was charged and convicted of being a member of IS in October 2018 and
jailed for six years and three months by a Turkish court.
He was deported to the UK in February this year having
served just less than three years of his sentence as part of the country’s
efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 in prisons, the court heard.
Aristidou was not charged with being a member of IS by
the UK authorities due to lack of evidence of his activities while in Syria.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man wanted
following reports of several indecent exposures and sexual assaults in East
London.
Scotland Yard officers said it had been made aware of
a man committing a number of offences in the Tower Hamlets area between August
30 and September 29.
Metropolitan Police officers said they were aware of
seven offences in total, and on each occasion the suspect has cycled up behind
a woman before either exposing himself or carrying out a sexual assault.

Canada marks Islamic History Month to shine light on
community's achievements

Canada has decided to mark October as Islamic History
Month as per a parliamentary decision passed in 2007, in light of increased
hate crime targeting the community.
In a statement released by the Canada Heritage
department – the country’s official culture ministry – the month has been
designated for people to learn about the community’s history in Canada, and
"the many achievements of Muslim Canadians in the arts, sports, academics,
sciences and literature".
The month is also to allow Canadians to acknowledge
ongoing challenges and barriers faced by Canada’s more than one million
Muslims, who make up about 3.2 percent of the population according to 2011
statistics. That number has most likely grown in a decade.

What Ken Burns’ Muhammad Ali Doc Misses About the
Nation of Islam

Watching Ken Burns’ new four-part Muhammad Ali
documentary stirred my recollections on what the three-time heavyweight
champion and the Nation of Islam meant to youths growing up in East Elmhurst, a
residential enclave for “Black Muslims” in Queens.
During the 1960s and 1970s, East Elmhurst was home to
an assortment of community leaders grappling with the dilemma of racial
injustice. Among these were civil rights proponents like Bill Booth, a former
judge and chairman of the New York City Human Rights Commission, and NOI
figures like Malcolm X, Betty Shabazz and Louis Farrakhan.
The Burns film, Muhammad Ali, did a good job of
chronicling the usual markers of Ali’s life story but fell short in depicting
why the NOI would appeal to ordinary Black youths at the time; instead, it
spotlighted the group’s “separatist” identity, the “exotic” faith and uniforms,
the internal rivalries, and the intemperate statements of organization
speakers.
I imagine this is to be expected for a mainstream
cultural creation that relies on footage from the national press. It’s an
approach that is prone to recycle old vantage points like the 1959 CBS
documentary on Malcolm X and other “Black supremacists,” The Hate That Hate
Produced. To us, though, the Muslims were little more than disaffected Baptists
seeking alternative outlets.
The NOI was founded in Detroit in 1930 on the
principles of freedom, justice, and equality for people of African descent. By
the 1960s, when I became aware of the organization, it had grown to an
estimated 70,000 members in the major cities thanks in part to the appeal of
charismatic figures like Malcolm X, the national spokesman, and Muhammad Ali.
What the documentary glosses over are the symbols of
cultural pride and cooperative ventures that I recall as noteworthy to my
peers. For example, the NOI members took steps to let us know that our lives
mattered without the slogans and protest marches. It was common to see older
men reach out to boys in the parks and on front steps to discuss history,
current affairs, and personal goals. What did we want out of life? How do we
conduct ourselves as young men? How will we contribute to the community and so
forth?
They discussed respect for women and family and
organized street games like sprints and stick ball. They formed neighborhood
watch groups–and one time even retrieved a bicycle that had been stolen by a
white passerby. Some narrated the lost history of African civilizations like
ancient Sumer and Kush and the medieval empires of Ghana and the Moors. These
were things we never heard about from teachers in primary school.
Many of the NOI elders were of modest education. They
sometimes got facts wrong or inflated historic achievements–but they tried
within limitations to instill confidence in the next generation. Some of us
made fun of them for wearing bowties, spouting mumbo-jumbo about the origins of
white people, or carrying themselves with the strained dignity of men shunted
aside by society. Others of us, though, quietly appreciated the attention of
ordinary role models with all their flaws.

addressed the crowd at the International Amphitheater in Chicago."
Mostly what they espoused were the teachings of the
man born as Elijah Poole, a Georgia sharecropper who was an early member of the
NOI and became its leader from the 1930s until his death in 1975. He changed
his named to Elijah Muhammad and doled out a version of “mother wit” in
“Message to the Blackman in America.” The Burns film showed Ali holding a copy
of the 1973 work but neglected to explain either the message or its appeal to
the ordinary person.
What attracted us was not the message of Islam as much
as the message of Black pride, self-improvement, and group cooperation. The NOI
promoted survival strategies for marginal populations in the urban centers. It
advocated common sense practices like living within your means, saving as much
as possible, nurturing a supportive family life, spending your money among
yourselves, supporting Black-owned businesses or businesses that hire your
people, and seeking to improve health, education and community.
Such teachings gave us a blueprint to improve our
chances in life. By contrast, the way of the civil rights programs required an
over-reliance on factors outside of our control: protest marches, political
coalitions, passage of laws, or begging white people to pay attention to our
needs. While some of these things were necessary remedies, they relied so much
on the positive responses of white institutions that it could foster a sense of
dependency.
The NOI encouraged us to forge alliances across the
sizable Black communities in the urban centers and across the Pan-African
world. It was a model of communalism that offered a more affirming foundation
than the strategy of unceasing rallies and marches–and the NOI practiced what
it preached. In the 1960s, the organization instituted an economic program of
cooperative development that included the purchase of farms, timberland, home
construction, delivery trucks, and businesses owned by individual members and
the organization.

State, accused of fighting and narrating recruitment videos for the group.
Saudi-born Mohammed Khalifa was described by the US
Department of Justice as a "leading figure" in the terrorist group's
English language media unit.
Prosecutors said the unit produced videos such as the
ones showing the beheadings of Western aid workers and journalists, including
Britons Alan Henning and David Haines.

A Canadian man who narrated two infamous propaganda
videos that the Islamic State group used to recruit Westerners and to encourage
terrorism attacks was secretly whisked to the United States to face federal
prosecution in Virginia.
The man, Mohammed Khalifa, 38, a Canadian who traveled
to Syria in 2013 and later joined the Islamic State group, was charged with
material terrorism support that resulted in death, according to a criminal
complaint made public Saturday. He was captured in early 2019 by a Kurdish-led
militia, the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is backed by the United States.
The militia handed over Khalifa to FBI agents this
week, and he was flown to the United States. Khalifa, who was born in Saudi
Arabia, appears to be the first foreign fighter to be prosecuted in the United
States during the Biden administration. He is scheduled to make an initial
appearance in court early next week.

Human Rights Watch Reports Islamic State Group In
Mozambique Is Using Child Soldiers

The Mozambique Islamic State group Al-Shabab
(unrelated to Somalian group of the same name), has been kidnapping and forcing
children to become soldiers, according to a Human Rights Watch report released
on Wednesday.
Evidence suggests that the armed group has abducted
boys, as young as 12, to be trained in bases in Cabo Delgado and forced to
fight against the Government forces. These actions are a direct contravention
to the United National Optional Protocol, which was ratified in Mozambique in
2004, prohibits “non-state armed groups from recruiting children under the age
of 18.”

Miyetti Allah threatens suit as Lagos, Ondo vow to
defend open grazing law

Lagos and Ondo state governments have said they would
defend the anti-opening grazing law in court should the Miyetti Allah Kautal
Hore Fulani Socio-cultural Association make good its threat to drag states
before the courts.
Some southern states, including Ondo, Oyo, Osun,
Ekiti, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and just recently, Delta and
Ogun states, had signed the anti-open grazing bills into law and vowed to
implement the laws to the letter.
In Ogun, for instance, the herders are given a
six-month period of grace before it becomes illegal for cattle herders to
occupy unapproved public areas and private land with their livestock for
grazing.
The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group, while reacting to
the passage of the law in the southern states, described it as ‘satanic’ and
‘politically motivated,’ adding that it would sue the governors over the law.
The group’s National Secretary, Selah Alhassan, told
Sunday PUNCH that legal paperwork was being done and the governors who had
signed the ‘hateful’ bill would hear from their lawyers.
He said, “I think such laws are not meant to engender
peace in our nation because they are hateful, politically motivated and
satanic. We don’t see anything good in such laws. While they are at it, God
will not allow them to succeed, because these herders are innocent. They are
also victims of insurgencies. I see the government playing politics with all
these things, and the politics is not working for them. It is a process, not a
one-man stream.”
He also called on the Federal Government to wade in
and “call these governors to order (sic) before they destroy the economy
because they want to make laws.”
“We are all Nigerians so we call on the Federal
Government, particularly Mr President and the National Assembly, to wade in and
caution these governors because we cannot destroy an economy because you want
to make laws. If you are doing anti-open grazing laws in Lagos, are there
cattle grazing in Lagos? Those cows you see in Lagos are for sale. States like
Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa and to a larger extent, Ogun, don’t need to have any
anti-open grazing law; what they need to do is regulate their abattoirs and
their cattle markets. But, when you gang up and create laws against an economic
group, there is nothing you will achieve.”
Reacting to Miyetti Allah’s move to challenge the
anti-open grazing law in court, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information
and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, said the state government was ready to defend
the law.
Omotosho, in an interview with one of our
correspondents, said the law was a product of due diligence with the interests
of all relevant stakeholders put into consideration.
He said, “They are free to challenge the law. It is
their right. I don’t know what they have against the law and the basis of their
challenge. But the courts are there to determine such matters.

Libya’s Electoral Commission: Dbaiba & Saif Al
Islam Eligible to Run for President

Chairman of Libya’s High National Electoral Commission
(HNEC) Emad Al-Din Al-Sayeh confirmed that Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba,
and Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Muammar Gaddafi, have the right to run in
the upcoming presidential elections.
He added that HNEC had received the elections law from
the Parliament, “currently, we are still waiting for the Parliament’s
amendments related to the technical observations submitted by HNEC. A committee
has been formed in this regard, and it is now considering drafting the law.”
The HNEC Head pointed out that electoral campaigns are
governed by the election law, but the announcement of candidacy is the right of
any citizen. The Commission has adopted new measures to prevent electoral
fraud, and will begin issuing electoral cards to voters.
“It would be a huge logistical operation, even more
complicated than updating the voter register, system as it is a sensitive and
accurate process, and the entire electoral process depends on it,” Al-Sayeh
explained.

community, have been missing since August 30 – with families searching for them
unsuccessfully.
Some of them, appeared today among 13 suspects
including a woman, paraded by Police and RIB as having been planning to blow up
busy parts of Kigali.
The Chronicles collected names of the 10 missing as;
Mucyo Ismail, Evaldi Noel, Bagire Salim, Mbaraga Hassan, Iratureba Abdulbast,
Gatore Youssouf, Mussa Ali Nizar, Faida Ibrahim, Abdul Rahman and Niyonshuti
Ndoli.
While showing them to media, the Police and RIB
displayed what were said to be explosives which would have been used to blow up
Kigali’s tallest building KCT, the main bus park in Nyabugogo and other high
traffic spots.
Police Spokesman CP John Bosco Kabera said preliminary
investigations had established the suspects were linked to Ugandan group the
Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) which operates from eastern DR Congo.
The group has been fighting the government of Ugandan
president Yoweri Museveni for many years. It has recently joined up with the
global terrorist group ISIS.
Mbaraga Hassan, one of the key suspects, according to
Police, told journalists that the plan had been hatched and prepared by the
Mozambique-based islamist group.

So on Friday, the local Jewish community of Sante Fe,

Journey of Arbaeen caravans from Turkey, Azerbaijan to
Iraq under support, security of al-Nujaba

Since 2016, the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement
has been responsible for organizing thousands of pilgrims from Turkish and
Azerbaijani caravans to Iraq during the time of the Arbaeen al-Husayni
pilgrimage and from the moment they entered and left the country, al-Nujaba
provided full security coverage.
According to the Communication and Media Affairs
Centre of al-Nujaba in Iran, for the sixth consecutive
year, the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement managed and secured caravans of
pilgrims from Turkey and Azerbaijan during the Arbaeen al-Husayni pilgrimage.
In this regard, in addition to facilitating ziyarah (pilgrimage) to the holy
shrines in Iraq, the clerics commissioned their own missionaries to hold
various cultural programs on various topics, such as explaining the tragedy of
Ashura, the role of the Ahl al-Bayt in various fields in their era, and
analyzing the current situation in the Islamic world.
The caravan, consisting of one thousand
Turkish-speaking pilgrims, entered Iraq on Monday, the 13th of Safar [September
20]. They were under the protection of al-Nujaba’s Kirkuk office from the very
beginning and with al-Nujaba providing security and providing welfare services,
the pilgrims travelled to Najaf and from there, they joined the march of
millions of lovers of Aba Abdillah [Imam al-Husayn] to Karbala. The pilgrims
then travelled to al-Kadhimiyyah and Samarra to visit the shrines of the Ahl
al-Bayt there and finally returned to their countries on Thursday, the 23rd of
Safar [September 30].

Over 240 Bahraini Muslim Scholars Blast Israeli FM’s
Visit to Manama, Reject Normalization

“We denounce the presence of the foreign minister of
the Zionist enemy in Bahrain, and renew our rejection of all forms of
normalization with the usurping regime [of Israel], including the opening of an
embassy and a trade office in Manama,” the scholars said in a joint statement
published on Friday, presstv reported.
“We also reiterate our firm support for the Palestinian
nation and every iota of the blessed Palestinian lands, which has been drenched
in the blood of martyrs through years of resistance and steadfastness. The
murderous invaders are now spilling the blood of Palestinians in Al-Quds and
Jenin,” they added.
Yair Lapid arrived at Manama airport on Thursday to
become the highest-ranking Israeli official to visit the Persian Gulf country
since Israel and Bahrain forged formal relations last year.
On Friday, a group of young Palestinian men converged
outside the diplomatic mission and raised national Palestinian flags to condemn
the Al Khalifah regime’s decision to normalize relations with Israel, and
voiced their support for the Palestinian people.
Dozens of people took to the streets in Samaheej
village on the Nnorthern coast of Muharraq Island, waving Palestinian and
Bahraini flags.
Protesters staged similar rallies in the villages of
Abu Saiba and Shakhura, where they carried banners in denunciation of the
visit.
Elsewhere in Sitra Island, which lies 5 kilometers
(3.1 miles) South of the capital Manama, Bahraini regime forces attacked
demonstrators.

Iran asked U.S. to unfreeze $10 billion to show good
will, Iran official says

DUBAI, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Iran's foreign minister said
on Saturday that U.S. officials tried to discuss restarting nuclear talks last
month, but he insisted Washington must first release $10 billion of Tehran's
frozen funds as a sign of good will.
Iran has rejected direct talks with the United States,
and indirect talks on reviving a 2015 nuclear accord aimed at keeping Iran from
being able to develop a nuclear weapon stopped in June.
The United States used intermediaries at the United
Nations last month to attempt to make contact, Foreign Minister Hossein
Amirabdollahian told state television.
Iran has been unable to obtain tens of billions of
dollars of its assets in foreign banks, mainly from exports of oil and gas, due
to U.S. sanctions on its banking and energy sectors.

RAF intelligence base linked to US drone strike on

Campaigners have called on ministers to explain
whether the secretive Menwith Hill intelligence base in Yorkshire is involved
in recent drone strike assassinations, after the publication of a report that
raises questions about UK involvement in US attacks.
The research concludes it “was probable” that Iranian
general Qassem Suleimani was killed in January last year using information
obtained from the British site, essentially an outpost of the US National
Security Agency (NSA).
It also raises questions about whether British
personnel on the site are involved in assisting deadly US drone strikes – in
particular in Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia, all conflict zones where the UK is
not formally at war.
Barnaby Pace, an investigative journalist, complains
in the report that the US and UK forces at Menwith Hill “operate beyond public
scrutiny and accountability” – and that, unless there were change, “Orwellian
surveillance systems and extrajudicial executions exposed in recent years will
likely continue”.
The report, presented at a special meeting of the
Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign, demands “any US military activity or US
security agency activity carried out at Menwith Hill be carried out in such a
way as to make those responsible fully accountable to the UK”.
Menwith Hill is eight miles west of Harrogate on the
fringes of the Yorkshire Dales, known for its distinctive large white golf ball
domes housing radar equipment. Although nominally an RAF base, it is in fact
the largest known overseas site of the NSA, with 600 US personnel and 500
British civilians on site.
Leaked documents from the Snowden files have shown
that Menwith Hill is part of an eavesdropping network, able to collect data
from hundreds of millions of emails and phone calls daily and of pinpointing
phones on the ground.
Information obtained can be used in “capture-kill”
operations, including the tracking of Taliban targets in Afghanistan in 2011 –
leading to “approximately 30 enemy killed” – and again in 2012, according to
previously published analysis of the Snowden files summarised by Pace.
Another programme, Ghostwolf, sought to identify
terrorists in Yemen. Evidence obtained was used to “capture or eliminate”
targets – during the Trump administration US drone strikes in the country
killed at least 86 civilians, including 28 children.
“Intelligence programmes at Menwith Hill have
reportedly played a key role in operations to ‘eliminate’ people in Yemen, as
part of a deadly drone bombing campaign that has resulted in dozens of civilian
deaths in a country that neither the UK nor US has declared war with,” Pace
added.

Taliban kills and arrests ISIS affiliates in Parwan
province

Officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan claim
that they have conducted a raid on a safe haven of ISIS in Charikar city of
northern Parwan province killing and arresting a number of the group’s fighters
on Friday, October 1.
A spokesperson of the Taliban Bilal Karimi confirmed
the raid and said that the fighters were arrested after their friends targeted
the Taliban members in the province.

Former Afghan journalist, journalism lecturer killed
in eastern Nangarhar province

Unknown gunmen killed four people in Police District
three of Jalalabad City of eastern Nangarhar province among them a well-known
journalist and journalism lecturer, Sayed Maroof Sadat.
The incident happened on Saturday, October 2 and local
residents say that the two others killed were the Taliban fighters.
Eyewitnesses say that Sadat’s son has also been
critically wounded in the incidents and claim that ISIS fighters were
responsible for the shooting but provincial officials have not commented on the
issue yet.

Taliban begins relocating thousands of IDPs from Kabul

Officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan say
that they have begun the relocation process of thousands of Internally
Displaced People from Kabul to their respective provinces on Saturday, October
2.
Over two thousand families were displaced mainly from
the Northern provinces of Afghanistan after conflicts intensified between the
Taliban and the security forces of the previous Afghan government.
They were settled in the parks of Kabul along with
their children for more than two months.

Explosion at Ctg court: JMB’s ‘Boma Mizan’ gets death,
another life term

A Chattogram court today sentenced Mizan alias
"Boma Mizan", a top explosives expert and leader of Jama'atul Mujahideen
Bangladesh (JMB), to death and another militant to life term imprisonment in a
case filed over the killing of two people, including a police constable, in a
bomb attack on Chittagong court premise on November 29, 2005.
Ctg JMB's divisional commander Jabed Iqbal, who was
given life term, was also fined Tk two lakh, in default of which he will have
to serve two more years in jail.
The court also relieved JMB chief Abdur Rahman, Bangla
Bhai and Ataur Rahman Sani from the charges as they were executed in another
case.

Shia militia excluded from Iraq voting for security
forces

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission on
Saturday announced the exclusion of the Hashd al-Shaabi militia, or Popular
Mobilization Forces, from the list of security forces who will vote in next
week’s parliamentary elections.
"The commission formally addressed the Popular
Mobilization Authority to submit the names of their members to be included in
the register for the security forces eligible to vote," spokesman Jumana
Al-Ghalai said in statements cited by the Iraqi News Agency.
While Hashd al-Shaabi is legally affiliated with the
Iraqi army which receives orders from the prime minister, observers believe
that the group’s influence has increased on a large scale over time, and its
strength has eclipsed that of other state institutions. Moreover, its leaders
are not subject to government orders. Rather, they are closely aligned with
Iran, and have been accused of targeting US troops and bases in Iraq.

Saudi Arabia launches G20 water platform

JEDDAH: The Group of Twenty has announced the launch
of its G20 Water Platform under Saudi Arabia’s supervision to collect
countries’ best practices and experiences related to sustainable and resilient
water management.
“I am very pleased today to share with you the G20
Water Platform as an effective tool for sharing G20 best practices in water
management with the rest of the world,” said Saudi Minister of Environment,
Water and Agriculture Abdul Rahman Al-Fadli.
During the Saudi G20 presidency, the water team
conducted the first G20 Dialogue on Water meeting and prepared a water policy
paper titled “Fostering Sustainable and Resilient Water Management Globally.”
The platform comes as a result of the Kingdom’s G20
presidency, as G20 countries agreed to hold an annual dialogue on water and
share results in a digital platform hosted by Saudi Arabia for the first five
years. The platform constitutes the primary tool for sharing the outcome of the
water dialogue between the G20 countries and the world at large.
“We acknowledge that affordable, reliable and safe
water, sanitation and hygiene services are essential for human life and that
access to clean water is critical to overcome the pandemic,” the G20 leaders’
declaration said in 2020.
The declaration welcomed the G20 Dialogue on Water to
share best practices and research and promote innovation and new technologies.
“The novel coronavirus pandemic has shed light on many global challenges,
including the need to ensure access to clean water and safe sanitation
services,” said Al-Fadli.

Saudi Salam project to launch 4th program for youth

RIYADH: The Salam Project for Cultural Communication
on Sunday will launch the fourth session of the Young Leaders Program, with the
participation of 60 young men and women.
The program aims to develop participants’ cognitive
capacities and skills and empower them to have effective and influential
cultural communication with other cultures, participate in international forums
and promote a positive image of the Kingdom.
Executive director of the project, Fahd bin Sultan
Al-Sultan, said that the 60 participants would be trained for three months
through an integrated system of training meetings and tools to develop their
knowledge and skills for effective cultural communication.
The program includes training workshops and panel
discussions aiming to empower participants to acquire scientific knowledge on
the most prominent issues and challenges facing the Kingdom.

PM says Malaysians could get to travel abroad from
December

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Malaysians would be allowed to
travel abroad for leisure by December and possibly sooner depending on the country’s
Covid-19 vaccination rate, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In an interview with Mingguan Malaysia published
today, Ismail said international travel was among benefits that would be rolled
out once the adult vaccination rate passes 90 per cent.
“We will open up state borders to allow people to
cross. Travel to other countries will also be allowed after we reach 90 per
cent vaccination rate,’’ he was quoted as saying.
“We will no longer need to register for the
MyTravelPass to leave the country but the requirements for quarantine remain
the same,’’ he said.

One month deferment of no-alcohol sale rule not a
boon, business owners tell DBKL

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL)
latest announcement that the ban on sale of alcohol by grocery and convenience
stores as well as Chinese medicine halls will now start on October 31 instead
of October 1 was met with indifference by the affected store owners.
They said the deferment is not going to help their
earnings, given the already gloomy business climate due to the Covid-19
pandemic. Policy flip-flops hurt more, they added.
In November last year, Chinese medicine hall and
sundry shop proprietors anticipated dark days ahead over the liquor sales
restriction that would see their dwindling revenue further diminish.
“No point. Just one month. Next month you cannot sell,
this month you can sell liquor. No point,” said Low Pak Koon, 70 who runs a
traditional Chinese medicine hall in Petaling Street, adding that the latest
move by DBKL justified his decision to not sell alcohol.
He explained that some branded liquor brands which many
traditional Chinese medicine halls usually sell are not as in demand as they
used to be, compared to wine and beer which are more saleable.
Ng Chee Yat, 65, who also runs a similar business on
the same road, shared Low’s sentiments, though he does not drink nor sell
alcohol.
He said that the number of Chinese medicine halls
selling liquor and alcohol, however, are not as many now, adding that policies
like the recent one need to be carefully thought out.
“This one is actually very disturbing for any business.
There needs to be a very steady policy and don’t just change. It’s very, very
disturbing,” Ng said, adding that though the policy does not disrupt his
operations, the flip-flop nature when it comes to devising important policies
affecting traders like him is disruptive.
Another Chinese medicine hall worker, who preferred
not to be named, told Malay Mail that his rice wine wholesaler had also stopped
selling to the store.
“Because of the government and well rightfully so,
because later if they come to inspect and it’s here, there will be a penalty.
May have to go to court since this item cannot be sold,” he added.
This comes even as the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) warned that restricting liquor sales at
convenience stores will hurt small businesses still reeling from the pandemic
restrictions.
At present, businesses that are allowed to sell
alcohol include restaurants, pubs, bars, hotels, commercial complexes,
warehouses, supermarkets, hypermarkets. These places are also allowed to hold
promotional activities that serve liquor.
DBKL had previously, in June last year, announced a
freeze on all new applications for licences to sell alcohol with immediate
effect.
Even before the ban was announced, Cheung said the
authorities had insisted that he separated alcoholic beverages from other
drinks in his Sentul shop.
“What is the logic behind this regulation? What
purpose does it serve? We don’t sell alcoholic beverages to Muslims, we are
very strict about that,” said Cheung.

Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases drop to 9,066, first
time under 10,000 in nearly three months

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — The country’s new Covid-19 cases
dipped below the 10,000 mark today with 9,066 new infections reported.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham
Abdullah said on Twitter that Sarawak topped the list again with 1,418 new infections,
followed by 1,000 in Selangor, 981 in Johor, 827 in Terengganu, and 796 in
Kelantan.
