“Hindu Society Will Not Tolerate Spit-Jihad Or Urine-Jihad: VHP Warns Ahead Of ‘Kanwar Yatra Symbol Of “National Unity And Harmony”
Jun 28, 2025
NEW DELHI: Warning against attacks on Kanwariyas, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said that the upcoming Kanwar Yatra is a symbol of “national unity and harmony” on Saturday. VHP also said that Bharat is progressing towards a new renaissance rooted in Hindutva, and called for a decisive end to religious conversions and reiterated its demand for liberation of temples from government control.
Surendra Jain, central joint general secretary, VHP said that due to the rising wave of Hindutva, the whole country is moving towards renaissance. Jain said, “The rising wave of Hindutva has infused the nation with a new energy. The world today looks at Bharat as a ray of hope.”
Jain asserted that while illegal conversions continue despite laws in several states, Hindu society “will no longer tolerate deceitful or forcible conversion attempts by Church and jihadi elements.” He added, “If they do not stop incidents like love jihad, both society and the government know how to deal with them.”
The VHP leader also announced the intensification of a national campaign to free Hindu temples from government control, citing cases such as alleged misuse of funds at Tirupati and awarding of temple offering contracts in Bengal to halal traders. “Secular governments have repeatedly failed to respect Hindu sentiments. Our temple liberation campaign, launched in Vijayawada on January 5, is aimed at restoring Hindu ownership of our places of worship,” he said.
On the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, warning against attacks on Kanwariyas, Jain said: “Hindu society will no longer tolerate spit-jihad or urine-jihad. Muslim organisations must rein in such elements.”

Pakistan's Asim Munir threatens India again, rekindles Kashmir issue
Jun 29, 2025
Asim Munir
--------
Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir on Saturday claimed that India had made two unprovoked attacks, terming it a troubling absence of strategic foresight.
Speaking at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, Munir blamed India for escalating regional tensions and vowed a decisive response to any future Indian aggression.
He further called Pakistan a "net regional stabiliser," claiming that Islamabad had responded "resolutely" to "unprovoked" Indian military aggression.
In the address, Munir once again brought up Kashmir, claiming that "at such a time, we must remember the sacrifices of our Kashmiri brothers who are struggling against India’s illegal occupation."

Iran’s FM Urges Trump to Stop Disrespect for Ayatollah Khamenei
June, 28, 2025
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi
--------
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the US president must put aside his disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei if he is genuine about seeking a deal with Iran.
“The complexity and tenacity of Iranians is famously known in our magnificent carpets, woven through countless hours of hard work and patience. But as a people, our basic premise is very simple and straightforward: we know our worth, value our independence, and never allow anyone else to decide our destiny,” Araqchi said in a post on his X account on Saturday.
“If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran's Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting his millions of heartfelt followers,” he said.
“The Great and Powerful Iranian People, who showed the world that the Israeli regime had NO CHOICE but to RUN to ‘Daddy’ to avoid being flattened by our Missiles, do not take kindly to Threats and Insults. If Illusions lead to worse mistakes, Iran will not hesitate to unveil its Real Capabilities, which will certainly END any Delusion about the Power of Iran,” Araqchi added.

Bangladesh has said that it remains firmly committed to safeguarding the rights of all communities and protecting places of worship but building religious structures on public land is not permissible "under any circumstance".
The Foreign Ministry's statement on Friday (June 27, 2025) came a day after India denounced the reported destruction of a Durga temple in Dhaka and stressed the responsibility of Bangladesh's interim government to protect Hindus as well as religious institutions.
The Ministry claimed that the temple in Dhaka's Khilkhet area was built on land owned by Bangladesh Railways, and its removal was carried out following due process to recover public land, the state-run BSS news agency reported.
It alleged that the temple started as a makeshift pavilion, with organisers attempting to make the temporary structure permanent despite repeated reminders.
On June 26, Bangladesh Railways proceeded with the "peaceful eviction of all unauthorised structures along the rail track in Khilkhet area," it said.
"While the laws of the land ensure full protection to all places of worship without discriminating against any built-in conformity with law, it is not permissible for any to build any religious structure encroaching public land under any circumstances," the Ministry said.
"Bangladesh remains firmly committed to safeguarding the rights of all communities, including protection of the places of worship," it added.
During a briefing on Thursday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We understand that extremists were clamouring for demolishing the Durga temple in Khilkhet, Dhaka." "The interim government, instead of providing security to the temple, projected the episode as illegal land use...and they allowed the destruction of the temple today," he said.
“This has resulted in damage to the deity before it was shifted. We are dismayed that such incidents continue to recur in Bangladesh,” he added.
Mr. Jaiswal underlined that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh "to protect Hindus, their properties, and religious institutions." The Hindu population in Bangladesh has been affected by a series of incidents against minority communities in the country.

Delhi HC Issues Notice To MCD On Contempt Plea Over Demolition Around Mosque In Mangolpuri
Jun 28, 2025
New Delhi: Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Municipal Corporation of Delhi on a contempt plea filed in the wake of the civic body's recent demolition drive around a mosque in northwest Delhi's Mangolpuri.
On June 25, a single bench of Justice Renu Bhatnagar asked MCD to file its response within a week. The notice came after petitioners Mangolpuri Muhammadi Jama Masjid and Madarsa Anwarul Uloom Welfare Association alleged that the demolitions were carried out without demarcating the encroached area, violating the court's Nov 2024 direction.
The court had directed MCD to indicate to the petitioner the area that was encroaching on public land and that it intended to remove. The petitioners claimed that no demarcation report was furnished to them and the demolition activity around the property commenced at 12am on June 25.
The counsel appearing for the civic body submitted that the encroached area was duly demarcated in the presence of the petitioners and the same was indicated in the presence of police officers and revenue authorities. He added that the demolition was undertaken only after such demarcation and the affixation of a requisition notice. The counsel promised to file a complete report along with relevant photographs.

BJP defends Waqf Law Amendment as step towards Muslim welfare
June 28, 2025
The BJP on Saturday defended the amended Waqf Act as a necessary reform aimed at improving the governance of Waqf properties and ensuring their benefits reach underprivileged sections of the Muslim community.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s Jharkhand headquarters, party national spokesperson and former Rajya Sabha MP Zafar Islam accused the Congress of having used Muslims solely for electoral purposes for decades.
Islam said the Modi government functions on the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” and that all eligible citizens, including Muslims, are benefitting from welfare schemes without discrimination.
He asserted that the amended law does not interfere in religious matters but is designed to curb irregularities in Waqf administration. “Waqf properties were created for the welfare of the poor. But these assets have often been misused or leased at undervalued rates, denying benefits to the community. The revised law addresses that misuse,” he said.

‘Some BJP MPs backing our Waqf stand’: Top Muslim body chief on eve of Patna rally
by Santosh Singh
June 29, 2025
After holding scores of protest meetings against the amended Waqf law across Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal, Imarat-e-Shariah, one of the country’s leading Muslim organisations, is set to hold a mega rally in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on Sunday to keep the heat on the BJP-led Centre over the row.
Imarat-e-Shariah, headquartered in Patna, has rejected the Waqf amendment legislation, calling for its withdrawal. The legislation was passed by Parliament in April.
In May, after hearing multiple petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, the Supreme Court reserved its decision on the prayer for interim directions.

IRGC Quds Force Chief Hails Iran’s Success
June, 28, 2025
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lauding Iran’s performance in fighting off the enemy in 12 days of war imposed by the Zionist regime and the US, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force Brigadier General EsmaeilQaani said the country has done well thus far.
Speaking to reporters at the funeral of over 60 Iranians who have been martyred in the Israeli regime’s war of aggression against Iran, held in Tehran on Saturday, Brigadier General Qaani said everything will be all right if everybody obeys Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The Zionist regime waged an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on June 13. It carried out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear, military and residential sites that resulted in the martyrdom of over 600 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.
The Iranian military forces started counterattacks immediately afterwards. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force carried out 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III that inflicted heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories.

Syrian Islamic Council declares its dissolution
29/06/2025
The Syrian Islamic Council announced its dissolution, along with all institutions affiliated with it, such as the Syrian Ifta Council and the Syrian Qurraa Council, in response to a request from the Syrian government.
A statement issued by the council on Saturday, June 28, stated that “the phase of the revolution against oppression and tyranny necessitated the establishment of various institutions to preserve the spark of the revolution and its compass, and the (Syrian Islamic Council) was one of those institutions.”
During its period of activity, the council formed a legitimate religious reference in public affairs, according to the statement, explaining that the dissolution of the council came in response to a request from the Syrian state, following the liberation of the country from the Assad regime.
Sheikh Osama al-Rifai headed the Syrian Islamic Council, and in November 2021, the council announced the unanimous election of Osama al-Rifai as the Grand Mufti of Syria, following the abolition of the previous regime’s position of Grand Mufti in areas under its control, according to a legislative decree issued on November 15, 2021.

A September 11-style scenario was ultimately not carried out
June 28, 2025
TEHRAN - In an article, Farhikhtegan analyzed an exclusive report by the Tehran Times, claiming that the Zionist regime had planned a destructive explosion on U.S. soil intended to be falsely attributed to Iran.
According to the article, the alleged false flag operation sought to fabricate evidence, implicate Iran, and provide a pretext for a full-scale U.S. war against the country. The plan—reportedly aimed at manipulating American public opinion and legitimizing military aggression—was uncovered through intelligence received from a friendly nation. Upon learning of the scheme, Iran reportedly sent warnings to American officials, leading to the plan’s disruption. Although the United States played a highly active role in Israel’s 12-day war against Iran, the operation was designed to fully draw Washington into the conflict by replicating the shock and political consequences of the September 11 attacks.
In an analysis, Sobh-e-No highlighted Israel’s history of breaching agreements and lack of commitment to ceasefires and the need for Iran to remain fully ready for violation of the ceasefire that went into effect on June 25. It wrote: Despite the official declaration of a ceasefire between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Zionist regime, historical evidence shows that the Israeli regime often does not commit to agreements. This ceasefire agreement has seemingly created hope for a temporary halt to attacks. The Islamic Republic of Iran must continue to maintain its vigilance at the highest level. Complete defensive and operational readiness, along with strengthening defense and intelligence systems, is necessary to deal with any betrayal or re-attack by the Zionist regime. At the same time, the country's diplomatic apparatus must reflect the regime's repeated violations of international rules and inform the global public opinion of the unreliable nature of Israel. In the current circumstances, trusting the Zionist regime's commitment to a ceasefire without deterrent measures and full readiness would be nothing more than naivety. This regime has repeatedly shown that it does not adhere to any of international rules and regulations. Therefore, staying prepared and alert is the only way to protect the country's national security.
In a note, Donya-e-Eqtesad addressed Iran's intelligent silence towards the West and wrote: The ceasefire that was recently agreed between Iran and Israel with Washington's mediation was not out of moral concern or for peace, but to prevent the spread of tension to energy markets and America's global competition with China. America's military involvement in the recent war was limited and calculated. Trump has adopted an ambivalent position. In response to the recent conflict, he said: "Both Iran and Israel violated the agreement, and I am not happy with either of them." This artificial neutrality is precisely a reflection of the same cost-oriented view of the region. Therefore, now that neither Washington has an incentive to continue sanctions nor Tel Aviv - consciously or unintentionally - has maintained the image of a threat, Iran should not rush to prove that it is a danger. The best response at this moment is an intelligent silence. In politics, you don't always have to speak for yourself. Sometimes it is

Dan Patrick tells local GOP chair to resign for posting online poll on Jews, Muslims
GROMER JEFFERS JR.
29-06-2025
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Friday demanded that Tarrant County Republican Party Chairman Bo French resign after the GOP leader posted a social media poll on whether Muslims or Jews posed the “biggest threat to America.”
“Bo French’s words do not reflect my values nor the values of the Republican Party,” Patrick wrote on the social media platform X. “Antisemitism and religious bigotry have no place in Texas.”
This week on X, French posted the question: “Who is a bigger threat to America? Underneath were two choices: Jews or Muslims. The results were tabulated until he deleted the post.
He said he posted the poll “following the election of an Islamic communist while I am also working to expose the radical islamists (sic) in Tarrant County.”
“I respect the lieutenant governor and the good work he’s doing,” he wrote. “I strongly disagree with his assessment of this situation.”

No American will be safe if senior clerics are threatened: IRGC commander
June 28, 2025
During a speech on Saturday, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi issued a warning to the United States and Israel over recent threats against the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking Shi’a religious authorities, denouncing the statements as dangerous, unlawful, and tantamount to state-sponsored terrorism.
“Even imagining aggression against the Shi’a religious authorities will place every single American military and civilian official in the region at risk,” Naqdi said.
Referring directly to Trump’s latest remarks, he added: “Because of his foolishness, Trump failed to grasp the meaning of Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani’s message, and continues to repeat his idiotic threats. Let me explain the message clearly: any act of aggression—whether successful or not—against any Shi’a Marja will ensure that no American agent leaves the region alive.”

‘Only One To Focus On New York’: Republicans Laud NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani; Contrasts Earlier Criticism
Jun 29, 2025
In a surprising departure from usual partisan rhetoric, prominent Republican figures, including Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and political commentator Tucker Carlson, have extended rare praise to New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, acknowledging his grassroots-focused campaign strategy, even as they continue to oppose his political ideology.
Mamdani, a Muslim and Indian-American assemblyman, pulled a surprise victory in the Democratic primary this week, defeating former New York governor Andrew Cuomo.
Carlson, on his show, lauded Mamdani’s debate performance for staying focused on New York’s local issues while other candidates discussed foreign policy.
“That guy was the only person in the New York City mayor’s debate to say he wanted to focus on New York City. They were, all the candidates were asked if you could visit a foreign country, what would it be? And they all, of course, all had an answer. I think most said Israel,” Carlson said during the Friday episode of “The Tucker Carlson Show.”

For many South Asians and Muslims, Mamdani’s win in New York gives them hope
By Terry Tang
June 28, 2025
The success of Zohran Mamdani in New York City’s Democratic primary for mayor is thrilling for Hari Kondabolu, a stand-up comedian who’s been friends with him for 15 years.
Mamdani stunned the political establishment when he declared victory in the primary on Tuesday, a ranked-choice election in which his strongest competition, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, conceded defeat.
When he launched his campaign, the democratic socialist ranked near the bottom of the pack. Now, the 33-year-old state assemblyman has a chance to be New York City’s first Asian American and Muslim mayor.
Mamdani’s family came to the United States when he was 7, and he became a citizen in 2018. He was born to Indian parents in Kampala, Uganda.
“I think so many of us have had those experiences in New York of being brown and in a city that has always been really diverse and feels like ours. But after 9/11, like you start to question it like, is this our city too?” Kondabolu said. “And 25 years later ... it’s surreal, like this is the same city but it’s not because we’ve elected this person.”

The struggle to raise devout children in a post-religious world
June 29, 2025
One of the most painful realities of our time is the gradual erosion of religious identity among younger generations of Muslims, especially those raised in non-Muslim lands. This is no longer a mere concern—it has become an undeniable truth facing the global Muslim community.
Choosing to raise children in non-Islamic societies has significant consequences. While the allure of better opportunities, safety, or education may drive families to settle in the West, it often comes at a hidden cost: the weakening, or even complete loss, of their children’s Islamic identity. As some warn, “Choosing life in the land of disbelief leads to losing your children. You can never guarantee their protection from losing faith.” This is not simply emotional rhetoric, but a stark observation drawn from real experiences across communities.
The signs of faith erosion are clear. In environments where dominant values fundamentally conflict with Islamic teachings, children are bombarded daily with ideas that slowly, but surely, chip away at their religious beliefs. Families who are not actively engaged in faith-based upbringing, who do not connect with Muslim communities, or who fail to create an Islamic environment at home, are the most vulnerable.
They often witness their children being swept away by the prevailing culture, and the damage isn’t always visible until it’s too late.
But this issue is not limited to the West. Even in the heart of Muslim-majority countries, we find youth who appear Muslim by name and culture, but whose inner belief is hollow. The widespread influence of the internet, globalized media, and liberal secular values has dismantled traditional barriers, bringing foreign ideologies directly into our homes. These influences present a version of life that often contradicts Islamic principles while appearing more attractive, liberating, or “modern.”

Call for unity grows at Islami Andolan rally in SuhrawardyUdyan
28 Jun 2025
Islamist political parties have voiced a collective ambition to emerge as a dominant force in national politics, pushing for unity and sweeping electoral reforms ahead of the general election.
At a “mass” rally organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh in Dhaka’s SuhrawardyUdyan, top leaders from several faith-based groups, including Jamaat-e-Islami, said they had reached a common understanding and may contest the election jointly.
The event, held on Saturday, also demanded the introduction of a proportional representation system, judicial reform, and a “neutral” interim government.
The first session of the day began at 10am on Saturday with Quran recitation, followed by speeches from district- and city-level leaders who arrived from across the country.
Supporters from all over Bangladesh had begun arriving since morning by bus, gathering around Shahbagh, MatsyaBhaban, Press Club, DoelChattar, and the Central Shaheed Minar area.

Power, dominance and the fractured Middle East
BY Ahmed Mayouf
Jun 29, 2025
In the years following the incomplete revolutions of the Arab Spring, a fundamental reality has come into sharper focus: nearly every state, whether powerful or peripheral, seeks to assert hegemony—be it political, economic, cultural or military. This pursuit of influence is not confined to global superpowers. It is a defining feature of international relations today, shaped by a fluid global order where national interests increasingly override shared principles.
While some states have resisted such efforts—either through internal cohesion between the people and their rulers, or through the endurance of institutional structures—external attempts at domination have continued. The erosion of the post-war international system and the decline of multilateral norms have only emboldened expansionist actors. In this shifting landscape, two powers—Iran and Israel—stand out as key architects of new regional dynamics. Each pursues a distinct project of influence, shaped by history, ideology, and hard power. Yet, the implications of their ambitions differ in scope and consequence.
Since the 1979 revolution, Iran has pursued a long-term vision to shape the Middle East through a combination of ideological influence, strategic alliances, and calculated geopolitical manoeuvres. Ayatollah Khomeini’s call for “exporting the revolution” and “awakening the Islamic world” signalled Tehran’s intent to become the vanguard of a transnational Islamic resurgence. While this rhetoric was not explicitly aimed at dismantling nation-states, it did promote political independence from Western powers and a reimagined regional order grounded in Islamic unity.
Over the decades, Iran has operationalised this vision by forging alliances with non-state actors and governments that share its opposition to Western dominance. From Hezbollah in Lebanon, to the Houthis in Yemen, to the Popular Mobilisation Forces in Iraq, and its enduring alliance with the Assad regime in Syria, Iran has developed a regional network of influence that has proven highly resilient.
Iran’s perception of threat has been equally influential in shaping its strategy. The presence of American military bases across the Gulf, alongside Israel’s regional footprint, is viewed in Tehran as a direct challenge to its sovereignty and national security. In response, Iran has pursued “strategic depth” by projecting power beyond its borders, establishing influence over neighbouring states, and controlling chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz—a vital artery through which 20% of the world’s oil and gas flows. This geographical leverage has enhanced its bargaining power not only with regional actors but with global powers reliant on energy security.
Yet Iran’s ambitions are not pursued through outright occupation. Instead, it relies on ideological appeal, asymmetrical warfare, and proxy networks. Through this approach, it has carved a sphere of influence that extends from the Persian Gulf to the eastern Mediterranean—a formation often referred to as the “Shia Crescent.” Despite some setbacks, particularly in Syria following shifts in the Assad regime’s fortunes, Iran has succeeded in embedding itself within the region’s political and security landscape.

Jeddah exhibition gives internet cafes an artistic reboot
Nada Alturki
June 28, 2025
JEDDAH: Internet cafes in Jeddah were once popular spots with pay-by-the-hour internet access; they have now provided the inspiration for the city’s latest exhibition.
In a collaboration between Kham Space and Estiraha, 17 artists and collectives have had their work on display at “Internet Cafe,” an eight-day exhibition which explored the concept of connection and intimacy in the digital age.
Abeer Sultan, who curated the exhibition alongside MbarakMadhi and Fai Ahmed, spoke to Arab News about the early process in contemplating the theme.
The idea for the exhibition, which concluded on Saturday, stemmed from an exasperation over incessant scrolling, and the deluge of information that has usurped our daily lives.
She said: “We wanted to do something that is about us now, and maybe the future as well; not only going back to things for nostalgia or the good old days, as they say.
“Maybe it has something that we can use today, especially now that there’s a movement of people trying to slow down, using dumbified devices throughout the internet.”

From froth to power: Muslim ummah behind a US lobby
by Yusuf Jaffar
June 28, 2025
The relentlessness of the Gaza holocaust has been exhausting for even the most committed advocates for Palestinian liberation. A sense of disillusionment with global powers has never been more palpable. Yet to Muslims, the apathy and betrayal of Arab rulers is that much more painful.
Not that the masses have been sitting on their hands. Muslims worldwide, among thousands of human beings of conscience, have shown up to protest the monstrosity of Israel’s atrocities. But have these demonstrations affected change?
Civil disobedience, in all of its various forms, is vital to resistance. On its own, however, it rarely leads to systemic change. In the US, the preeminent source of Israel’s legitimacy and funding, real lasting change comes from engaging with the system — particularly through lobbying.
Since America’s top-level support for Israel has been engendered by decades of intense lobbying, efforts to balance the scales to include the Palestinian perspective have to be driven by similar political campaigning.
With the global sentiment shifting decisively against the settler colonial state, now is the time to move beyond protest to press for a permanent end to oppression and a just resolution for Palestine. It is high time to harness the power of the average Muslim, our combined riches and attachment to Al-Aqsa.

Drones and missiles targeted Cherkasy, Lviv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Kyiv, injuring a dozen people, destroying residential buildings and storage facilities, as well as critical infrastructure around the country, the officials said.
Neighboring Poland scrambled jets and activated its ground-based air defense units into readiness mode because of the attacks across the border in Ukraine.

Hamzah denies plot to oust Muhyiddin, says only outsiders spreading ‘baseless gossip’ to divide Perikatan
By Malay Mail
29 Jun 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has reportedly denied any rift within Perikatan Nasional (PN) and its lynchpin PartiPribumi Bersatu Malaysia, saying critics were merely trying to divide the Opposition pact.
“Who’s trying to remove whom? If someone were trying to oust him, surely I would be the first to know. But why am I not aware of anything?
Hamzah who is Muhyiddin’s deputy in both PN and Bersatu, said it would be foolish for anyone to plan an ouster without discussing the succession plan with him.
“If someone did try and I said I wasn’t interested, then what? What would happen? It would be foolish for anyone to act alone without discussing who’s supposed to take over,” he said.

APC chieftain urges Tinubu to drop Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2027
28th June 2025
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Usman AbubakarSandaji, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging a return to religious balancing in national leadership.
Sandaji, who made this known in an exclusive interview with Sunday Sun on Saturday, argued that Nigeria remains a secular state and that the principle of inclusion should guide future choices for national cohesion and electoral success.
“Next time, we want a Muslim-Christian ticket. Nigeria is a secular country. Religion should not be a determinant, but for equity and balance, that’s what we expect,” he stated.
He noted that despite the criticism the Muslim-Muslim ticket faced in 2023, “the Constitution does not prohibit it, but we must listen to all concerns. The choice of a vice president should be strategic and inclusive.”
Following the president’s visit on Wednesday to commission projects, Sandaji praised the peaceful nature of the visit and acknowledged the successful commissioning of major infrastructure projects by Governor AbdullahiSule.

How aide blocked Yar’Adua’s letter seeking to make me acting president — Jonathan
Adam Mosadioluwa
June 28, 2025
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that a presidential aide blocked the delivery of a letter from late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to the National Assembly, which was meant to make him acting president during Yar’Adua’s prolonged illness.
Speaking in a recent interview, Jonathan recounted the political tension and the delicate balance of power between the North and South, and between Muslims and Christians, which was severely tested when Yar’Adua, a Northern Muslim, fell gravely ill while in office.
“There’s always a balancing between North and South, Muslims and Christians. And Yar’Adua was a Northern Muslim who was the president and he took over from a Southern Christian, Obasanjo, who ruled for eight years. So, definitely the Northern Muslims wanted Yar’Adua to at least do eight years before power would come back to the South probably to another Christian to take over. But his health issues came up and it was a problem. That’s why even to allow me to act as president was an issue,” Jonathan said.
He explained that although Yar’Adua had followed constitutional procedure by writing a letter to the National Assembly to enable the transfer of authority, the aide entrusted with delivering the letter refused to do so.

A tribute to AlhajiAminuDantata: Merchant prince who bridged tradition and modernity
By Engr. Jani Ibrahim
29 Jun 2025
Today, we bid farewell to one of Nigeria’s most remarkable sons, AlhajiAminuDantata, who passed away on June 28, 2025, at the age of 94. His death marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in Nigerian business history and the conclusion of a life that spanned nearly a century of transformative change in our beloved nation.
Born into the illustrious Dantata merchant dynasty on May 19, 1931, in Kano, Aminu was destined for greatness. As the son of the legendary AlhassanDantata, one of West Africa’s wealthiest men, he inherited not just material wealth, but a profound understanding of commerce, integrity, and service to humanity. Yet what makes his story truly remarkable is how he took this inheritance and multiplied it beyond imagination, creating a business empire that would span multiple generations and sectors.
When Aminu assumed leadership of the family business at just 29 years old following his brother’s death in 1960, few could have predicted the extraordinary transformation that would follow. Under his stewardship, what began as a traditional trading company evolved into the modern Dantata Organization—a sprawling conglomerate that touched every aspect of Nigerian economic life.
His vision extended far beyond profit margins. Through AlhassanDantata and Sons Group, he helped build the physical infrastructure of our nation—from the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna to extensions at Ahmadu Bello University. His companies didn’t just construct buildings; they constructed the foundation of modern Nigeria.
AminuDantata was never content to simply keep the status quo. As a pioneer in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector through Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd, he demonstrated the foresight to position his business at the heart of Nigeria’s emerging petroleum economy. His role in establishing Jaiz Bank, Nigeria’s first Islamic bank, showed his commitment to creating financial institutions that reflected our cultural values while serving modern economic needs.
His international perspective, gained through extensive travels that took him to every corner of the world by the 1950s and 1960s, gave him unique insights into global business practices. Yet he never lost sight of his Nigerian roots or his responsibility to contribute to his homeland’s development.
Perhaps most remarkably, AminuDantata’s greatest legacy lies not in the businesses he built, but in the lives he quietly transformed through his philanthropy. Without fanfare or publicity, he funded schools, hospitals, mosques, and countless social welfare programs across Northern Nigeria and beyond.
