19th March 2023
KOCHI: Though the Muslim League is a communal party,
it is a democratic organisation and they don’t support extremism, said
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Pranta Sanghchalak K K Balaram and Pranta
Karyavah P N Eswaran in Kochi on Saturday.
Briefing media persons on the decisions of the
national executive of the RSS held at
Samalkha in the Panipat district of Haryana from March 12 to 14, the
leaders said the RSS is ready to hold healthy debates with all organisations
other than extremist and anti-national forces.
“There was no discussion with Jamaat-e-Islami. A
delegation of Islamic scholars had met RSS leaders in New Delhi and there was a
leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in the delegation. We are open to discussions with
any organisations that support nationalism and oppose extremism. Recently we
held discussions with a few Muslim leaders in the Malappuram district including
a sitting MLA of the Muslim League. The visit to the MLA’s office was part of
our Jan Sampark programme,” said Easwaran.
He said the RSS has different approaches towards
Jamaat-e-Islami and Muslim League. “We are open towards IUML because we don’t
believe that they have extremist views. The League leaders with whom we
interacted said they don’t support extremism. If the Jamaat-e-Islami changes
its policy, we are ready for talks with them also. We are always open for
discussions and Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat had attended three events
conducted by Muslim organisations last year,” said Easwaran.
Balaram said the RSS has been able to remove the
scepticism among Christian communities which helped in having healthy debates
with them. “We have a robust system for discussions with Christian communities
at the state level and the district level. The Christian community itself has
come forward for discussion and we interacted with many bishops recently,” he
said.
Regarding the chances of the BJP in Kerala, the RSS
leaders said vote bank politics have posed hurdles to the BJP in improving its
support base. Kerala is in the grip of coalition politics and even neutral
voters are forced to support either of the two fronts.
Revealing the decisions of the Samalkha meeting, the
leaders said the aim is to improve the number of Sakhas from 68,631 to one lakh
during the centenary celebrations which will start on Vijayadasami day in 2025.
The number of Sakhas in Kerala will be increased from
5,359 to 8,000. Training programmes will be held at four places in Kerala
to inspire the workers. Case studies of
development in Budhannur village in Alappuzha district and Thiruvallur in
Thrissur district were discussed in the national meeting. A special scheme for
comprehensive development will be implemented in villages where the RSS has
more than 100 swayamsevaks, the leaders said.

19 Mar 2023
Kuala Lumpur, March 19 — Issues pertaining to approval
of the use of cannabis for medical purposes in the country require in-depth
research and discussion, including from the aspect of controlling the use of
the substance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said this is taking into account the number of drug
addicts among young people, including in rural areas, which is increasing and
reaching hundreds of thousands today.
“Have patience, we need to look into this very
carefully, we have to remember that as soon as we legalise (cannabis) on the
back of strong reasons such as for medical purposes and necessity, control
could prove difficult... I am not saying that I have a hardline view on the
matter, but I have proposed we open this for discussion and look into the
implications.
“For those who support or object, let’s have an
overview in terms of its implication and then decide whether to legalise some
parts or completely allow it, or continue with what we are practising now,” he
said when answering a question from the floor at the “Meet Anwar’ youth dialogue
at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Anwar said Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation
Department director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay had also given him an
overview of the serious problems being dealt with in relation to the issue of
drug abuse in the current situation.

Rio Claro Imam Laments As 15 Family Members In ISIS
Feared Dead
Imam Nazim Mohammed/ Photo:
Rishi Ragoonath
----
Shaliza Hassanali
19-03-2023
15 members of Rio Claro imam Nazim Mohammed’s family
members–including his son, grandchildren and in-laws–who went to the Islamic
State to become ISIS fighters are likely dead.
Since secretly leaving Trinidad between 2015 and 2018
to join the extremist group, Mohammed has not received any word from his
relatives, he said.
“You could imagine three 0’clock in the morning I get
a phone call from my grandson who was held by the Iraq authorities indicating
all who get killed. This one get killed and that one get killed,” Mohammed, 82,
lamented as he spoke to the Sunday Guardian recently.
Aneesa’s husband, Daud Waheed, 61, together with his
daughters’ three husbands, Shuab Hasib, Curtis Rapsey Williams and Umar Rabby
Kumar, cannot be found.
In 2018, the US Treasury Department blacklisted
another one of Waheed’s sons-in-law Emraan Ali, 56, and Eddie Aleong, a
national, on suspicion of financing ISIS. Ali, a financier of ISIS, was married
to another one of Mohammed’s granddaughters Shaloma who both went to Syria in
2015. Five years later, no one knows where the Alis are.
Insisting that his loved ones did not inform him of
their plans to join ISIS, Mohammed said he had no personal connection to the
terror group.
Mohammed said Aneesa–his firstborn, her husband, Daud,
and their three daughters, Aidah, Azizah and Sabirah along with their husbands
were the first to go to Iraq.
In Iraq, the death penalty is imposed on people found
guilty of terrorism, murder, treason, espionage and war crimes. Hanging is the
common method of execution.
Mohammed said with his daughter and granddaughters
imprisoned, Daud’s son Masood, his wife, and their twin daughters also went to
Syria, but they too have not been located.
Among those who have also gone missing in Syria are
Mohammed’s granddaughter Sumiyah, her husband Akeil and their 14-year-old son,
Samir. He feared the worst as the death penalty in Syria is usually carried out
by hanging.
Mohammed said his son Musab Mohammed followed his
sister (Aneesa) but was picked up by Iraqi forces after he tried to sneak into
the country.
Musab was accompanied by his wife, Cassie
Bissoon-Mohammed. They too have disappeared. “We heard Musab was executed,”
Mohammed said.
Mohammed was married to two women who have departed.
His first wife, Salima Mohammed, 78, who gave birth to five children, died of a
massive heart attack three years ago. She was Aneesa and Musab’s mother. His
second wife, who gave birth to two children, died of health complications in
2015.
Mohammed came to the conclusion that Musab’s death
could have taken Salima prematurely to her grave as she agonised over his
killing.
Asked how he found out about the family members,
Mohammed said the Islamic State authorities did not inform them. “We got
information from inside,” and also from his grandson Masood who also cannot be
accounted for.
Mohammed, who heads the Masjid Umar Ibn Khattab Jamaat
in Boos Village, Rio Claro, shot into the spotlight in 2016 when he vehemently
denied being an ISIS recruiter.
In his sea of loss, Mohammed consoled himself saying,
“This is Allah’s programme. You see, we are Muslims and we believe everything
happens by the will of Allah. If they have to die there or come back here all
of that rests in the hands of Allah.
“In this world, it is just a passing through. We will
die one day, and we have to return to our Lord. We have to give God an account.
There is a day of judgment, this is not the real life.”
He said Aneesa and her three daughters have repeatedly
written the Government of T&T asking to return home but never got a
response. They have also penned letters to the United Nations.
“The Red Cross would visit them in their camps in
Iraq. The last letter I got was several months ago. They complained that during
winter the weather was very difficult for them as they are not provided with
any woolen clothing and had to fend for themselves.”
Mohammed pleaded with the Government to help bring
back his daughter and granddaughters and other nationals locked in two camps in
Northeast Syria.
On March 7, Human Rights Watch (HRW) counter-terrorism
association director Letta Tayler disclosed the number of T&T nationals
detained in Syria at the launch of its 2023 report entitled “T&T: Bring
Home Nationals from Syria” during a press conference.
he disclosed that children have died in tent fires,
drowned in sewage pits, and killed by water trucks. Hundreds have also died
from treatable illnesses.
Responding to the HRW, Foreign and Caricom Affairs
Minister Dr Amery Browne said the Government has been working on repatriating
our nationals.

Human Rights Commission asks security forces to vacate
school, college buildings in Swat
Our Correspondent
March 19, 2023
SWAT: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan chairperson
Hina Jilani has asked the security forces to vacate the buildings of schools
and colleges in Swat immediately and also shut the ‘illegal prisons’ in the district.
Addressing a news conference at the Swat Press Club on
Saturday, she pointed out that no information was being given to the relatives
of those, who had died in the ‘illegal prisons’.
The mission comprised Hina Jilani, the commission’s
vice-chairman for KP Akbar Khan, and HRCP members Jamila Gillani and Prof Ijaz
Khan. The team spoke to a range of civil society members, journalists, lawyers,
and district administration officials in Bannu, Peshawar, Khyber and Swat,
according to a statement.
HRCP members Prof Ijaz, Barrister Sher Mohammad Khan,
Ms Gillani, Akbar Khan and Maryam Rao were also present at the press
conference.
At the presser, Ms Jilani said the current political
situation in Pakistan was very alarming, where common people were suffering from
severe problems and institutions were not fulfilling their role.
Commenting on Pakistan’s current political situation,
she said institutions had become so weak that everyone challenged them openly.
“It is responsibility of the civil institutions to improve the political
situation. Even the Supreme Court never gave such a weak impression which it
gives these days,” she said, adding the civil institutions should play their
role according to the Constitution.
Ms Jilani said economy was on the verge of destruction,
where common people were faced with multiple difficulties. She said political
leaders dissolved assemblies at their whims without any solid reason, adding
Rs35 billion were required for holding elections in Punjab, which could best be
spent on people’s welfare. She said presently there were no assemblies in two
provinces, while the National Assembly was incomplete.
Ms Jilani said HRCP appreciated the resolve of Swat
people against the new wave of militancy. She said HRCP was deeply concerned
about the forced disappearance of people and demanded the missing persons be
shown and presented in courts if they were guilty of any crime.
She also showed concern over the ‘extrajudicial
killings’ and said HRCP strongly condemned the illegal act. She reiterated the
commission would continue to play its role in safeguarding human rights in the
country.
Meanwhile, the HRCP fact-finding report observed
widespread frustration among residents of the merged districts with the state
for its ‘failure’ to honour the pledge to integrate these areas with the rest
of the province by securing people’s civil, political, social and economic
rights under the Constitution.
The report said the mission was concerned over undue
delays in the transfer of power to the civil administrations and elected
representatives in western KP following the 25th Constitutional Amendment in
2018.
While the report acknowledged some progress made on
making basic facilities and fundamental rights available to the merged region
the progress had been slow.
The report said the HRCP was concerned about
resurgence of militancy in KP, compounded by reports of extrajudicial killings
and enforced disappearances. “The continued presence and control of security
forces in the newly-merged districts appear to have undermined the authority of
the local government and civil administration,” it said, highlighting continued
restrictions on freedom of movement and speech. The mission was also troubled
by continued reports of enforced disappearances, custodial deaths and persons
going ‘missing’ from internment centres.
“HRCP welcomes the recent local government elections,
but observes that the effectiveness of this system has been compromised by lack
of funds released to elected representatives, many of whom have complained they
lack even a workspace. HRCP is alarmed by allegations that the funds that
should have been transferred to the local authorities for the merger and
subsequent development schemes have either been siphoned off as a result of
corruption or diverted to other regions,” the report said.
The mission was particularly moved by the spirit of
resistance that residents of the region have continued to display in the shape
of Ulasi Pasoon [the people’s uprising], making it clear they are not willing
to tolerate militancy any longer.
The process of restoring law and order in the
newly-merged districts, albeit slow, is visible in the form of robust policies
for police reforms and capacity building. Above all, HRCP was pleased to
observe a robust political mobilisation among the youth of the newly-merged
districts, who have no qualms in exercising their constitutional right to
freedom of expression and peaceful assembly by making legitimate demands of the
state, the report highlighted.

Bihar Govt Relaxes Duty Hours For Muslims For Ramzan,
BJP Protests
Mar 19, 2023
PATNA: Bihar’s Grand Alliance government has allowed
relaxation in duty hours for Muslim employees during the holy month of Ramzan,
prompting strong reactions from opposition BJP which claimed it was a “first”
for the state and asked why Hindus weren’t given similar facilities in
festivals like Ramnavami.
However, Friday’s circular allowing the one-hour relaxation
in entry and exit timings for Muslim staff said the order was, in fact, passed
in December 2000.
“Keeping in view the convenience of Muslim employees
and officials, the government grants them permission to come and leave the
office one hour before the scheduled time during Ramzan,” reads the circular.
The order sent BJP gunning for the Nitish Kumar-led
Grand Alliance government. “If Muslims can get relaxation in duty hours for
Ramzan, why can’t the Hindus be extended similar facilities during Ramnavami?”
state BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal said.

Ramadan 2023: WHO guidelines on healthy fasting
By Tapatrisha Das
19-03-2023
Ramadan 2023: The special time of the year is almost
here. The largest festival of the Islam community is slated to be celebrated.
The holy month of Ramadan of the Islamic calendar is observed by Muslims all
over the country by keeping fast from sunrise till sunset. After a month of
fasting, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated. During Ramadan, Muslims cannot have food
during the time between sunrise and sunset. So, they start their fast by having
a meal before sunrise, and then break their fast after sunset. Traditionally
the breaking of the fast includes having three dates, followed by a feast.
This year, Ramadan will start on March 22 and will end
on April 21, when the crescent moon is observed in the sky. As we gear up to
celebrate a month full of festivities, here’s a look at the fasting guidelines
put forward by World Health Organisation that we must keep in mind in order to
stay healthy throughout the month:
Drinking water: The fasting starts with suhur – a meal
consumed before sunrise, and ends with iftar – the feast consumed to break fast
after sunset. However, in between, we must remember to drink lots of water and
stay hydrated throughout the time, to give body the nutrients that it is
missing out on.

PFI wanted Islamic Rule by waging war against govt:
NIA
By Shishir Gupta
Mar 18, 2023
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charged 19
persons linked to banned PFI, including 12 National Executive Council (NEC)
members, founding members and senior leaders, in its fifth chargesheet in the
case. With the filing of the latest chargesheet, the total number of accused
charged by the National Investigation Agency in PFI cases (Rajasthan, Kerala,
Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Delhi) stands at 105.
The NIA has exposed the nefarious designs of banned
Popular Front of India (PFI) and its sinister motive to establish Caliphate in
India by 2047 through four stages, including weapons training to cadres and
infiltrating police and judiciary. The investigation has revealed that it
espoused an Islamic Caliphate by working under the pretext of national
integration, communal harmony, and welfare of minorities and weaker sections.
The radical Islamists had planned to unveil a new
Constitution based on Shariah law with the help of external forces and organise
physical traning under the guise of Yoga classes. One of the evil designs
exposed by the NIA was to acquire land in Muslim-dominated areas for training
and stock-piling of weapons and explosives.

General Election Supervisory Agency Prohibits
Political Campaigning in Guise of Ramadan Goodwill
19 March 2023
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Supervisory
Agency (Bawaslu) has reminded political parties contesting the 2024 General
Elections to abstain from campaigning while performing good deeds during the
holy month of Ramadan.
"What the Bawaslu prohibits is mixing good deeds
with hidden campaigns," Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty said during a talk
show between the agency and the political parties on Saturday.
"For example, promising to give money or other
material things, whether it is during the campaign period, counting vote
period, or in election silence," she said.
This is because currently, the general election
proceedings are in the phase of political party announcement, wherein people
are being provided details of the number of political parties in the fray, she
explained. The campaign period itself will start on November 28 this year, she
said.

Palestine-Israel talks in Sharm El Sheikh will seek to
abate violence before Ramadan
Kamal Tabikha
Mar 19, 2023
Israeli and Palestinian officials are meeting in the
Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday, seeking to de-escalate tensions
between the sides.
The high-level security talks at the Red Sea resort
city, which are being brokered by regional allies Egypt and Jordan and also the
US, aim to end a year-long bout of violence that has claimed the lives of more
than 200 Palestinians and more than 40 people in Israel.
The meeting is a continuation of the US-brokered talks
hosted by Jordan on February 26 to halt fighting ahead of Ramadan and the
seven-day feast of Passover, an important Jewish holiday that coincides with
the Muslim holy month this year.
Its objectives, as outlined by a communique in
February, are to encourage both sides “to work towards a just and lasting
peace” and “commit to de-escalation on the ground”.

Oman gears up for the Holy Month of Ramadan
18/March/2023
Muscat: The first day of fasting for the Holy Month of
Ramadan in the Sultanate of Oman is likely to be on Thursday (March 23, 2023),
with Oman’s leading astronomical expert saying that “the crescent moon could be
sighted on March 22.”
Astronomical expert Dr. Sabih Al Saadi said: “The
crescent moon will be born on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at exactly 9:24pm (Oman
time) with no sightings of any type being expected that night. However, on the
night of March 22, Wednesday, the new moon should be easily visible to the
naked eye in most of the Sultanate’s governorates and many parts of the Middle
East and North Africa. The first fasting day is thus expected to be March 23,
Thursday, for these countries.”

Israeli, Palestinian Officials to Meet in Egypt in
Attempt to Maintain Calm During Ramadan
Jonathan Lis
Mar 18, 2023
Officials from Israel, the Palestinian Authority,
Egypt, Jordan and the United States are scheduled to hold a meeting on Sunday
in Egypt’s Sharm al-Sheikh, with the goal of promoting calm in the West Bank
and Jerusalem ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which starts this
week.
Why a former U.S. ambassador joined Israel's
pro-democracy protestsording to Israeli sources, the group, which met for the
first time in Aqaba last month, is expected to become a permanent forum holding
regular bridging meetings for calming the security situation between Israel and
the Palestinians, under the auspices of the U.S. and states in the region.
Sunday’s meeting will attempt to reach understandings
that will reduce friction between the sides. Israel is planning to host one of
the next meetings, and has not ruled out the possibility of sending its
representatives to Ramallah if the Palestinian Authority chooses to host one as
well.

Will Israel Get Through Ramadan Safely?
Mar 19, 2023
The Muslim holy month of Ramadan, that begins this
week, has long been prone to unrest for Israel. But now, in the shadow of a
dangerous, recalcitrant government headed by a present-absent prime minister,
Ramadan has become a supreme test of ultranationalism and sovereignty – that
is, a demonstration of Israeli muscle-flexing.
For instance, precisely on the eve of Ramadan, the
government saw fit to decide to continue razing homes in East Jerusalem. It
also began to amend the Disengagement Law so as to permit Israelis to stay in
West Bank settlements evacuated in 2005. The amendment passed the first of
three votes in the Knesset. Finally, a mass march to the illegal settlement
outpost of Evyatar is planned for the intermediate days of Passover, against
“the intent to loosen our grip on the Land of Israel.” Instead of banking the
fire, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is pouring fuel on it.
“Complete insanity and capitulation to terror” is what he termed the custom of
closing the Temple Mount to Jews for the last 10 days of Ramadan.
At a recent closed meeting, defense officials
expressed concern about the multiplying warnings of terror attacks being
planned and, no less, about a few cabinet ministers who are making decisions
without consulting with or even attempting to listen to the opinions of the
heads of the defense establishment. See, for example, the decision to continue
the home demolitions, despite the position of defense officials. (See Yaniv
Kubovich, page 3.)
At a time when Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai
requires the full cooperation of the government to which he reports in order to
see Israel safely through the upcoming month of Jewish and Muslim holiday with
a minimum of terror attacks and losses, he is instead facing a hostile
minister, an extreme ultranationalist, who is concerned primarily about this
own image rather than the serious consequences his failings and rhetoric could
have.

Govt angry over ‘special treatment’ given to ex-PM
Zulqernain Tahir
March 19, 2023
LAHORE: Top PML-N leadership and its allies on
Saturday expressed anger over what they call ‘special treatment’ given to Imran
Khan by courts and they appear to be jittery over their failure in finding
success in their strategy towards their arch rival.
PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz remained busy
throughout the day on social media responding to developments taking place
during the police raid at Mr Khan’s Zaman Park residence and his appearance
before a court in Islamabad.
A good number of PML-N cabinet members held pressers
to justify the police action against Mr Khan and chided his party’s
“hooliganism” at the Islamabad judicial complex.
“If anyone had any doubt, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf
chairman Imran Niazi’s antics of the last few days laid bare his fascist and
militant tendencies. From using people as human shields to throwing petrol
bombs at police to leading ‘jathas’ to intimidate judiciary, he (Imran) has
taken a leaf out of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) book,” PM Shehbaz
said in a tweet.

ISLAMABAD: At a time when political temperatures are

Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice is set to take up two
controversial constitution amendment bills seeking creation of new provinces in
the country.
The two bills, moved by senators belonging to the

Under the Constitution, a two-third majority in both
houses of the parliament is required to carry out an amendment to the
Constitution. The Senate committee members are set to review the bills at a
time when the National Assembly has a total of 217 members in the house, 11

MQM-P stages first ‘power show’ after unification

KARACHI: More than two months after its unification,
the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan on Saturday staged a ‘power show’ at the

The unified party, which is an important part of the
Pakistan Democratic Movement-led coalition government at the Centre, tried its

Plymouth butcher explains why he became a Muslim
By Katie Oborn
19 MAR 2023
Adam Bowden-Black, 47, converted to Islam in 2016. He
was working as a butcher in a halal shop, prior to becoming a Muslim, and one
day a customer he was serving inspired him to find a new faith. Adam now
follows the five pillars of Islam, including praying five times a day and
following Ramadan. Prior to converting, Adam says he was an atheist but had
worked in halal shops since 2013.
Adam explains: “It was basically me thinking, hang on,
all this time, every time I come to work I’m happy and the easiest way of
describing it is that this gives me happiness inside. Before I converted, even
though I’m married and I’ve got two children, there was something missing. When
I converted, I found that missing piece of my life.”
Born in Southall, London but living in Plymouth for
many years, Adam is now a butcher at the Plymouth Butcher Shop, a halal store
in the city’s West End. He’s a popular guy with the customers there, many have
known him for years as he used to run the Costless butchery department in Colin
Campbell Court which was bulldozed last year to make way for a new proposed
health hub. Adam has worked as a butcher for 26 years.

Ramadan is a time for Muslims to reflect, while giving
back to this community
BY SHABBIR MOTORWALA
MARCH 19, 2023
As the holy month of Ramadan begins on March 23,
Muslims around the world will observe a period of fasting, prayer and
reflection. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining
from food, drink and other physical needs. This practice is intended to purify
the soul, increase self-discipline and cultivate a deeper sense of empathy for
those less fortunate. Muslims are also encouraged to engage in acts of charity,
kindness and generosity during the month. While the observance is rooted in
Islamic tradition, it has broader cultural and social significance for Muslims
and non-Muslims alike. Ramadan is a time for increased community engagement, as
Muslims come together to break their fasts and share meals with one another. It
is with this spirit that Muslims invite non-Muslims to visit mosques to observe
Muslims pray and join them in breaking the fast. South Florida Muslims will
have several open houses during the month of Ramadan where our non-Muslims
neighbors and friends can learn about Islamic practice and join us breaking the
fast, followed by dinner. Contact cosmosfla@gmail.com to learn more. It is also
a time for reflection and self-improvement, as individuals strive to be more
patient, giving and compassionate. During Ramadan, Muslims tend to be more
generous in supporting causes that help the community. In South Florida, we
have a free health clinic, UHI Medical Care Clinic, uhicares.org, whose mission
is to provide free healthcare services to the underserved population of South
Florida regardless of ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or
religious and political affiliation. Our food pantries provide food baskets to
needy families. Get unlimited digital access Try 1 month for $1 CLAIM OFFER
While Ramadan is a somber or austere time, observance can be challenging, with
long days of fasting and increased spiritual discipline, it is also a time of
joy and celebration. The end of Ramadan is marked by the festival of Eid
al-Fitr, a time for feasting, gift-giving and expressing gratitude

Pakistan, Afghanistan Authorities Agree To Start
Peshawar-Jalalabad Bus Service
By Saumya joshi
19-03-2023
Pakistan and Afghan authorities have agreed to
initiate the bus service between Peshawar's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and
Jalalabad's Nangarhar province, reported The Express Tribune. The decision to
start the service was taken after a meeting of the Afghanistan International
Co-ordination Cell. The aim of this bus service is to resolve the problems
between the two countries.
The relationship between the two countries has been
put on hold after the Taliban took over control of Afghanistan in August 2021.
The swift takeover by the Taliban came after the United States withdrew its remaining troops
from Afghanistan as outlined in a 2020 peace agreement with the group. Hence,
to revive the relationship between the two countries this bus service has been
initiated.
According to local media reports, both nations have
finalised the agreement for the bus services in their respective provinces.
"The communications ministries of the two countries had given the go-ahead
for the service, agreeing in principle that initially, 15 to 20-seater buses
would ply the route", said one of the sources. In its initial plan,
Afghanistan would establish a bus terminal in Jalalabad and Pakistan at the
Torkham border point.

Friendship Pipeline (IBFP) virtually on Saturday. The pipeline will start a new
chapter in India-Bangladesh ties, Modi said at the inauguration. Currently,
diesel is supplied to Bangladesh through a 512-km rail route. The 131. 5-km
pipeline will supply up to 1 million tonnes per annum of diesel from Numaligarh
in Assam to Bangladesh.
This would not just help save on transportation costs
but also reduce carbon footprint of moving the fuel, Modi said. IBFP is the
first cross border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh with a capacity
to transport 1 Million Metric Ton Per Annum (MMTPA) of High-Speed Diesel (HSD)
to Bangladesh, said the government. It is also only the second cross-border
energy pipeline between India and its neighbours.
