THE JALGAON district administration has issued an
interim order restraining people from offering prayers at a mosque amid claims
and counter claims over its existence.
While a Hindu outfit, Pandavwada Sangharsh Samiti, has
claimed that the structure – located in Erandol, 350 km from Mumbai — resembles
a temple and accused the local Muslim community of encroaching it, the Jumma
Masjid Trust Committee that maintains the mosque has claimed that it has
records to show its existence at least since 1861.
The dispute has landed in the Aurangabad Bench of the
Bombay High Court with the Jumma Masjid Trust Committee filing a petition
against the July 11 restraining order issued by Jalgaon District Collector Aman
Mittal.

KARACHI: The Hindu community in Karachi woke up on
Saturday morning to find the old Mari Mata Temple Soldier Bazaar had been razed
to the ground.
According to residents of the area, the operation took
place while the area was without electricity late on Friday night. That’s when
the diggers and a bulldozer arrived to do their work. While leaving the outer
walls and the temple’s main gate intact, they demolished the entire inside
structure.
“It is a very old Mandir,” Shri Ram Nath Mishra Mahraj
of another very old temple nearby, the Shri Punch Mukhi Hanuman Mandir,
informed Dawn.
“It is said to have been built over 150 years ago. We
have also heard of stories about old treasures buried in its courtyard,” he
said, adding that it covered about 400 to 500 square yards and there had been
talk of the land grabbers having their eye on it for some time now.
“The Mandir was under the management of the Madrasi
Hindu community of Karachi and since it was being said that it was a very old
and dangerous structure that might topple any day, the Mandir management after
much pressure reluctantly but temporarily moved most of their deities to a
small room near the storm water drain until they could carry out some
renovation work there,” he said.
A member of the Madrasi Hindu community, meanwhile,
said that they were being forced to vacate by two persons, namely, Imran Hashmi
and Rekha AKA Nagin Bai. There was also talk of the temple being sold off by
the two named to another party for an amount of 70 million rupees and the
buyers were looking to build a commercial building there. There was also a
mention of some fake documents in the name of a person named ‘Navaid’, allowing
transfer of lease of the amenity plot to a commercial one.
The community has appealed to the Pakistan-Hindu
Council, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the Inspector General of Sindh
police to take notice and look into the matter on an urgent basis.

Built In 1727, Basra’s Al-Siraji Mosque Gets Demolished
In Order To Extend The Abi Al-Khasib Road

-----
July 15, 2023
Basra (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi governorate of Basra
has began dismantling and removing the nearly 300-year-old Al-Siraji Mosque in
order to extend the Abi Al-Khasib road in the governorate’s south. Many Iraqis
have used to social media to express their displeasure and criticism.
According to the governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani:
“The goal of demolishing the Al-Saraji Mosque is to complete the expansion of
the street, in response to the demands of citizens and vehicle owners, due to
the severe crowds being in the middle of the street.”
Al-Eidani stated that the local government will
renovate the mosque and extend the mosque in a way befitting its heritage and
compatible with the governorate’s urbanization, implying that the land will be levelled
and the mosque reconstructed.
The occurrence of demolishing the lighthouse was
condemned by Iraq’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities in a
statement, stating its determination to take legal steps to preserve the
significant cultural treasure from any administrative or personal misuse.
“We reject any building that bears a heritage or
archaeological feature, whether religious or civil, as it is not considered the
property of an endowment office, ministry, authority, or governorate, but
rather the property of history,” said Ahmed Al-Badrani, Minister of Culture,
Tourism and Antiquities.
The mosque, which has a footprint of around 1,900
square meters, is situated in the Abu Al-Khasib district’s
Al-Sirajineighborhood. Over the course of the 1980s, donations assisted in
restoring it.

Muslims Protest LGBT Movement In Canada
LGBT Flag
----
Jul 16, 2023
Hundreds of Muslim residents came to downtown
Mississauga, west of Toronto, Canada, to demonstrate against LGBT policies led
by the Trudeau government.
Similar demonstrations by Muslims have been held
recently in Ottawa and Calgary. About two months ago, the Muslim leadership in
Canada signed a statement renouncing the government's LGBT policy and demanded
that this policy not apply to the Muslim community.
The demonstrators carried banners that read:
"Leave kids alone," "Parents are legally responsible for their
children, not state institutions," "God determined my gender, don't
confuse me," "Protect our children. No gender indoctrination,"
"Education, not indoctrination," "Please don't confuse our
children," "We need to protect childhood and innocence," and,
"Stop indoctrination in schools."
During the march through the streets of the city, the
demonstrators chanted, "leave our kids alone," "Gender is not a
choice," and, "We want to protect the future of our children."
A Muslim cleric said in an interview that Muslims
don't hate LGBT people but the act they do, and called on them not to do it in
public and not to influence the children.
He emphasized that it is forbidden for LGBT education
to be introduced in schools and to force content on the children that they do
not understand. He pointed out that God created man and woman and that it is a
shame to force an entire month on the public celebrating the Pride movement.

Love For Cattle Brings Hindus And Muslims Together;
Taking Care Of Cattle That Are Abandoned By Their Owners Either Due To Age Or
Disability
16th July 2023
By Arabinda Panda
CUTTACK: At a time when Hindu-Muslim hatred has taken
deep roots in many parts of the country, members of the two religious
communities in Nischintakoili block of Cuttack district are together for a
reason - to prevent cow slaughter and taking care of ailing and old cattle.
At AsureswarGorakshani in the block, Hindus and
Muslims have been taking care of cattle that are abandoned by their owners
either due to age or disability. It is managed by AsureswarGomangal Samiti
which is headed by minister AtanuSabyasachiNayak.
Hindus and Muslims of Asureswar, Koilo, Dixitpada,
Ranipada, Julikipada, Pithapada, Paikarapur, Kulagan Isalo, Katikata,
Parasailo, Banamalipur, Aenda and Patasura villages of the block are members of
the samiti. Old and diseased cattle that are found abandoned are brought to the
shelter and taken care of for the rest of their lives, member of the samitiSk
Ahmad said.
Members of the communities play a vital role in
preventing the cattle from being sent to abattoirs and nursing them to good
health. The organisation was formed 80 years back by two villagers -
JaladharNayak and Afsar Ali. The site chosen for the cow shelter was a
graveyard, close to a slaughterhouse, which was forced to close down after the
cattle shelter came up in 1943.
The first inmate of the shelter was an old ox. A
villager of MallipurDhadi Das had sold the animal to a butcher Rafik Khan for
Rs 4 and 10 annas. The ox had become immobile after losing one of its legs.
When Afsar Ali heard about the ox, he approached Khan and bought the animal by
paying Rs 5 then. As the news spread, the old and disabled cattle were brought
to the shelter by people of nearby villages.
Currently, the shelter with six sheds houses 120
cattle including three blind and 30 disabled cattle. Some of them are
paralysed. The organisation is recognised by Animal Welfare Board of India and
has an annual budget of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. The board provides Rs 5 lakh
to Rs 6 lakh annually and the remaining expenses are met through contributions
by villagers which happens in the shape of a unique practice called
‘MustiBikhya’.The organisation has provided every family in the nearby villages
earthen pots.

UCC targets Muslims, goal to create communal divide
ahead of Lok Sabha polls: Yechury
K.M. Rakesh
16.07.23
CPM general secretary SitaramYechury on Saturday said
the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) proposed by the Centre is meant to specifically
target the Muslim community with a clear objective of creating a nationwide
communal polarisation ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Yechury who inaugurated a national seminar against UCC
organised by his party in Kozhikode urged the people to see the real intent of
the proposed legislation by interpreting some recent developments.
He recalled how Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio
told the media last month that home minister Amit Shah had assured a delegation
led by him that Christians and tribals in some pockets would be exempted from
the proposed law. “The Punjab chief minister (Bhagwant Mann) openly said that
the Sikhs should be exempted. The Parsis said that them being a small community
should be exempted,” Yechury noted.
“The defence minister (Rajnath Singh) very proudly
said that there is already a UCC in Goa… You say that Parsis, Sikhs, Christians
and tribals are exempt. Who is left? That is what the actual purpose of this
law is,” he said.

Analysis of phone data without court sanction
‘illegal’
Wajih Ahmad Sheikh
July 16, 2023
LAHORE: Spying on or extracting data from the personal
mobile phone of an individual or a suspect is unconstitutional and illegal
except with the permission of a court, the Lahore High Court ruled on Saturday.
“Extracting information from a personal phone of an
accused during a criminal process is a serious issue which attracted our
attention to examine the law on the subject,” said the judges in a verdict
allowing the appeal of a man convicted of propagating the agenda of a banned
outfit.
The judgement, authored by Justice Rafiq, noted that
in this modern day, people were virtually living in their cell phones, chatting
with near and dear ones, talking through audio or video calls, and sharing
material and messages in public and private. “Therefore, our phone is like or
not less than a home,” it said.
The judgement observed that every relation, domestic
or private, which the people kept within the four walls of their house, was
legally protected under the Constitution.
“We know the human inclinations have no limits; it
expands to religion, Sufism, ideology, politics, art, culture, customs, traditions,
literature, music, poetry, history, business, sports, etc.,” it said.

Understanding the Bangladesh Jamaat e-Islami’s return
MOHAMMED SINAN SIYECH
JUL 15 2023
The Bangladesh Jamaat e-Islami (BJI), an Indian origin
group that branched off into Bangladesh due to political events, was largely
quiet over the last decade owing to the ban placed on it by the ruling Awami
League led by the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Yet, recently, the
group came back to the fore of Bangladeshi politics when it led a huge rally in
Dhaka in June 2023. Several factors explain the resurgence of this group in the
capital after a strict curb in its activities.
The Jamaat e-Islami (JeI) is an Islamic revival
movement started by the Hyderabadi born thinker, Abul A’ala Maududi (d.1979) in
1941. Maududi, a charismatic speaker and writer was initially aligned with the
Indian National Congress in the anti-colonial struggle but left the party due
to the prominence of members of the Hindu Mahasabha faction within the party.
Over time, he developed an Islamic group with the main objective of restoring
Islamic rule. Maududi is credited with popularising the concept of Hakimiya,
i.e. sovereignty belongs to God and not human beings, thereby, necessitating an
Islamic governance. Due to this, he was against the idea of secularism and
democracy, terming them “western” concepts that enabled different sorts of
Islamically-forbidden activities (such as alcohol, prostitution etc.).
Maududi was initially opposed to the idea of Pakistan
due to it being based on Muslim nationalism rather than Islamic principles but
later shifted to Pakistan after Partition to play a role in Islamising the
society there. While the Jamaat e-Islami in India recalibrated its position to
engage more closely in democracy and to support Indian secularism, the
Pakistani Jamaat (including then East Pakistan – Bangladesh) was largely in
favour of setting up an Islamic state over time.

By: Express News Service
July 16, 2023
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani called on Bangladesh
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Saturday following the full load
commencement of power supply to Bangladesh from the 1600 MW Ultra
Super-Critical Thermal Power Plant (USCTPP) at Godda in Jharkhand.
The Godda USCTPP, which marks the Adani Group’s entry
into transnational power projects, is India’s first commissioned transnational
power project where 100 per cent of the generated power is supplied to another
nation.
After the meeting, Adani tweeted: “Honoured to have
met Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on full load commencement and handover of the
1600 MW Ultra Super-Critical Godda Power Plant. I salute the dedicated teams
from India and Bangladesh who braved COVID to commission the plant in a record
time of three-and-a-half years.” Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), a
wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited, completed the dependable
capacity test for the Godda plant on July 12. The dependable capacity test, a
mandatory requirement under the power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bangladesh,
was conducted over the stipulated period of six hours to evaluate the

How BSF was the first to launch the war to liberate
Bangladesh
Jul 16, 2023
MONIDEEPA BANERJIE
The book is dotted with the untold story of BSF heroes
who were the first to extend the hand of friendship to the rebels against
Pakistan.
But till I started reading UshinorMajumdar’s book, it
never struck me that I had never met an officer of the BSF at the celebration
of India’s victory in 1971 in which they, too, were integral, in fact, perhaps
the spearhead.
That may have been my oversight, that I never bumped
into a BSF officer at the annual observance of 1971 at Fort William. But it is
an oversight that UshinorMajumdar’s book does a wonderful job of setting right.
The book: India’s Secret War: BSF and Nine Months to the Birth of Bangladesh.
1971 was 52 years ago in which tomes have been written about the war. But I do
believe this book is the first to examine, as closely as it deserves to be, the
role of the BSF in a war like no other in the world, one that gave birth to a
whole new nation.
