Indian-Origin Man Abhay Nayak Shouts 'Allahu Akbar' And 'Death To Trump' In UK Flight
29.07.25

---------
A mid-air scare gripped passengers aboard an EasyJet flight from Luton to Glasgow on Sunday morning after a 41-year-old Indian-origin man allegedly shouted bomb threats and political slogans, prompting an emergency response and his arrest upon landing.
The man, identified as Abhay Nayak of Luton, reportedly emerged from the aircraft toilet shouting “Allahu Akbar” and claiming he had a bomb.
Eyewitnesses said Nayak began ranting about US President Donald Trump, yelling “death to America, death to Trump” and claiming he wanted to “send a message” while Trump was visiting Scotland.
Panic spread through the cabin as the incident unfolded. Nayak is seen being wrestled to the ground by fellow passengers and pinned down in the aisle. Flight attendants can be seen checking his belongings while passengers look on anxiously.
The pilot declared a mid-air emergency and made a rapid descent. The flight landed safely at Glasgow Airport around 8:20am, where the aircraft was directed to a remote stand and met by police officers. Nayak was immediately taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed that no explosives were found on board. The suspect was not carrying any weapons, and while counter-terrorism officers initially assessed the situation, Nayak is not facing terrorism-related charges.
On Monday, Nayak appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court, where he was charged with assault and endangering the safety of an aircraft under the UK’s air navigation laws.
According to a report by the New York Post, Nayak was found in possession of documents suggesting he held Indian nationality with refugee status, although UK authorities have not publicly confirmed these details.

Brotherhood Beyond Boundaries: Muslims Perform Last Rites Of Kashmiri Pandit, SurinderKoul, in Ganderbal
Umar Raina
July 29, 2025

Ganderbal, July 28: In a moving display of communal harmony, local Muslims in Wakura village of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district came together to perform the last rites of a Kashmiri Pandit, SurinderKoul, who passed away on Monday.SurinderKoul, a respected member of the community and was working at the local court, had chosen to stay in Kashmir during the turbulent 1990s when the majority of Kashmiri Pandits migrated from the Valley. Known for his humility and helpful nature, Koul shared close bonds with his Muslim neighbours. “As soon as we heard about his death, we immediately gathered and arranged everything for his cremation as per Hindu rituals,” said a local Muslim resident. “He was not just a neighbour but a family member to us all.”Muslim men were seen carrying the hearse to the cremation ground and assisting in the entire cremation process. Hundreds of villagers, including women and children, gathered to pay their last respects, highlighting the spirit of brotherhood that still thrives in the Valley. “This is the real Kashmir. Our culture is rooted in coexistence and compassion, not division,” said one of the mourners. The gesture has been widely appreciated and seen as a shining example of Kashmir’s age-old composite culture and interfaith harmony. “This is real Kashmir. We have been living together for decades and are emotionally linked to each other,” said a Pandit mourner, adding that “Muslims have always been supporting them and they feel incomplete with Pandits. This brotherhood is beyond boundaries and will continue to be like this forever.”

At Least 405 Honour Killings In Pakistan In 2024
July 29, 2025

At least 405 honour killings occurred across Pakistan in 2024, most involving women, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan confirmed. Victims were often murdered by relatives in the name of family honour. A recent case in Balochistan saw a couple killed on tribal council orders. Earlier, outrage erupted after social media influencer Sana Yousuf was shot dead by a relative in Islamabad. According to media reports, civil society protests have erupted, demanding justice and an end to parallel justice systems. Despite a 2016 law against honour killings, weak enforcement, especially in rural areas, continues to hinder progress.

Starmer Calls Emergency Cabinet Meeting Over Palestine As ‘Worst-Case Famine Scenario’ Unfolding

29 July 2025

Netanyahu claims 'there is no starvation in Gaza'
------------
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will convene an emergency cabinet meeting later to discuss a peace plan and aid for Gaza, as pressure mounts on him to recognise Palestinian statehood.
“In the coming days, thousands of Gaza's children will either be rescued or allowed to die,” the president of the International Rescue Committee said.
He dismissed Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that there was no starvation in Gaza and urged him to ensure aid reaches Palestinians.
Local health officials confirmed at least 14 more Palestinians, including two children, had died from hunger and malnutrition, bring the toll from starvation and malnutrition to 147, including 88 children.
Israeli human rights groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel have labelled the war on Gaza, which has killed over 59,000 people so far, as “genocide”.
Israeli forces continued their deadly attacks across the territory on Monday, killing at least 78 people, according to local health officials.

Israeli human rights groups allege genocide in Gaza for first time
Thomas Helm
July 29, 2025

Palestinians carry aid supplies which entered Gaza through Israel on Sunday. Bloomberg
-----------
For the first time, two of Israel’s leading human rights groups said that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, as they urged foreign powers to use “every means available” to stop it.
The two groups, B’tselem and Physicians for Human Rights – Israel (PHRI), presented their findings in East Jerusalem on Monday, saying that Israel is “working to destroy Palestinian society in Gaza”. PHRI said it documented evidence that the military is undertaking a “deliberate and systematic destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system”, among other accusations, including the deliberate targeting of civilians.
Many Palestinians and international organisations have said Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, but the addition of two Israeli groups is likely to add pressure on Israel as global condemnation mounts over its conduct during almost 22 months of war. For decades both organisations have been among the most trusted sources of human rights information in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
“An examination of Israel’s policy in the Gaza Strip and its horrific outcomes, together with statements by senior Israeli politicians and military commanders about the goals of the attack, leads us to the unequivocal conclusion that Israel is taking co-ordinated action to intentionally destroy Palestinian society in the Gaza Strip,” said B’tselem’s report.
Both groups slammed the international community for allowing Israel’s leadership to continue its actions in Gaza. They argued that Israel's backers are complicit in genocide “whether through active support or inaction”.
PHRI director Guy Shalev said that “every tool in the toolbox should be used” to stop Israel. “This is not what we think, this is what the genocide convention calls for”.
B’tselem’s report strongly condemns the Hamas-led October 7 attacks on Israel but says Israel’s subsequent “genocidal attack … must be understood in the context of more than 70 years in which Israel has imposed a violent and discriminatory regime on the Palestinians”.
The organisation added that Israel’s impunity in Gaza was endangering other Palestinian territories. “We warn of the clear and present danger that the genocide will not remain confined to the Gaza Strip, and that the actions and underlying mindset driving it may be extended to other areas as well.”

Assam’s latest mega eviction drive begins: over 1,000 cops deployed, 2,000 families likely to be affected
SukritaBaruah
Jul 29, 2025
The Assam government began one of its most high-decibel eviction exercises yet Tuesday morning, which is likely to affect more than 2,000 families in Eastern Assam’s Golaghat district.
Officials estimate that around 15,000 bighas (around 4900 acres) of land in the Rengma Reserve Forest in the Uriamghat area of Golaghat district in which around 2,700 families – mostly Bengali-origin Muslims — had been residing will be cleared of encroachment over two phases. The first phase, which will affect around 2,000 families, will be conducted Tuesday.
“The forest department has divided the area into nine blocks and the residents have been given notices to vacate the area in seven days. In preparation for the eviction, more than 1,500 forces including police, commandos and forest protection personnel have been deployed there,” said a district official.
This will be the latest in a spate of evictions in the state, mostly affecting Bengali-origin Muslims, which the Assam government has called a means to stem “demographic invasion” by “people of one religion”.
The Uriamghat eviction in particular has seen a two-week long campaign, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, leading up to it with him holding it up as a prime case of Bengali Muslims from Central and Western Assam – where their population is concentrated – moving into Eastern Assam, which he has been declaring needs to be protected from “demographic invasion”. He has stated that encroachers have cleared forests in this area for widespread betel nut cultivation.

India denies it was pressured into ending conflict with Pakistan
Meryl Sebastian
29-07-2025
India's defence ministry has rejected US President Donald Trump's claim of ending its conflict with Pakistan in May, saying the country had not responded to pressure from anyone.
Rajnath Singh was speaking at the opening of a parliamentary debate on the 22 April attack in Pahalgam, in Indian-administered Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
India blamed Pakistan for the attack - which it denied - and launched a series of strikes, named "Operation Sindoor", on its neighbour, leading to four days of intense military action from both sides.
Trump has frequently claimed that the ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed neighbours was brokered by the US - which India has denied.

'JD Vance Warned PM Modi Of Massive Pakistani Attack' - Jaishankar In Lok Sabha During Op Sindoor Update
Jul 29, 2025
NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday told the Lok Sabha that US Vice President JD Vance personally alerted Prime Minister Narendra Modi about a massive Pakistani attack just hours before it was launched on May 9.
Addressing the special debate on Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar said, “I’d like to inform the House that on May 9, Vice President JD Vance called the Prime Minister warning of a massive Pakistani attack expected in the next few hours. The Prime Minister, in his response, made it very clear that if such an attack occurred, it would be met with an appropriate response from our side. The attack did take place but was foiled by our armed forces.”
Jaishankar said the country witnessed a “new normal” in its response to cross-border terrorism and that India’s reply on May 10 was swift and devastating. “Every member has seen satellite pictures of Pakistani airfields. You can see from the state of those airfields what was our answer,” he added.India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. Precision strikes were carried out by Indian forces on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with attempted attacks on Indian military positions on May 8, 9 and 10, which were repelled. A major missile aimed at the Adampur airbase was among the threats, but India’s air defence systems, including S-400 and Akash batteries, successfully intercepted them.
Jaishankar said the Indian military’s response included targeted strikes on Pakistani airbases, air defence units, command centres and radar sites. By May 10, under diplomatic pressure and facing heavy damage, Pakistan signalled its intent to halt the fighting. India, however, insisted that any request to cease hostilities must come via the official military channel. “On the 10th of May, we received phone calls sharing the impression of other countries that Pakistan was ready to cease the fighting. Our position was, if Pakistan was ready, we needed to get this as a request from the Pakistani side through the DGMO channel. That is exactly how that request came,” Jaishankar said.
He also rubbished claims that US President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan or linked it to trade negotiations. “At no stage in any conversation with the United States was there any linkage with trade and what was going on. Secondly, there was no call between the Prime Minister and President Trump from the 22nd of April... till the 17th of June,” he said, dismissing Trump’s repeated assertions that he mediated the tensions.

"My Conscience Does Not Allow Me To Watch India vs Pak Match": Asaduddin Owaisi
by:ChandrajitMitra
Jul 29, 2025
New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has joined the opposition clamour against the upcoming India-Pakistan match, voicing his discomfort with watching the Asia Cup match scheduled to be played five months after the Pahalgam terror attack.
India and Pakistan will play a group stage match on September 14, per the Asia Cup 2025 schedule released three days ago, putting on display the greatest rivalry in cricket's history for a Sunday watch. The fixture has triggered an Opposition pushback, reflecting the general public sentiment to boycott Pakistan over its terror nexus.
Raising the matter during the special discussion on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, Mr Owaisi said that his conscience won't allow him to watch the India-Pakistan match.
"When Pakistan's aircraft cannot come into our airspace, their boat cannot come into our water, trade has ended, how will you play a cricket match with Pakistan? When we are not giving water, we are stopping 80 per cent of Pakistan's water, saying that blood and water will not flow, you will play a cricket match," said the 56-year-old MP.

Pakistan-Turk Friendship Strengthened By Shared Values: Attaullah Tarar
July 29, 2025
ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar on Monday hailed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a visionary leader of the Muslim world, praising his unwavering commitment to global Muslim causes and the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Türkiye. Speaking at the launch ceremony of the book “Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Tiger of Islamic World’ authored by Dr. Furqan Hameed, Minister Tarar paid tribute to President Erdogan’s political journey—from his transformative tenure as Mayor of Istanbul to his leadership of the Justice and Development Party (AKP).
He described Erdogan as a “people’s leader and an effective administrator,” whose governance continues to inspire admiration across the Muslim Ummah. The Minister praised President Erdogan’s grassroots leadership and his transformative tenure as Mayor of Istanbul. He highlighted Türkiye’s historic bond with Pakistan and Erdogan’s humanitarian efforts—especially during crises. Highlighting the flourishing Pak-Turk friendship, Tarar cited landmark collaborative projects such as the Lahore Metro Bus and the city’s waste management initiative, developed during Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab. He emphasized that bilateral ties between the two nations are built upon a history of mutual support and shared humanitarian values, dating back to Khilafat Movement.
Tarar noted the emotional bond between the citizens of both countries, recalling how Turkish people celebrated Pakistan’s recent victory over India in the streets of Istanbul and Ankara. “From natural disasters to moments of national pride, our people have stood together, united in empathy and joy,” he said. The minister praised Erdogan’s strong voice on global Muslim issues—especially his outspoken advocacy for Palestine on platforms such as the United Nations, the D-8 Summit, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He saluted Erdogan’s powerful advocacy for Gaza across international platforms, calling him a global leader whose actions reflect deep moral commitment. He condemned the ongoing humanitarian blockade in Gaza, labeling it a “catastrophic violation of basic human rights,” and lauded Türkiye’s swift response to refugee crises under Erdogan’s direction. Tarar also recognized Pakistan’s own efforts in providing humanitarian aid and educational opportunities for Palestinian students, reiterating the nation’s commitment to justice and solidarity. “Pakistan will continue to stand by Palestine through aid, advocacy, and prayer,” he affirmed.
Describing the Pak-Turk relationship as “unbreakable,” Tarar underscored its ideological foundation built on compassion, resilience, and mutual respect. He called President Erdogan the “tiger of the world”—a title earned through decades of dedicated leadership and global outreach—and praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vocal support for Palestine at international forums. Concluding his remarks, the Minister congratulated Dr. Furqan Hameed for his timely and heartfelt tribute to President Erdogan, reaffirming that Pakistan remains a peace-loving nation committed to regional integrity and international harmony. Speaking at the launch ceremony of his latest book, senior journalist and head of TRT Urdu Service, Dr. Furqan Hameed, lauded Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as an extraordinary statesman whose leadership has left an indelible mark not only on Türkiye but across the Muslim world.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Double Standards: Breaching Agreements While Demanding Compliance
By: Ashish Singh
July 29, 2025
On a quiet morning in Karachi on July 27, 1949, representatives from India and Pakistan gathered to end the bloody conflict over Jammu and Kashmir, signing a ceasefire agreement meant to halt months of fighting and stabilise the region. Under international oversight, notably by the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan, this Karachi Agreement drew a ceasefire line through a contested Himalayan region, a gesture toward stability and hope in South Asia.
Yet, 76 years later, this boundary—now known as the Line of Control (LoC)—has become one of the world’s most volatile flashpoints. Despite this, Pakistan frequently invokes the original Karachi Agreement, demanding strict adherence from India, even as its own record of repeated violations paints a stark picture of diplomatic hypocrisy.
This selective behaviour is not an anomaly: Pakistan’s strategy consistently involves demanding international adherence to agreements while undermining those very commitments through its own actions. This entrenched pattern of diplomatic duplicity is a central factor in the region’s continued instability.
The first glaring instance of Pakistan’s breach of the Karachi Agreement unfolded in 1965. Pakistani military planners initiated Operation Gibraltar, a secretive scheme aimed at infiltrating Kashmir with soldiers disguised as local insurgents. This provocative incursion not only violated the fundamental clauses of the Karachi Agreement, which explicitly prohibited introducing additional military forces, but it also rapidly escalated into a full-scale war between the two nations. Though eventually repelled, the operation marked a turning point, eroding trust between neighbours and underscoring Pakistan’s readiness to violate established peace agreements when perceived strategic benefits emerged.
In May 1999, the world watched anxiously as Pakistani forces crossed the LoC once again, quietly capturing strategic peaks in the Kargil district. The resulting conflict saw intense combat amid towering, snow-covered mountains, drawing global condemnation. The Kargil conflict violated not only the 1949 Karachi Agreement but also the subsequent 1972 Shimla Agreement, an accord signed in the aftermath of the 1971 war, which superseded the Karachi agreement and mandated bilateral dispute resolution between India and Pakistan.

Mosque hits back against 'misinformation' surrounding viral Sharia Law job advertisement
James Holt
28 Jul 2025
A south Manchester mosque has hit back against 'misinformation' surrounding a Sharia Law job advertisement which was posted on the Department for Work and Pensions website.
The Didsbury Mosque has responded publicly against what it called 'right-wing' backlash against the job ad for a 'Shariah Law Administrator' that was subsequently posted on the government job portal.
The Department for Work and Pensions advert, which was later withdrawn, sparked accusations that it promoted a 'parallel legal system' incompatible with British law.
The DWP was subsequently criticised by Reform UK and Conservative MPs for hosting the advertisement on the online Find A Job website. The role required the applicant to 'provide all admin and secretarial work' for the Manchester Shariah Council, according to the description, for a salary of £23,500 per year.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage equally took issue with the advert, claiming that the country was being 'destroyed'. He said: "Our country and its values are being destroyed,” in a post on X followed by a screenshot of the advert which was shared publicly online.
Meanwhile Rupert Lowe, the independent MP for Great Yarmouth, posted: "I've formally questioned the DWP on what the hell they are playing at... We live in Britain - we do NOT have, or want, Shariah law."

Sandie Peggie ‘wanted to post bacon through mosque letterbox’
28-07-2025
By James Walker
SANDIE Peggie allegedly told colleagues that she “wanted to post bacon through the letterbox of a mosque”, a tribunal has heard.
The nurse was suspended after she complained about having to share a changing room with transgender medic Dr Beth Upton at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife, on Christmas Eve 2023.
She was placed on special leave after Dr Upton made an allegation of bullying and harassment, and cited concerns about “patient care”.
Peggie then lodged a claim against NHS Fife and Dr Upton, citing the Equality Act 2010, including sexual harassment; harassment related to a protected belief; indirect discrimination; and victimisation.

Why are the police enforcing Islamic blasphemy laws?
Hugo Timms
28th July 2025
Most police forces in Britain may be reluctant to catch criminals, but they have become zealous enforcers of Islamic blasphemy law. The arrest of Christian preacher John Steele last month is the latest example of this disturbing new trend.
Steele was confronted by four police officers in a public square in Rotherham, Yorkshire. His apparent crime? He asked a Muslim woman about the Koran’s view on domestic violence. He wanted to know whether she thought Islamic scripture provides cover for men who assault their wives. This conversation didn’t occur out of the blue: she was volunteering at a street stall that offered advice for ethnic-minority women who might be trapped in violent relationships. Specifically, Steele referred to a passage in the Koran that encourages men to ‘scourge’ women who disobey them.
Newly released police bodycam footage shows Steele milling about harmlessly in the run-up to the arrest, holding a sign with a passage from the Acts of the Apostles. ‘The world has gone mad’, he said, as he was suddenly swarmed by four officers. A policewoman said: ‘We are recording an incident, a hate incident.’ She then told Steele that the woman at the domestic-violence stall ‘felt threatened by your manner’. The officers then asked him for his details so they could register a non-crime hate incident, but he refused and was then arrested.

Another 236 people return to Aghdam'sKhidirli under resettlement program
29 July 2025
Another group of former internally displaced persons has been relocated to the village of Khidirli in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district as part of the ongoing “Great Return” initiative.
According to local media, this latest phase of the resettlement program has enabled 60 families—comprising a total of 236 individuals—to return to their native village. Prior to their return, these families had been living in temporary accommodations, including dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative facilities in Baku and other regions across the country.
“It is impossible to describe my emotions in words. The joy is overwhelming. Praise be to Allah—we are going back to our homeland,” said Amil Gurbanov, one of the residents returning to Khidirli.
Gurbanov extended his gratitude to all those who made the return possible. “I pray for Allah’s mercy upon all our martyrs and wish good health to our veterans. We are deeply grateful to our President, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. It is thanks to their efforts that we are now returning to our liberated lands,” he said.

In the heart of old Cairo last month, one of the Middle East’s longest-running rifts was being publicly laid to rest.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, flanked by Egyptian officials, walked through Cairo’s historic Khan el-Khalili bazaar, prayed at the Al-Hussein Mosque, and dined with former Egyptian foreign ministers at the storied Naguib Mahfouz restaurant. Araghchi was unequivocal when he posted during his trip that Egyptian-Iranian relations had “entered a new phase.”
This visit was more than routine diplomacy, but a signal of a potentially seismic shift between two Middle Eastern powers, drawn together by the pull of shared crises.
The rupture began in 1979, when Iran’s revolutionary leaders severed diplomatic relations after Egyptian President Anwar Sadat signed the Camp David Accords with Israel — a betrayal in Tehran’s eyes. The schism deepened when Cairo granted asylum to the deposed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was just overthrown by a popular revolution which birthed a new Islamic Republic under the leadership of Ayatollah Khomeini. He died and was buried in Egypt in 1980.
During the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988), Egypt’s material support for Saddam Hussein’s regime cemented Tehran’s view of Cairo as an antagonist. For decades thereafter, diplomatic relations remained frozen, with only intermittent and largely fruitless attempts at dialogue.
Against this backdrop of accumulated grievances, Tehran’s recent renaming of "Khalid al-Islambouli Street," is a particularly significant gesture. The street had honored the chief suspect in Sadat’s 1981 assassination, whom Iran hailed as a "martyr" after his court-mandated execution by firing squad. The new name, “Hassan Nasrallah Street” instead pays tribute to Hezbollah’s slain leader, killed by Israeli airstrikes in 2024, rectifying a decades-old insult to Egypt.
This renaming represents a strategic concession, resolving what Araghchi called the “final hurdle” to normalization weeks earlier. Cairo’s swift public embrace of the move, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador TamimKhallaf calling it a "positive step" that "helps put matters back on the right track," demonstrated Egypt’s willingness to turn the page.
During marathon meetings with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in June, Araghchi asserted that "trust between Cairo and Tehran has never been this high." The tangible outcome of the meetings was an agreement to establish regular political consultations at the sub-ministerial level — a structured channel absent since 1979.

Iran's Intel. Ministry exposes US-Israeli plot against Iran
28-07-2025
TEHRAN, Jul. 28 (MNA) – Iran's Intelligence Ministry has issued a detailed statement exposing a 12-day coordinated campaign by the US, the Israeli regime, and their regional allies to destabilize and dismember the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Intelligence commemorated the 40th day after the martyrdom of Iranians in the recent 12-day imposed war, paying tribute to the fallen civilians, military commanders, nuclear scientists, and anonymous intelligence officers. It reiterated its steadfast allegiance to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and his strategic directives.
The ministry emphasized that the enemy’s aggression on June 23 was not a limited operation, but a premeditated and multifaceted war.
According to the statement, the US-Israeli alliance, alongside several European accomplices and terrorist groups, launched an extensive campaign using military, cyber, intelligence, cognitive warfare, and internal destabilization to force Iran into submission and dismantle the Islamic Republic.
The war preparations included deceptive negotiations, the misuse of international organizations, and illegal resolutions from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, media propaganda, and intelligence operations by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the Pentagon, and Israeli-linked corporations utilizing advanced satellite and cyber technologies, it added.

Lack of action on Gaza erodes Muslims’ sense of belonging in Canada: envoy
July 28, 2025
Ottawa’s approach to the war in Gaza is eroding many Muslim-Canadians’ “sense of belonging” in this country, says the federal special representative on combating Islamophobia.
“This ongoing, horrifying situation is deeply, deeply damaging the sense of belonging that people feel,” Amira Elghawaby said in an wide-ranging interview with The Canadian Press.
Elghawaby’s job since February 2023 has been to advise Ottawa on how federal policies, including foreign policy, affect Muslim Canadians.
She said Muslims have been horrified by the Israeli military offensive and aid restrictions in Gaza that followed the October 2023 attack by Hamas militants which killed 1,200 in Israel.
The Hamas-run health ministry reports that Israel has killed nearly 60,000 Palestinians in its military offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has included airstrikes on ambulances and hospitals.

Beyond Gaza’s Shadow: The Unseen War for the West Bank’s Future
Ramzy Baroud
July 29, 2025
Israel is meticulously following a textbook model of instigating unrest in the occupied West Bank. The latest such provocations consisted of stripping the Palestinian-run Hebron (Al-Khalil) municipality of its administrative powers over the venerable Ibrahimi Mosque. Worse, according to Israel Hayom, it granted these powers to the religious council of the KiryatArba Jewish settlement, an extremist settler body.
Though all Jewish settlers in occupied Palestine can be qualified as extremists, the approximately 7,500 inhabitants of KiryatArba represent a more virulent category. This settlement, established in 1972, serves as a strategic foothold to justify subjecting Hebron to stricter military control than virtually any other part of the West Bank.
KiryatArba is infamously linked to Baruch Goldstein, the US-Israeli settler who, in February 1994, unleashed a horrific attack. He opened fire at Muslim worshipers kneeling for dawn prayer at the Ibrahimi Mosque, mercilessly killing 29. This bloodbath was swiftly followed by another, where the Israeli army brutally cracked down on Palestinian protesters in Hebron and across the West Bank, murdering an additional 25 Palestinians.
Yet, the Israeli Shamgar Commission, tasked with investigating the massacre, resolved in 1994 that the Palestinian mosque, a site of profound religious significance, was to be grotesquely divided: 63% allocated to Jewish worshipers and a mere 37% to Palestinian Muslims.
Since that calamitous decision, oppressive restrictions have been systematically imposed. These include pervasive surveillance and, at times, unjustifiable, extended closures of the site, solely for exclusive settler use.

Finnish researcher says Israel seeking ‘final solution’ in Gaza
July 29, 2025
The head of a state-funded research institute in Finland accused Israel on television of seeking a “final solution” against Palestinians through “annihilation” in “concentration camps,” prompting local Jews and others to accuse her of spreading antisemitism.
Susanne Dahlgren, director of the Finnish Institute in the Middle East, spoke last week with Finland’s public broadcaster YLe, where she was interviewed about Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “clearly is driving toward ethnic cleansing,” said Dahlgren, whose institution received 91% of its budget in 2024 from Finland’s education ministry.
Dahlgren criticized Germany for supporting Israel, using language that YaronNadbornik, president of the Central Council of Jewish Communities in Finland, told JNS was antisemitic.

Myanmar: Arakan Army Oppresses Rohingya Muslims
July 28, 2025
Bangkok – The Arakan Army, an ethnic armed group in Myanmar’s western Rakhine State, has imposed severe restrictions and committed grave abuses against the ethnic Rohingya population, Human Rights Watch said today.
The Arakan Army’s territorial gains in the state have been accompanied by movement restrictions, pillage, arbitrary detention, mistreatment, and unlawful forced labor and recruitment, among other abuses against the Rohingya. Myanmar’s military has long subjected the Rohingya to atrocity crimes, including the ongoing crime against humanity of apartheid.
“The Arakan Army is carrying out policies of oppression against the Rohingya similar to the those long imposed by the Myanmar military in Rakhine State,” said Elaine Pearson, Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “The Arakan Army should end its discriminatory and abusive practices and comply with international law.”
The Arakan Army pledged inclusive, equitable governance in areas it captured from Myanmar’s abusive military junta, following fighting that resumed in November 2023. But Rohingya describe life under the Arakan Army and its political wing, the United League of Arakan, as harsh and restrictive, with discriminatory regulations and practices.
From April to July 2025, Human Rights Watch interviewed 12 Rohingya refugees who had fled to Bangladesh from Buthidaung township in northern Rakhine State.
“Life under the Arakan Army’s control was incredibly restrictive,” said a 62-year-old Rohingya refugee who arrived in Bangladesh in June. “We were not allowed to work, fish, farm, or even move without permission. We faced extreme food shortages, with most people begging from one another.”

High Court dismisses Dzulkefly’s bid to recuse judicial commissioner from Najib defamation suit
29 Jul 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — The High Court here today dismissed Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad’s application to recuse Judicial Commissioner (JC) Arziah Mohamed Apandi from presiding over his defamation suit against former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, which concerns a Facebook post alleging cronyism.
In delivering her decision, JC Arziah held that the plaintiff had failed to demonstrate any real danger of bias arising from her prior case management directions or from the fact that she is the daughter of former Attorney General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.
“The relationship is between my father and the defendant (Najib), not between myself and any party. There is no evidence of any continuing relationship between my father and the defendant beyond a brief court appearance as a witness in 2019.
“My father ceased to hold office at the AGC in 2018, which is seven years ago. Any connection to this litigation is tenuous and historical,” she said.
Arziah further stated that the court found no evidence of actual bias or circumstances that would lead a reasonable observer to conclude it exists.

Two-state solution ‘only path to justice’ in Palestine, says Saudi envoy to US

“This is not merely a diplomatic position; it is a moral, strategic, and practical necessity grounded in justice and the pursuit of a shared future,” she wrote.

CAIR-Oklahoma Expresses Concern About Racial Stereotypes Used in Police Social Media Post
July 28, 2025
The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) today expressed concern about racial stereotypes used in a now-deleted social media post by Owasso, Oklahoma, police.
A Facebook post by the Owasso Police Department promoting a blood drive used phrases and images referencing an episode of the “South Park” TV program showing a cartoon image of Black and Brown men wearing red as members of the Bloods street gang. That post sates: “We won’t jump you in.” The post was later removed and a city statement said it “does not represent the culture and values of the City of Owasso or the Owasso Police Department.”
“We are deeply troubled by the use of racially-charged imagery and language in what should have been a simple and inclusive call for community service. This kind of messaging, even if intended humorously, reinforces harmful stereotypes about minority communities and undermines trust in public institutions—especially law enforcement.”

Thousands displaced after IS-backed group launches attacks in northern Mozambique
29 Jul 2025
Terrorist incursions into the Chiúre district of northern Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province have displaced thousands of people, with a local Islamic State-affiliated group claiming responsibility for an early attack on a police station, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reports.
Members of the Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamaah (ASWJ) group said they carried out the Thursday attack on Chiúre Velho police, sharing video of the incident on Islamic State propaganda channels. What appears to be fire bursts of machine gun fire precede the rebels entering the station. They took materials after burning a vehicle and “freeing Muslim prisoners.”
No victims or injuries have been reported. However, ValigeTauabo, governor of Cabo Delgado Province, confirmed to Lusa on Friday that rebels had attacked the district and prompted residents of two towns to leave, emphasising that security forces were working to restore order.
A count taken on Saturday revealed 11,980 people had been displaced from the district, according to the newspaper Carta de Moçambique. Authorities promised that basic food items would be provided to the displaced, as terrorists reportedly continued to circulate in some areas of Chiúre district.
