‘Hand Over The Mosques In Kashi And Mathura As A “Good Will Gesture”, RSS Leaders To Muslim Intellectuals
Photo: Muslim Mirror

by Muslim Mirror
January 25, 2023
Senior members of the
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) met several Muslim leaders and
representatives of Muslim organizations at the former lieutenant governor
Najeeb Jung’s Delhi home.
Issues like hate speech, riots, mob lynching, and
the Kashi Mathura temple were discussed in the meeting, according to a Times of
India report.
On January 14, a group of
senior RSS pracharaks, including Ram Lal and Krishna Gopal, as well as Indresh
Kumar, patron of the Rashtriya Muslim Manch met the Muslim delegation which was
represented by the former Delhi LG Najeeb Jung, the former Election
Commissioner Shahabuddin Yakub Qureshi, journalist and former MP Shahid
Siddiqui, and the hotelier Saeed Sherwani. Lt. Gen. Retd. Zameeruddin Shah, a
former vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, couldn’t attend.
This meeting was significant
because it included representatives from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Jamiat
Ulema-e-Hind, and Darul Uloom Deoband. To pave the way for such meetings with
the RSS delegation, Najeeb Jung and representatives of Muslim intellectual and
religious communities met earlier on January 13 at the home of journalist
Shahid Siddiqui.
Confirming the meeting,
Siddiqui told TOI, “We had another cordial meeting to discuss the continuing
polarisation and marginalisation of the Muslim community. We hope to meet again
in different cities.”
Laeek Ahmed, National
assistant secretary, Jamaat-e-IslamiHind (JEIH) also confirmed the meeting,
saying, “Our representative was present. The issue of hate speeches was taken
up and the RSS leaders agreed that it gives India a bad name, internationally.”
The topic of Bhagwat’s
recent interview with Panchajanya and Organiser was raised by Jung and company.
The RSS chief’s remarks
about Muslims having to give up their “rhetoric of supremacy” and about Muslims
and Hindus having been “at war for over 1000 years” sparked a political uproar.
The RSS leaders attempted to downplay the comments at the meeting on January
14, claiming that the interview, which was originally in Hindi, had not been
properly contextualised and translated.
Confirming this, Malik
Mohtasim Khan, National Secretary, JEIH, who was a part of the January meeting
at Jung’s residence, said, “They brought up Mathura and Kashi in the context
Babri Masjid and we reminded them about the court cases. We also asked them,
will you stop at three (Babri, Kashi and Mathura) and they said they cannot
guarantee anything.”
The meeting, which lasted
almost three hours, concluded with the possibility of advancing the outreach
through meetings in other cities.
On August 22 of last year,
Mohan Bhagwat, the head of the RSS, had his first meeting with five prominent
Muslim intellectuals.

The Legal Dispute Over Varanasi, Mathura Mosques -
Places Of Worship Act 1991 Is Once Again In Focus

The story so far: The Places of Worship (Special
Provisions) Act, 1991, is once again in focus, albeit in a context in which its
objectives are being ignored. Civil suits questioning the religious character
of mosques at Varanasi and Mathura are progressing apace. These developments
show that legislation freezing the status of places of worship is inadequate to
stop Hindu claimants from making determined legal efforts to achieve their goal
of replacing them with temples.
When the Babri-Masjid Ram Janmabhoomi dispute gained
momentum, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu organisations took up the
case of two other mosques — the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi and the Shahi Idgah
in Mathura. In September 1991, the P.V. Narasimha Rao government enacted a
special law to freeze the status of places of worship as they were on August
15, 1947. The law kept the disputed structure at Ayodhya out of its purview as
it was then an ongoing litigation.

Saudi Arabia Hosts Islamic Military Coalition,
Announces $26.6 Mn to Support Initiatives
Saudi Defence Minister
Prince Khalid bin Salman called for a unified stance to condemn Israeli violations
in the Gaza Strip (SPA)
------
Mohammed Helal
4 February 2024
Saudi Arabia will contribute $26.6 million to support
initiatives financing the fund of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism
Coalition (IMCTC), announced Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman on
Saturday.
Prince Khalid, who also serves as chairman of the
coalition’s Council of Defense Ministers, also declared that the Kingdom would
support 46 training programs as part of the Coalition's four ideological
domains, including its media, military, and anti-terrorism financing fields.
The announcement came within the Minister's address at
the second meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the IMCTC member
states in Riyadh under the theme "Combating Terrorism: A Shared
Responsibility."
The Minister inaugurated the second meeting of the
Council, stressing that the presence of the defense ministers of the Islamic
Alliance is only an extension of the first meeting that was held earlier.
He reiterated the role of the message of Islamic
religion in combating extremism and terrorism to achieve global security and
peace.
Prince Khalid pointed out that the aspirations of the
IMCTC require concerted efforts, in addition to integration, cooperation, and
partnership between member states, various countries of the world, and
international bodies.
Prince Khalid stressed that the ongoing Israeli
aggression against the Palestinian people requires a unified stance by the
member states of the Coalition to condemn Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip
and the West Bank.
He asserted the need to stop this aggression
immediately following the decisions of the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic
summit held in Riyadh on November 11, 2023.
During the meeting, IMCTC Sec-Gen Major General Pilot
Staff Mohammed al-Moghedi gave a briefing on the methodology of the Coalition,
followed by a presentation of the initiatives of donor countries and supporting
countries.
Moghedi announced the final statement, in which the
member states expressed their support for the emphasis conveyed in the speech
of the Saudi Defense Minister on the importance of a unified stance among
member states in condemning the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian
people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The defense ministers emphasized their countries'
determination to enhance cooperation, coordinate efforts, and unite them to
avert terrorism risks.
They also expressed their satisfaction with the
progress achieved in the Coalition's journey, confirming their commitment to
fight terrorism and eliminate it through organized collective action and
comprehensive planning.
The defense ministers were briefed on the Coalition's
methodology and the initiatives it encompasses, designed based on the needs of
the member states.
The attendees agreed to launch a fund for financing
the Coalition's initiatives, which is dedicated to receiving financial
contributions from the member states, supporting countries, and international
bodies and organizations.
Coalition Advisor Major General Abdullah al-Qahtani
confirmed that the meeting is crucial, whether at the level of its
representation or outcomes.
Qahtani reiterated to Asharq Al-Awsat that the most
essential element is the Coalition's determination to combat terrorism
worldwide.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Saudi Defense
Minister held bilateral meetings with several defense ministers from Islamic
countries.
Prince Khalid received Kuwait's Minister of Defense
and Acting Minister of Interior of Kuwait, Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al Sabah, and the
accompanying delegation.
The Saudi Minister also held bilateral meetings with
Djibouti's Minister of Defense in charge of relations with Parliament Hassan
Omar Mohamed Burhan, Sudan's Minister of Defense Major General Yassin Ibrahim
Abdel-Hadi, and Mauritania's Minister of DefenseHananaOuldSidi,

Carrier Screening For Genetic Diseases For Family
Planning Permissible In Islam: Singapore Fatwa Lab Research Findings

couples in Singapore who are planning to have children can turn to carrier
screenings to detect diseases that may potentially be passed on genetically to
their children.

Seri Mazliana
February 03, 2024
Muslim couples in Singapore who are planning to have
children can turn to carrier screenings to detect diseases that may potentially
be passed on genetically to their children.
Speaking during a plenary discussion at the Conference
on Fatwa in Contemporary Societies 2024, Husna Azzakiyah Muhammad Haniff from
Fatwa Lab said research findings conclude that such screenings are permissible
in Islam and in line with Shariah.
The Fatwa Lab is a platform for researchers and
scholars to discuss, analyse and collaborate on contemporary issues under the
remit of fatwa work.
The discussion focused on exploring the effective
implementation of a value-based approach to customised carrier screening. It
aims to offer religious guidance for Muslim couples to make decisions in line
with Shariah principles.
Other panellists include Muis Deputy Mufti Mohammad
Hannan Hassan, associate member of the Fatwa Committee MohdRizhan Leman and
Saumya Shekhar Jamuar, senior consultant at Genetics Service in KK Women's and
Children's Hospital.
The two-day conference organised by Muis covered
topics such as how contextualised fatwas can cultivate intellectual and ethical
empowerment in Muslims, as well as how fatwa institutions can address the
evolving needs of the Muslim community.
Husna spoke about how her research team, in
collaboration with Saumya, studied how carrier screenings can be implemented
for Muslim couples considering current medical practices along with the
fundamental tenets of Islam.
The research also analysed the "maslahah"
consideration in Islam. "Maslahah" is an Islamic concept referring to
the necessity or benefit of Islamic rulings or law.
However, the team also acknowledged that there are
bigger implications to the community when it comes to the topic of genetics
than just announcing a specific ruling.
Couples should also incorporate the Islamic concept of
"tawakkul" while considering the balance of health and suffering,
Husna added.
"I would prefer an organic change," said
Mohammad Hannan Hassan, adding that the Muslim community should be able to get
used to these tests and gradually see it as a normal process.

Paris Knife Attack Suspect Told TikTok Followers He
‘Hated France’ And Claimed He’d Soon Be ‘Welcomed In Paradise’ By Allah
THOMAS BROOKE
04-02-2024
The Malian national suspected of stabbing three
passengers at a Paris train station was a prolific user of the TikTok social
media platform and hinted to his followers about his planned attack.
Le Figaro newspaper named 32-year-old
SagouGounoKassogue as the perpetrator arrested by French authorities after
setting fire to a backpack and using a knife and a hammer to injure three
people, seemingly indiscriminately, at the Gare De Lyon train station shortly
after 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Several internet users drew attention to Kassogue’s
TikTok account through which he regularly berated France and the West for
“impoverishing developing nations” in Africa and claimed that French people
would soon “reap the storm” they had sowed for decades.
The Malian national, who was granted asylum in Italy
back in 2016, told his 44,000 followers that France was a “terrorist state that
finances terrorists” and declared, “I hate all French people,” blaming them for
“all the problems on this planet.”
In a video uploaded in December last year, Kassogue
hinted that “Allah will welcome me in paradise in three months,” suggesting the
attack was religiously motivated, although French authorities claimed the
stabbing spree was not terror-related.
“As we speak, there are no elements to suggest that
this is a terrorist act,” said Paris police prefect Laurent Nuñez following the
attack.
Kassogue also praised Russian President Vladimir Putin
calling him “an intelligent man” and “a man of his word,” evidencing the
growing influence of Russian-fuelled propaganda in the suspect’s home nation.
Following a psychiatric evaluation, Kassogue’s police
custody was lifted late on Saturday, and the Malian was transferred to the
psychiatric infirmary at the police headquarters in Paris.

Saudi Arabia Is Hiring Physicians And Nurses From
Bangladesh

04 Feb 2024
Saudi Arabia is hiring physicians and nurses from
Bangladesh. The development came following the Kingdom’s recent decision to
approve their recruitment and qualifications, according to Arab News.
Citing the Bangladesh Medical Association data, the
Saudi newspaper also reported that there are only a few dozen clinicians among
nearly 3 million Bangladeshi expatriate workers residing in the Kingdom.
Both countries signed an agreement on the recruitment
of medics in 2022, while the maiden batch of Bangladeshi health workers
departed for the Kingdom in November, 2023.
In this regard, Riyadh’s Ambassador to Dhaka Essa
Al-Duhailan told Arab News, “For a long time, Saudi Arabia didn’t recruit any
medical staff from Bangladesh. But now we started recruiting them, because they
already reach our criteria.”
“This number, insha’Allah, will jump in the near
future ... It’s just to tickle the market and to see how it’s going,”
Al-Duhailan said in an interview last week.
“A team from the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia
already visited Bangladesh twice last year. And they will continue to visit
Bangladesh to recruit more.”
Meanwhile, Khairul Alam, additional secretary at the
Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, said “Kingdom
authorities asked us to send over 150 trained nurses. Our ministry is now
scrutinising the demands, like where the Bangladeshi nurses will be employed,
whether they will be employed by government-run hospitals or private health
facilities, etc.,”
“We welcome this latest move from Saudi Arabia to
appoint Bangladeshi health sector workers in the Kingdom, a country that is a
key destination for our migrants. There are scopes to increase this opportunity
further,” Alam said.
Bangladesh’s more than 100 medical colleges produce
large numbers of certified doctors, nurses and medics. Working in the Kingdom
with top-quality equipment also offers them learning opportunities.
“The more medical staffers we can send and the more we
can upgrade them in terms of quality, the more it will create a win-win
situation for both countries,” said Shariful Hasan, associate director of the
migration program of BRAC, the largest development organisation based in
Bangladesh.
“Secondly, it will be helpful for our migrants ... Our
doctors, nurses, and medical staffers can also offer treatment to our migrants
in the Kingdom.”
“As a result, we are exporting the highest number of
migrants but receiving a lesser amount of remittance in comparison with the
number of migrants. In this context, if we can send more skilled workforces, it
will increase our remittance,” Hasan said.

The I Care initiative aims to raise awareness about
the importance of preserving cultural and civilizational heritage and historic
sites.
The campaign’s centerpiece work of art is currently
visible in the shifting desert sands, but over the coming weeks it will
naturally fade back into the landscape, symbolizing the need to conserve

Road safety fears amid Jeddah food delivery boom
SALEH FAREED
February 03, 2024
JEDDAH: Demand for food delivery is booming in Jeddah
but it comes with a side of road disruptions and traffic due to the increasing
number of two-wheelers on the coastal city’s streets.
Some say the boom has transformed roads and drawn
thousands of delivery riders into high-risk situations in an effort to deliver
food hot and on time. The riders’ behavior is being criticized by those who
claim that they drive their motorcycles at high speeds and recklessly,
committing violations that may lead to fatal traffic accidents.
In front of one of the famous restaurants in Jeddah,
where delivery drivers gather, Pakistani national Irfan Hassan told Arab News:
“The way we drive is normal, but the car drivers deal with us with intimidation
and harass us. We have a specific time for delivery so that the food does not
get cold.
Mahmoud Shukry, an Egyptian rider, said: “In almost
one year, I’ve been in involved in about 3-4 accidents — some major, some
minor.” Shukry added that he knows one rider who died on the job after being
hit by a car.

'Ignorance leads to intolerance': The people bringing
Manchester's Muslims and Jews together
By Damon Wilkinson
4 FEB 2024
On a Sunday night last month, a group of friends and
acquaintances gathered together at a restaurant in Prestwich. They came from
different backgrounds, from across Greater Manchester.
But they had one thing in common. In the face of the
ongoing horrors of the war in Gaza, they were determined to maintain ties
between Greater Manchester's Muslims and Jews.
For 20 years a small group of volunteers have been
bringing the two communities together. The aim is to build cultural and social
connections.
And the Israel-Gaza war has made the efforts of the
Muslim Jewish Forum of Greater Manchester all the more vital. "It's
important not to import the conflict over here," says the forum's Muslim
co-chair Mohammed Amin.

UK advises citizens against travelling to Afghanistan

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development

News reported.
According to an FCDO statement, there is a
“significant risk of detention of British nationals” and “terrorists are very
likely to try to carry out attacks” in Afghanistan during the month of Ramadan.

Miles to go to develop a healthier Bangladesh
Md. Abdul Aahad
04 February, 2024
Despite the notable progress over the last two
decades, significant concerns and challenges in health and nutrition services
still exist and need to be addressed in order to reach global nutrition
targets.
The current nutrition status of Bangladesh provides a
mixed picture of both success and drawbacks. According to the latest Bangladesh
Demographic Health Survey (BDHS) 2022, the under-5 child death rate has reduced
from 43 in 2017 to 31 per 1,000 live births in 2022 while stunting dropped from
31% to 24%.
Due to persistent efforts to reduce child
undernourishment, Bangladesh has improved slightly in the Global Hunger Index
score, ranking 81st among 125 countries with a score of 19.1 at a moderate
level. However, in terms of meeting the targets related to mothers, infants and
young children (MIYCN), Bangladesh is substantially behind.
The goal of lowering anaemia among women of
reproductive age has not been achieved since 36.7% of women aged 15 to 49 years
are currently affected. On a positive note, 62.6% of infants younger than six
months are breastfed exclusively, and there has also been a modest improvement
in the low birth weight rate.

SECP Devises Strategy For Adoption Of Sharia Standards
February 4, 2024
ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of
Pakistan (SECP) has published a consultation paper to seek comments and
feedback from stakeholders on the implementation of a new strategy for the
adoption of AAOIFI’s Sharia, accounting, auditing and governance standards.
The proposed new strategy aims to enhance the adoption
of Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions
(AAOIFI) standards by introducing a more comprehensive and interactive
approach, with a phased implementation of all standards to ensure effective
compliance.
By considering the maturity level of the industry and
practical difficulties in adopting all standards at once, the proposed strategy

PTI holds rally in Swabi despite police raid

SWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders during a power
show here on Saturday said implicating the party founder and former prime
minister in what they said baseless and politically-motivated cases had
backfired as popularity of the incarcerated leader had increased manifold,
which would be proven in the Feb 8 elections.
PTI district president Sohail Yousafzai claimed that
the party managed to hold a successful show despite facing roadblocks from the
police and the district administration.
The speakers said the powers that be were adamant on
bringing to the helm PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif by entangling their leader

The police attempted to take away chairs, loudspeakers
and other material from the gathering’s venue, but the PTI leaders and workers

According to the result issued by the BIEK on Jan 9, a

The United States carried out airstrikes in Iraq and
Syria, targeting over 85 locations associated with Iran's Revolutionary Guard
in response to an attack on US troops, Reuters reported.
Earlier, President Joe Biden, along with other top US

strike but rather a "tiered response" unfolding over time.
In an official statement after the Friday strikes,

‘Imam Khomeini calls for greater unity’
February 3, 2024
TEHRAN- The Tehran Times, which began publishing in
1979, was founded during the early years of Iran’s quest for independence. The
English-language daily newspaper has been regarded by Mohammad Beheshti, one of
the most influential and renowned figures of the Islamic Republic, as the
“voice of the Islamic Revolution”.
Such a label, made the staff at the Tehran Times feel
an even bigger responsibility to accurately and effectively report the daily
occurrences in the country and become a helping hand in the consolidation and
entrenchment of the new people-led governance. For that, the paper needed to
follow the events with a keen eye and try to draw attention to issues that were
essential to be addressed.
That’s why with the approaching of the 10-day Fajr
occasion, the period from February 1st (Bahman 12th) to February 11th (Bahman
22nd) of 1977 during which Imam Khomeini returned to Iran after 15 years of
exile, we have decided to take a look at how the Tehran Times commemorated the
historic period in February of 1980. Such an act would help us understand where
we stand today, and give us a clearer vision of the hardships Iranians had to
endure to be able to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the victory of the
Islamic Revolution today. February 1st in the year 1980 was a Friday. The
Tehran Times’s covering of the Fajr decade began a day later, on Saturday.

Iran become protector of oppressed people After
Islamic Rev.
Feb 4, 2024
Between January 1978 and February 11, 1979, the Muslim
revolutionary people of Iran, under the wise leadership of Ayatollah Ruhullah
Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Revolution, voiced their opposition
against the secular and US-backed rule of Mohamad Reza Shah.
The regime of Mohammad Reza Shah had caused much
suffering and economic gap and inequality in Iranian society and its Secret
Police (SAVAK) had tortured Iranian youth brutally, therefore, widespread
dissatisfaction among the lower classes, Shia clergy, bazaar merchants, and
students led in 1978 to the growth of support for Imam Khomeini who was living
in exile in Paris.
The dictator of Iran and his family fled Iran on
January 16, 1979, and Imam Khomeini returned home after a 15-year- exile, and
the nationwide demonstrations ended up with the Victory of the Islamic
Revolution on February 11, 1979.
The impressive notions and ideologies of the Islamic
Revolution became a role model for all independent Muslim countries and
freedom-seeking nations.

US strikes Iran-backed groups as Israel-Hamas war
rages
By Heather Chen
February 4, 2024
The US and the United Kingdom have conducted strikes
on Houthi targets in Yemen from air and surface platforms — including F/A-18s —
on over 30 targets across 13 locations, according to officials.
Two US destroyers fired Tomahawk missiles as part of
the strikes, a US official told CNN. The USS Gravely and USS Carney fired the
land-attack cruise missiles and F/A-18 fighter jets from the USS Dwight D.
Eisenhower aircraft carrier were also involved, officials said.
For context: Strikes on consecutive days come as

With U.S. strikes in Iraq and Syria, Biden sends Iran
a signal of deterrence — and restraint
By Keir Simmons
Feb. 3, 2024
ERBIL, Iraq — The dozens of airstrikes launched by the
United States late Friday are by far its biggest attacks against Iran-backed
militants in the Middle East during this current round of conflict.
However the strikes in Iraq and Syria, an initial
retaliation for the killing of three American soldiers, did not go as far as
some more hawkish figures had hoped, as the White House tries to avoid an
all-out war with Iran. Some regional watchers have warned that this apparent
restraint — including telegraphing the attacks well in advance — may mean the
militias feel emboldened to continue their violence against American forces in
the region.
The bombings drew an angry reaction from Iraq itself,
which summoned the U.S. envoy in protest and said the strikes on its soil had
killed civilians and risked destabilizing the region. Syria said the U.S. was
fueling regional conflict in “a very dangerous way.” Iranian officials have
been similarly hostile, and Tehran, though also reluctant to see a wider war,
has warned American strikes would not go unanswered.
“What you saw last night and what you are going to see
again was not insignificant,” a senior Biden administration official told NBC
News. “When you hit 85 targets over 30 minutes, that sends a strong signal
about the capability that we have,” the official said, adding that “there are
other things we’re going to do. Some you will see and some you won’t see.”

Southern Muslims to pay N4.9m for 2024 hajj
3rd February 2024
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has fixed the
final fare prices for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage exercise.
The commission had earlier in October, pegged the
initial fare deposit at N4.5m, noting that the fixed amount was “in tandem with
the dollar rate that will determine the final cost of the coming Hajj”, and
that the amount would give the commission a more realistic figure in bargaining
for the cost of accommodation, airline fares, feeding, and other necessities.
However, in a statement signed by NAHCON’s Assistant
Director of Public Affairs, Fatima Usara, on Saturday, the Commission said it
had made efforts to maintain the fares at N4.5m, but had to make adjustments
because of “the recent instability in the dollar exchange rate.”
Usara added that while the Chairman of the commission,
Jalal Arabi, had negotiated prices with service providers in Saudi Arabia, the
currency situation in the past week necessitated the adjustments, stating that
the fares would have reached up to N6 million otherwise.

The reported killings in the town of Merawi appeared

according to UN reports last year.
Spokespersons for Ethiopia's army and government and
