500 Indians Attracted To ISIS, Being Tracked In Real Time

Neeraj Chauhan

May 31, 2016

New Delhi: Islamic State may have so far failed to create a larger influence in India but the latest estimate of government and intelligence agencies suggests that 400 to 500 Indians have been attracted towards the ideological lure of the so-called caliphate.

These men, mostly youngsters, interact regularly on the web and make efforts to get in touch with someone from the IS and are seeking ways to travel to the region in Iraq and Syria held by the outfit even as they discuss the terror group's "achievements" around the world.

The government has claimed that IS has had limited sway on Indian Muslims and it is not likely to make much of an impact. But the 500-odd Indians who are 'attracted' to the IS have kept intelligence agencies, state police departments and National Investigation Agency on their toes.

NIA May Have Traced ISIS India Kingpin

Drimi Chaudhuri

May 31, 2016

In its investigation into the October 2014 blast at Burdwan’s Khagragarh, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) could have stumbled upon the mastermind behind Islamic State (IS) operations in India.

A 25-year-old from Bengal could be the key to Indian activities of the ultra hard-line Islamic organisation, which has declared itself an independent “Caliphate”.

Even though the agency is keeping the details close to its chest, sources said that investigators are focusing on Enamul Mollah, a youth hailing from South 24 Parganas here. He is one of the 30 persons named in the chargesheet to the blast case, which took place at a house in Khagragarh of Burdwan district in Bengal on October 2, 2014.

Turkish PM urges Merkel for ‘prudence’ on ‘genocide’ resolution

31 May, 2016

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım in order to congratulate him on his new post, an occasion the latter used to voice Ankara’s uneasiness over the Bundestag’s plans to recognize the World War I killings of Anatolian Armenians as genocide.

Merkel called Yıldırım and extended her wishes of success, sources from the Turkish Prime Minister’s Office told the state-run Anadolu Agency late on May 30.

“The prime minister [Yıldırım] stated that we have attached importance to improving our cooperation with Germany, which has expanded in a wide field, and to the continuation of our high-level political dialogue,” the same sources, speaking anonymously, told the agency.

“He has emphasized that the initiative at the German parliament which contains baseless and unfair judgments concerning the 1915 incidents have been followed with concern by both our government and millions of Turkish citizens living in our country and Germany and that we expect the government and the parliament of Germany to display a prudent approach on this issue,” the sources said.

Salafists build a community in the heart of Europe

Monday, 30 May 2016

Two veiled women work the land while a man collects eggs in a bucolic Bosnian village – now notorious for exporting fighters to Syria.

“This is how we finance terrorism,” joked 50-year old Izet Hadzic as he opened his henhouse in Osve, which overlooks a peaceful valley in the Balkan country’s north.

A gray-bearded former rock musician, Hadzic founded this “dzemat” (religious community) in the late 2000s – one of dozens in Bosnia that refuse to comply with the country’s official Muslim leaders.

Top eurocrat admits EU collapse would be BRUSSELS’ fault for mad rush to Euro superstate

May 31, 2016

In a frank acceptance of rising euroscepticism across the continent, European Council president Donald Tusk confessed Brussels officials have blindly hurtled towards forming an EU superstate against the wishes of most Europeans.

The ex-Polish prime minister, who worked with David Cameron on his renegotiation of Britain’s EU relationship, also claimed now is the wrong moment to push ahead with further integration between all 28 member states.

Speaking less than four weeks before the UK’s historic in/out referendum on EU membership, Mr Tusk delivered a candid speech to federalist euro politicians.

Top EU bosses have consistently warned Britain exiting the EU on June 23 could spark the entire break-up of the bloc.

Push for hudud law raises tensions in Malaysia

May 31, 2016

Kuala Lumpur (CNN)A proposal in Malaysia's Parliament to introduce the strict Islamic penal code known as hudud law is threatening to split the country's government apart.

The proposed bill was introduced in parliament last Thursday by Abdul Hadi Awang, the president of the country's opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party.

It will be debated in October and, if passed, will replace current provisions in the country's Sharia courts -- which govern Muslims -- with harsher hudud punishments. Hudud law allows for penalties such as amputation of limbs and stoning.

Digital Jihad on rise, need specialists to crack online terror indoctrination: Security officials

May 31, 2016

Digital jihad and cross-border infiltration of terrorists have been the two biggest challenges for the Narendra Modi government in the last two years even though there has been no major strike in the hinterland. But this, security officials feel, is just "good fortune" and no reason to pat each other's back. However, the government has managed to get a grip on the situation in the Northeast. In a rare act, security forces last year crossed over to Myanmar and carried out an operation against the NSCN (K) soon after the group killed 18 Army personnel in Assam.

At least six Islamic State militants were killed, he said. The petroleum guards were also battling Islamic State militants at the nearby town of Nofaliyeh, he said.

Habre’s rise from war specialist to dictator

MAY 31 2016

A DESERT warfare specialist, Chad’s Hissene Habre seized power in 1982 and quickly embraced the role of remorseless dictator, with brutal repression the hallmark of his eight-year reign of terror.

Often dressed in combat fatigues that complemented his "desert fighter" nickname, Habre fled to Senegal after he was ousted by Chad’s current President Idriss Deby in 1990.

Now 73, Habre’s rule was marked by fierce crackdowns on dissent, including torture and executions of opponents, earning him comparisons to Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Habre was handed a life prison sentence in his trial in Dakar for crimes against humanity, war crimes and torture yesterday.

Moroccan BDS Calls On Muslims to Boycott Israeli Dates during Ramadan

MAY 31 2016

The upcoming Islamic fasting month of Ramadan is stirring up a vibrant debate in the Arab world regarding the Israeli date, which is popularly consumed by Muslims during the holy month.

The Moroccan BDS movement has recently launched a new campaign that calls on Moroccans not to consume the Israeli-produced Medjool dates, which flood Middle Eastern markets.

In a statement the anti-Israel movement issued to mark the launch of the campaign, the local activists appeared to try to reassure their countrymen of the origin of the date species. The statement claimed that the Medjool dates were in fact grown on Moroccan trees that had been stolen by Israel. They alleged that Israel has changed the genetics of these trees and planted them in "stolen lands...just like the Argan tree which was also uprooted by Israel and replanted in the Negev."

America Must Save Muslims Facing Death by Extremists

May 30, 2016

I had the most amazing experience last Friday.

Ever since The New York Times first published the story of the couple who came to be known as the Afghani Romeo and Juliet, a young couple named Zakia and Mohammed Ali, who simply wanted to marry each other and then faced an honour killing, I have endeavoured, together with philanthropist Dr. Miriam Adelson, to help save the couple’s lives.

A word about Miriam. Along with Rod Nordland, whom I’ll discuss in a moment, she is one of the true heroes of this incredible story.

Meet Khalid Latif, a One-Man Crusade to Fight Bigotry and Oppression Facing Muslims in America

May 30, 2016

On the morning of the September 11 World Trade Centre attacks in 2001, Khalid Latif was an 18-year-old undergraduate at New York University. During one of several campus evacuations that day, at the top of his dormitory stairway, Latif felt a forceful shove on his shoulders. Turning around, he faced the anger-stricken face of a fellow student who had attempted to push him down the stairs. Latif had already heard students voicing anti-Muslim sentiments that morning, and says he believes his visible identity as a Muslim made him a target.

Now 33 and one of the nation’s most outspoken Muslim leaders, Latif says he knew that day that life for Muslims in America would never be the same. Today, as chaplain and director of the Islamic Centre at NYU, Latif says he has seen anti-Muslim sentiment surge in this election cycle to a level unmatched since 9/11.
