'Marathi
Muslim' article in Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamana': BJP calls it politics of
appeasement

--------------
The
Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday accused the Shiv Sena (UddhavBalasaheb
Thackeray) of indulging in the politics of appeasement after the latter's
mouthpiece 'Saamana' carried an article on "Marathi Muslims"
supporting the former chief minister.
'Saamana'
carried a front-page article on October 22 about the Marathi Muslim Seva Sangh
backing Uddhav Thackeray, adding that the outfit is active in Mumbai, Konkan,
Marathwada, Vidarbha and western Maharashtra.
"The
Shiv SenaUddhavBalasaheb Party wants to garner Marathi and Muslim votes, but it
cleverly played with the words by calling them Marathi Muslims," Mumbai
BJP president Ashish Shelar said at a press conference.
He
said his party would organise 'JagarMumbaicha Yatra' in November to spread
awareness among the residents of the metropolis about this "politics of
appeasement" as well as "corruption" in the Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation.
Shelar
said Thackeray was getting frustrated as he was staring at defeat in the BMC
polls. The city's civic body, currently under an administrator after the terms
of corporators ended, has been ruled by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena for
several years now.
This
is appeasement. Balasaheb (Thackeray) never believed in garnering votes in the
name of religion and caste. Why did you (Uddhav) ditch this? Why do you have to
seek votes in the name of caste and religion, Shelar questioned.
"Then
why can't you (Uddhav) have Marathi Jains, Marathi north Indians? Why the
fissure between Marathi and Gujarati? Why did you quit Marathi Hindu? Shelar
added.
Asserting
that the BJP stood for "Marathi-Mumbaikar", Shelar said his party
will not ask for votes in the name of caste and religion but in the name of
development.
Shelar
also labelled former state environment minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader
Aditya Thackeray's tour of rain-affected areas in Maharashtra as "teaser
and tokenism".
The
BJP leader questioned why farm loans were not cleared by the previous Maha
Vikas Aghadi despite assurances.

Islamic
extremists cannot be ‘left to linger’ in Mozambique
October
30, 2022
Insurgents in Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique have advanced southwards, with military forces meant to repel them hampered by logistical efforts, limited intelligence and understaffing.
The
spread of the insurgents comes amid military efforts by the Southern African
Development Community (SADC), Rwanda and Mozambique to combat it. The South
African National Defence Force (SANDF) is the largest contributor to SADC’s
operation in Mozambique, known as the Southern African Development Community
Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).
Since
July, the insurgents have gained an estimated 134km of territory towards
Nampula, south of Cabo Delgado, west towards Niassa, and north into
neighbouring Tanzania.
Risk
analyst Jasmine Opperman says the expansion must serve as a warning to all
regional states. “The Islamic State is presenting itself in its most brutal
form in Cabo Delgado, unknown to the region prior to Cabo Delgado and the
insurgency.
“Once
the Islamic State gets a footprint within a specific territorial area, it
seldom gets pushed out of it,” she said, referencing Iraq and Syria.
But
there was a greater concern about Alu-Sunnah walJama’ah — locally called
al-Shabaab or Mashabab — than the Islamic State and violence “could easily
spread to other parts of Mozambique and countries in Southern Africa”,
according to an August study by the Institute for Security Studies and the
Judicial Training Institute of Mozambique.
The
study said the insurgency was the result of poor governance, valuable natural
resources such as minerals, endemic corruption and political exclusion. It
added: “It is observed that the escalation and sustenance of terrorism in Cabo
Delgado are the result of intertwined foreign and domestic factors, which are
evolving with the conflict.

Dearborn
divisions over LGBTQ books spur national debate as candidates compete for votes

----------
Conflict
in Dearborn over LGBTQ books in public schools has drawn national attention
among Muslims as liberals and conservatives clash over differing views on
religion while political candidates in Michigan campaign in the diverse Detroit
suburb.
Amid
concern about negative perceptions of the city, Dearborn City Council voted 5-1
Tuesday night to approve a resolution introduced by Councilman Mustapha Hammoud
affirming that Dearborn is a welcoming place open to all and does not
discriminate against anyone, including on the basis of sexual orientation and
gender identity. Councilman Ken Paris opposed the resolution, calling it
repetitive. Also last week, a liberal Islamic group, Muslims for Progressive
Values, issued a statement expressing support for queer Muslims in Dearborn and
criticizing another Muslim group that's more socially conservative, the Council
on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Michigan, for supporting the protesters.
"My
goal is always to affirm that the city of Dearborn welcomes everyone and will
not stand for discrimination against any groups or people," Hammoud told
the Free Press. "This moment was important based on the national and
international media coverage, to show our community will always uphold state
and federal laws."
Over
the past month, there have been three events in Dearborn where protesters, many
expressing anti-gay views with signs and remarks, demonstrated against Dearborn
Public Schools for not banning certain books and LGBTQ materials in classrooms.
About 1,000 jammed Stout Middle School for an Oct. 13 board meeting during
which LGBTQ speakers were jeered. Most of the protesters were Arab American
Muslims, joined by some white conservative Christians who have helped initiate
the movement. So far, the district has pulled six books for review, several of
which have LGBTQ themes.
WadeeaAlzabah,
22, a Dearborn resident, holds a sign that reads "If Democracy matters
we're the majority," inside the Dearborn Schools Administrative Service
Center during the Dearborn Board of Education meeting in Dearborn on Oct. 10,
2022.
Protest
leaders have become increasingly outspoken this month, telling Dearborn
residents to vote Republican and attacking Democrats who oppose the protests,
such as Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit,
who is running to represent Dearborn. A video posted Oct. 21 by one of the
protest leaders, Hassan Chami, urging people not to vote for Tlaib has been
retweeted thousands of times. There have been concerns expressed by longtime
Arab American leaders that the GOP is stirring up religious extremism and
promoting far right preachers in Dearborn; Republicans and the protesters
counter that they're about protecting the children and are not targeting gay
people.
Statewide
Democratic and Republican candidates have flocked to Dearborn over the past
couple of weeks to speak to Arab American voters. The city is about 47% Arab
American, census data shows. On Thursday night, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and
Attorney General Dana Nessel, both of whom have been criticized by the
protesters, spoke in Dearborn at the annual dinner of the Arab American
American Political Action Committee (AAPAC). The Republican nominee for
Attorney General Matthew DePerno and Republican nominee for Secretary of State
Kristina Karamo have also visited Dearborn over the past week trying to win
over voters upset with Democrats. Republican candidate for governor Tudor Dixon
plans to rally Sunday in Dearborn at Fairlane Banquet Center along with former
congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
Last
Friday, a group of Muslim voters from Dearborn attended a rally for Dixon in
Flat Rock. One of them, Khalil Othman, declared to the crowd that he has
switched from Democrat to Republican over the books issue.
"It's
all due to the the sexually explicit books and content in our schools,"
Othman, a father of five, told the Free Press. "The whole Democratic
establishment and leadership stayed silent and quiet and left the parents
alone, fighting the issue. ... That was a red line for me."

Scores
of Israeli settlers break into Al-Aqsa Mosque
30-10-2022
JERUSALEM,
Sunday, October 30, 2022 (WAFA) – Scores of police-guarded Israeli settlers
today broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem in groups
and performed rituals throughout its courtyards, according to witnesses.
Witnesses
told WAFA that scores of Israeli settlers entered the compound through the
Moroccan Gate in groups and performed rituals and Talmudic prayers there under
the protection of Israeli police officers.
Since
2003, the Israeli occupation authorities have allowed settlers into the
compound almost on a daily basis, with the exception of Fridays and Saturdays,
in a breach of the status quo at the holy site.
Last
month alone, 4,426 Israeli settlers made their way into the holy site and
prayed there, in violation of the historic status quo and signed agreements
banning non-Muslim prayers at the holy site.
Israel
captured East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa Mosque is located, during the Six-Day
War in 1967 in a move never recognized by the international community.

Mosque
Explosion in Afghan Capital Injures 7 People
By
SaqalainEqbal
29
Oct 2022
The
Taliban security authorities said that an explosion that took place at a mosque
in Kabul, the Afghan capital, resulted in the injuries of 7 people.
-----------
The
spokesperson of the Taliban police chief office in Kabul, Khalid Zadran, said
that the explosion took place at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday,
October 28, in the Sheikh Mohammad Rohani Mosque.
The
explosion took place in Kabul city’s 5th police district as worshippers
gathered at the mosque for Friday prayer and dhikr, according to Taliban
security official, Zadran.
While
the Taliban officials stated that the explosion injured 7 people, local sources
in Kabul reported that at least 10 people were injured as a result of the
detonation of the explosives at the mosque.
This
explosion has not yet been attributed to any specific person or organization.
The deadliest attacks, however, in Kabul, Kunduz, Balkh, Kandahar, Herat, and
Nangarhar provinces of Afghanistan, have been claimed by the Khorasan branch of
ISIS.
Even
though the Taliban has been in power for more than 14 months, despite their
officials’ repeated promises to ensure general security, various regions in
Afghanistan have been the scene of fatal attacks.

K-P
govt to solarize 9,000 more mosques
Our
Correspondent

--------
PESHAWAR:Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
(K-P) government has solarized 6,500 masajids across the province while
conversion of 9,000 more mosques to solar energy has been in the pipe- line
which will be completed soon.
The
provincial government, for the first time in the history of the province, has
also started an honorarium for Muslim clerics as well minority religious
scholars.
This
was claimed by K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, adding that his government has
taken pragmatic steps for public welfare as per Imran Khan’s vision for the
establishment of a social welfare state, adding that the ultimate goal of the
efforts and struggle over the years is to contribute to the national economy
and provide people of K-P easy access to basic services.
In
a statement issued here from Chief Minister Secretariat regarding the reforms
and transformation strategy of his government, the chief minister said that PTI
has emerged as the only political party that is representative of Pakistanis
and stands for their rights.
The
provincial government has proved this by taking practical steps over the last
four years which have resulted in significant improvement in the overall
service delivery system in the province.
Mahmood
Khan said that the major public welfare steps of the government include Sehat
Card Plus, uniform academic curriculum, revamping and rehabilitation of
healthcare centres, establishment of service delivery centres, provision of
honorarium to clerics and religious leaders of minorities, launching of Insaf
Food Card, reforms introduced in patwar system, solarization of mosques,
improvement
in the communication network all over the province and many other initiatives
under the good governance strategy of the provincial government.
He
added that the incumbent provincial government has worked beyond its capacity
for the welfare of the public and never compromised on its manifesto regarding
investment in human development despite multiple challenges.
It
is pertinent to mention here that under the Sehat Card Plus scheme, free
treatment facilities for various diseases are available to 9.6 million families
of the province, which is a milestone achievement towards Imran Khan’s vision
for the establishment of a welfare state.
Since
the rollout of the Sehat Card initiative, over 1.4 million people have availed
free treatment facilities whereas expensive treatments like liver and kidney
transplants have also been covered under the Sehat Card to reduce the burden on
patients.
Moreover,
free cochlear implants have also been introduced under which 127 children from
different districts of the province will receive treatment.
Around
Rs1.8 million will be spent on each patient suffering from the said disease. In
order to ensure provision of civic facilities to citizens at their doorstep,
service delivery centres and citizen facilitation centres have been established
where multiple services including issuance of fard and domicile have been made
online.
Additionally,
the incumbent provincial government is working on the rehabilitation and
upgradation of existing schools alongside the establishment of new schools to
provide uniform education opportunities to people across the province.
In
addition to this, the government is also establishing model schools where
students will be imparted both traditional and religious education.

Thousands

In
a small, darkened office in Budaun, where dusty legal books line the walls, two
lawyers have fallen into a squabble. VP Singh and his taller associate BP Singh
– no relation – are discussing Shamsi Jama Masjid, the mosque that has stood in
this small town in Uttar Pradesh for 800 years.
According
to the lawyers, this grand white-domed mosque, one of the largest and oldest in
India, is not a mosque at all. “No no, this is a Hindu temple,” asserted BP
Singh. “It’s a very holy place for Hindus.”
Records
dating back to 1856 make reference to the working mosque, and according to
local Muslims, they have been praying there undisturbed since it was built by
Shamsuddin Iltutmish, a Muslim king, in 1223. The Singhs however, have a

Madhya

Khargone
(Madhya Pradesh): An organisation with an Urdu name, a plan to set up community
places by flattening rocky land, and the “fear of Muslims” — men linked to a
Hindutva outfit in Madhya Pradesh bought 200 acres of land allegedly using a
mix of development and communal stereotypes.
The
people who sold them the land on the outskirts of Khargone town in the 2000s —
most of them small farmers — have approached the police for an inquiry, as a
housing colony is now taking shape in the area. They say they feel cheated as
they sold the land "because we were told it'd become a Muslim area".
The
group currently headed by a Ranjeet Singh Dandir, a leader of the ruling BJP,
went from being “Tanzeem-e-Zarkhez” to “Professor PC Mahajan Foundation” in
2007 after the deals were done. Its officials deny any trickery.

Iran's
Guards head warns protesters: 'Today is last day of riots'
October
30, 2022
DUBAI,
Oct 29 (Reuters) - The head of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards warned
protesters that Saturday would be their last day of taking to the streets, in
the clearest sign that security forces may intensify their already fierce
crackdown on widespread unrest.
Iran
has been gripped by protests since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman
MahsaAmini in the custody of the morality police last month, posing one of the
boldest challenges to the clerical leadership since the 1979 revolution.
"Do
not come to the streets! Today is the last day of the riots," Guards
commander Hossein Salami said in some of the toughest language used in the
crisis, which Iran's leaders blame on its foreign enemies including Israel and
the United States.

Rushdie:
US sanctions Iran-based group
By
Daily Excelsior
30/10/2022
Washington,
Oct 29 : The United States has announced sanctions against an Iranian
foundation accused of putting out a multimillion-dollar bounty on
British-American author Salman Rushdie, who was stabbed at a literary event in
New York state in August. The US Treasury Department announced sanctions
against the 15 Khordad Foundation on Friday, Al Jazeera reported. The sanctions
freeze any US-based assets the foundation may have and generally prevent
Americans from carrying out transactions with it. “Since Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s
order pronouncing a death sentence on Rushdie in February 1989, 15 Khordad
Foundation has committed millions of dollars to anyone willing to carry out
this heinous act,” the department said in a news release. “Since putting its
bounty on Rushdie, the 15 Khordad Foundation, which is affiliated with the
Supreme Leader, has raised the reward for targeting the author,” it said. “The
infamous fatwa was intended to incite terrorism and violence, bring about the
death of Rushdie and his associates, and intimidate others,” Al Jazeera quoted
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken as saying. “The United States condemns
such incitement and the attack on Rushdie in the strongest terms as a blatant
assault on freedom of speech and an act of terrorism.” The knife attack on
Rushdie two months ago resulted in an outpouring of support and calls to
safeguard freedom of expression as well as criticism of the Iranian government
for its history of encouraging violence against Rushdie. Khomeini, who was then
Iran’s supreme leader, issued a fatwa calling for Rushdie’s assassination in
1989 over the publication of his book ‘The Satanic Verses’, which some Muslims
believed to be blasphemous, the report said. The Iranian government later
distanced itself from the call to kill Rushdie, who spent years in hiding due
to threats against his life, but Tehran never lifted the edict calling for his
assassination. Khomeini’s successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was suspended from
Twitter in 2019 for saying the fatwa again

Amsterdam
mayor scraps LGBTI+ statement after backlash from mosques
29
OCTOBER 2022
Amsterdam
Mayor FemkeHalsema has canceled the planned statement of support for the LGBTI+
community that she asked local mosques to sign earlier in the month. This was a
response to criticism from mosque leaders, who believed the mayor's request
specifically singled out the Islamic community, according to AT5.
The
statement of support against violence toward LGBTI+ community members was sent
to several mosques in Amsterdam. The Blue Mosque called the statement
"absurd, discriminatory and accusatory." Prominent mosques in
Amsterdam said they would not sign the statement because they felt it
stigmatized their religion.
"It's
not going through, it's that simple. I canceled it," Halsema told AT5
about the statement. "Because it wasn't a political statement for me. I
don't feel the need to push this in people's face in any other way. That was
not the intention."

Caucasus
Muslims Office condemns Iranian FM's statement made in Armenian Kapan
29
October 2022
BAKU,
Azerbaijan, October 29. The Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) resolutely condemns
Iranian foreign minister's speech made in Armenia's Kapan and demands to
retract the statement, Trend reports via the CMO.
The
CMO made the remark regarding the threatening statements of Iran and military
drills carried out along the border with Azerbaijan.
"Since
the 2020 Karabakh War, Azerbaijan has demonstrated its clear intention to
develop political and economic ties with neighboring countries to ensure
regional peace and cooperation. However, Azerbaijan's good intentions are often
perceived negatively and completely misinterpreted. This is especially evident
in relation with neighboring Iran. As far as Azerbaijan is a secular,
law-governed and democratic state, it's the responsibility of officials to
express an opinion on political and economic issues. As for theocratic Iran,
the religious community of the country is responsible for commenting on
political events. Thus, as the religious center of Azerbaijan, we regard as a
duty to express our attitude toward religious-spiritual realities," the
CMO noted.

The
Neo-Nazi obsessed with 'Islamic State' who almost beheaded a dentist in a North

By

OCT 2022
Neo-Nazi
and "Islamic State" obsessed Zack Davies' attempt to behead a dentist
out shopping at a North Wales Tesco was an attack so horrific as to be almost
beyond belief. Isis murderer Jihadi John was an “inspiration” to the would-be
killer who launched a racist machete attack on an Dr SarandevBhambra at Tesco's
superstore in Mold in January 2015.
His
sickening, hate-fuelled actions will never be forgotten in North Wales but the
far-right fanatic - who admitted saying things such as "White Power"
and "I did it for Lee Rigby" has re-entered wide public
consciousness. ITV's The Walk-In - which stars award-winning actor Stephen
Graham - dramatised the terrifying incident and highlighted the seriousness of
the the threat of right-wing terrorism in Britain.

Sudanese

3,000 protesters in Khartoum on Saturday rejected UN mediation efforts between

For

I thought a lot about America’s religious diversity. Then I heard a Muslim call

Consider
these names: Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, James
Madison, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton. The European founders of the 1776
generation. The men who put the furniture in the room, as the saying goes. On
many dimensions of identity they made mistakes, even committed sins. But with
respect to religious identity and diversity, they came pretty close to getting
it right.
Washington
told a Jewish leader that the United States would give bigotry no sanction and
persecution no assistance, that the children of the stock of Abraham would be
free to sit under their own vine and fig and there would be none to make them
afraid.
Franklin
made personal donations to every established religious group in Philadelphia
and helped build a large hall in that city, declaring that the pulpit should be
open to preachers of any persuasion.

Brazilian
voters go to the polls on Sunday in a tense election to choose between
re-electing far-right President Jair Bolsonaro or returning leftist former
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to office.
Bolsonaro
has vowed to consolidate a sharp conservative turn in Brazilian politics after

environmental responsibility, recalling the rising prosperity of his 2003-2010
presidency, before corruption scandals tarred his Workers Party.
Some
120 million voters are expected to punch their choices into electronic voting
machines that Bolsonaro has criticised without proof as fraud-prone, raising
concern he may not concede defeat, following the example of ideological ally,
former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Imran’s
absence from march fuels guessing game
Mansoor
Malik
October
30, 2022
LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s sudden disappearance from
the party’s long march, soon after the sunset and party’s Secretary General
Asad Umar announcing that Mr Khan has left for Lahore to attend a “very
important meeting”, left the media and the participants speculating.
Earlier,
the march had begun its second, but brief, leg from Shahdara with Mr Khan
continuing to hit out at two spy agency officers he has been referring to as
“Dirty Harry”, called them “savage” and demanded the army chief investigate
them.
PTI
leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid denied the party
chief had left for any meeting and insisted it was a pre-decided SOP that the
march would not move in the dark owing to “security reasons”.

No
relief for Adiala jail juveniles despite IHC order
Zaki
Abbas
October
30, 2022
ISLAMABAD:
Days after the directives of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) chief justice for
the immediate release of children detained in Adiala jail, the human rights
ministry has failed to end the incarceration of the under-trial juvenile
prisoners “for lack of funds to submit surety bonds”, Dawn has learnt.
The
nine minors aged 10 to 15, arrested for petty crimes, are still languishing in
the barracks at Adiala as “the ministry has no money to pay their surety
bonds”.
During
the hearing on Monday, the high court had directed the government to make
arrangements for immediate release of under-trial minors in the light of an
inquiry report submitted by the National Commission of Human Rights (NCHR) on
Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.

40pc
children stunted, 2.5m acutely malnourished: WHO
Kalbe

October
30, 2022
ISLAMABAD:
Over 40pc of children aged five and below in Pakistan are stunted whereas 2.5
million children are “severely wasted” — acutely malnourished — according to
the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Pakistan
was one of the first countries to adopt the global Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) to achieve a 40pc reduction in childhood stunting and maintain
childhood “wasting” below 5pc. However, little progress has been made towards
achieving these targets.
Around
6-8pc of school-going children below 10 years of age were obese or overweight
due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy diets, Dr PalithaMahipala, WHO’s
representative to Pakistan said during a conference on Thursday. “Our lifestyle
has been changed in recent years and due to that we are seeing more and more
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).”

Legal

Nasir

October
30, 2022
ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has expressed ‘shock’ over Supreme Court’s
directions to PTI chief Imran Khan’s two counsel, requiring them to answer the
federal government’s allegations that they had breached their undertakings
about party marchers not reaching D-Chowk on May 25.
In
a statement issued on Saturday, PBC Vice Chairman Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry and
its Executive Committee Chairman Pir Mohammad Masood Chishti regretted that
both the counsel — Babar Awan and Faisal Fareed — had appeared before the apex
court on May 25 to assist it “to the best of their experience and ability
during very odd circumstances”.
The
PBC said the council, being the parent body of the legal profession, urged the
Supreme Court to withdraw this requirement of furnishing replies.

“traitor”, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin denied being one today and offered his
version of the political chess play that saw him part ways with Tun Dr Mahathir
Mohamad.
The

out of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition back when the latter was its
chairman.
Muhyiddin
said he needed to step forward and issued his own clarifications over Dr
Mahathir's remark that he was willing to forgive him for claiming Muhyiddin had
“stabbed him in the back” to correct the “skewed” perception others had of him.
