‘Hijab Not Essential In Islam, It Is A Conspiracy To Stop The Muslim Girls From Progressing: Arif Mohammad Khan Kerala Governor

The row surrounding the ban of hijabs and other religious attire inside colleges in Karnataka remains at its peak while sparking several reactions from the student community as well as from political leaders across the country.

In recent news, Kerala Governor Arif Khan expressed his opinion on the current hijab row erupting in the state, saying that hijab is not an essential part of attire for Muslim women, and urged them to keep attending school and college to continue their education.

While speaking to news agency ANI, Khan said, “Hijab is not a part of Islam. Hijab is mentioned seven times in Quran, but it is not in connection with the women’s dress code. It is a conspiracy to stop the Muslim girls from progressing.”

The Kerala governor further added, “The hijab controversy is a conspiracy to stop the education of Muslim girls. The Muslim girls are studying now and achieving what they want. I would suggest the students return to their classrooms and study.”

While talking about the argument about Sikhs wearing turbans during classes, Arif Khan termed the debate as “absurd” and said that hijabs are not necessary for Islam but turbans are absolutely necessary for Sikhism.

He said, “The argument that wearing a turban is allowed to the Sikhs but the Muslim girls are not being allowed to wear hijab inside the classroom is absurd. Turban is an essential part of the Sikh religion, however, the hijab is not mentioned as an essential part of Islam in the Quran.”

The Kerala governor further added, “Hijab has no connection with Islam. The Hijab word is used seven times in Quran but it is not in connection with the dress code of women. It is in connection with ‘purdah’ which means that when you speak, you should have ‘purdah’ in between.”

Khan also emphasized that women are free to wear anything they want, and should comply with the rules and regulations set by universities they are currently working in or seeking education from.

Kerala governor Arif Khan said, “You are free to wear anything that you want. But when you are associated with an institution, you have to adhere to the rules and regulations and the dress code of the institution.”

LAHORE: A middle-aged man was stoned to death by a mob over alleged desecration of the Holy Quran in a remote village of Khanewal district on Saturday.

The killing comes on the heels of an identical incident in Sialkot, where a Sri Lankan engineer was lynched by factory workers on Dec 3 last year on blasphemy charges.

The Saturday incident took place in Jungle Dera village where hundreds of locals gathered after Maghrib prayers following announcements that a man had torn some pages of the Holy Quran and later set them on fire.

With no one ready to listen to the suspect, who reportedly claimed innocence, the villagers first hanged him with a tree and then hit him with bricks, until he died.

According to an eyewitness, a police team which reached the village well before stoning arrested the suspect but the growing mob snatched him from the SHO’s custody. Chief Minister Usman Buzdar sought a report from IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan.

Israel-Saudi Peace Could Be Bridge To Entire Muslim World But Saudi Arabia Is Complicated And Peace May Take Some Time

Dr. Najat AlSaied on a visit to Israel in February 2022. Credit: Courtesy.

-----

By Maayan Hoffman

February 13, 2022

A Saudi Arabian professor who now lives in Dubai has told JNS that peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia “will happen” but that it could take more time.

“If you ask me, logically and rationally, it will happen,” Dr. Najat AlSaied said. “But Saudi Arabia is complicated and peace may take some time.”

She noted that while Israel and Saudi Arabia share a common enemy in Iran, security is not the only consideration for a country like Saudi Arabia, which she said represents the Islamic and Arab world as the home of Mecca and Medina.

Nonetheless, AlSaied said that peace could happen and, if it did, “it would bring peace between Israel and the entire Muslim world.”

AlSaied was in Israel from Sunday to Friday last week, during the same period that several top Israeli officials visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Emirati parliamentarians met with colleagues at the Knesset. She said that the recent surge in visits by Israel and Emirati officials to each other’s countries were meant to send a message: Peace is stronger than hate and violence.

She told JNS that the recent visits to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov and police chief Yaakov Shabtai were timed to the tensions simmering in the region.

A drone attack by the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels on a fuel depot in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 17 killed three civilians. It was followed up by at least two more missile attacks, both intercepted, including one during Herzog’s trip.

“They [the Houthis] don’t want to see this kind of peace and normalization between Israel and the Gulf,” AlSaied said of the Abraham Accords, which were signed in September 2020. “But when the Israelis are coming despite these missile attacks, Israel and the Gulf are saying, ‘Do whatever you want to do, the peace will not evaporate and fail because of your silly, immature actions.’”

She called the visits by the officials “symbols of peace” and said that when there is a warm, people-to-people peace, the Iranians and their proxies use it for hegemonic purposes—as a reason to show their force to the Arab public.

AlSaied was in Israel through her role as the academic and media consultant for the NGO Sharaka, which means “partnership” in English. The organization was founded by young leaders from Israel, the UAE and Bahrain in the aftermath of the accords, to help turn the vision of people-to-people peace into reality.

In addition to her volunteer work, AlSaied is a professor at American University in the Emirates. She previously served as a researcher at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) in Abu Dhabi, and as an assistant professor at Zayed University in Dubai.

AlSaied told JNS that her days in Israel were packed from “early morning until late at night” meeting the people she had connected with via online webinars and other virtual activities in the last 18 months. This was her first trip to the country. She had tried coming to Israel six earlier times, she said, but each trip was canceled for one reason or another, from the Israeli elections to COVID-19 and even the weather.

She met with representatives of the Government Press Office in Jerusalem, where she spoke about women in journalism, schmoozed with professors at Hebrew University and the Open University and held meetings with her contacts in the Foreign Ministry—in addition to visiting friends from various sectors.

“I thought when I would arrive, I would see like a mini-New York,” AlSaied told JNS. “But my expectations were wrong: Israel is like a part of the Arab world, more Middle Eastern than Western.”

AlSaied walked around between the various quarters—Arab, Christian, Armenian and Jewish—and said she was struck by the mosques, churches and synagogues all situated in close proximity to one another and coexisting, at least most of the time.

“I saw the Abraham Accords embodied in front of my face,” she said. “It was amazing. This is something that will always be captured in my mind.”

Normalization With Tel Aviv Can Foist A Heavy Political Price On Erdogan

February 13, 2022

Source: Al Waght News

On Wednesday, Israeli newspaper the Yedioth Ahronoth reported a visit to Turkey of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Director-General Alon Ushpiz in preparation for next month visit of the Israeli President Issac Herzog's visit to Ankara. His meeting with the Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin comes as earlier Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said that the Israeli president would travel to Turkey in early February. Many political observers agree that as part of a de-escalation policy he has embarked on over the past months, Erdogan is normalizing with Tel Aviv.

The approach of Erdogan and other Turkish government officials clearly demonstrate that the Turkish leader is seriously seeking to normalize relations with Tel Aviv and maintain economic relations between the two sides. The new Turkish tendency comes as since 2018 and following stepped up Israeli attacks on Gaza and Trump relocation of American embassy from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds (Jerusalem), Turkey recalled its ambassador from the Israeli regime, triggering similar response from Tel Aviv.

Over the past two years, Erdogan has backed down from his aggressive and tense approach with various actors under a charm offensive, pursuing a strategy of de-escalating and normalizing relations with Arab countries and, more recently, the Israeli government. In addition to sending political signals, Erdogan has spoken of readiness to cooperate with the Israelis in all areas, including gas sector. On February 4, Erdogan said Turkey can use Israeli gas and cooperate with Tel Aviv to send it to Europe.

Erdogan's remarks are basically meant to defeat an anti-Turkish regional alliance. Turkey's gas exploration in the Mediterranean Sea in the past few years has brought Greece, Cyprus, Egypt and the Israeli regime under an anti-Turkish coalition. Even in 2018, Donald Trump supported EastMed Pipeline project which is aimed at transferring Israeli gas to Europe via Cyprus. But after Biden took office, support for the plan was quietly quitted, with new administration officials citing the project as a source of tension and instability in the region. Now Erdogan wants Turkey the only way through which the Israeli gas reaches Europe in a bid to break the opposite alliance.

After 2009, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly tried to portray himself as a supporter of the Palestinians and their cause and an ally of the resistance political groups, on top of them Hamas, in the occupied territories. He has even been aspiring to introduce himself as the leader of the Islamic countries in the Palestinian case. During various statements and meetings, he verbally attacked the Israeli regime. This trend culminated in 2018 and led to the severance of relations with Tel Aviv, but the fact is that Erdogan and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have never been true allies of the Palestinian people.

In the current context, Erdogan has argued that his efforts to normalize relations with the Israelis do not mean turning his back on Palestinian groups, and that Ankara will continue to defend the rights of Muslims in the occupied territories. However, any friendship with the Israeli regime, actually, should be viewed as running counter to the interests of Palestine. Late last year, Erdogan invited the Jewish rabbis in Istanbul, signaling his efforts to persuade the Israeli lobby in the US to sway Biden policy for the good of Turkey. Therefore, in the normalization case, the claim of maintaining ties with the Palestinian resistance while engaging with the Israelis is a political propaganda and a deception of public opinion at home and abroad.

A set of reasons may drive Erdogan's decision for détente with the Israelis, among them an aim to heal the economic crisis and also win support of the pro-Israeli lobbies to stay in power in next elections. But his new approach which is adopted using normalization can deliver the reverse and cost him and his party heavily.

Actually, now a large part of the Turkish society and also Muslim world public view any thaw with Tel Aviv an unforgivable betrayal of the Palestinian cause. If done, the normalization would harm Erdogan image at home and across the Muslim world— something potentially paving the way for AKP loss in next elections and foisting a heavy price on Erdogan and his political future.

Reserve Of Afghanistan Does Not Belong To Afghan Government, Its Freezing Is Injustice: Taliban UN Nominee

Nominee of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for the United Nations Suhail Shaheen

-----

By Najibullah Lalzoy

13 Feb 2022

Nominee of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for the United Nations Suhail Shaheen reacted to the US president Joe Biden’s decision over allocating $3.5 billion to the victims of 9/11 and said the reserve only belongs to the people of Afghanistan.

“Reserve of Da Afghanistan Bank-Afghanistan Central Bank- does not belong to governments or factions but it is property of the people of Afghanistan. It is only used for implementation of monetary policy, facilitation of trade and boosting of the financial system of the country.” Reads a Twitter post of Shaheen.

Suhail Shaheen added that the money has never been used for any other purpose but the ones mentioned.

Referring to the $3.5 billion still frozen in the US banks, Shaheen criticized that freezing and disbursement of the money for any other purpose is injustice and not acceptable to the people of Afghanistan.

The decision by Joe Biden has been attacked by everyone in Afghanistan and the common people have accused the US president of stealing the money of impoverished people of Afghanistan.

Once A ‘Deciding Factor’, Muslims Prep To Regain ‘Poll Position’ As A Formidable Electorate In Uttar Pradesh

Feb 13, 2022

LUCKNOW: Once seen as the ‘deciding factor’ for their propensity for ‘strategic voting’, Muslims were a formidable electorate in Uttar Pradesh until the 2014 general elections, when BJP’s strategy of consolidating Hindu votes across the vast state’s deep caste divide pushed the minority vote to the margins.

Eight years and three major elections later, the Muslim ‘vote bank' is quiet in 2022—though the community that makes up more than 19% of UP’s population can still influence the outcome in over 120 of 403 assembly constituencies through its numerical strength.

What was its strength became its weakness after 2014 when not a single Muslim member of parliament from Uttar Pradesh made it to the Lok Sabha. More than 120 seats have 20% or more people from the community, but the number of Muslim MLAs dwindled to 25—from 68 in 2012, the highest ever in the UP assembly.

MP: Headcount, not headscarf, is worrying principal of school in Muslim-majority locality

by Iram Siddique

February 13, 2022

Head covered in a hijab and face in a mask, Zoya Khan (16) is among the first to turn up at the government higher secondary school in Nishatpura, a Muslim-majority locality, in Bhopal. It is a routine morning for Zoya, unaware of the controversy playing out in several colleges in Karnataka after hijab-wearing students were barred from classes. All that occupies Zoya’s mind is the upcoming board examination. “I want to get a job in a bank and support my parents,” says Zoya.

Sharing the bench with Zoya is Shrishti Shrivastav, who sports a red tikka on her forehead. The tikka is something Shrishti puts up from a temple on her way to school every day. While the two wait for their teacher to come in, their friend Sadaf Khan, with her head covered in a white hijab, joins them.

“There is no compulsion from my home to wear a hijab. But I like to wear it as it gives me a sense of protection while walking from home to school. There are many men who loiter around. With my head covered, they don’t seem to notice me. It helps,” says Zoya.

Turkish Islamist Foundation Linked to Child Sexual Abuse Is Financing New York City Dormitory

by Burak Bekdil

January 30, 2022

Turkey's Islamist government is set to complete a pair of construction projects in New York City that, among other uses, will house Turkish-American students and expose Muslim youth to Turkish propaganda and extremism.

However, Turkey's indoctrination of Muslim youths isn't the only reason why New Yorkers should oppose the Islamist government's real estate plans. A notorious Turkish foundation accused of numerous cases of child abuse and rape will fund and administer one of these dormitories.

The U.S.-based Türken Foundation, an organization set up jointly by two other religious foundations, Ensar and Türgev, is building a massive 21-story dormitory to "shelter" Turkish-American youths from the enemies of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). The building, called the Türken House, is being erected on a $15.5-million plot on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 41st Street.
