Former Hamas Chief Khaled Meshaal Virtually Addresses
Rally Against Hindutva, Zionism in Kerala's Mallapuram
Oct 29, 2023
Hamas leader addressed rally against Hinduism, Zionism
-------------
KOCHI: Former Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal virtually
addressed a rally in support of Palestinians organised by a Jamaat-e-Islami
Hind-aligned outfit in Kerala's Malappuram on Friday, sparking a row as BJP
termed it an "alarming glorification of terrorists" and asked how the
Left-governed state allowed it.The organisers - Solidarity Youth Movement (SYM)
- dismissed the controversy, asserting in a press note that Hamas is a
"resistance movement" and Meshaal a "freedom fighter".
Meshaal's pre-recorded video address in Arabic was
beamed on a screen at the Youth Resistance Rally, which had the tagline
"Uproot Bulldozer Hindutva and Apartheid Zionism". The organisers had
announced that another Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, would also virtually
address the rally, but he did not.
State BJP president K Surendran termed the instance
"alarming". "Where is (CM) PinarayiVijayan's police? Under the
disguise of 'Save Palestine' they are glorifying Hamas, a terrorist
organisation and its leaders as 'warriors'. This is unacceptable,"
Surendran wrote on X while sharing a photo of Meshal's virtual address.
The organisers justified Meshaal's virtual presence at
the event. "The Palestinian Legislative Council is an influential movement
in Gaza and the West Bank. The party won 74 of 132 seats in the last election.
There is nothing unusual about the leader of such an organisation speaking at a
Palestinian solidarity event in Malappuram," SYM state president CT
Shuhaib said in a statement.
"Hamas is not an active or banned organisation in
India. So, the presence of a Hamas leader in the event is not against
law," the SYM state president said.
The SYM functionary alleged a plot to muzzle protests
and voices. "Sangh parivar has been conspiring to label those standing
with Palestine as terrorists by spreading false propaganda. By doing so, it is
trying to suppress the public protests against India's support to Israel,"
Shuhaib said.

'Gaza Alone Defends Al-Aqsa Mosque and Islamic,
Christian Holy Sites': Head Of The Hamas-Controlled Government Press Office
Anadolu staff
28.10.2023
GAZA, Palestine
-----------------
The head of the government media office in Gaza, Salama
Marouf, said on Saturday evening that Gaza stands alone today in defence of
Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Addressing a press conference in front of Al-Shifa
Hospital in Gaza, Marouf stated: “Today, Gaza stands alone in the face of the
occupation in defense of Al-Aqsa Mosque and all our Islamic and Christian holy
sites, even after 22 days of this holocaust.”
The Palestinian group had initiated Operation Al-Aqsa
Flood -- a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket
launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air. It said the
incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing
violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.
Israel responded with an uninterrupted campaign of air
raids, which intensified Friday night along with ground activities amid a
complete blackout of telecommunications and internet networks.
At least 7,703 Palestinians, including 3,595 children,
have been killed in the Israeli attacks, while the death toll in Israel stands
at more than 1,400.
Gaza's 2.3 million residents are also grappling with
shortages of food, water, and medicine due to Israel’s blockade of the enclave.
Only a few aid trucks have crossed into Gaza since the opening of the Rafah
crossing point last weekend.
The UN General Assembly late Friday approved a
resolution calling for a humanitarian truce, but Israel's Foreign Minister Eli
Cohen called it “despicable” and rejected it.

Jewish, Muslim chaplains navigate US campus tensions
as Israel-Hamas war rages
By AGENCIES
28 October 2023

Star of David pattern to hold solidarity and vigil for Israel on Wednesday,

----------------
For many of the university chaplains and faith leaders
caring for students angered and shaken by the Israel-Hamas war, the needs are
acute, the days intense. The bloodshed has roiled campuses in the United
States, at times sparking rival rallies and competing demands.
Kaiser Aslam, Muslim chaplain at the Center for
Islamic Life at Rutgers University, has been helping students wrestling with
complex questions and anxieties — from why there is suffering to whether public
advocacy for Palestinians or criticism of Israel could jeopardize future career
opportunities or spark other repercussions. Some, he said, are grieving family
members killed during Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Rabbi Esther Reed, with Rutgers Hillel,
recalled trying to comfort a student who was sobbing uncontrollably on learning
a friend was killed in Israel in the Oct. 7 massacre by Hamas terrorists that
triggered the latest fighting. Another student, she said, asked if police could
escort her from class to her dorm, afraid to walk alone.
In this charged and polarizing climate, chaplains and
campus ministries are navigating tensions as they console and guide students gripped
with anger, pain, confusion or fear stemming from the new violence, old
grievances, and the emerging narratives of the war and the broader
Israel-Palestinian conflict.
They’ve been helping organize vigils, leading prayers,
providing community, lending an empathetic ear and sending messages of hope.

Some say it’s been a particularly complex and testing
time because of the scope of lives lost and depth of suffering, the inflamed
passions and the heated debates on some campuses — including over the positions
of their own universities.
At Northwestern University, Tahera Ahmad, associate
chaplain and director of interfaith engagement, helped organize a “prayers for
Palestine” event where she and some students recited verses from the Quran, the
Muslim holy book.
“It was an opportunity for students to just be in a
space … where they can breathe together and listen to very calming
recitations,” said Ahmad, a Muslim. “There is a deep call in the Quran, or our
scripture, for standing up for justice.”
“We may not have all the answers, but we are there …
for our students to process the grief that they’re feeling, but also to think
about what does this mean,” she said. “While our role is very much one of
pastoral care and ministry of presence, they are looking for us to also raise a
moral consciousness because spirituality cannot be void of social justice.”

the community gather holding placards and flags to hold solidarity and vigil

Across campuses, some students have demanded explicit
and strong condemnations of the attacks by Hamas terrorists, who stormed from
the Gaza Strip into nearby Israeli towns, butchering some 1,400 people, most of
them civilians, and abducting over 230. Others have sought acknowledgment of
Palestinian suffering plus condemnation of the killing of Palestinian civilians
in Israeli airstrikes that have flattened buildings and homes in Gaza and
forced many to evacuate.
As colleges issued statements on the war, many faced
criticisms of, among other things, not going far enough or fast enough in
condemning Hamas’ attacks, or failing to denounce civilian deaths in Gaza.
Chaplains say some students have been feeling
alienated, marginalized, hurt or intimidated by the rhetoric and positions of
some administrators, faculty members or other students. Many students on
different sides are increasingly concerned about hate and fearful of
anti-Muslim and antisemitic vitriol or assaults.
Rabbi Daniel Levine with the Orange County Hillel in
California views his work since the Hamas attacks and ensuing war as his most
important yet.
“You have students that are in the most need of
pastoral care and also the most need in terms of helping process their own
identity and understanding geopolitics,” he said. The psychological toll on
students, he said, comes as many are still figuring out “who they are and how
connected they are to Judaism and where does Israel play a role into all that.”
“If they need to cry, I’m there for them,” he said.
“If they want to discuss the background of the geopolitical Israeli-Palestinian
conflict, which is obviously a very complex and intense conversation, I’m here
to do that.”
More students than usual have been attending Shabbat
dinners, though some have worried about the safety of going to events, he said.
Levine and his wife hosted local Jewish alumni and graduate students to provide
community and a space to grieve.

“We’re going to come out the other side,” he said.
“Don’t give up on your education. Don’t give up on being Jewish. Don’t give up
on humanity.”
Back at Rutgers, where Aslam said the student body
includes large Muslim and Jewish communities as well as international students,
divisions have mirrored those on some other campuses.
Chief Experience Officer at Rutgers Hillel, Rabbi
Esther Reed, poses for a photograph on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, in New
Brunswick, N.J. (AP Photo/Andres Kudacki)
“Some students are getting very significantly involved
… I want to be mindful for them to take care of themselves,” he said. To those
who are fearful or uncertain, he gives “consolation that your voice does matter
and there are ways of maybe being involved and you can draw some strength in
your faith.”
While the war left some questioning the point of
prayers, it’s prompted many others to practice their religion more than ever,
organizing vigils and prayers, he said.
“Faith allows us to get through our humanity with more
beauty and eloquence,” he said. “Using the theology to actually comfort them in
those moments becomes a very important role.”
Rabbi Reed said the Rutgers Hillel held a listening
session during which counseling professionals talked to Jewish students about
coping strategies and taking care of their mental health under stress.
“It’s been exhausting,” Reed said. “We have our own
worries and fears and family members and perhaps losses and so there’s the
weight of caring for our students on top of our own concerns.”
While it’s been business as usual for many students,
tensions have simmered among those affected by the war, mostly along political
lines, she said, adding that “there are Jewish students who support the
Palestinian cause; there are Muslims who care about Jewish lives lost.”
Faith leaders of different religions at Rutgers
discussed whether it would be fruitful to bring those of different views
together for a processing session, Reed said.
Aslam said that he and some others believe dialogue
can, and should, take place at such a sensitive moment. “We don’t need to just
protect our students,” he said. “I want our students to grow in understanding
that others are feeling pain, anger and insecurity.”

the community gather holding placards and flags to hold solidarity and vigil
for Israel on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, in New Brunswick, N.J. (AP Photo/Andres

Reed said that she’s “always open to bringing people
together in conversation, but it feels very raw right now.” And if Israel
carries out a ground operation in Gaza — which Israel said Saturday it’s
expanding— and the deaths further mount on both sides, she said, “it’s going to
be difficult for people to be able to listen to one another’s stories in the
middle of it.”

Bangladesh is building memorial to honour Indian
heroes of 1971 war
DINAKAR PERI
October 29, 2023
A model of a memorial building that Bangladesh is
making for Indian soldiers who participated in the 1971 Bangladesh War. P
-----------------
A memorial to honour the Indian soldiers who
sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 at Ashuganj
in Bangladesh is in the advanced stages of completion. It will have the names
of around 1,600 Indian soldiers inscribed on it. It is expected to be ready by
December and the effort is to have it inaugurated by Prime Minister of the two
Prime Ministers in March or April, said A.K.M. Mozammel Haque, Bangladeshi
Minister for Liberation War Affairs.
This will be the first memorial in Bangladesh to
exclusively honour Indian soldiers from the 1971 war. The foundation stone for
the memorial at Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in March 2021.
“The foundation for the monument was laid by the two
Prime Ministers. The idea is by December it will be finished. All the names of
the Indian soldiers martyred will be engraved so that everybody can know who
are these people who sacrificed for our emancipation, for our liberation,” Mr.
Haque said speaking on the sidelines of an event at the Bangladeshi High
Commission on Thursday.
We will try to invite both the Prime Ministers, he
said noting there are elections in both countries. “That is why we are thinking
by March or April we will try to inaugurate it, by both the Prime Ministers,”
he stated.
Major Chandrakant Singh, VrC, a 1971 war veteran and
author of several books on the war, the latest on Lt Gen Sagat Singh then 4
Corps Commander, introduced Mr. Haque as the first Bangladeshi who attacked the
Pakistan Army in 1971. “I feel happy and proud to have been associated with
this project. My battalion 4 Guards captured Ashuganj on December 08, 1971,” he
told The Hindu.
Ashuganj is relatively close to India bordering
Tripura and can be reached by road from India. The idea was to have it close to
the border with India, said Lt Col QuaziSazzad Ali Zahir, a Bangladeshi war
veteran of 1971 and who actively worked on the history project. He said that
the memorial in a sprawling complex is intended to spread awareness of the war
among the youth and will also have a children’s recreation facility on the
premises. Ashuganj had particular significance in the liberation war as Indian
forces advanced to Dhaka by crossing the Meghna river.
Mr. Modi visited Bangladesh in March 2021 to join the
celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh, the birth
centenary of the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50
years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. “I
salute the brave soldiers of the Indian Army who stood with the brothers and
sisters of Bangladesh in Muktijuddo… those who gave their blood in Muktijuddo,
sacrificed themselves and played a very big role in realising the dream of
independent Bangladesh,” Mr. Modi had said in his address and announced that
India will donate military equipment used by the Indian armed forces in the
Liberation War for museums in Bangladesh.

Iranian agents plotting to stoke tensions during
pro-Gaza protests, UK police sources say

Iranian agents are planning to provoke tensions during
pro-Gaza protests, UK police have warned.
The agents are linked to the Iranian government, and
their plans include online disinformation as well as a physical presence at
protests, counterterrorism officers said, per The Times of London.
The sources clarified that the main organizers of the
protests across the country were not linked to Iran, and that the provocateurs
dispatched by Tehran were infiltrating on the fringes.
The UK's counter-extremism commissioner, Robin Simcox,
said last week that the "scale of Iranian-backed activity in this country;
and the extent to which Iran attempts to stoke extremism here" was
under-estimated, per The Times.
A pro-Gaza rally in London last week had over 100,000
protesters, and this Saturday's rally is expected to draw an even bigger crowd,
on the day Israel expanded its military operations in the Gaza territory,
following weeks of mobilization.
The Metropolitan Police has said officers will
intervene if there are "jihad" chants after officers received
backlash for not arresting protesters behind such chants last week. A thousand
officers were expected to be on duty.
Although the US has said there is no direct evidence
connecting Iran to the deadly Hamas attack on Israel, analysts note that the
country is a major source of funding for the militant group.
Following the October 7 Hamas terrorist attacks that
killed 1,400 people, Israel has bombarded Gaza with airstrikes, killing more
than 6,500 people, per the Gaza Health Ministry.

The Youth Congress has filed a complaint with Kerala's
Director General of Police, demanding legal action against the "false
propaganda" being spread on social media in connection with a viral video
showing an argument between a woman and burqa-clad college students on a bus.
The complaint, filed by Youth Congress leader JS
Akhil, said that last week in Kasargod a group of college students protested
against the bus driver for not halting at their stop.
The complaint further said the students stood on the
road until the bus stopped and they boarded. A woman passenger questioned the

UN Gaza vote: Opposition slams India's stand; BJP says
can't side with terror
Oct 29, 2023
NEW DELHI: Joined by several opposition parties,
Congress' Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on
Saturday said she was 'shocked and ashamed' over New Delhi's decision to
abstain from voting on the UN resolution on Gaza. "To refuse to take a
stand and watch in silence as every law of humanity is pulverised and food, water, medical supplies, communication and power is cut
off as people in Palestine are being annihilated goes against everything our
country has stood for," she said.
BJP said India's position has been consistent and that
it will 'never be on the side of terrorism.' India's explanation of the vote
spelt this out clearly, the party said.
Congress and Left parties attacked the Modi government
over its decision to abstain from voting on UN resolution on Gaza, drawing a
sharp riposte from BJP which stressed that the resolution was silent on Hamas'
brutality and India could "never be on the side of terrorism", while
also calling the opponents out over their participation in a rally allegedly
addressed by a leader of Hamas.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad powers can’t be compared to 10
years ago: Kharrazi
October 28, 2023
TEHRAN – Kamal Kharrazi, the director of the Strategic
Council on Foreign Relations (SCFR), says the military power of Hamas and the
Islamic Jihad is not comparable to 10 years ago and they are ready for a long
battle.
In an interview with the Al Alam news network aired on
Saturday, Kharrazi also says the Zionist regime’s army will face a “guerrilla
war” if it enters the Gaza Strip.
“Guerrilla wars are naturally protracted and America
experienced a guerrilla war in Vietnam and could not defeat the Vietnamese.
This is the situation in Gaza as well, the war continues, and certainly the
Zionist regime will not achieve any results,” the SCFR chief predicts.
The veteran politician believes Israel cannot destroy
the resistance in the Gaza Strip, saying blockading the coastal enclave from
land, sea and air have failed to do so.

Egypt's President Sissi Calls Region a ‘Ticking Time
Bomb’
Edward Yeranian
October 28, 2023
CAIRO — Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi warned
Saturday against expanding the conflict in Gaza, calling the entire region a
"ticking time bomb."
Lebanon's Hezbollah, another Iranian proxy militia,
also has been firing rockets and other shells at northern Israel since the
conflict began, including a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli drone along
the two nations’ border Saturday.
After several apparent drone and rocket attacks along
Egypt's northern border Friday, which left a number of people wounded, Sissi
warned Saturday against expanding the nearly three-week-old Gaza conflict to
other parts of the region, including Egypt.
Yemen's Houthi militia group, which controls much of
northern Yemen and a coastline along the Red Sea, is an ally of both Iran and
Lebanon's Hezbollah. It has used Iranian-supplied drones to attack cities
inside neighboring Saudi Arabia in the past. This is the first report of Houthi
drones attacking Egypt.
As Israeli attacks intensify against the pro-Iranian
Hamas militia that controls Gaza, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian
warned Saturday that "groups which are Iran's allies are prepared to act
if the war in Gaza continues." He said that [Iran's allies] "have
enough rockets, missiles and drones that they can access as the need
arises."

28/October/2023
SANA'A October 28.2023 (Saba)-A meeting of the Joint

regional and international scene.
The meeting, which was attended by Youssef al-Fishi
and Ali al-Qahum from Ansar Allah, and the secretaries of all the joint parties
and their political circles, confirmed full support for what Commander
Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi will take regarding the Zionist entity
crossing the red lines in its aggression against Gaza and any steps that would
confirm the unity of the Islamic nation in victory for the cause. The Palestinian
Authority is facing the ugliest Western alliance with the Zionist entity
against the Palestinian people.
The meeting condemned the heinous daily massacres
committed by the Zionist enemy entity against the Palestinians in light of the
shameful silence of the United Nations, the international community, human

Bangladesh's Main Opposition Leader Arrested Day After
Big Protest: Party
October 29, 2023
Dhaka: Bangladesh's main opposition leader was
detained by authorities on Sunday morning, a day after giant protests against
the prime minister ahead of elections due in three months, his party said.
"Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been picked up
by officers of the law enforcing agency," the Bangladesh Nationalist Party
said in a statement.

Europe
Labour must beware of tearing itself apart over the
horrific conflict in Gaza
Andrew Rawnsley
29 October 2023
As fate would have it, the recent Labour conference in
Liverpool opened the day after Hamas started its deadly incursion into southern
Israel to seize hostages and commit barbaric acts of terror. Sir Keir Starmer
led his party in unequivocal denunciations of the atrocities, combined with
unambiguous expressions of support for Israel as it reeled in horror at the
single biggest act of antisemitic mass-murder on its soil since the Jewish
state came into existence. The following day, Angela Rayner led the conference
in a minute’s silence in remembrance of the victims.
The leadership team worried that there might be some
dissent from the floor and put in place plans to deal with it. Anyone
disrupting the minute’s silence was to be frogmarched out of the hall and taken
to a shredder. Their conference pass would be destroyed and then they would be
expelled from the site. The shredder was never switched on, because there was
not a single murmur of dissent in the packed conference hall. Labour people
stood as one in empathy and solidarity with Israel.
That unity hasn’t lasted. Frankly, it never was likely
to last. People much more expert than I am on the workings of the terrorist
mind say that Hamas wanted to provoke the ferocious Israeli response that has
followed. Pulverising aerial bombardments are creating thousands of civilian
casualties in the Gaza Strip and a severe humanitarian crisis. This has brought
Labour’s latent internal tensions boiling to the surface. The dissent-free
party of conference time “feels like a million years ago now,” sighs one Labour
MP. There’s been an eruption of sharp divisions often vehemently expressed
about the posture the party should be taking towards the conflict.

‘No great loss’ says Humza Yousaf as ex-SNP leadership
rival defects to Alex Salmond’s Alba party
By Connie Dimsdale
October 28, 2023
Former Scottish National Party (SNP) leadership
candidate Ash Regan has defected to Alex Salmond’s Alba party, becoming its
first MSP – but her decision was met with indifference from her former
leadership rival Humza Yousaf.
Ms Regan, who came a distant third with just over 11
per cent of the votes when she stood in the race to succeed Nicola Sturgeon
earlier this year, said she was leaving the SNP because it had “lost its focus
on independence”.
The politician, first elected as SNP MSP for Edinburgh
Eastern in 2016, has become the first Alba representative in the Scottish
Parliament and is now calling herself its “Holyrood leader”.

100,000 pro-Palestinian protesters in London demand
ceasefire
OCTOBER 28, 2023
LONDON — A man was arrested on suspicion of making
threats to kill as at least 100,000 pro-Palestinian protesters took to the
streets of central London demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Flags
and banners were waved, flares were lit and fireworks were let off as the
mostly peaceful group of demonstrators snaked through the closed-off roads in
Westminster on Saturday afternoon. Around 1,000 officers policed the event,
which saw two confirmed arrests. One man was detained on Whitehall after a
police officer was assaulted, the Metropolitan Police said. The force said the
officer was taken to hospital following the incident. Another man was arrested
in Waterloo Road on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offense and
making threats to kill. Police were seen clashing with pro-Palestinian
protesters close to Downing Street. Officers appeared to be detaining someone
before demonstrators began scuffling with them. Punches and kicks were thrown
and officers ordered the protesters to move away. One person was taken to the
floor and carried away to chants of “let him go” from other protesters. Cries
of “Allahuakbar”, the Arabic phrase for “God is great”, also rang out. Some
protesters chanted “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” despite
controversy around the slogan’s meaning. Home Secretary SuellaBraverman has
previously branded the slogan antisemitic and claimed that it is “widely
understood” to call for the destruction of Israel. However, pro-Palestinian
protesters have contested this definition. Counter demonstrations were also
taking place, with dozens of people with Union flags standing close to the
Cenotaph on Whitehall, drawing chants of “shame on you” from pro-Palestinian
marchers. The counter protesters could be heard chanting back “free Palestine
from Hamas.” Meanwhile, the nearby Earl Haig Memorial statue was graffitied
with the words “God save Gaza.” It came after a woman was knocked over by a
police horse after the animal was startled by fireworks, but appeared to be
fine

America
White House scrambles to repair relations with Arab,
Muslim Americans
By HANNAH ALLAM
October 28, 2023
One ripple effect of the Israel-Gaza war is the
warp-speed unraveling of relations between President Biden and some of his most
loyal voters: Muslims and Arab Americans.
This week at the White House encapsulated the strains,
beginning with a listening session for frustrated administration personnel from
those communities and ending with a controversial meeting between the president
and five Muslim figures picked by the White House who had faced enormous
pressure from activists to decline in protest.
The open disdain toward Biden from many in a reliably
Democratic bloc is among the many signs the conflict is quickly remaking U.S.
domestic politics, with public fury over a Hamas attack that killed 1,400
Israelis colliding with the horror of entire families in the Gaza Strip being
wiped out in Israel’s retaliatory strikes. The events of the week were
described in detail in interviews with several Arab American and Muslim
advocates inside and outside the administration, nearly all of them speaking on
the condition of anonymity to candidly describe their dealings with the White
House. One organizer said community concerns could be boiled down to a critical
question: “Are we dealing with warmongers or are we dealing with peacemakers?
Who are we dealing with?”
For many Muslims and Arab Americans, the answer came
Wednesday when Biden cast doubt on the number of Palestinian casualties because
the figures come from health officials who report to Hamas, which controls the
territory. Historically, such figures have been accurate, according to Middle
East researchers. On Thursday, Hamas released names, national ID numbers and
other information for the 6,747 people included in the Gaza Health Ministry’s
tally. The group said 281 bodies had not yet been identified, bringing the
total to 7,028. Biden’s remarks, which the administration later reiterated in
formal statements, were interpreted by many as calling Palestinians liars, or
as equating Gaza’s beleaguered medical professionals with Hamas.

American researchers accuse Biden of showing complete
disregard for Arab and Muslim lives
2023-10-28
Shafaq News/ Two American researchers, Sadaf Jaffer,
and FreshtaTaeb, have criticized U.S. President Joe Biden, accusing him of devaluing
the lives of Arabs and Muslims due to his support for Israel amid the ongoing
conflict in the Gaza Strip.
In an article published on "The Hill," the
researchers expressed their deep concern about Biden's stance, which they
believe reflects a lack of regard for the human rights of Muslims.
Jaffer, a South Asian studies lecturer at Princeton
University, and Taeb, a member of the American-Afghan Foundation, said in the
article, " Yet the Biden administration's response to this tragic violence
indicates that the president does not equally value Muslim lives, or those of
Arabs who find themselves lumped in with Muslims. What did the 2,600 dead
Palestinian children do to have their futures violently snatched from them?
Does our government simply label them as terrorists and disposable? Why doesn't
President Biden care enough for them to stop the horror when the power is fully
in his hands? It is difficult to put into words the sorrow and pain we and our
communities feel seeing the scale of suffering compared to the Biden
administration's indifference."
The researchers highlighted America's history of
engaging in large-scale wars in Muslim-majority countries post-September 11,
resulting in significant civilian casualties and long-lasting trauma. They
criticized Biden's discriminatory approach, comparing his response to conflicts
in different regions, and pointed out his abrupt withdrawal from Afghanistan,
which they deemed as another example of his disregard for Muslim lives.

'Will Keep Islamic Terrorists Out?' Trump Vows to
Reimpose Muslim 'Travel Ban' at GOP Meet
By: Rohit
OCTOBER 29, 2023
At a Republican Jewish convention in Las Vegas on
Saturday, former US President Donald Trump promised to re-impose a travel ban
that targeted a slew of mostly Muslim countries if he gets re-elected. “We will
keep radical Islamic terrorists the hell out of our country,” Trump said during
the annual summit of the Republican Jewish Coalition, according to AFP. “You
remember the travel ban? On day one I will restore our travel ban.”
Trump was among several Republican hopefuls lining up
at the gathering of influential Jewish donors to pledge unwavering support for
Israel in its war against Hamas. Trump told the event in the southwestern state
of Nevada, that he would “defend our friend and ally in the State of Israel
like nobody has ever.”
Earlier in 2017, Trump imposed sweeping restrictions
on the entry of travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and,
initially, Iraq and Sudan. The order was quickly challenged in court as
discriminatory against a religious group, but the bans were popular with his
base. President Joe Biden reversed the ban in his first week in office in 2021.

Army Officers To Take Charge Of Pakistan Institute Of
Medical Sciences, Polyclinic Hospitals In Islamabad
IkramJunaidi
October 29, 2023
ISLAMABAD: Amid reservations expressed by doctors who
termed the move ‘unfortunate’, the caretaker government has decided to appoint
serving officers of the Pakistan Army Medical Corps as the heads of the two
largest state-run hospitals in Islamabad – the Pakistan Institute of Medical
Sciences (Pims) and Polyclinic – on deputation for three years.
However, the spokesperson of the Ministry of National
Health Services (NHS) Sajid Shah said the decision was taken in the “best
interest of the patients and health sector”, which would “streamline and
address all the issues of the hospitals”.
A letter from the health ministry sent to the defence
ministry said that the posts of the executive director in Pims and Polyclinic
were vacant due to the non-availability of eligible officers from the feeding
cadre for promotion to the ED. It stated that because of the “importance it
cannot be left out to function without qualified heads of the institutions”.
“In order to ensure effective health care service
delivery for the public at large in ICT, it has been desired to fill the posts
on secondment basis from Pakistan Army Medical Corps as an interim
arrangement,” it added.

Jahangir Tareen’s party goes into poll mode with

Imran Gabol
October 29, 2023
LAHORE: The Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) announced
an ambitious manifesto focusing on economic and social reforms and struck a reconciliatory
tone as it held its maiden public rally on Saturday.
Addressing the rally in the Jahanian tehsil of
Khanewal district, Jahangir Khan Tareen, once key PTI leader and now the IPP’s
patron-in-chief, pointed out that he and some other party leaders were
sidelined when PTI chief Imran Khan became the prime minister.
He said these leaders worked tirelessly to follow a
dream of making ‘Naya Pakistan’ but could not do so, as the PTI gradually
replaced its original team after assuming power and individuals who were
unaware of the party’s vision took the helm.
The PTI had come together with a comprehensive plan to
bring about economic improvement, promote industries to generate jobs and
transform every sector of Pakistan, he said but regretted that the party had
fallen into the hands of individuals who lacked a genuine concern for the
country.

Prosecution ‘twisted facts’ to convict Hanif Abbasi in
ephedrine case: LHC
Malik Asad
October 29, 2023
ISLAMABAD: The prosecution had “twisted facts” to
convict PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi in the case related to misuse of controlled
chemical ephedrine, stated the Lahore High Court (LHC) while setting aside the
conviction.
A two-member LHC division comprising Justice
AsjadJavaidGhural and Justice AaliaNeelum had acquitted Mr Abbasi earlier this
month after he filed an appeal against the conviction.
Giving reasons for the decision, the bench, in the
detailed verdict, stated that a Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) Court
sentenced Mr Abbasi for life days before the 2018 elections for the misuse of
500kg ephedrine.
The case surfaced in March 2011 when the then federal
minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin said the government would investigate the
alleged allocation of 9,000kg of ephedrine to two pharmaceutical companies,

RIYADH: According to the World Tourism Organization,
Saudi Arabia was the most visited country by tourists in the Arab world in
2022.
Last year, the Kingdom welcomed 18 million tourists,
compared to 14.8 million traveling to the UAE. These figures might be at first
startling and incredible to imagine for a country that just a few years ago was
nearly impossible to visit. The Gulf nation’s rapid social and economic
transformations have spearheaded its tourism industry, now quickly becoming a
much sought-after destination worldwide.
Saudi Arabia is home to six UNESCO World Heritage Sites,
among the multitude of wide-ranging heritage sites, new hotels and museums as
well as natural landscapes throughout the country.
During a session at the recently concluded Future
Investment Initiative, it was noted that the Kingdom is contributing 6.4 percent
to the annual gross domestic product while emitting only 3.3 percent of global
greenhouse gases, according to new research published in “The Environmental
Impact of Global Tourism.”

operation that threatens Palestinian civilian lives
ARAB NEWS
October 28, 2023
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia condemned any ground operations
by Israel that may threaten the lives of Palestinian civilians and expose them
to more dangers and inhumane conditions, the foreign ministry said on Saturday.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is following with great
concern the Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip as a result of the
ground operations carried out by the Israeli army” in the Palestinian enclave,
the statement said.
The Kingdom warned “of the danger of continuing to
carry out these blatant and unjustified violations of international law against
the brotherly Palestinian people,” saying “this has serious repercussions for
the stability of the region and regional and international peace and security.”

a suspected Boko Haram leader unknowingly.
There was no cause for anyone to have suspected or
linked the suspect to any sort of crime because alongside his family members,
he lived quietly in the community.
“Nobody in my family could say exactly what was
happening. My wife and children ran in different directions within the house
while I hid in the toilet waiting for the worst,” one of the residents who

Judiciary not to fuel crisis in Plateau
October 29, 2023
Jos – A Plateau State Christian and Muslim Inter-Faith

This came on the heels of conflicting judgments on the
said elections which are ongoing in the court as the group through their
co-leaders, Evangelist Joshua Ringsum and Imam Othman Abdullahi briefed
journalists in Jos on Saturday.
A text read by Ringsum and supported by Abdullahi
stated, “We are compelled to address you this afternoon over unhealthy and

ShafieApdal says PM Anwar has not done enough,
race-based politics must stop
By ShathanaKasinathan
28 Oct 2023
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 —Former Sabah chief minister
Datuk Seri ShafieApdal today said that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not done
enough as a Prime Minister.
The Semporna MP emphasised that, in his view, Anwar's
track record falls short of what the nation requires at this crucial juncture.
"I have known him for a long time. Having a
chance to be Prime Minister, I don't think he has done enough. The trust is not
there,” Shafie said during the 2023 Youth Economic Forum at Bank Negara,
underlining the need for leaders who can inspire confidence and drive change.
In a bid to foster a more inclusive political
landscape, he urged Malaysians to transcend the traditional divide between
parties like Umno which is predominantly Malay, and DAP largely identified as
Chinese-oriented.

Report: Malaysia's universities attracting China's
students due to cheaper costs, less competitive process
By Ida Lim
29 Oct 2023
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — China’s students are
increasingly choosing to go to universities in Malaysia and other South-east
Asian countries, due to the less competitive environment and lower study costs
when compared to other options for studying abroad, a report has said.
According to Hong Kong news outlet South China Morning
Post (SCMP), the most popular options for students from China to study abroad
are still the traditional choices of US, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong due to
their universities’ high rankings, but the standards set for entry into these
universities are getting tougher.
SCMP said there are increasingly more students in
China attracted to South-east Asian universities due to the lower cost and less
intense competition offered, with many opting for Malaysia, Thailand and
Philippines for their postgraduate studies in recent years.
