Mob Ransacks Gurugram Mosque, Threatens to Expel Muslim Devotees From Village

14/OCT/2022

Gurugram: A mob of more than 200 people ransacked a mosque here in a village assaulting people who were praying inside and threatened to expel them from the village.

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) in the incident that happened in Bhora Kalan village Wednesday (October 12) night, but no arrests were reported till Thursday evening.

He said that the ruckus began Wednesday morning, when a mob comprising about 200 people reportedly led by Rajesh Chauhan alias Babu, Anil Bhadoria, and Sanjay Vyas surrounded the mosque and entered the prayer hall where they threatened the namazis with expulsion from the village. The mob claimed that the Muslims were trying to expand the mosque, a claim denied by them.

“In the night again, when we were praying inside the prayer hall in the mosque, the mob came and assaulted the namazis and even locked the prayer hall. They also threatened to kill us,” the Subedar said in his complaint, according to police.

Following Mohammad’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Rajesh Chauhan, Anil Bhadoria, Sanjay Vyas and several others under sections of IPC related to rioting, trying to cause religious strife, and unlawful assembly at Bilaspur Police Station.

Village sarpanch Yajvinder Sharma told the newspaper that “a few miscreants” were responsible for the violence because they feel the Muslim families “might build a bigger mosque and invite people from outside”. He said he got a call from other residents and rushed to the spot. “Men and women were arguing. There was no violence,” he said, according to IE.

Imran Khan, a resident, said they had hired labourers this week to repair the roof and other renovation work. “We built the mosque using our money on our land. Last night, I tried explaining this to the men who vandalised our mosque, but they didn’t care. They said we were encroaching on land to make the mosque bigger,” he said, according to IE.

Addressing the Juma congregation at Badshahi Masjid, he said that only unity among Muslims could take the Ummah forward as Islam is the benefactor to humanity irrespective of caste, color, geography and ethnicity. Tajik President Says Thousands of Suicide Bombers Trained in Afghanistan

By SaqalainEqbal

15 Oct 2022

Emomali Rahmon, the president of Tajikistan, has expressed concern about the presence and activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, as well as the presence of “suicide forces” on the border, echoing the growing concerns of many countries in the international community.

Tajikistan’s President stated at the sixth Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit talks that “tens of thousands of terrorists” and “suicide bombers” are being trained in Afghanistan.

The CICA summit, which was one of the most important post-pandemic foreign policy gatherings on the continent, was attended by 11 heads of state, including the presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Palestine, Russia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, the Emir of Qatar and 50 delegations.

Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, who attended this conference, reiterated the imperative of establishing an inclusive and representative government in Afghanistan.

This comes as the members of the international community have grown concerned about the re-emergence of international terrorist groups and organizations in Afghanistan following the US’s CIA drone operation, which assassinated the al-Qaeda chief in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

Iran's Administration Intensifying Its Crackdown On Journalists, 40 Already Detained

By Anwesha Majumdar

Iran's administration has been intensifying its crackdown on journalists and activists as the country entered its fourth week of widespread protests. In the midst of the unrest in Iran over the tragic demise of MahsaAmini while being in the Morality police’s custody, a report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) revealed that at least 40 journalists have already been detained.

According to a The Guardian report, Reza, a journalist, was assaulted by riot police during the early days of the nationwide protests in Iran, and his press card was taken. He was then suspended after sharing a message about the demonstrations on social media. He said, “My editor informed me that they were taking this [decision] because I defamed the regime, and therefore defamed my publication.” Even though he has been reinstated, his job position has changed.

Reza further added, “I am writing what they’re asking me to write. They’re trying to push stories of how all the news about the protests is untrue. I am in survival mode, so I continue to write what they tell me to.”

Besides Reza, another Iranian journalist named NiloofarHamedi was detained on September 22 after she posted a photo of MahsaAmini's parents hugging each other at a hospital in Tehran on the day when their daughter passed away.

It is pertinent to mention that 22-year-old Iranian woman MahsaAmini died while in police custody on September 16 after she was detained for failing to wear her hijab properly, which further sparked the nationwide protests.

In addition to this, the CPJ even underlined the incident of YaldaMoaiery, a photojournalist who claimed to have been attacked and imprisoned on September 19 while covering protests in Tehran. According to the independent news outlet IranWire, Moaiery called the circumstances at the Qarchak women's jail, located southeast of Tehran, "horrible," noting that there were over 100 inmates jammed into a small area. “There are only three bathrooms … and prison authorities prescribe many tranquillisers for the prisoners,” citing her, The Guardian reported.

Meanwhile, as per Iran Human Rights' most recent statistics, the demonstrations have claimed the lives of at least 201 individuals, including 23 children. Human rights groups claimed that despite the government's announcement that it is looking into civilian fatalities, the crackdown has simply gotten worse. According to a report published by Iran International last week, the administration had detained schoolchildren and taken them to "psychological centres" to keep them from developing into "antisocial characters."

Since the outbreak of the protests, there have been internet outages across Iran, limitations on what Iranians may look up online, and meddling with social media activity. Although authorities are taking action, on Wednesday, there were fresh protests all around the nation. Businesses were shut down in support of the uprising as protests by university students, teens, and merchants were held.

Malay/Muslim groups need to collaborate strongly to tackle social issues: DPM Wong

Goh Yan Han

OCT 15, 2022

SINGAPORE - Malay/Muslim professionals have much to offer and must be mobilised to contribute back to the community, especially as they can be mentors and role models to the next generation.

Mr Wong noted that a growing number of Malay/Muslim professionals have their own unique needs, worries and aspirations, and Singapore will need to see how to help them, including enabling them to upgrade their skills to remain relevant in the workforce.

The AMP convention is held once every 10 years to discuss new strategies that can propel the Muslim community towards greater success.

Mr Wong noted that the proportion of Malay residents over the age of 25 who have attained at least a post-secondary qualification has risen from less than one-third in 2010, to almost half in 2020, driven by more of them obtaining diplomas and degrees.

At the same time, the proportion of Malays in PMET roles has increased to 40 per cent in 2020, up from 30 per cent a decade ago. PMET refers to professionals, managers, executives and technicians.

Malay/Muslim organisations, such as self-help group AMP Singapore, need to collaborate strongly with one another, as well as the Government, to address social issues that are increasingly becoming multi-faceted and complex, said Mr Wong, who is also Finance Minister.

"There will be times when our starting points and methods differ. There will be occasions where we have different views. But so long as we are all focused on the same goal and the common ground we share as Singaporeans, I am confident that we can work together to make everyone better off," he said.

He added that to make a real impact, different community partners need to come together to provide holistic interventions and strong wraparound support.

He said: "That's why we must come together with a family-centric approach - mobilising resources across different entities to meet the needs of the family, rather than forcing the family to cater to our own organisational silos.

"If we take that family-centric approach, I believe we can make progress in uplifting more families, and ensure that Singapore remains a place where everyone can aspire towards a better life."

The Government will continue to invest heavily in the people, said Mr Wong. It will work to equip citizens with relevant capabilities and skills, and give everyone the extra advantage to progress and excel in their careers and professions.

Mr Wong said what AMP Singapore is doing today for the community is exactly what the 4G leadership team hopes to achieve for the country with the Forward Singapore nationwide engagement exercise to build a fairer and more inclusive society.

He added: "Crucially, this exercise is not just about what the Government can do. It is also about what all of us as Singaporeans can do together, and self-help groups like AMP will play a key role in this effort."

In a dialogue with Mr Wong, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Maliki Osman and Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development Faishal Ibrahim, participants raised concerns about Malays being disproportionately represented in the bottom 20 per cent of households, the challenges to social mobility, and majoritarian politics, among others.

In response, the panellists spoke of implementing intervention from young, such as at pre-school level, and called for more involvement from the community as role models or a helping hand.

They also mentioned the need to do more to find the right balance and accommodate one another from different groups, including minorities, as well as noted current efforts to understand, listen, engage and constantly fine-tune policies.

The dialogue was held under the Chatham House rule, which meant that participants’ views could not be attributed to and identified in reporting.

101 Ex-Terrorists Moved From Prison To Deradicalisation Camp – FG

October 15, 2022

The Federal Government on Friday said 101 convicted terrorists and those awaiting trial have been moved from custodial centre to a deradicalisation camp for onward reintegration into the society.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the National Security Council (NSC) meeting at Aso Villa in Abuja.

Irabor and some ministers including Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi; attended the NSC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Controversy had surrounded the release of 101 convicted terrorists after the vicious insurgents, who kidnapped train travellers in Kaduna on March 28, released the last batch of their abductees on October 5.

However, speaking on Friday, Irabor said the ex-combatants were moved from custodial centre to Operation Safe Corridor which was established by the Federal Government in 2016 to receive repentant terrorists.

The CDS said, “The council was also briefed that a total of 101 ex-combatants were taken to Operation Safe Corridor and currently undergoing the process of deradicalisation at the centre.

“These were ex-combatants that have been in detention for several years some of whom have served their terms, others were those who were awaiting trial because of the long time that they have been involved and in line with the procedure for handling anyone who has been exposed to terrorism and related offences.”

Also, Aregbesola said the ex-combatants were moved for deradicalisation and onward reintegration into the society, noting that there was a court order to that effect.

“Actually, there was a judicial order on them which necessitated their transfer from the detention centre to the deradicalisation camp. So, those are the only thing I could add that as a result of a legal decision on their status in detention, those 101 ex-combatants which you want to refer to as terrorist detainees had been moved from the custodial facility to a more appropriate camp for deradicalisation.”

For over a decade, bloodthirsty fighters of the Boko Haram group and its splinter, Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) have wreaked havoc in parts of the country, especially the North-East zone of Nigeria with Borno, Adamawa and Yobe having the highest casualty figure in the past years.

“We have devised both military and non-military methods to intervene, and even rolled out an amnesty programme to rehabilitate repentant terrorists who surrendered and laid down their arms unconditionally,” Buhari had said.

Similarly, the Federal Government said no state governor or government has the right to acquire assault rifles without its approval.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Thursday had issued a one-month ultimatum to the Federal Government to give the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards licence to bear AK-47 rifles, saying his people will make a categorical decision on the matter next month if the Federal Government continues its refusal.

Reacting on Friday, Aregbesola said, “Let’s first debunk one ugly insinuation and false information that we have been getting all over the place. No state government has been empowered to arm any of its security operatives or agency.”

“There is a procedure for whoever wants to legally bring in any weapons to follow. And whoever is authorised by the law of the land to bring in legitimate ammunition, including the army, must go through that process. So, whoever wants to import ammunition or weapons is advised to go through the legitimate process,” the minister noted.

Of late, some state governments have come together to establish regional security agencies to halt kidnapping-for-ransom, herdsmen attacks, banditry, pockets of terrorism, amongst others which continue to plague Nigeria.

Whilst the Amotekun Corps is operational in the South-West since 2020, the five South-East governors established Ebubeagu in 2021 to complement efforts by conventional security agencies.

Like Ortom, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has continued to call on the Federal Government to give Amotekun Corps a licence to bear arms, saying it is discriminatory for Kastina State Government-owned security agency to be granted the privilege whilst others like Amotekun are denied such status.

Muslim student’s holy book torn, veil thrown in trash in France

16 OCTOBER 2022

The Holy Quran was torn and a student’s headscarf was thrown in the trash at a French high school dormitory, media reports said Saturday.

French public broadcasting service, FranceInfo, reported that an unnamed Muslim student at the Jean Rostand High School in the port city of Caen found her Quran and veil in the trash when she returned to her dormitory Thursday.

The student reported the incident to the school management, it reported.

Sebastien Duval-Rocher, headmaster of the school, said in a statement that he and his colleagues were shocked about the incident.

He noted the school is open-minded “and tolerant and accept all confessions,” and said he denounced the “unworthy, intolerable, legally reprehensible act.”

FranceInfo said neither the student nor her family want to file a complaint against the perpetrator but the prosecutor's office acted through the school’s management.

First-ever run by Muslim youth to support Children’s hospital

16-10-2022

A Muslim youth initiative that has already helped to expand a Toronto-area hospital is now in London.

Saturday, the first-ever Mercy4Mankind Charity run, to be held in London, took place at London’s Greenway Park.

Runners and walkers were lacing up their shoes to compete in a 5K race or a 1K stroll with all benefits to Children’s Hospital in London.

Organizer Jalees Khokhar says the goal is to grow the event from its humble first-year beginnings.

Pointing to the larger Toronto-area event, he says local Muslim youth wanted to start similar runs in London and Windsor to ensure funds went to local hospitals.

In time, Khokar hopes other areas of London will benefit from the money raised as the popularity of the run and walk grows.

“We’re hoping that next year, we can allocate the funds, based on whatever the mayor and council members can tell us. But, we thought this would be a good plan moving forward, just for the initial years, to donate to the hospital,” he said.

Oct 16, 2022

By India Today Web Desk: A video of Muslims chanting Hanuman Chalisa at a temple in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh is making rounds on social media. District President of AakhilBharatiya Hindu SenaSachin Verma reportedly asked Muslims to recite Hanuman Chalisa at a temple. In the viral video, half a dozen people and a few kids can be seen doing the same.

Speaking to India Today TV, Sachin Sharma, said, "I am the district president of AakhilBharatiya Hindu Sena and I have asked people from different communities to chant Hanuman Chalisa to spread awareness about Sanatan Dharma. They aren't forced to do so. I have made the people of other communities voluntarily recite Hanuman Chalisa in Hanuman temple."

After the video went viral, Mufti Zahid Ali Khan, former head of the department of Sunni Theology of Aligarh Muslim University and Muslim religious leader, said, "Anyone can read Hanuman Chalisa if they want to. There is no hindrance in it. There is no restriction if Hindus or those who call themselves Sanatan recite Hanuman Chalisa. However, if people from other communities are being coerced into doing so, then this is wrong as per the Constitution. If anyone is forced to follow the teachings of another religion, then this is wrong according to the Constitution."

VUJJINI VAMSHIDHAR

Oct 16, 2022

HYDERABAD: The state government submitted to the High Court that both a temple and mosque would be constructed in the Secretariat premises. They will be ready by the time the secretariat complex is inaugurated. It also clarified that both places of worship were being constructed on ample space and more than fifty per cent construction work had been completed. BJP Reaches Out ToPasmanda (Backward) Muslims, Months After PM's Advice

16-10-2022

Lucknow: A meeting of the BJP and key members of pasmanda or backward Muslims will be held in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow today, in possibly a first such formal sit-down in the state.

The meeting comes nearly four months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked his party, the BJP, to work for uplifting pasmanda Muslims in UP. PM Modi had reportedly made the request while addressing the BJP's national executive meeting in Hyderabad in July.

The BJP's pasmanda Muslim outreach also comes less than a month after its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's chief Mohan Bhagwat met with Muslim intellectuals, including former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi and former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, to discuss sensitive issues such as the Varanasi's Gyanvapi controversy, hate speeches, population control and the campus hijab row in Karnataka.

Mob of 20 Kills Muslim Man in UP Village in Alleged Attempt to 'Scare Off Muslims'

Sumedha Pal

New Delhi: On September 2, a 50-year-old Muslim man named Dawood Ali Tyagi was attacked by a mob in Vinaipur in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district. Around 20 men reportedly charged at Tyagi with sticks and sharp objects late at night, inflicting fatal injuries upon him. Four arrests have been made in the case so far and investigation is ongoing.

However, Tyagi’s family claims that the attack was not random and that it was, in fact, a targeted crime aimed at instilling fear in Muslims. The police claim otherwise.

Tyagi, a farmer, lived in Vinaipur with his wife and daughter while his three sons live study in Delhi. Speaking to The Wire about what transpired, one of his sons, Shahrukh, said, “My father was sat on the porch of the house chatting with our relatives. At around 10 pm, a group of 22 men on about seven or eight bikes arrived.”

Early hearing of contempt plea against Imran sought

Nasir Iqbal

October 16, 2022

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Saturday moved a request before the Supreme Court for early hearing of its contempt of court petition as well as the plea seeking a restraining order for former prime minister Imran Khan against creating a perceived law and order situation through his long march to the capital’s D-Chowk.

Moved through Advocate on Record Anis Muhammad Shahzad on behalf of the Interior Ministry, the application requested the top court to hear the matter preferably from the week commencing Monday.

The contempt of court petition was filed against PTI Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly flouting the Supreme Court’s May 25 order by recalling how the court had ordered the PTI to hold a gathering at the ground located between sectors H-9 and G-9 in view of the categorical assurances on behalf of the party’s top leadership and counsel that their rally would not cause any inconvenience to the public and citizenry or blockage of the Srinagar Highway and that it would be conducted in a peaceful and lawful manner.

GE15: Caretaker PM Ismail Sabri urges party members to stop sabotage, ensure BN’s victory

16 Oct 2022

BERA, Oct 16 — Acts of sabotage or ‘cahketing’ must be stopped to ensure the victory of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 15th General Election (GE15) to form a stable government, stressed caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Umno vice-president said that party members should put the interests of the party as a priority because whoever is chosen as a candidate in the election carries the party’s flag. They are not contesting on individual capacity; their victory is for BN.

“In the election, many want to contest and many are qualified to be candidates... It’s okay if you want to be a candidate. However, just because we want to contest, we are sabotaging our friends who are contesting, doing things to make sure our friends do not win.

Dr Mahathir: GTA has no choice but to back Budget 2023 or voters will shun us

By Syed JaymalZahiid

16 Oct 2022

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), the Malay nationalist political coalition led by PartiPejuang Tanah Air, will have no choice but to support the incumbent government’s 2023 federal spending plan, said its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as he accuses Umno of using the budget to win support ahead of the 15th general election.

GTA said it could risk alienating voters if it attempts to block Budget 2023’s passage, which the two-time former prime minister commended as “seemingly good”. But Dr Mahathir alleged the incumbent government lacks the skills and funding to execute all the programmes, on top of rampant corruption that plagues the party.

“Budget 2023 is clearly an election budget. Opposition parties are not even granted the space to debate the allocations,” he wrote in a statement.

Muslim-Muslim Ticket: APC Will Go Into Extinction After 2023 Elections – Olayemi

By Kalejaiye Abiodun

Oct 16, 2022

It’s obvious by the body language of those representing the federal government at the negotiations table are not serious about the demands of ASSU. If government was serious, there was no need of registering two more unions. Purely, it’s just rule and divide tactics on the part of the government, and it’s a pointer that the APC Buhari led government does not have value for education in the country while its officials are sending their children to the best universities in the world. How does one justify the government action that our children, the supposed leaders of tomorrow have been allowed to roam the streets in the past 8 months, when they are supposed to be in their classes receiving lectures? Apart from the government, those ASSU members that agreed to join the two new unions are worst enemies of ASSU and the students on strike. My take on the strike is that ASSU should not back out of the strike because its demands are legitimate. The government must look into their demands and find lasting solution, otherwise, the government would be seen as implementing the Boko Haram agenda of education is bad.

Release of Boko Haram terrorists: We are unaware, government insists

By OlawunmiOjo

16 October 2022

One week after the discreet release of about 100 Boko Haram terrorists from the Kirikiri medium and maximum security facilities in Lagos, the Nigerian government kept mum and refused to acknowledge there was any such incident.

The prisoners of state were allegedly set free as part of a swap deal for the release of the 23 remaining passengers who were abducted in the Abuja-Kaduna bound train on March 28. But since the release, there have been varied reactions, mostly condemning Federal Government’s action and querying its rationale.

Just as there has been no word from the Ministry of Interior, which supervises the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOs) nor the Ministry of Information and Culture, the military top brass have also refused to admit the prisoners’ release or give any information regarding the incident.

Obajana Cement and Gov Bello’s Fairy Tales

By  Yemi Adebowale

16-10-2022

Anybody listening to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on the Obajana Cement Plant’s dispute with Dangote Cement PLC would think there was a cement production company owned by the Kogi State Government and sold to Dangote Industries Limited in 2002. NO! There was never anything like that. The Kogi State Governor has been dishing out fairy tales about Obajana to weep up sentiments for personal gains. Back in 2002, all that the state’s government had on ground was a cement bagging company. It was importing bulk cement and bagging “Kogi Cement.”

There was no cement manufacturing by the defunct Obajana Cement PLC. It did not also own a mining licence for the vast limestone deposit in Obajana. Even the bagging of cement was done for only a few months before it went under. This is the truth that must be told. Regrettably, Yahaya Bello has been going about blackmailing Dangote Cement with a view to exploiting the company.

Now, let’s critically look at the sales agreement Governor Bello has been twisting. Obajana Cement Plc was the idea of the late Abubakar Audu in 1992, during his first (brief) tenure as governor – January 1992 to November 1993. His ultimate dream was to have a cement manufacturing plant in the state in view of its huge limestone deposit. When late Audu returned as governor in 1999, Obajana Cement was still dead with no assets. In a bid to stimulate manufacturing in the state, he invited Aliko Dangote to buy the dead Obajana Cement PLC and use it as a springboard for cement manufacturing in Kogi State.

DAVID PRATT ON THE WORLD: Why the Islamic Republic is truly rattled by mass uprising in Iran

By David Pratt

16-10-2022

It’s almost exactly a year ago now since I found myself in a remote mountain camp in northern Iraq. The camp was base and home to Iranian Kurdish women fighters of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) whose mortal foe is the regime in Tehran.

For years now when not side-tracked fighting the jihadists of the Islamic State (IS) group these women of the PAK have been engaged in an active campaign to achieve an independent Kurdistan.

That independent state, should it ever come about, would of course include land that is currently part of Iran and as might be expected the government in Tehran have no truck with such political ambitions and what they see as a direct threat to their rule.

Islamic Republic Unmasked: Video Archive Shows Deadly Security Tactics

EHSAN MEHRABI

OCTOBER 15, 2022

The recent protests sparked by the death of 22-year-old MahsaAmini in police custody, and widespread opposition to the entire Islamic Republic’s political system, have been brutally suppressed by Iran’s armed security forces.

During recent protests in Iran, particularly since July 9, 1999, citizens have alleged that armed security have fired directly at peaceful protesters and resorted to brutal acts of violence. The Islamic Republic’s authorities categorically deny these claims. With the widespread use of cell phone cameras, Iran’s security forces are now being recorded by the public on a large scale, making it much harder for the government to issue these denials.
