Islamic Seminary Darul Uloom Deoband Removes Book With
Objectionable Content That Legitimised Sex With Minors And Animals From
Curriculum

By Kavita Bajeli-Datt
22nd October 2023
NEW DELHI: Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has
removed a controversial book prescribed by it in its curriculum, which violated
the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and legitimised sex with
minors and animals.
The book, Bahishti Zevar by Maulana Ali Thanvi, which
contained objectionable, improper and illegal content on children, was removed
from the curriculum after the National Commission for the Protection of Child
Rights (NCPCR) wrote to the district administration of Saharanpur in Uttar
Pradesh to inquire into the matter.
One of the sections in the book said that a mere bath
after sexual intercourse with a minor girl is enough to legitimise the act. Another
shocking section on page 271 is a passage justifying sex with a dead woman, a
minor girl or an animal.
Speaking to this paper, NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo
said they received a complaint about the book’s contents. “Prima facie, the
content presented in the complaint was against the provisions of the law.
Providing such information to people is in the nature of abetment,” he added.
After the commission highlighted the matter, the
district administration established a committee to examine the content. When
the committee’s action was delayed, top district officers were asked to appear
before NCPCR on October 19. The officials informed the commission that the book
has been removed from the curriculum.

‘I Am A Zionist’: Biden Had Told Netanyahu And His War
Cabinet During Visit

Biden, who is of Irish
Catholic descent, has used similar words in the past to profess his affinity
for Israel. (AFP)
-------
Oct 22, 2023
WASHINGTON: When Joe Biden met with PM Netanyahu and
his war cabinet during his visit to Israel, the US President assured them: “I
don’t believe you have to be a Jew to be a Zionist, and I am a Zionist.” The
politicians and generals gathered in the ballroom of the Tel Aviv hotel nodded
in approval, according to a US official knowledgeable of the closed-door
remarks.
Biden, who is of Irish Catholic descent, has used
similar words in the past to profess his affinity for Israel. But the moment,
which has not been previously reported, illustrates how Biden’s decades as one
of the leading “Friends of Israel” in American politics seem to be guiding him
during a defining crisis of his presidency. It also underscores the challenges
he faces balancing unwavering support for Israel with persuading Netanyahu —
with whom he has along history — to avoid worsening the civilian death toll and
humanitarian meltdown in Gaza as well as complicating further releases of
American hostages. “Biden’s connection to Israel is deeply eng rained in his
political DNA,” said Aaron David Miller, a former Middle East negotiator who
served six secretaries of state in both Democratic and Republican
administrations. “Whether he likes it or not, he’s in the midst of a crisis
he’ll have to manage.”

Met Police 'a JOKE' - Officers say they'll 'speak' to
protestor who waved Islamist flag and called for Jihad in Britain

Placard waved at
pro-Palestinian demonstration London
-----
By Jack Walters
22/10/2023
The Metropolitan Police has been slammed as a “joke”
after officers vowed to speak to a protester who called for Jihad in Britain.
Footage which has circulated on social media showed a
protester from the Hizubut Tahrir demonstration chanting “Jihad”, adding: “What
is the solution to liberate people from the concentration camp of Palestine?”
The Metropolitan Police said: “The word Jihad has a
number of meanings but we know the public will most commonly associate it with
terrorism.
“They have assessed this video, filmed at the Hizb
ut-Tahrir protest in central London today, and have not identified any offences
arising from the specific clip.
“However, recognising the way language like this will
be interpreted by the public and the divisive impact it will have, officers
have identified the man involved and will be speaking to him shorty to
discourage any repeat of similar chanting.”
Jihad can be used to refer to a believer’s struggle to
live out the Muslim faith, the struggle to build a Muslim society and the
struggle to defend Islam, including with force if necessary.
It said: “A hate incident is any incident which the
victim, or anyone else, thinks is based on someone’s prejudice towards them
because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or because they
are transgender.”
The document added: “The offence of incitement to
hatred occurs when someone acts in a way that is threatening and intended to
stir up hatred.”
He said: “Chanting Jihad on the streets of London is
completely unacceptable ... it needs to be tackled with the full strength of
the law.”
GB News commentator Darren Grimes also wrote:
“Shouting ‘Jihad! Jihad! Jihad!’ won't get you arrested in Britain, but telling
a copper that they look like your lesbian nan as a teenager will see six
officers pound your door down.”
Nick Timothy, who previously served as a special
advisor to Theresa May and is standing as the Tory candidate in West Suffolk at
the next election, said: “For all the worry about misinformation and living in
a post-truth world, surely the biggest problem is being told by those in a
position of authority not to believe what you can see with your own eyes and
hear with your own ears.”
Conservative MP Mark Jenkinson added: “I didn’t think
the Metropolitan Police could make their handling of this any worse. I was
wrong.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed his actions amounted
to a hate crime after consulting specialist officers with relevant language
skills.

RPF Cop to His Uncle After Gunning Down His Senior, 3
Muslim Passengers in Train, See The “Breaking News”
OCTOBER 22, 2023
The 33-year-old RPF constable, who gunned down his
senior and three Muslim men in the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express on
July 31, called his uncle in Uttar Pradesh and told him to see the “breaking
news” about him on television news channels.
According to a chargesheet filed in court by the
Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP), Chetansinh Chaudhary called his uncle
(mother’s brother) Vasudev Solanki to tell him that he had killed four people
in cold blood. The former railway cop shares a decent relationship with his
uncle, who is a driver and works overnight, and would call him anytime of the
day, police stated in the 1029-page chargesheet.
A report published in The Indian Express said as per
the chargesheet, before killing his senior ASI Tikaram Meena and three Muslim
passengers, his wife answered Chaudhary’s first call to Solanki at 4.30 am and
told him that his uncle was sleeping. Chaudhary told Meena that he was feeling
unwell and to let him get down from the train in Valsad or Vashi. But, he was
told to stay on and rest as his duty was to end soon.
The chargesheet states that when Chaudhary made the
second call at 6.10 am, Solanki received it. He then told his uncle that he had
gunned down his superior and three passengers with his rifle. Solanki was
shocked and told him that he did not believe what he was saying, to which
Chaudhary told him to switch on the television and see him on “breaking news”.

‘Muslims Safe Here, Israel-Like Conflict Not Possible
In India’: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat
Oct 22, 2023
Nagpur: In the countdown to his Vijayadashami address,
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that an Israel-Hamas like bloody conflict or a
Ukraine crisis could never erupt in India as all communities, including Muslims
were secure and safeguarded. Eulogising Maratha king Shivaji for his clarity on
‘Hindu Rashtra’, he said, “The term Hindu exemplifies inclusivity. It’s an
all-embracing concept where discrimination has no place.” The RSS
Sarsanghchalak was addressing students and residents of Nagpur’s Pratap Nagar locality
to mark 350 years of Shivaji’s coronation.
Bhagwat also termed Qutub Shahi emperors of Golconda
as converts, referring to their strategic decision to ally with Shivaji. “The
Maratha warrior expanded his campaign to the South and his exploits rattled the
Qutub Shahis and forced them to hold out a hand of friendship. Shivaji was
against foreign invaders, not his own countrymen. Qutub Shahis were Indians,
who changed their faith at some point of time,” he said.
“The Golconda king made elaborate arrangements to
welcome Shivaji with an extravagant display of wealth and military muscle. He
tossed a question at Shivaji about elephants in his army to which the Maratha
warrior pointed to his soldiers. The Qutub Shahi king then asked if any Maratha
could battle his elephant. Shivaji accepted the challenge and in the duel, a
Maratha soldier cut off the jumbo’s trunk,” said Bhagwat, adding these
anecdotes are not recorded by historians, but are true stories of Shivaji’s
life.

MP Elections: Congress Banks On Muslim Votes In At
Least 22 Seats
October 22, 2023
In the binary politics of Madhya Pradesh dominated by
the BJP and Congress, the 'Muslim vote factor' may be insignificant unlike
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, but the minority vote may prove crucial in at least 22
seats in the event of a neck-and-neck contest in the next month's assembly
polls.
According to Mohammed Mahir, convenor of Madhya
Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad who belongs to Congress, the Grand Old Party's
vote share in the 2018 assembly polls went up by least 3-4 per cent enabling it
to narrowly surge ahead of the BJP. He said MP Congress chief Kamal Nath had
said in 2018 that the party could form a government if 90 per cent of minority
votes are polled in the party's favour.
Madhya Pradesh Congres president Kamal Nath, party's
Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh and other leaders release party's manifesto
(Vachan Patra) ahead of the state assembly elections. (Photo credit: PTI)
"On Nath's appeal, minority votes were polled for
Congress and the result was 10-12 more seats being added to the party' kitty
which the party had failed to win in 2008 and 2013," Mahir claimed.
Notably, the vote share of the BJP (41.02 per cent) was slightly higher than
the Congress (40.89 per cent) in the previous polls even though Congress had
emerged as the single largest party winning 114 out of 230 seats, restricting the
BJP to 109.

Indian govt response to Israel-Gaza war linked to
BJP’s disregard for Muslim world sentiments, says Omar
AMOGH ROHMETRA
21 October, 2023
New Delhi: The Indian government’s response to what
happened in Israel and the subsequent “demolition” of Gaza is linked to the
BJP’s politics and its belief that it doesn’t feel the need to address any of
the sentiments that prevail in the Muslim world, former Jammu & Kashmir
chief minister Omar Abdullah has said.
Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Of South
Asia in the national capital Friday evening, National Conference vice-president
Omar condemned Hamas for its “terror attack” on Israel that “slaughtered”
innocent people while also criticising Tel Aviv for its bombardment of Gaza.
“Make no mistake. I don’t carry any sort of torch or
agenda for Hamas or what they did. What they did was a terror attack. They
slaughtered innocent people. There can be no justification for that. But in the
same breath… flattening Gaza… there can be no justification for that either,“
he said.

Israel-Hamas War: US calls on Iran to stop exporting
arms to militants and terrorists
22 Oct 2023
The United States on Saturday proposed a draft UN
Security Council resolution that says Israel has a right to defend itself and
demands Iran stop exporting arms to “militants and terrorist groups threatening
peace and security across the region".
The draft, seen by Reuters, called for the protection
of civilians including those who are trying to get to safety, notes that states
must comply with international law when responding to "terrorist
attacks", and urges the "continuous, sufficient and unhindered"
delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported.
However, it was not immediately clear if or when the
United States planned to put the draft resolution to a vote. To pass, a
resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no vetoes by Russia, China,
the United States, France, or Britain.

US moves carrier to Middle East following attacks on
US forces
ByLuis Martinez
October 22, 2023
The Pentagon announced late Saturday that it will send
an aircraft carrier and air defense systems to defend U.S. military troops in
response to a growing number of attacks on U.S. facilities, presumably by
Iranian-backed groups as tensions mount amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Additional U.S. military forces in the U.S. have also
been placed in a higher state of readiness for a possible future deployment to
the Middle East on short notice.
In a major change, the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower
and its strike group of a cruiser and destroyers is being redirected to the
Middle East instead of to the eastern Mediterranean where it was supposed to
join the USS Ford strike group as an additional deterrent for Iran and
Hezbollah from broadening the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

WASHINGTON: The US will send a Terminal High Altitude
Area Defense (THAAD) system and additional Patriot air defense missile system
battalions to the Middle East, the Pentagon said on Saturday, in response to
recent attacks on US troops in the region.
The United States has sent a significant amount of
naval power to the Middle East in recent weeks, including two aircraft
carriers, their support ships and about 2,000 Marines.
"Following detailed discussions with President
(Joe) Biden on recent escalations by Iran and its proxy forces across the
Middle East Region, today I directed a series of additional steps to further
strengthen the Department of Defense posture in the region," Defense
Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

Situation in Gaza 'catastrophic': five UN agencies
Oct 22, 2023
GENEVA: The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip
is "catastrophic," five United Nations agencies said Saturday,
calling for more international help as conditions deteriorate in the densely
populated coastal enclave.
Their statement came as Israel said it would step up
its strikes in Gaza to increase pressure on Hamas, and its senior officers
warned troops to be ready to enter the besieged Palestinian territory.
Since shock Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 left
1,400 dead, Israel has launched devastating air and ground bombardments of
Gaza. The Hamas authorities say 4,385 people have died.
"More than 1.6 million people in Gaza are in
critical need of humanitarian aid," said the statement from agencies
including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, the children's
agency.

When Saudi Arabia takes the lead on Palestine, the
‘impact is powerful,’ Malaysia PM tells Arab News
NOOR NUGALI
October 21, 2023
RIYADH: Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has
decried as “insanity” the situation unfolding in Gaza, warning that the world
is not blind to the “hypocrisy” of Western leadership as it has repeatedly
failed to condemn Israeli aggression, and drawing marked parallels with
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking to Arab News on Friday on the sidelines of
the inaugural GCC-ASEAN Summit in Riyadh, Anwar said the conflict in the Middle
East had exposed what he saw as a proclivity for “contradiction and hypocrisy”
in international politics, noting that there is “talk about human rights on one
end,” but the denial of those same rights to others.
“A good student of history and geopolitics wouldn’t be
necessarily surprised that there is so much contradiction and hypocrisy in the
arena of international politics,” he said.

to normalize the conflict with the Zionist enemy are “traitors to Islam and
humanity," calling on the Islamic world to destroy Western hegemony
forever.
Dugin wrote in a post on X website as saying “The forces
of the Islamic world that still dream of mediation and normalization of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict are traitors to Islam and humanity.”
Dugin added "The Islamic world needs unity and
solidarity, not the palliatives that have already undermined Islamic
unity."
He stressed that the Islamic world must “remain strong
and form a pole in the new multipolar world,” calling on it to participate in
“destroying Western hegemony once and for all.”

Hostage release: Qatar can play key role
Oct 22, 2023
PARIS: Boasting good relations with both Western
governments and Hamas, the emirate of Qatar has emerged as the key power in
efforts to release the hostages seized by the Palestinian militant group from
Israel even as other states show readiness to help.
French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday lauded the
key role played by Qatar in the release by Hamas of two American hostages held
since its attack against Israel on October 7, adding he was confident of
further releases. The West is increasingly using the influence of the small but
gas-rich Gulf Arab state, a key global investor, in such situations, with the
role of Qatar also crucial to the release last month of five Americans held by
Iran.
While Egypt has traditionally in recent years served
as the main mediator between Israel and Palestinian groups and Turkey under
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also makes no secret of its desire to be
involved, the focus is on Qatar helping to return the hostages safely.

Ukrainians prepare firewood and candles to brace for a
winter of Russian strikes on the energy grid
Oct 22, 2023
MOSHCHUN: In the humble backyard of a destroyed house,
a 13-year-old chops firewood to get ready for winter. His mother,
TetianaYarema, has been preparing for months as she remembers last winter's
Russian strikes on the energy infrastructure that plunged Ukraine into
darkness. "Those were dark days. I didn't want anything. I just wanted to
pack my things and go abroad," said Yarema, 48, who says she ended up
staying because of her son's insistence.
For the Yarema family, like millions of other
Ukrainians touched by Russia's war on Ukraine, winter is an especially
challenging time.
The mother and son live in trailers that were set up
in their backyard after fighting in the early days of the war destroyed their
house in Moshchun, a village about 25 kilometers (15 miles) northwest of Kyiv.
"I have a feeling that when the cold sets in,
they'll start bombing again," the woman said, echoing the sentiments of
many Ukrainians.

LAHORE: After four years in self-imposed exile, PML-N
supremo Nawaz Sharif landed in Pakistan on Saturday to a rousing welcome by

Clad in blue with a red scarf wrapped around his neck,
the former premier became emotional while talking about the ordeal he, his

Number of Pakistanis looking for opportunities abroad

Syed Irfan Raza
October 22, 2023
ISLAMABAD: Amid a slump in the economy and
hyperinflation, a large number of Pakistanis, particularly the younger
population, are trying to move abroad in search of employment and scholarship
opportunities.
The outflow of Pakistanis can be witnessed by visiting
passport offices and immigration centres where long queues of passport and visa
seekers can be seen these days. A large number of young people are also trying
to move abroad on educational scholarships.
However, some circles described this huge outflow of
people including the skilled citizens a good omen, saying these people would

HYDERABAD: Medical evidence in the murder case of
nine-year-old housemaid, Fatima Furiro, has still remained unavailable pending
completion of the DNA process on the 10th day on Saturday.
The evidence (fresh DNA samples of suspects) was
supposed to be sent the lab of Liaquat University of Medical and Health

Proceedings of this inquiry were also undertaken by a
seven-member committee, headed by Prof Dr Waheed Ali Nahiyo of the hospital’s

The committee is looking into the reasons behind the “mishandling” of the

delayed”. He said DNA samples needed to be collected in LUMHS laboratory for

caretakers should understand and realise gravity of the climate conditions in

This was stated by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl Sindh

Accompanied by Maulana Nasir Mehmood Soomro, the

Government To Probe Why Met Police Concluded 'Jihad'

Israel Hits Mosque Where Militants Were Planning
‘Imminent Attack’
October 22, 2023
Israel says its aircraft have struck a compound
beneath a mosque on the West Bank where members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic
Jihad were planning an "imminent terror attack."
Wafa, the Palestinian Authority’s official news
agency, said at least one person was killed in the strike and several others
were injured in the compound beneath al-Ansar Mosque in Jenin refugee camp.
The Israeli air strike is at least the second in
recent days to hit the occupied West Bank, where violence between Jewish
settlers and Palestinians has surged since Hamas gunmen from Gaza carried out a
deadly Oct. 7 rampage in Israel.
Israeli fighter jets also struck Hezbollah targets in
Lebanon. The Iran-backed Lebanese group and Israel's military have been trading
fire at the frontier almost daily. Hezbollah said that six of its fighters were
killed Saturday on the border, raising to 19 the number of its fighters killed
in the last two weeks.

By Kenneth Tee
22 Oct 2023
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who
returned unopposed as the PAS president for the 2023-2025 term, told Muslims
today that it was their duty to oppose efforts to undermine the country’s
shariah law.
Addressing delegates at the assembly in his closing
speech during the 69th PAS Muktamar, Hadi equated such efforts to acts against
both Allah and Prophet Muhammad.
“At present, our shariah law is being challenged. This
is a challenge to Islam as well, and a challenge to our God the Almighty Allah,
a challenge to our prophet and a challenge to Muslim Malays. This cannot be
allowed.
“We are obligated to oppose such efforts in the form
of attacks against the shariah. This struggle is far more wide-reaching than
ICERD or the Rome Statute,” he said in reference to the two abortive attempts
to ratify the international treaties during the short-lived PakatanHarapan (PH)
administration.

Afghanistan: ‘all four quakes were in the same fault
system’
October 21, 2023
In a short span of about a week, a region about 40 km
from Herat, Afghanistan was struck by four shallow focus earthquakes of 6.3
magnitude. The first earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred at a depth of 14 km
at around 11 am local time on October 7. This was followed by another
earthquake of 6.3 magnitude (at 13.5 km depth) about 30 minutes after the first
quake. Two more shallow focus earthquakes of 6.3 magnitude at 9 km and 6.3 km
depths struck the region close to Herat on October 11 and October 15,
respectively. All four earthquakes occurred on east-west striking fault planes
that dip to either the north or south. The earthquakes occurred within the
Eurasia plate in an intracontinental mountain belt.
Aftershocks, by default, have magnitudes less than the
main event. However, all the four earthquakes near Herat have the same magnitude.
“Because these two earthquakes [on October 7] and the two subsequent
earthquakes [on October 11 and October 15] are all approximately the same
magnitude, we would call them ‘multiplets’ rather than mainshocks, foreshocks,
or aftershocks,” geophysicist Dr. William Bill Barnhart, Assistant Coordinator
at the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program told The Hindu by email.

The safest place for Hindus in Bangladesh — Jagannath
Hall, Dhaka University
DEEP HALDER
22 October, 2023
Nilay Kumar Biswas is safe in room number 7017 of
Santosh Chandra Bhattacharya Bhaban in Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall. This
nondescript room, with four beds and desks, is Biswas’ sanctuary, as are the
other residences, libraries, meeting rooms, dining halls, gardens, and grounds
that comprise Jagannath Hall—the university’s historic hostel complex for
non-Muslim students. Now, Durga Puja celebrations have begun and there are
already reports of alleged attacks on Bangladeshi Hindus and pandals.
“Inside Jagannath hostel, I feel safe as a Hindu. I
can enjoy Durga Puja. But what about the world outside?” asks Biswas, who is
pursuing a one-year Master of Social Science programme in the university’s
Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.
Against the backdrop of rising Islamic fundamentalism
in Bangladesh, it hasn’t been easy for the country’s eight per cent Hindu
minority in recent years. But Jagannath Hall is one of the few places in
Bangladesh where pluralism is not just tolerated but celebrated. Here, Hindu,
Christian, and Buddhist students can enact their religious differences without
fear of reprisal.

How Imam Kashim Imam Almost Became FERMA Chair At 24
By:MichaelJimoh
October 21, (THEWILL) – He made history after
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him chairman of Federal Roads Maintenance
Agency in mid-October. Fresh from university without experience, Imam Kashim
Imam was only 24 when the unsolicited plum appointment landed on his lap like
an apple from above. Citing his youth and inexperience, Nigerians panned the
presidential appointment almost immediately leading to withdrawal barely a week
after.
With the offer, he would have been the luckiest lad in
Nigeria today. A first class graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Brighton
University in the UK, Imam finished his mandatory national youth corp service
in August 2022. With the scents and sounds of Mammie market still fresh on his
olive green regulation “kopashion” uniform, he was named board chair of a
sensitive post and juicy appointment millions of graduates like him would’ve
compulsorily gone on dry fasting for, kept vigil at mountain top prayer
sessions for the infinitesimal chance of landing such a lucrative job.
One can imagine the goodwill calls from family,
frenemies, mates and fellow corp members to the appointee soon after the
announcement by AjuriNgelale, Senior Special Adviser Media and Publicity to
PBAT. There would have been plenty of backslapping too, the mandatory
congratulatory messages following the job offer from so high above without
necessarily soliciting for it. What luck for a 24-year-old!
CV handy, pounding the pavement for years on end for
the average Nigerian graduate post-youth service is part of the experience
leading to gainful employment in the public or private sector. A cossetted
child, Imam had no such experience. The presidential offer probably got to him
in his father’s well-appointed living room in Abuja. Who can blame him?
As is very well known, the gods choose those they wish
to bestow their favour on and not necessarily who is most qualified. After all,
Esau hunted, worked as hard as his donkeys from sunup till sundown but it was
idle Jacob who got the blessing from a half-blind Isaac in his dotage.
