-------------
About
300 Muslims from a north Calcutta neighbourhood worked in shifts to volunteer
outside Durga Puja pandals in the area and help police manage crowds and
traffic from Sashthi till Friday.
Members
of the Belgachhia Aman Committee also set up a camp at the Belgachhia Tram
Depot crossing from where they made announcements, gave directions to Puja
pandals and helped visitors with any help they sought. There were smaller teams
that toured the pandals, spoke to the Puja organisers if they needed any help
and managed traffic.
“Set
up in 1985, the committee’s professed objective is to maintain peace and
communal harmony,” said Shaukat Ali, its general secretary. Ali said that even
a small incident can flare up and destroy the communal fabric of the area and
the committee works through the year to prevent that.“We have been setting up
camps during Durga Puja for several years. We try to help out people who visit
our area. We try to ensure there is no untoward incident during the Puja, which
is why our volunteers visit the pandals and ask the organisers whether they
need any help,” said Ali, a retired schoolteacher.
An
overwhelming majority of the members are Muslims, said Haji Wasim Khan, the
assistant secretary of the committee. Most members and volunteers of the
Committee are drawn from and around the Belgachhiabustee, a Muslim-majority
area. The neighbourhood has a mixed population.
A
little north to the Belgachhia bustee is Kundu Lane and Tallah both are
Hindu-majority areas. The police, too, lend its support to the Committee and
also seek its help. An officer of Ultadanga police station said that the
committee’s volunteers did a fantastic job in working alongside police during
the Puja days. On Vijaya Dashami, the Committee members distributes weets.
In
reciprocation, the Hindus of the area distribute sweets to their Muslim
neighbours on Id, said Prasun Kumar Ghosh, a doctor who lives in the area and
also the vice-chairman of BelgachhiaKendriyaSarbojoninDurgotsab Committee. Jamal
Ahmed, 43, volunteered on Ashtami and Dashami. “People know us and trust us.
Our mere presence is comforting to many,” he said. Belgachhia Aman Committee
was set up at a time frequent clashes between rival gangs were routine.
Gradually such clashes stopped.

Iran:
Students tell President Raisi to 'get lost'
08.10.2022
Thousands
of Iranians have taken to the streets since Amini's death
------------
Students
in Tehran told President Ebrahim Raisi to "get lost" on Saturday, as
protests over Kurdish woman MahsaAmini's death in police custody enter their
fourth week.
Meanwhile,
two people were killed as security forces shot at protesters in the Iranian
Kurdish cities of Sanandaj and Saqez, rights groups said.
Amini,
who died in police custody on September 16, had been arrested by Iran's
"morality police" for allegedly breaching the country's dress code
for women.
On
Friday, Iranian authorities claimed that Amini's death was caused by a
preexisting medical condition and not beatings by police.
"They
imagine they can achieve their evil goals in universities," Iranian TV
reported Raisi as saying. "Unbeknownst to them, our students and
professors are alert and will not allow the enemy to realize their evil
goals."
In
the capital of Iran's Kurdistan province, Sanandaj, one man was shot dead while
driving on a major thoroughfare, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network and the
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said.
Iran's
Fars news agency said the Kurdistan province's police chief denied reports of
using live rounds against protesters. The agency claimed that the victim was
shot from inside the car.
Additionally,
a protester was killed after security forces fired gunshots to disperse crowds
in the city and 10 protesters were wounded, rights monitors said.

Annihilation
of Hazaras: The State Sponsored Jihad in Afghanistan

-------------
The
world remained a mute spectator when the Taliban took over Kabul without firing
a single shot. The NATO troops were busy leaving the war-torn-nation,
unbothered by the loss in the advancement that they made after two decades of
war on the terrorists. International news channels went one step ahead and
started normalising the ‘fighters’ playing in the park and flipping pages of
books in a library. A large number of helicopters, machine guns, rocket
launchers and advanced weaponries were left over by the withdrawing western
forces which were inherited by the Taliban. The Taliban was supposed to respect
international conventions and treat all the Afghan nationals as equals, but
everything is back to square one- the Islamist organsiation has launched a Jihad
against the members of Hazara community.
Hazaras
are the ethnic minorities in Afghanistan who follow Shi’ite Islam and are
roughly ten percentage of the total population. They have a history of being
persecuted by the majority Pashtuns in Afghanistan due to which many of them
fled to Balochistan and Khorasan in the first half of 20th century. They were
systematically targeted during the first Taliban regime (1996-2001) when
Taliban terrorists went from door to door to murder Hazara men and enslave
their women. After the fall of the Taliban regime, their condition improved but
attacks on the community continued to occur. In 2011, attack by suicide bombers
on the day of Ashura killed 59 Shi’ites
in Kabul and four in Mazar-e-Sharif. In November 2015, Taliban butchered seven Hazara travelles in
the Zabul province and in November 2018, Hazaras in Jaghari and Malistan were
selectively targetted and were killed. The United Nations Assistance Mission in
Afghanistan (UNAMA) recorded that more than 500 Hazara civilians were killed in
various attacks by the terrorists in 2021 alone.
In
a recent suicide attack targeting the Hazaras, 53 people were killed including
46 girls and young women and 110 people were injured in the Hazara quarter of
Kabul city. Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP), an offshoot of IS,
claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban government’s Ministry of
Foreign Affairs was quick to condemn the attack by saying, “The Islamic Emirate
does not believe in the religious, ethnic, or political divide of Afghan
nationals and considers itself accountable for the lives of all Afghans.” At
the same time the ‘Taliban police’ brutally assualted women who protested
against the attack on students and
demanded justice for the victims. This is not the first time that ISKP is
targeting the Hazara community, but the state (read Taliban) has turned a blind
eye towards them. There is also an allegation that the Taliban is using its own
proxies to carry out large scale attack on the Hazara population .
Ever
since its re-entry to the throne in Kabul, Taliban had been sending strong
warnings to Afghan’s Hazara population. The statue of Hazara leader Abdul Ali
Mazari in Bamiyan was destroyed by the Taliban within days of coming to power.
Mazari was murdered by the Taliban in 1995 and his body was mutilated and
thrown from a helicopter in Ghazni. In the district of Balkhab, Hazara
civilians were ruthlessly attacked and killed by the Taliban when their
commander Mehdi Mujahid, who was himself a Hazara rebelled against them. Mehdi
was killed by the Taliban along with with 200 fellow fighters and around 27,000
Hazaras were displaced in the conflict.
The
entire governanc structure of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is deprived of
Hazaras at the top position. Even in the Hazara majority districts of Bamiyan,
Ghazni and Daikundi, the Taliban has appointed hardliner-Sunni Islamists as its
Governors. Similarly, hazard are also removed from civil and government
services without giving any reasons in almost all the provinces. This shows
that the Taliban has not moved a bit from its perception on the Hazara
minority.
The
Taliban is transforming Afghanistan to a state exclusively for ‘Male Pashtuns’.
The handful of Afghan Hindus and Sikhs who were left in the nation are given
long term visas and are brought to India by the Central government. The women
irrestepctive of their community identity are granded only secondary status and
are now deprived of education, healthcare, job opportunities and a free life.
The ethnic minoritesinlcuding Hazaras, Uzbeks, Aimak and others are being
persecuted by the Taliban regime.
Even
when human rights violations are reported on a massive scale in Afghanistan,
more nations are coming forward to do business with the government led by
Taliban. But this time, unlike their first term, Taliban is handling the
situation in a way that the global community cannot blame it directly for the
attacks on Hazaras and other minorities.
All
the little advancement that the Hazara community could make from 2001-2021 are
now being annulled by the Islamic Emirate. The community members are being
eliminated throughout the country and this is nothing but a state sponsored
pogrom happening against the largest group of
‘infidels’ in Afghanistan.

A
Marine who hated Muslims went to a mosque to plant a bomb. His intended victims
ended up saving his life
By
John Blake
October
8, 2022
Richard
"Mac" McKinney: "I saw America as mine. I bled for this. It was
a 'You don't belong here' kind of thing."
------------
As
soon as some members of the Islamic Center of Muncie saw the man coming toward
them, they knew he was trouble.
He
was a big guy with broad shoulders, marching toward their mosque with his head
down and his face flushed red from what looked like anger. It was Friday at
Muncie Islamic Center in Muncie, Indiana, and the mosque was filling with
people who had come for afternoon prayers. As an outsider with a USMC tattoo on
his right forearm and a skull tattoo on his left hand, he stood out.
His
name was Richard “Mac” McKinney, and he was there not to worship but to
destroy. He was a former US Marine who had developed a hatred toward Islam
during combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. His fury deepened when he returned home
to Muncie to see how Muslims had settled into what he called his city, and even
sent their children to sit next to his daughter at her elementary school.
Unable
to contain his anger, he went to the Islamic center that day in 2009 on what he
saw as his final mission. He was going to plant a bomb at the mosque in hopes
of killing or wounding hundreds of Muslims. He was on a scouting mission to
pick a location to hide his bomb and to gather intelligence that would validate
his assumption that Islam was a murderous ideology.
But
when McKinney entered the mosque, he encountered a form of resistance that he
had not planned for. Something happened that day that would change him in a way
he never expected.
McKinney’s
transformation is the subject of a riveting documentary short called “Stranger
at the Gate.” The film, which won a special jury prize at the 2022 Tribeca Film
Festival, recounts how McKinney abandoned his plot and ended up converting to
Islam and embracing a surprising role at the mosque.
McKinney
recently spoke to CNN via video about his unlikely conversion. Wearing a blue
“Say No Hate to Hate,” T-shirt over his muscular frame and a long white beard
that made him look like a buffed Santa Claus, McKinney told his story in a
blunt, no-frills manner that underscored his 25 years in the military.

Islamic
State fanatics launch 'serious' attack on another inmate in UK jail
BySian
Hewitt
8
OCT 2022
Two
terrorists jailed for life launched a “loud, serious” attack on another inmate,
it is claimed.
But
officials denied rumours that Islamic State fanatics Tarik Hassane and Nadir
Syed said they wanted to behead their victim.
“Drive-by
Jihadi” Hassane and wannabe Poppy Day beheader Syed set on John McFall, who is
serving a whole life term for the savage sex murder of a single mum.
A
source said they attacked him during their “free time” at HMP Wakefield before
prison guards jumped in.
A
Ministry of Justice spokesman confirmed an altercation had taken place that
caused “minor injuries”.
Hassane
and Syed are inseparable and would always be together in any free time they
possibly could. They flock together, obviously because they are the same.
“They
have the same twisted beliefs. You would think bosses would see it as sensible
to keep them apart, but obviously not.
“They
launched an attack which was unlike normal attacks behind bars. They both
jumped at John. They wanted to seriously kill him, it seemed.
“It
wasn’t a quiet attack. It was big and it was loud. The guards were super-quick
to stop anything going too far.
“Goodness
knows what would have happened if they hadn’t got there.”
He
planned to attack Shepherd’s Bush police station and a nearby Army barracks –
targeting police, soldiers and the public by shooting “as many as he could”
before fleeing on a moped.

On
Wednesday (October 5), the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) pleaded with
lawmakers from New Jersey to ban BJP leader Sambit Patra from entering the
United States. The Islamist outfit accused Patra of being ‘Islamaphobic’ and hoped
that the US government would revoke his visa.
“IAMC

Stray

In
Jaipur central jail, Muslim prisoners allege assault by officials and other
convicts over namaz
Aishwarya
Iyer
09-10-2022
On
September 7, trouble erupted in Jaipur Central Jail as Hindu prisoners objected
to Muslim inmates saying namaz. According to the police, the row was soon
controlled by the use of “light force”. The relatives of Muslim prisoners tell
a different story. On September 9, two days after the row, eight Muslim
undertrial prisoners were beaten for hours by the jail authorities, they
allege.
Zubair
Khan, one of the inmates, gave his account to his nephew, 22-year-old Nomaan
Khan, who visited the jail on September 14. “There were inmates who had a
problem with the fajr namaz [early morning prayers], where some ayats [Quranic
verses] have to be recited,” said Nomaan Khan. “This led to a fight between
inmates on September 7. Then on September 9, instead of opening the lock up to
allow inmates to stroll around in the open compound between 3 pm to 5 pm, the
eight men were taken to an area where jail officials and some other prisoners
beat them up for three to four hours.”
All
eight prisoners who were allegedly assaulted are accused of planning to make
bombs. Arrested from Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district, most have been in jail
since March. Seven of the eight prisoners are from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.
The eighth prisoner is from Pune.

Muslims
not getting ‘due share’ despite significant contribution: Sharad Pawar
Oct
08, 2022
Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday called for finding ways to
provide the Muslim community their “due share”, saying they have made a
significant contribution in all fields. Addressing an event titled 'Issues
Before Indian Muslims', Pawar batted for Urdu but also stressed the importance
of the "main language" of states.
"Members
of the Muslim community have a feeling they are not getting their due share
despite being such a large part of the country, which is actually a reality.
Deliberations have to be held on how they can get their due share," he
said, as quoted by PTI.
On
the issue of the high rate of unemployment among Muslims, the NCP supremo noted
that unemployment was an issue across all communities in the country, but added
that complaints by minorities were genuine and needs to be looked into. He
asserted that the Muslim community can contribute hugely in the fields of art,
poetry and writing through Urdu, adding that its members have "quality and
capacity" but need "support and equal opportunity", reported
PTI.

Book
Review | Missed chance to bring nuance to the conversation on Islam
Oct
9, 2022
This
is a book for our times. It principally seeks to present ideas around the
notions of citizenship and identity, in particular group identity in the
context of minority groups within the framework of a nation-state — as distinct
from empire — which is endeavouring to work a democracy.
These
are indeed vital issues to be concerned with for an ancient society which
stepped into the age of half-baked and dependent modernism through the viaduct
of colonialism, and then substantially broke free from this after succeeding in
the struggle for sovereignty.
The
struggle was long-drawn but peaceful. Its success depended crucially on getting
right three distinct ideas — that India is a layered and diverse society in
every sense of the word and was fed through migrations over the millennia; that
the nationalism engendered through the anti-colonial struggle could only be of
a civic variety and not one based on language, race, or religion; and three,
that a state structure arising from this background — if it had to be durable —
could only be of a secular variety if the newly emerged modern state were to
succeed on the road to democracy.

How
the English department of Aligarh Muslim University nurtured contemporary Urdu literature
Mohammad
Asim Siddiqui
09-10-2022
Bilingualism,
in many cases even multilingualism, being a special quality of most Indians, it
comes as no surprise that many scholars working in various English Departments
of Indian universities and colleges have produced work of considerable merit in
several Indian languages. Often this work, both creative and critical, has not
been sufficiently acknowledged because the English Departments in India were
mostly concerned with the canonical study of English literature. The work done
on the English canon and on Indian languages belonged to two different domains,
with a separate group of readers.
With
a drastic change in the nature of English studies in India in the last two
decades or so, the broadening of the English canon following a decolonising
process, the introduction of literatures in Indian languages through English
translations and their inclusion in university curricula, and a renewed
confidence with which to view local and indigenous traditions of literature and
criticism, these two domains are beginning to converge.
While
taking stock of the work produced in English Department at Aligarh Muslim
University on the occasion of the Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, it was
heartening to note that many scholars, otherwise well-known as hard-working
teachers of English and sound scholars of English literature, contributed in a

Trump’s
hard-line policies toward Iran may have led to current protests
By
Brigham Tomco
Oct
9, 2022
Protests
in Iran have spread like wildfire and former President Donald Trump’s hard-line
policies may have provided the kindling.
The
protests that have rocked Iran for three weeks are the largest the country has
seen in over a decade, fueled by women angry over the increasingly repressive
measures of the regime and a growing sense of hopelessness about the country’s
economic future. Watching the unrest unfold, some have asked whether Trump’s
“maximum pressure” campaign paved the way for the current anti-government
uprisings.
Trita
Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible
Statecraft and an expert on U.S.-Iran relations, said Trump’s implementation of
harsh sanctions following his exit from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran may
have been an important factor in creating the conditions for the current
protests.

China
Stays Mum About India's No Vote On Uygur Muslims, Says Xinjiang Crackdown Aims
To Counter Terrorism
Outlook
Web Desk
08
OCT 2022
China
on Saturday maintained silence on India’s abstention from voting on a
resolution at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva that called for a
debate on concerns over the human rights situation in Xinjiang. Chinese Foreign
Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, however, defended the country’s crackdown
against Uygur Muslims, saying it was aimed at countering "terrorism and
separatism."
China's
comments came after India abstained from voting on the Xinjiang issue at the
UNHRC a day after New Delhi for the first time called for respecting and
guaranteeing the rights of people of the autonomous region.
“I
have noted relevant reports. I want to stress that the issues related to
Xinjiang are not about human rights. They are about countering violent
terrorism, radicalisation and separatism," said Yang, responding to a
question on her Indian counterpart Arindam Bagchi's remarks. “Thanks to
strenuous efforts, there has been no violent terrorist incident in Xinjiang for
over five consecutive years," Mao told a media briefing, but was silent on
the question seeking her reaction to India’s abstention.

I
am very much amused by all the efforts which the promoters of the Muslim-Muslim
Ticket, Mu-Mu Ticket, are making to deodorise and sell a bad product. Instead
of getting on with campaigning on their manifesto, convincing Nigerians with
their ideas of governance, they are wasting a lot of resources in the attempt
to repair self-induced injury.
Deep
in their hearts, they know they are failing; and will fail ultimately. Let me
repeat again that, as far as I am concerned, those offering opinions saying
religion does not, or, should not matter, are offering opinions – not supported
by global and national realities.
The
sooner they realise that their opinions are not binding on others the better.
To most Muslims and Christians, anywhere in the world, their religion does
matter to them. That is why they spend so much of their time and resources on
them. Nobody, because of one election in 2023, can tell us that religion should
be disregarded.

NAIROBI,

Muslims to Christ at debates on Islam and Christianity in eastern Uganda,
sources said.
Andrew
Dikusooka, 35, and 26-year-old Ronald Musasizi had debated Islamic scholars in
several areas around Iganga District, and some attacked them after a Sept.
20-24 series of such debates in the district’s predominantly Muslim Nampirika
village, said a leader of their ministry, unnamed for security reasons.
“The
two evangelists are nursing terrible wounds on their sick beds in Iganga town
after being attacked and beaten by radical Muslims,” the leader told Morning
Star News.
“Many
people gave their lives to Christ, including Muslims, witchdoctors and street
vendors,” Dikusooka told Morning Star News. “The conversion of these people
angered Muslims who began shouting to disrupt the occasion. When the meeting
ended, we took the new converts aside and had a few minutes explaining the

Rafizi
says no to GST or capital gains tax now, calls for RCI to plug defence
ministry's contract corruption
By
Ida Lim
08
Oct 2022
PETALING
JAYA, Oct 8 — Malaysia should not bring back the Goods and Services Tax (GST)
or introduce Capital Gains Tax (CGT) at this point in time, PKR deputy
president Rafizi Ramli said today.
Speaking
at a townhall event for youths here with PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar,
Rafizi said GST should not be imposed without fixing the corruption problem in
Malaysia first.
Rafizi
said the wealth inequality in Malaysia arises from corruption where those with
connections get lucrative contracts or other benefits, contrasting this to the
wealth inequality in other countries such as in US and China where those who
become rich are due to their hard work and that such wealth would end up having
a multiplying effect on the economy.
