'There
Is Only Love, No Jihad In Kerala: Muslim Leaders Dismiss The Kerala Story As
Lie During Eid Prayers
Apr
11, 2024
Thiruvananthapuram/Kozhikode:
Amidst the uproar sparked by the screening of The Kerala Story, Muslim religious
leaders, addressing thousands of worshippers across various parts of the state
during Eid prayers, seized the opportunity to caution against falling prey to
propaganda and half-truths intended to disrupt the peace in the state.
While
speaking at a prayer meeting held at Chandrasekaran Nair Stadium in the state
capital on Wednesday, the Imam of Palayam mosque V P SuhaibMaulavi hit out at
the film and the decision by certain sections of the church to screen it.
“Such
movies are propagating completely baseless things. I have only one thing to
tell those people who screen such movies. We should not become tools in the
hands of those who spread lies,” SuhaibMaulavi said.
He
cautioned the worshippers to remain vigilant against the attempts made by
certain groups to sow discord in society and pointed out that even the Union
govt had made it clear that no such cases of Love Jihad has been reported by
the central agencies.
How
can such blatant lies be propagated through a film, he asked, adding that
people should not allow themselves to be manipulated by those who are trying to
fragment communities.
SuhaibMaulavi
went on to emphasize that rather than dividing society, art and culture should
unite people and promote brotherhood.
He
also urged the people to express their solidarity with the people of Palestine.
“If you cannot express solidarity with the people of Palestine, then there is
no meaning in our prayers. Standing with the people of Palestine means you are
with humanity. If you are aligning with Israel then you are with demons,’’ said
the Maulavi.
In
Kozhikode, Islamic scholar and KNM vice president Hussain Madavoor slammed the
movie, stating that the people of a state like Kerala, which has a cherished
tradition of communal amity, would not accept it.
“We
had seen Hindus and Christians taking refuge in mosques during floods.
Likewise, Muslims conducted prayers in Christian churches and Christians and
Muslims had stayed in places associated with temples,” Madavoor said while ad
dressing worshippers on Kozhikode beach.
He
too said that the intelligence agencies that looked into the allegations of
love jihad had said in their report that there is love but no jihad.
He
added that love affairs happen across religions, castes, nationalities, or even
continents, and it is up to individuals to be vigilant about them, emphasizing
that it is not a community issue.
In
their messages, several religious leaders in the district also exhorted the
believers to use their franchise to protect democracy and secularism in the country.

Indian
Catholics Slam Diocese For Screening Anti-Muslim Movie
Church screens 'Kerala Story' to fight 'love jihad'
© Provided by The Times of India
------
APRIL
11, 2024
A
group of Catholics in India have condemned a diocese for screening a
purportedly anti-Muslim film for youths just before the general election, but a
Catholic youth group said it plans to screen the film in three more dioceses.
In
an April 9 statement, the film's opponents said they condemned the “insensitive
and unchristian act” of Idukki diocese in screening the movie, The Kerala
Story, which they said was a propaganda movie that pro-Hindu groups created to
spread hate against Muslims.
The
movie is a propaganda film "created to further the pro-Hindu narrative
which is to destroy the secular nature of our country," said the statement
signed by Christian leaders, including Catholic priests and nuns.
The
diocese, under the Kerala-based Syro-Malabar Church, says that it screened the
Hindi-language movie for teenage students as part of a catechism program, aimed
at raising awareness about the hidden dangers of falling in love.
The
diocesan officials say the program was scheduled seven months back and has no
political links. But critics accuse the Church hierarchy of supporting the
pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which
wants to sideline Muslims.
As
the controversy gained political tones, a prominent youth group in the state,
the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM), said its units in three other Kerala
dioceses — Pala, Thamarassery, and
Thalassery — have decided to screen the movie for youth groups from April 13
onward.
In
addition to the three diocese, the “movie will be screened once again in Idukki
for youths. The earlier screening was meant only for Catechism students, so
other youths missed out on watching it,” Richald John, the youth group’s
president of the Thamarassery chapter, told the media on April 9.
The
Hindi language movie discusses “Love Jihad,” a term used to describe Muslim
boys feigning love to marry Christian and Hindu girls to convert them to Islam.
The movie claims some such Kerala girls were taken out of India and forced to
join Islamic terrorist groups.
The
movie is "replete with lies, factual inaccuracies and half-truths,"
the film's opponents said. Its director retracted his earlier claim that 32,000
girls embraced Islam and reduced the number to just three, their statement
said.
The
opponents, mostly based outside Kerala, wanted Church authorities to promote
inter-religious harmony as India goes to the polls this month.
Modi,
whose party gets support from Hindu groups accused of supporting violence
against Christians and Muslims, is seeking a third consecutive term in office.
The
decision to screen the movie has sown the “seeds of hatred, intolerance, and
prejudice among children,” the film's opponents said.
Father
Jins Karackatt, director of the Idukki Diocesan Media Commission, said they
screened the movie to "highlight the dangers involved in different forms
of love.”
Father
Suresh Mathew, a former editor of Indian Currents, a Catholic news magazine and a signatory to
the letter, said the screening was "a confession that their faith
formation is inadequate."
"It
also shows that they need the support of Goebbelsian lies to communicate values
to their students,” he told UCA News on April 10.
The
BJP has yet to win any of Kerala's 20 seats in the national parliament, and it
is banking on Christians to open its account. Christian leaders in Kerala have
not openly opposed the BJP.

Biden
Vows 'Ironclad' Support For Israel Amid Iran Attack Fears
US President Joe Biden
-------
By
Max Matza
11
Apr 2024
Mr
Biden warned that Iran is threatening to launch a "significant
attack" after Israel struck the Iranian consulate in Syria 10 days ago.
"When
they attacked our consulate area, it was like they attacked our
territory," Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a televised speech.
For
Iran to strike Israel directly would risk an even greater escalation in the
conflict, and analysts have said Iran does not have the military capability for
a significant confrontation.
A
possible alternative is an attack via an Iranian proxy like Hezbollah, which
has traded fire with Israel across the border from Lebanon almost daily since 8
October. Those exchanges have intensified in recent weeks.
"Hezbollah
is very capable, hundreds of thousands of rockets and missiles there, on the
border that can reach all the way into southern Israel," Joe Buccino,
former Communications Director at the US military's Central Command, told the
BBC.
On
Sunday an Iranian official warned Israel's embassies were "no longer
safe", suggesting a consulate building could be a possible target.
Thirteen
people were killed in the 1 April attack on the Iranian consulate building,
including senior Iranian military leaders. Among them was Brig-Gen Mohammad
Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of Iran's elite Quds Force in Syria and
Lebanon.
US
and Israeli forces in the region have been put on high alert in the days since.
Last week the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) cancelled leave for soldiers serving
with combat units and called up reservists to bolster air defence units.
Israeli
Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz responded on social media to Ayatollah
Khamenei's comments by saying if Tehran attacked from its territory, Israel
would react and "attack in Iran".
Meanwhile
the head of US forces in the region, Gen Michael Kurilla, is to discuss the
threat of a possible Iranian attack in talks with Israeli Defence Minister Yoav
Gallant and army Chief of Staff Lt Gen HerziHalevi in Israel on Thursday,
according to Israeli media reports.
Mr
Biden's remarks came as he was speaking to journalists at the White House on
Wednesday alongside Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
"As
I told Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel's security
against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad - let me say it
again, ironclad," Mr Biden said.
His
comments come one day after an interview, recorded a week ago, was aired in
which Mr Biden urged Mr Netanyahu to "just call for a ceasefire" in
Gaza and in which he said he disagreed with the prime minister's war strategy.
It
also comes days after a tense phone call between Mr Biden and Mr Netanyahu in
the wake of the Israeli killing of seven humanitarian aid workers in Gaza.
Mr
Biden has sharpened his rhetoric over Israel's conduct in the nearly
six-month-old war sparked by Hamas's 7 October attack, and voiced his growing
frustration with Mr Netanyahu. Iran backs Hamas and Iranian officials have
praised the attack in which about 1,200 people were killed and 253 taken to
Gaza as hostages.
US
officials have been attempting to send a message to the Iranians that, despite
differences of opinion between Mr Biden and Mr Netanyahu, any attack on Israel
will met with an aggressive US response.
In
an effort to ease tensions, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, the UAE,
Qatar and Iraq spoke to their Iranian counterpart this week, according to
Axios.
The
ministers were asked to convey a message from Mr Biden's senior Middle East
advisor, Brett McGurk, about the need to de-escalate.
According
to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry, more than 33,000 people - mostly women and
children - have been killed in the Israeli offensive, which was triggered by
Hamas's attack.

Iran
Fumes After Israeli Strikes Kill Hamas Boss' Sons, Grandkids; 'Speeds Collapse
Of Netanyahu'
Apr
11, 2024
Iran's
President and Foreign Minister tore into Israel's savagery after bombardment in
Gaza killed three sons and four grandchildren of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.
While Ebrahim Raisi slammed the "child-killing psyche of this
regime," Hossein Amirabdollahian warned that the "massacre only
speeds up the collapse of Benjamin Netanyahu's government." Iran is
already furious at Israel after air strikes destroyed its consulate building in
Syria's Damascus on April 1, killing 7 IRGC Quds Force members. Watch for more
details.

At
10.15 in the night during Ramzan, the roads leading to Nagpada junction in Mumbai
Central are bustling with actvity. But in one of the bylanes, less than five
minutes on foot from the junction, 43-year-old advocate Nadeem Siddiqui is back
to work in his office after the evening prayers and iftar, helping people with
free legal advice to ensure that their identity documents are free from
discrepancies. Students who wish to avail scholarships for higher studies
abroad also come to him for help.
There
are people waiting in line outside his office, which has a seating arrangement
for up to four persons to be aided at a time. Even during Ramzan, Mr. Siddiqui,
aided by four volunteers, was available from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again from 10
p.m. until midnight every Monday to Saturday. Fifty-two-year-old Mohammad Asif,
who works in Mumbai Central but resides in Mira Road which is 40 km from
Nagpada, has come to seek advice on how to get a few mistakes corrected in his
documents as he feels that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will soon be
implemented across the country, especially after the notification of the
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules last month. The current NRC is a list of
people who have been able to prove that they were in Assam before the midnight
of March 24, 1971, the eve of the war in which Bangladesh won independence from
Pakistan.

Hold
Eid Prayers Inside Mosques Only, Have More Than One Session To Avoid Crowding:
Shahi Imam Of Delhi Jama Masjid
Apr
11, 2024
New
Delhi: Syed Ahmed Bukhari, shahi imam of Jama Masjid, urged Muslims celebrating
Eid on Thursday to hold the festival prayers within the confines of their
respective mosques.
Issuing
a letter to all imams of mosques in India on Wednesday, the shahi imam
suggested that in areas with mixed faith populations, Eid prayers should be
held within the confines of the mosque to avoid inconvenience to people of
other religions. On how overcrowding of mosques could be avoided because of
this, Bukhari said holding more than one prayer sessions would resolve the
issue gracefully.
“When
the number of worshippers in mixed settlements or places is high, more than one
congregation should mandatorily be offered inside the mosque premises to ensure
the Eid prayer is held in an atmosphere of warmth and goodwill,” the shahi
imam’s letter said. “The spirit of the holy occasion of Eid demands spiritual
peace to prevail all over and its waves of goodness reach all sections of
society.”

April

ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday announced that the federal government
would declare an education emergency in the country and would provide all
possible resources to educate children of poor families.
He
vowed to replicate his idea of free education to children of poor and deserving
families by establishing Daanish Schools in Azad Jammu and Kashmir,
Gilgit-Baltistan, and remote areas of Balochistan and Sindh to fulfill the
aspiration of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
“This
is not the fault of the poor children if their parents cannot afford to provide
top quality education to their children despite working hard…If iron gates of
the Aitchison College or Grammar School are obstructing their way (to top
quality education), the door of Daanish Schools are open for them,” the prime
minister said.
He

Events
may lead to another ‘Dhaka tragedy’, PTI warns
Ikram
Junaidi
April
10, 2024
ISLAMABAD:
Drawing a parallel between current developments in Pakistan with the
circumstances leading to the 1971 Dhaka tragedy, PTI founding chairman and
former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday warned that the present situation
could result in economic collapse, reminding the powers that be that countries
and institutions could not survive without stable economy.
Sharing
Mr Khan’s message during a presser at National Press Club after the party’s
legal team met him in Adiala Jail, PTI Central Information Secretary Raoof
Hasan said Salman Akram Raja, IntazarPanjutha, Shoaib Shaheen and Naeem
Panjutha were among those who met the incarcerated ex-PM.
Barrister
Raja told the media Mr Khan looked determined, though worried for the country
and its people. “When you don’t give rights to the people, you cannot say the
economy will grow. In 1970, army chief Yahya Khan wanted a hung parliament, but
when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s party got a clear majority army held a fraud
by-election in which 80 seats of Awami League were snatched as Yahya Khan
wanted to become president,” he said, while narrating the PTI founder’s
message.
“I
want to remind Hamoodur Rahman Commission report that we are again going to
repeat the same blunders which we made in the past. In 1970 there was London
Plan and today again a government has been imposed through London Plan,”
Barrister Raja quoted Mr Khan as saying.

Police
arrest man suspected of vandalizing Nob Hill mosque over Ramadan
By
Joel Umanzor
Apr.
10, 2024
Eid
al-Fitr began Tuesday evening, marking the end of four weeks of daily fasts for
Muslims worldwide. In San Francisco, the celebrations of Ramadan have been
shadowed by repeated attacks on a mosque involving smashed windows, graffiti
and even pornography taped to the place of worship.
But
Wednesday night brought some hope of justice and relief as police arrested a
man allegedly caught on camera committing some of the vandalism.
Surveillance
footage provided to The Standard showed a white man with a skateboard walking
up to Nob Hill’s Masjid al-Tawheed mosque on April 4 as Ahmed Algahim, the
mosque treasurer, stood at the front door. The man smashed six windows from the
building.

PHILADELPHIA
-- A joyful celebration of the end of Ramadan devolved into panic Wednesday in
Philadelphia after rival groups exchanged gunfire, leaving at least three
people injured and driving hundreds of parents and children to flee in search
of safety.
The
annual Eid al-Fitr event, held outside a large mosque in the city's Parkside
neighborhood, came to a sudden end when some 30 shots rang out at about 2:30
p.m., Philadelphia police said.
Five
people were later taken into custody, including a 15-year-old boy who sustained
leg and shoulder wounds when he was shot by police and taken to the hospital by
an officer, authorities said. Police said he was carrying a gun.
Philadelphia
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel confirmed at a news conference that a police
vehicle responding to the 911 calls for help struck a 15-year-old girl who was
fleeing the park. He said the child suffered a leg injury.

US
said to believe Iranian attack on Israel is imminent: ‘Matter of when, not if’
11
Apr 2024
The
United States believes a major Iranian attack on Israel is imminent and could
happen in the coming days, according to a report Wednesday, as Iran reiterated
its vow to retaliate for an alleged Israeli strike in Syria that killed two
generals among several Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers.
Citing
people familiar with US and Israeli intelligence assessments, Bloomberg
reported Iran could launch strikes involving high-precision missiles and drones
targeting military and government sites in Israel.
Separately,
the Axios news site reported that Gen. Michael Kurilla, head of the US Central
Command, was expected to visit Israel on Thursday for consultations with
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and other officials to discuss the threat of an
Iranian attack.
The
report added that US and Israeli officials across various agencies have been in
contact over the last few days, as the countries prepare for a possible
response to the alleged Israeli strike on April 1 that hit an Iranian consulate
building in Damascus where the IRGC members were located.

This
is what Iranian revenge might look like, and which dilemmas Israel could face
By
AMIR BOHBOT
APRIL
11, 2024
The
security establishment is on high alert this week against the possibility that
Iran will react radically to the assassination of a senior Revolutionary Guards
Corps officer, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, in the heart of Damascus last week.
In
Israel, they estimate that Iran is determined to respond to the targeted
countermeasures. But they refused to comment on whether the assessments are
based on solid intelligence that also drew President Joe Biden to speak about
the commitment of the United States to the security of Israeli citizens against
Iranian aggression.
It
can be assumed that the response will not come directly from Iran, as it would
be followed by a direct response from Israel to Iran.
Be
that as it may, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdullahian,
repeated the threats two days ago during his visit to Damascus at the end of a
meeting with the heads of the Syrian regime.

"Today,
the support of the United States and Western countries, as well as the inaction

crimes of the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Gaza, has brought
unprecedented disgrace to these countries and organizations," he said.
The

Anti-Jewish
And Anti-Muslim Actors Grow 4x As Quickly On X, Exploiting Israel-Gaza Conflict
And Elon Musk’s Policy Changes
April
11, 2024
WASHINGTON,
D.C., 04/11/24 – Accounts posting anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim content about the
Israel-Gaza conflict are accumulating new followers on X at a significantly
higher rate since October 7, exploiting policy changes enacted under Elon
Musk’s ownership of the platform.
The
Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) studied ten influential X accounts –
each of whom has become notorious for spreading either anti-Jewish or
anti-Muslim hate – with a combined following of almost 7 million followers.
Each
of the accounts showed slow follower growth in the four months before October
7th, for a combined growth of approximately 1 million followers.
But
in the four months following the attack, they collectively gained 4 million new
followers. Collectively, this represented a four-fold growth compared to the
four months before October 7th.

New
Britain student advocates for day off as Muslims gather for Eid al-Fitr
By
Sydney Boyo
April

“Eid
al-Fitr actually is one of two major holidays that Muslims observe and
celebrate throughout the year,” Mobashar Akram of the Islamic Center of
Connecticut said. “This year we did not celebrate with the usual fervor. This
year, we’re just observing.”
Over
5,500 people from all over the Greater Hartford area showed up for prayer in
Hartford. For some observers, this meant missing work or school. However, only
some school districts, like New Haven, give students the day off.
“I
think we’ve made significant headway within several school districts, who are
recognizing the day as a day children need to take off,” Akram said.

Belarusian
authorities, after searching the Afghan’s belongings and finding his passport,
stated that he was 36 years old. Belarusian media have released images of his
body.
Since
August 2021, a significant exodus of Afghans has been witnessed as they seek

a combination of factors including a severe humanitarian crisis, limited job
prospects, and ongoing security threats, compelling many to seek a better
future elsewhere, particularly in Europe.
Upon
embarking on their journey, Afghans encounter numerous challenges as they
traverse through Turkey and neighbouring countries. These hurdles include
forced deportation, harassment, and the constant fear of persecution. Despite
these obstacles, many are determined to persevere in their quest for safety and

Morocco’s
earthquake killed thousands. But survivors marking Ramadan say it didn’t shake
their faith
BY
SAM METZ
April
11, 2024
AMIZMIZ,
Morocco (AP) — An earthquake months ago left parts of her home cracked and
crumbling, but Fatima Barri felt wrong spending Islam’s holy month of Ramadan
in a tent.
Thankful
to be spared by the 6.8-magnitude quake that killed thousands around her in
Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, she stood in her damaged house and cooked the
traditional meals to break the daily fasts. It felt safe enough, she said,
until a 3.3-magnitude tremor rumbled through two weeks ago.
Like
many of her neighbors, she’s tired of waiting for normal life to resume. For
months after the quake killed nearly 3,000 Moroccans in September, Barri stayed
in a hot and stuffy government-provided tent.
For
Ramadan, she and others honored their traditions amid the rubble, cooking
tagine in clay pots and making bread and tea on their stoves. On Wednesday, as
Eid al-Fitr began, the holiday mood for many Moroccans vacillated between
festiveness and despair.
During
the month of reflection, Barri appreciated the family and community gatherings
as well as small pleasures like the mint and verbena she replanted in buckets
near the debris on her roof.

Joyful
traditions of Eid in the Kingdom
NADA
HAMEED
April
10, 2024
JEDDAH:
Eid Al-Fitr festivities are in full swing in Saudi Arabia, and this joyous
occasion is not only a time for gratitude but also for cherished family
traditions and delicious sweets.
Eid
Al-Fitr, which marks the end of fasting, is one of Islam’s two official
festivals — the other being Eid Al-Adha. While the essence of the celebration
remains consistent, the customs and practices surrounding Eid Al-Fitr vary
across regions, each community adding its own touch while celebrating the
common theme of joy.
In
Saudi Arabia, the exchange of chocolates, sweets, new clothes and Eidiyah are
hallmarks of Eid Al-Fitr. Families gather to perform prayers at mosques, host
gatherings for meals and coffee, and extend acts of kindness to those in need.
A
prominent tradition during Eid is the emphasis on family unity. Generations
come together in the homes of elders to share stories, laughter and love.
Relatives from near and far reunite, strengthening familial bonds and creating
cherished memories.
In
every Saudi household, the aroma of burning bakhoor incense fills the air on
the eve of Eid. Traditional Arab Eid songs, such as “FarhaFarha” by Ali
Abdulkarim, Umm Kulthum’s legendary “YaLeilet El-Eid,” Safaa Abou As-Su’ood’s
“El-Eid Farha,” and Mohammed Abdu’s timeless “W Min Al-Aideen,” resonate from
loudspeakers, adding to the festive ambiance.
