Gyanvapi Mosque Survey Day 3 Concludes; ASI Team
Discovers Remains Of Fragmented Idols

Lawyer Sudhir Tripathi, representing the Hindu side,
said that they have discovered remains of fragmented idols amidst the debris
during the ongoing survey conducted by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI)
at the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi.
He stated that they have discovered remains of
fragmented idols amidst the debris and expressed hope that more idols will be
recovered during the course of the survey, PTI reported.
He mentioned that the survey primarily targeted the
Wuzu Khana (ablution area) and the prayer space for Muslims. The survey, which
lasted for the entire day, concluded at 5 pm, and the ASI team departed from
the mosque complex.
On Saturday, the scientific survey to ascertain
whether the 17th-century masjid was built over a pre-existing Hindu temple
structure resumed. The ASI team paused the survey around noon, permitting
Muslims to pray in the mosque, and resumed it at 2:30 pm.
The Varanasi court has directed the ASI to submit the
survey report by September 2. The government counsel had previously requested a
four-week extension for the ASI to complete the survey and submit the report.
On Friday, the Supreme Court declined to issue a stay
on the Allahabad High Court's order regarding the ASI survey of the Gyanvapi
mosque, which the Muslim side believes will "reopen wounds of the
past." Nevertheless, the apex court instructed the ASI team not to employ
any invasive methods during the survey.
"The ASI team is conducting a survey in the
central dome of the mosque complex, where they have begun imaging and mapping.
The ASI team has entered the 'tehkhana' (basement), which is under the
possession of Vyas family, but has not entered the other basement,"
another lawyer from Hindu side Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi told reporters.
“We have apprehension that BJP-RSS will set a
narrative once the ASI report comes and that other issues like Babri masjid
will be brought to the fore," he said.
The masjid committee participated in the survey after
the Muslim side agreed to cooperate, complying with the Supreme Court's
decision. Initially, the Muslim side had boycotted the survey on Friday. The
first day of the survey lasted approximately seven hours, during which the ASI
team primarily documented the layout and captured images of structures within
the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi.

Voting Is A ‘Jihad’ When Other Races Are Threatening
Muslims’ Political Force, Hadi Says Ahead Of State Polls in Malaysia
Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang

06 Aug 2023
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang claimed
today that Muslims are obligated to vote as it is akin to “jihad” or a holy
struggle when other ethnic groups are threatening the political dominance of
the majority group in Malaysia.
Ahead of the six state elections next week, the
president of the Islamist party PAS again exhorted Malay-Muslims to vote from
their own group in order to keep Muslims in power in the country,
“When Muslims are in a position where they have to
compete with other races that are clearly challenging the political force of
Muslims, then voting is a fardhu ‘ain jihad that becomes mandatory for every
Muslim to perform,” he wrote in an opinion piece.
“They are obliged to vote just by using a pencil,
rather than fighting with weapons. Except when the enemy comes to conquer by
force,” he added, saying that negligence in carrying out this duty of voting
can cause the loss of political power of Muslims and therefore resulting in
them being humiliated in this world and the hereafter.
“Fardhu ‘ain” refers to obligatory acts that must be
performed by each individual Muslim, rather than observing it as a community.
These usually include pillars of faith such as prayers and fasting, but can
also include charity and for some ensuring compliance with the Islamic code.
While “jihad” is popularly associated with war or
armed struggle, it can refer to any effort striving to conform to Islamic
teachings.
In the piece, he cited various Quranic verses and
hadith (quotes from Prophet Muhammad) to justify his argument that society must
be led by a Muslim, and it is a religious obligation for Muslims to ensure
this.
He also told his supporters that in the event that
malpractices happen within a government, changes must be made in the selection
of leaders.
Prior to this, Hadi had insisted that only
Malay-Muslims should lead, rule and administer a pluralistic society that
includes non-Muslims after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asserted
that the stability of a government relies more on its policies rather than its
ethnic composition.
He later told non-Muslims to just let the majority
ethnic group continue to hold the reins of the country, and non-Muslims should
be grateful that they have been given “a place” in this country through the jus
soli citizenship policy that he claimed would not be afforded everywhere else.
Most recently, the PAS president said the unity
government is not fit to lead because it is “dominated” by minorities, a claim
that has been debunked several times.
Now part of an alliance with PerikatanNasional and
recently joining forces with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Hadi said his party is
willing to cooperate with anyone so long as Malaysia is led by Malays and
Muslims who perfectly follow the tenets of Islam.
Last month, the police said they are investigating
Hadi for remarks that allegedly touch on race, religion, and royalty — commonly
known as the 3R sensitivities. No update has been given so far on this
investigation.
Earlier this year, the “Social Media Monitoring of
Malaysia’s 15th General Elections” watchdog report found that PAS and Hadi were
found to be the most strident in inciting ethnic-based narratives on social
media in the lead-up to GE15.

Iran Prepares Stringent Hijab Law With Imprisonment Up

Iran prepares stringent
hijab law
------
Aug 5, 2023
Iranian authorities are preparing a new bill regarding
the dress code, especially with respect to the wearing of hijab, with more
stringent measures against violations. The draft law reportedly consists of 70
articles which include the proposal of long-term imprisonment for women who refuse
to wear hijab, according to a CNN report.
The bill also proposes strict penalties for
celebrities and businesses that violate the rules and also the implementation
of artificial intelligence (AI) to identify the violators of dress codes.
As per the new bill, Iranian morality police are
directed to create and strengthen artificial intelligence (AI)systems to
identify the ones who are breaching the dress code. The perpetrators of the
illegal behaviour will be caught using tools like fixed and even mobile

Saudi Arabia: Worshippers Advised Against Sleeping At Islam’s
Holiest Site

Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Presidency for Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques

Ramadan Al Sherbini
Cairo: Saudi authorities have urged Umrah pilgrims not
to sleep at the Grand Mosque, Islam’s holiest site in Mecca, to head off
congestion in the place as more Muslims are heading to the kingdom to perform
lesser pilgrimage.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has told Umrah pilgrims
and visitors to the site to avoid reclining and sleeping at the mosque, home to
the Holy Kaaba.
“The Guest of Allah, we hope you’ll shun reclining or
lying, particularly in the corridors, prayer places, the tracks of emergency
carts or those designated for the physically disabled,” the minister said in a
post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The ministry had earlier exhorted the worshippers to
shun jostling and crowding at the Grand Mosque. The faithful are also urged to
give priority to women and the elderly at the site.
The season began after the end of the annual Islamic
Hajj pilgrimage that around 1.8 million Muslims attended for the first time in
three years after pandemic-related restrictions were lifted.
Muslims holding different types of entry visas such as
the personal, visit and tourist visas are allowed to undertake Umrah and visit
Al Rawda Al Sharifa, where the tomb of the Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him)
is located at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina after booking an e-appointment.
Saudi authorities have extended the Umrah visa from 30
days to 90 and allowed holders to enter the kingdom via all land, air and sea
outlets and leave from any airport.

Haryana: Muslim residents of Nuh accuse state
government of selective bulldozer justice
Imran Ahmed Siddiqui
06.08.23
The demolition drive in Nuh district of Haryana, which
witnessed large-scale communal violence early this week, continued for a third
day with scores of houses, shops and makeshift structures being pulled down
amid allegations from the minority community that they were being targeted to
appease the “Hindutva groups responsible for the conflagration”.
“The owners of some illegal structures were also
involved in the violence during the (Bajrang Dal-Vishwa Hindu Parishad)
procession on Monday. The drive will continue,” a police officer said.
A Muslim resident of Nuh said that instead of taking
action against the armed members of the Bajrang Dal and the VHP who had shouted
provocative slogans during the procession, the police had adopted a
pick-and-choose policy in carrying out the demolition drive.
“The authorities have started this bulldozer justice
by demolishing homes and shops belonging to Muslims only. Why have they not
demolished a single home of those responsible for the violence and who openly
brandished weapons at the rally?” he told The Telegraph, requesting anonymity.

Varanasi Court Grants ASI Four-Week Extension For
Gyanvapi Mosque Survey
05 AUG 2023
Varanasi's local court has granted the Archeological
Survey of India (ASI) a crucial four-week extension to conduct a scientific
survey inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex, with the deadline set for September
2. The ASI's survey aims to ascertain whether the 17th-century masjid was built
over the remains of a pre-existing Hindu temple, stirring a historical debate
that has long divided communities, according to Hindustan Times.
The survey commenced on Friday, but the ASI team
temporarily suspended their activities around noon to allow Muslims to offer
prayers in the mosque. At 2:30 pm, the survey resumed as per schedule. The
court has reserved the matter for further hearing on September 2, indicating
the significance of the findings to be presented.
Earlier, on August 3, the Allahabad high court
dismissed the plea from the Muslim side that the survey might harm the mosque's
structure, upholding the continuation of the survey. The Supreme Court, on
August 4, affirmed this decision and instructed the use of non-invasive methods
during the operation.

HC order is surprising & unfortunate: All India
Muslim Personal Law Board on Gyanvapi survey
Aug 06, 2023
The communique quotes Dr SQR Ilyas, AIMPLB
spokesperson, as saying that the HC decision was against the law and principle
of secularism.
LUCKNOW The Allahabad High Court order to allow an
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey of Gyanvapi premises is surprising
and unfortunate, said the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in a
press statement on Saturday. It added that AIMPLB, along with the Muslims of
the country, are deeply disappointed with the order.
The communique quotes Dr SQR Ilyas, AIMPLB
spokesperson, as saying that the HC decision was against the law and principle
of secularism. It was expected that the Supreme Court would interfere in the
matter as it is related to giving an opinion contrary to the existing religious
character of the religious place, especially when the SC has already explained
the ambit of the Places of Worship Act of 1991 in its Babri Masjid judgment.

Flattening of shanties of Muslim migrants in Haryana:
'Were notices sent as required by law? asks TMC
06th August 2023
By Online Desk
TMC leader and Rajya Sabha member SaketGokhale has
raised the issue of bulldozers flattening the shanties of migrant workers
following the Nuh violence in Haryana.
Gokhale questioned why were these demolitions done
during a curfew and how come the government realized that these are
"illegal encroachments" only after the recent violence. Were any
notices sent as required by law? he asked.
He further questioned that if the people living in the
shanties were "illegal immigrants," how did the sub-divisional
magistrate of Nuh identify and determine that? How many cases under Passport
Act, 1967 have been registered?

Replace worn JalurGemilang, demonstrate love for
Malaysia, says Hajiji
06 Aug 2023
TUARAN, Aug 6 — Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji
Noor called for the people in the state to display their love for the country
by flying the JalurGemilang and replacing the worn flags with new ones at their
respective premises to welcome the National Day celebration.
He said as Malaysians, they ought to feel proud to do
so, particularly during the National Month and Fly the JalurGemilang campaign,
as this is the best time for them to demonstrate their patriotism and sow the
spirit of unity among the people of varied ethnic backgrounds and religious
beliefs.
“Therefore, let’s work together to nurture the feeling
in the community so that the people looked up highly to and respect the JalurGemilang
as the country’s symbol and identity,” he said in his speech at the
district-level 2023 JalurGemilang Merdeka Kembara programme here today.
He said the theme for this year’s National Day,
“Malaysia Madani: TekadPerpaduanPenuhiHarapan” (Malaysia Madani: Determination
of Unity Fulfils Hope) was apt as racial unity and tolerance had been the
pillar in preserving the country’s independence.
He said in a pluralistic country like Malaysia, unity
among the various races and ethnicities needs to be continuously nurtured and
protected because it is the only way to achieve progressive economic growth and
political stability.

When she died in 2007, Oriana Fallaci was on trial in

"Contempt for the Islamic religion". The magistrate had argued that
some sentences in her books are "unequivocally offensive to Islam".
An arrest warrant was also issued from Switzerland. If my friend Oriana were
alive today, perhaps we would see her with shackles on her wrists.
During the period when the Saudi Supreme Court (which
is not really a supreme court, but more a congregation of imams) gave the green
light to a thousand lashes and ten years in prison for the liberal blogger Raif

Leading the UN criminals was Joachim Rücker himself,
president of the Human Rights Council, photographed smiling alongside the
guardians of Wahhabi Islam in a white tunic. There was also HeinerBielefeldt,
envoy of the United Nations for religious freedom, a scholar specializing in
the works of Immanuel Kant, who must have seen applications of Kant's belief in

Syria's main al-Qaida-linked group denies it was

5 August 2023
BEIRUT (AP) — Syria’s main insurgent al-Qaida-linked
group denied it was behind the killing of the Islamic State group's leader in
the country’s northwest saying it would have otherwise claimed responsibility.
The security arm of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, made
the announcement Friday night, a day after IS blamed the Syrian insurgent group
for the death of its little-known leader, Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini
al-Qurayshi, who headed the extremist organization since November.
He said HTS would continue to fight “evil acts” by IS
in rebel-held parts of Syria, adding that had his group been behind
al-Qurayshi’s death “we would have given the good news to Muslims and announced
it directly.”

SHEHAB SUMON
August 05, 2023
Dhaka: Bangladesh is working to boost its relations
with the Gulf Cooperation Council and is preparing to hold ministerial-level
talks with the bloc, the South Asian nation’s envoy to Riyadh told Arab News on
Saturday.
Bangladesh and the GCC — an intergovernmental economic
union of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, headquartered
in Riyadh — signed a memorandum establishing a framework for cooperation in
November last year.
The deal was reached on the sidelines of the Manama
Dialogue regional security conference in Bahrain by Bangladeshi Foreign
Minister A.K. Abdul Momen and former GCC secretary general Dr. NayemFalah
Al-Hajraf.
“We have been trying to boost cooperation with GCC. In
this context, we signed an MoU with the GCC in November. This MoU has a
baseline on the ways to move forward,” Bangladeshi Ambassador to Saudi Arabia
Javed Patwary told Arab News.
To move the cooperation forward, the envoy met this
week the GCC’s new chief, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, who took office earlier this year. The
two discussed holding a ministerial-level meeting in September.

Afghan students pin hopes on ICCR for their
scholarships’
by Devanshi Srivastava
August 6, 2023
A student from southern Afghanistan, who just
completed his MBA degree from a university in Pune, goes to a Sai Baba temple,
near his house every night for food. He has neither financial support from his
family, which is “stuck” in his Taliban-ruled home country, nor does he have
permission to work in India with his student visa.
But lack of money is not his primary concern. It is
the prospect of discontinuing studies and having to go back to the political
turmoil of Afghanistan. Ever since he graduated in July, he has been
desperately hoping for an announcement of scholarships for Afghan students by
the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) that would pave the way for
him to continue his studies and extend his visa.
“There is no hope, no job opportunity, nor any future
in Afghanistan,” said the student. “Ignorance is ruling the country and one of
the ways to fight that is education. That is why, we are looking up to the
Government of India as a friend and request them to provide scholarships to
Afghan students.”

Russia spreading false claims about Qur’an burnings to
harm Nato bid, says Sweden
6 August 2023
The Swedish authorities have accused Russia of trying
to influence how Qur’an burnings are viewed around the world through
disinformation campaigns written in Arabic. It is believed to be part of an
attempt to disrupt Sweden’s Nato membership process, which is still waiting for
approval by Turkey and Hungary.
Sweden’s psychological defence agency, part of the
Ministry of Defence, said that the Russian state-controlled media outlets RT
and Sputnik had published a series of articles in Arabic, falsely claiming that
the Swedish government supported Qur’an burning. Since the end of June, the
authorities have logged about a million similar posts in Arabic and other
languages. The warning from the agency – a cold war-era body brought back last
year to fight foreign disinformation as tensions with Russia escalated –
follows another burning in a spate of such desecrations in Sweden.
Two Iraqi men, Salwan Momika and Salwan Najem, who
have been involved in previous incidents, were permitted to burn a Qur’an
outside parliament, prompting outrage and further intensifying the diplomatic
crisis between Sweden and Muslim countries around the world.

Govt celebrates, PTI rues Toshakhana verdict

ISLAMABAD: The PML-N and PTI deserters on Saturday
hailed the verdict against former PM Imran Khan in Toshakhana case, whereas the
PTI termed it a decision of a “kangaroo court”.
The Supreme Court Bar Association expressed its

Speaking at a news conference, Federal Minister for
Information Marriyum Aurangzeb dismissed speculations that there was a
political motive behind the arrest and conviction of the PTI chairman, stating
the verdict had come after a one-year investigation.

PPP will have to take a stand if polls are delayed,
says Khursheed Shah
Nadir Guramani
August 6, 2023
Federal Minister for Water Resources Syed Khursheed
Shah has said that the PPP will have to “take a stand” if general elections
were now delayed.
The government has announced that assemblies will be
dissolved on August 9, following which elections should be held within 90 days
of the end of the assemblies’ tenure.
However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said during an
interview earlier this week that elections would be held on the basis of the
latest census, while the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has already
expressed its inability to hold polls on the basis of the new population count
within the stipulated time as it will have to conduct a fresh delimitation of
constituencies in this case.
A day earlier, the Council of Common Interests (CCI)
approved the results of the 2023 digital census, making it almost certain that
general elections may not be held this year as a fresh delimitation, which may
take months, has now become compulsory.
Although some of the ruling allies, including the
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), earlier opposed holding the next general
elections under the fresh census, its silence in the CCI meeting has raised
questions.

KP witnesses few street protests as PTI workers stay
‘silent’ over Imran’s arrest
Dawn Report
August 6, 2023
PESHAWAR: Amid massive police deployment, the Pakistan
Tehreek-i-Insaf activists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa largely remained “silent” over
the arrest of their leader and former prime minister, Imran Khan, following his
conviction in a corruption case.
Soon after the PTI chairman was held by the police in
Lahore after being sentenced by a court over the unauthorised sale of
Toshakhana gifts, authorities deployed large contingents of police equipped
with anti-riot gear along with prison vans on main streets in various districts
to thwart possible demonstrations.
Following the arrest of Imran on May 9, the PTI
workers staged violent demonstrations across the province leading to a crackdown
on them by the police and other law-enforcement agencies.
The local PTI leaders in the province have either
joined the PTI-Parliamentarians launched by former chief minister Pervez
Khattak or gone underground to prevent arrest over the May 9 violence.

Muslims And Traditionalists at War in Ilorin
By:MichaelJimoh
August 6, 2023
Like a pre-match show off between prize fighters, two
combatants are squaring up for an epic battle over a river in Ilorin Emirate.
Last week, some Muslim clerics quick marched to a river bank at Yemoja
community where they prevented Olokun devotees from carrying out their
religious obligations despite Constitutional guarantees of freedom of worship
for all Nigerians. On their part, the traditional worshippers did not take the
Muslim threat lightly. They responded in kind, both of them chest-thumping about
deploying every available arsenal at their disposal for a fight to the finish.
THEWILL examines the feud for the soul of a city’s loyalty to its traditional
past and pressure to maintain the status quo as one with a solid Islamic
foundation. Michael Jimoh reports…
One rainy day last week, scores of heavily turbaned
men massed around a popular river of the same name in Yemoja community about
sixty-one kilometres from Ilorin capital of Kwara state. They had responded to
a video making the rounds that devotees of Olokun goddess of the river were
presently at that location performing sacrifices as part of their devotional.
To the last man, the Islamic invaders had come to stop
what they considered pagan and idol worship, although they ought to have known
better not to interfere with the religious proclivities of others as stipulated
in the Nigerian Constitution.

Niger coup: Is France to blame for instability in West
Africa?
By Leonard Mbulle-Nziege
06-08-2023
Niger has become the latest country in West Africa
where the army has seized control, following Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, and
Chad - all former French colonies. Since 1990, a striking 78% of the 27 coups
in sub-Saharan Africa have occurred in Francophone states leading some
commentators to ask whether France - or the legacy of French colonialism - is
to blame?
Many of the coup plotters would certainly like us to
think so. Colonel AbdoulayeMaiga, who was named prime minister by the military
junta in Mali in September 2022, launched a scathing attack on France.
Criticising "neocolonialist, condescending,
paternalist and vengeful policies", Mr Maiga alleged that France had
"disowned universal moral values" and stabbed Mali "in the
back".
Anti-French vitriol has also flourished in Burkina
Faso, where the military government ended a long-standing accord that allowed
French troops to operate in the country in February, giving France one month to
remove its forces.
