TEHRAN (FNA) - Al-Qaeda leaders called on widows of their slain militants to participate in Jihad al-Nikah and offer themselves to their militants who are fighting in Syria.
Governor of al-Khalis in Iraq’s Diyala Province, Oudai Al Khadran, was quoted by al-Sumeria news that "Intelligence cells commissioned with monitoring al-Qaeda’s activities within Diyala’s borders have reported that the highly-ranked officials in the organization urged the widows of the commanders and members to abide by the sexual Jihad Fatwa".
"This Fatwa allows al-Qaeda’s women to have sexual intercourse with members of the organization to lift their morale," he said.
"The attempt to implement the Sexual Jihad Fatwa issued by clergymen that support the armed groups in Syria proves that such laws are transnational. This also points out that al-Qaeda’s course of action in Syria or in any other country is closely related to the events that are taking place in Iraq," he added.
"Al Qaeda’s Fatwas issued in the previous years by crooked clergymen have done harm to Islam," Khadran said.
He further stressed the importance of "standing up to these jurists and fighting extremist tendencies that blemish the humanitarian values of Islam".
The sexual Jihad Fatwa made its first appearance in Syria a few months ago and it allowed for armed members to have sexual intercourse with women for a determined period of time as per a momentary contract that loses effect after a few hours.
This will allow other men to sign a similar contract and women to sleep with more than one man per day.
The call has been followed with several cases of rapes and sexual assaults on women and girls in Syria who fall victim to extremist al-Qaeda militants.
The insurgency in Syria which is going on with US strong support is showing vicious incidents of human rights violations, almost all ignored by the western and regional allies of Washington.
The fact that al-Qaeda and other extremist groups are gaining more attention in Syria has mounted worries among Muslim clerics and prominent figures who are concerned by the impressions left on the image of Islam world by the unacceptable acts of extremism done in the name of Islam.

Car bombings kill at least 66 in Baghdad

A coordinated wave of bombings tore through Shiite Muslim areas in and around the Iraqi capital early Wednesday, part of a wave of bloodshed that killed at least 66 people and wounded many more, officials said. The blasts, which came in quick succession, mainly targeted residents out shopping and on their way to work.
In addition to the bombings, the death toll included seven Shiite family members killed when gunmen raided their home and shot them as they slept.
The attacks are the latest in a relentless wave of killing that has left thousands dead since April, marking the country’s worst spate of bloodshed since 2008. Coordinated waves of car bombs have hit Baghdad repeatedly each month, sometimes as often as twice per week.
The violence raises fears that Iraq is hurtling back toward the brink of a civil war fueled by ethnic and sectarian differences.
On Wednesday, insurgents deployed explosives-laden cars, suicide bombers and other bombs and targeted parking lots, outdoor markets and restaurants in predominantly Shiite neighborhoods of Baghdad, according to officials. A military convoy was also hit south of the capital.
Security forces sealed off the bomb scenes as ambulances raced to pick up the wounded. The twisted wreckage of cars littered the pavement while cleaners and shop owners brushed away the debris. At one restaurant, the floor was stained with blood, and dishes were scattered on plastic tables.
The northern neighborhood of Kazimiyah, home to a prominent, gold-domed Shiite shrine, was the worst hit. Two bombs went off in a parking lot, followed by a suicide car bomber who struck onlookers who had gathered at the scene. Police said 10 people were killed and 27 wounded in that attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the day’s attacks, but they bore the hallmarks of the Iraqi branch of al-Qaeda. The group frequently targets Shiites, which it considers heretics, and employs coordinated bombings in an attempt to incite sectarian strife.
The Shiite family shot dead at home were found in the largely Sunni town of Latifiyah, about 30 kilometres south of Baghdad. Three children, ages eight to 12, were killed along with their parents and two uncles in that attack, according to police.
Authorities said they had previously fled the town after being threatened, and returned only three weeks ago.
Many of the day’s blasts targeted morning shoppers. Among them was a parked car bomb that detonated in a commercial area in the northern Shaab neighborhood of Baghdad, killing nine and wounding 25.
More parked car bombs went off in outdoor markets in the sprawling slum of Sadr City, where five were killed and 20 were wounded. Similar attacks hit the northeastern neighborhood of Shula, killing three and wounding nine; the southeastern Jisr Diyala in an outdoor market, killing eight and wounding 22; and the eastern New Baghdad area, killing three and wounding 12.
Blasts also hit the neighborhoods of Bayaa, Jamila, Hurriyah and Saydiyah, claiming a total of 12 lives.
In Mahmoudiyah, about 30 kilometres south of Baghdad, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a restaurant, killing five and wounding 25.
And in Madain, about 25 kilometres southeast of Baghdad, a roadside bomb struck a passing military patrol, killing four soldiers and wounding six others.
Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures, which included more than 180 wounded. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.
The violence follows months of protests by Iraq’s Sunni minority against the Shiite-led government that began late last year. Attacks have been on the rise since a deadly security crackdown by security forces on a Sunni protest in April, while the increasingly sectarian nature of the civil war in neighboring Syria is inflaming Iraq’s own long-festering differences between Sunnis and Shiites.
In response, clerics and other influential Shiite and Sunni leaders have called for restraint, and security forces have tried to ratchet up counterinsurgency operations.
More than 500 people have been killed so far in August, according to an Associated Press count.

Syria's Opposition Claims Phosphorus Bombs Dropped Near Aleppo

ISTANBUL, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Syria's opposition coalition said on Tuesday President Bashar al-Assad's forces had dropped phosphorus bombs and napalm on civilians in rural Aleppo on Monday, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens.
The alleged attack occurred as the United States and its European and Middle Eastern partners honed plans to punish Assad for a major poison gas attack last week on the suburbs of the capital, Damascus, that killed hundreds of civilians.
Video footage uploaded on the Internet, apparently of Monday's attack, showed doctors frantically smearing white cream on the reddened skin of several screaming people, many of them young boys.
"Assad's military aircraft have hit populated areas with the internationally prohibited phosphorus bombs and napalm," the opposition coalition said in a statement.
It was not possible to independently confirm the report. There have been previous unconfirmed reports of the use of phosphorus bombs by Assad's forces during Syria's conflict, now in its third year.

Egypt backs away from plan to dissolve Muslim Brotherhood

Egypt should not ban the Muslim Brotherhood or exclude it from the political process after the army's overthrow of Mohamed Mursi, the interim prime minister said on Tuesday, in a softening of state rhetoric against the Islamist group.
The apparent about-turn adds to speculation that the government is beginning to prepare for a possible political settlement to the crisis.
Hazem el-Beblawi proposed on August 17 that the Arab world's oldest and arguably best organised Islamist group should be dissolved, and said the government was studying the idea.
He made the proposal to the minister of social affairs, whois responsible for licensing non-governmental organisations.
In an interview with state media late on Tuesday, Beblawi appeared to row back, saying the government would instead monitor the group and its political wing and that the actions of its members would determine its fate.
“Dissolving the party or the group is not the solution and it is wrong to make decisions in turbulent situations,” the state news agency MENA quoted Beblawi as saying.
“It is better for us to monitor parties and groups in the framework of political action without dissolving them or having them act in secret.”
Founded in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood was dissolved by Egypt's military rulers in 1954. Though still outlawed during the 30-year rule of Hosni Mubarak, the group ran a charitable network and its members ran as independents in limited elections.
After decades of operating in the shadows and winning support with its charities and preaching, the Brotherhood registered itself as a non-governmental organisation in March in response to a court case brought by opponents of the group who were contesting its legality.
It also has a legally registered political arm, the Freedom and Justice party, set up in 2011 after the uprising that swept Mubarak from power. The Brotherhood won all five national votes held since 2011, including Mursi's election as president last year.
But Mursi alienated a huge swathe of the political spectrum during his year in power, and was removed by the army on July 3 after mass protests.
More than 1,000 people, including about 100 police and soldiers, have since been killed in the worst bout of violence in Egypt's modern history. Most died when the security forces dispersed two pro-Mursi protest camps on August 14. State media has described the crackdown as a war on "terrorism".
The military-backed interim government says it will call parliamentary and presidential elections within months, after the passage of a new constitution.

In the Hamra district of the city, children occupy the sidewalks — girls selling cut flowers and boys asking to polish shoes — as women sit with babies in the shade, begging for change. Desperation stalks the more-than-700,000 registered refugees, with untold numbers of unregistered men, women and children gathered in already-straitened camps and slums along the spine of Lebanon’s coastline and in its Bekaa Valley. They have fled gruesome fighting, and can tell uncomfortable stories.

Egypt's former militant groups seek truce between military, Brotherhood

CAIRO – Two former Egyptian militant groups have proposed a truce between the military and the ousted president's Muslim Brotherhood group, in a move that highlights the extent to which Islamists have been weakened by a massive security crackdown.
The leaders of the Gamaa Islamiya and Islamic Jihad movements said Monday their initiative calls for supporters of former President Mohammed Morsi to cease street demonstrations if the military-backed government halts their moves against them.

KSA declares war on domestic abuse
In a landmark decision, the Cabinet on Monday passed a law making it a crime to commit domestic abuse. The law also provides treatment and shelter to victims of violence.
For the first time, public and private sector workers have been encouraged to report abuse cases to law enforcement authorities or the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The legislation now holds law enforcement agencies accountable for investigating and prosecuting domestic cases. Previously, police treated violence against women and children as a private domestic matter with few legal consequences.

Syrian Electronic Army’ claims attacks on Twitter, American news sites

High-profile media companies including the New York Times, the Huffington Post and Twitter lost control of their websites Tuesday after hackers supporting the Syrian government breached an Australian-based Internet company that manages many major site addresses.
The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), a group that has previously claimed responsibility for other such attacks, including on Al Arabiya social media accounts, asserted its responsibility for the hacks in multiple messages on Twitter.

Saudi religious police to be investigated for corruption allegations

Saudi Arabia’s religious police, officially known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has come under criticism for alleged financial and administrative corruption.
A source in the Saudi National Anti-Corruption Commission (known as "Nazaha") said the commission has received a complaint with alleged violations and that an investigation would be launched, the Saudi daily newspaper Okaz reported on Tuesday.
One of the violations included a contract with a real estate firm to rent a tower on Riyadh’s King Fahd Road.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says Iraqi security forces are on high alert in case there is an international military strike on Syria. Israel has followed suit and is preparing their defenses near the Syrian-Israeli border, reported Reuters.
Israel bolstered its defense systems on Wednesday, the army said, ahead of a possible U.S. attack on Syria that could spill across the Jewish state's northern border, according to AFP.

Watching Cartoons on Television against Islam, Says Darul Uloom, Deoband

There is some disheartening news for Muslim children from the Darul Uloom, Deoband. The world renowned Islamic seminary has ruled that watching cartoons on television is wrongful as per the Shariat (Islamic law). The edict has come in for severe criticism from Muslim clerics who have dubbed it as “impracticable” and “misleading”. The Darul Uloom had earlier issued a fatwa against Muslims watching TV calling the device Haraam (sinful).
In an answer to a question posted on the Darul Ifta website from Pakistan, the muftis have ruled that since cartoons are “live pictures”, watching them is not acceptable under Islam.
Senior mufti Arif Qasmi said making pictures and keeping them at home was najayaz (illegitimate or wrongful).
Similarly, watching them on TV was also wrong. He said watching cartoons “caused more harm than benefit”.
However, Muslim clerics have slammed the Darul Ifta (the branch of Darul Uloom which issues fatwas) for issuing edicts which were making a mockery of Islam.

New Delhi’s lukewarm attitude to a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif has rubbed off on Islamabad, which feels there is no point in a dialogue if it is seen as a “reward” or concession to Pakistan.
As calls mounted in both countries for cessation of dialogue and a halt to normalisation of trade ties, New Delhi has made it clear that the outrage over the killing of five Indian soldiers on the Line of Control has put a question mark over a meeting between the two leaders in New York next month.

Militant hideout busted in J&K, arms recovered

Based on a specific information, a joint team of Rashtriya Rifles and police personnel carried out an overnight search operation in highly dense Deolmarg forest on upper reaches of Pir Panjal mountains in the district and busted a militant hideout, defence officials said here.

NEW DELHI: A military intervention in Syria complete with cruise missiles looks more likely after the US cited "evidence" of use of chemical weapons by Syrian President Bashar-al Assad, with US officials threatening the attacks could happen "within days".
As West Asia gets inflamed with an imminent military conflict, it could not have come at a worse time for India. Oil prices spiked on fears of US military action in Syria, while the rupee, along with other developing countries' currencies, hit a record low. For many in the government the similarities with the 1991 crisis seem eerie: then, the first Gulf war had thrown oil prices in turmoil and was believed to be the indirect trigger for India's balance of payments crisis. The problem, as sources said, is that India's uncertain economic situation means it's more vulnerable to external shocks.

NYPD secretly designates mosques as terrorism organizations

NEW YORK: The New York police department (NYPD) has secretly labeled entire mosques as terrorism organizations. The designation has allowed police to use informants to record sermons and spy on imams, often without specific evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
Since the 9/11 attacks, the NYPD has opened at least a dozen "terrorism enterprise investigations" into mosques. The TEI is a police tool intended to help investigate terrorist cells.
Designating an entire mosque as a terrorism enterprise means that anyone who attends prayer services is a potential subject of the investigation and fair game for surveillance.
Many TEIs stretch for years, allowing surveillance to continue even though the NYPD has never criminally charged a mosque or Islamic organization with operating as a terrorism enterprise.
The NYPD declined to comment.

Al Qaeda vows "Volcano of Revenge" over Syrian suspected gas attack

An al Qaeda affiliate threatened a "Volcano of Revenge" against Syrian government security and military targets in retaliation for a suspected poison attack
near Damascus, the SITE Monitoring Group reported late on Tuesday. A branch of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)said in a statement it would punish Syria for a series of massacres, including last week's alleged chemical weapons
attack, after meeting eight Syrian factions.
"The meeting factions decided to carry out the "Volcano of Revenge" invasion in response to the regime's massacres against our people in Eastern Ghouta, the last of which was the chemical weapons massacre," SITE quoted the statement, dated Aug. 26, as saying.

Anti-Sharia Bill Passed In North Carolina Without Governor Pat McCrory's Signature

(RNS) North Carolina became the seventh state to prohibit its judges from considering Islamic law after Gov. Pat McCrory allowed the bill to become law without formally signing it.
McCory, a Republican, called the law “unnecessary,” but declined to veto it. The bill became law on Sunday (Aug. 25).
The state joins Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Tennessee.
Supporters hailed the bill as an important safeguard that protects the American legal system from foreign laws that are incompatible with the U.S. Constitution, while critics argued that the bill’s only purpose is to whip-up anti Muslim hatred because the Constitution already overrides foreign laws.

White House rules out 'regime change' among options for Syria

WASHINGTON: The White House ruled out any military effort to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power on Tuesday as President Barack Obama ponders options in response to last week's chemical weapons attack in Syria.
"The options that we are considering are not about regime change," said White House spokesman Jay Carney. "They are about responding to a clear violation of an international standard that prohibits the use of chemical weapons."
Obama is considering cruise missile strikes against Syrian targets in response to the August 21 chemical weapons attack that US officials are increasingly confident was launched by the Syrian government.

U.S and allies build case for Syria military action, Russia evacuates citizens

The United States and its allies built their case on Wednesday for likely military action against the regime in war-torn Syria over alleged chemical weapons attacks, despite stern warnings from Russia.
The ground for a military intervention was set out by US vice-president Joe Biden, who for the first time said last week's attack, thought to have killed hundreds, could only have been perpetrated by president Bashar al-Assad's forces.
Britain joined the US in saying regime forces were behind the strikes, and prime minister David Cameron said London and its allies had to consider whether targeted military action was required to "deter and degrade the future use of chemical weapons".
But senior officials in Washington told NBC news that possible strikes against targets in Syria could take place as early as Thursday.

WUC Condemns Extra-judicial Killings of Uyghurs in Yilkiqi

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) condemns the recent killings of Uyghurs Yilkiqi township in Kargilik (Yecheng in Mandarin) county in Kashgar prefecture. According to Radio Free Asia (RFA), the Uyghurs were killed following a lightning police raid on 20 Augst 2013, but the revealed information fails to adequately stand to question, leaving a dark shadow over the actions of the Chinese authorities. In light of recent events in Maralbeshi and Lukchun, the WUC urges pause for caution and reflection on this latest incident, and calls upon the international community to press for more information, clarity and accountability surrounding it.

EU warns against executing death row inmates

Death Toll in Xinjiang Police Shootout Climbs As Exile Group Blasts Raid

Authorities in China's Xinjiang region said Tuesday that they had shot dead 22 Uyghurs accused of terrorism last week, revising higher an initial death toll in one of the biggest crackdowns on the ethnic minority Muslim group.
They said they have also arrested four Uyghurs in a raid on a house where the 22 were gunned down on Aug. 20 at the edge of a desert area in the Yilkiqi township in Kargilik (in Chinese, Yecheng) county in Xinjiang's southwestern Kashgar prefecture.

Maldives Judge’s public sexual misconduct charge upheld

The High Court yesterday (27 August) concluded a case appealed by former Civil Court Judge Mohamed Hilmy and his wife Aiminath Ali after the Criminal Court ruled that they were guilty of having sex in public.
On December 21, 2011, the Criminal Court ruled that the pair were guilty as charged and sentenced them to six months banishment and 15 lashes.
Hilmy had argued that his arrest was part of a police set-up.
The High Court ruling stated that, according to the statements provided by the police officers that attended the scene, they first saw a motorbike parked on the road near the beach area and, discretely approaching the beach, saw the shadow pair sitting on the beach with their pants down.

Militant wings of political parties involved in Karachi violence: DG Rangers

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday held the police and Rangers responsible for the high levels of unrest in the metropolis, DawnNews reported.
The five-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Chaudhry will hear the case until August 30. The members of the bench include Justices Jawad S. Khawaja, Gulzar Ahmed, Ather Saeed and Azmat Saeed.
A total of seven people were killed in Karachi today, with three others severely injured. Nearly 20 people have been killed in the past two days alone.
Noting the seriousness of unrest in Karachi, the Prime Minister has also summoned a special cabinet meeting next month to discuss the issue.
During the hearing, CJ Chaudhry demanded to know how the citizens could be protected when the forces could not protect themselves.

Sindh govt, CJ urged to take notice of desecration of Sikh holy book

KARACHI: The Pakistan Sikh Council on Tuesday called on the government and the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of growing incidents of desecration of their holy book, Guru Granth Sahib, in various parts of Sindh.
Addressing the press conference, PSC head Sardar Ramesh Singh said that so far five incidents have occurred which forced him to bring it to the government’s notice.
Most of these incidents have occurred inside Hindu temples where the holy book was kept as many people from the Hindu community also believe in the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.

Pakistan to persuade Taliban to relocate office

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will persuade the Afghan Taliban to relocate their political office from Qatar and enter into direct talks with Kabul, sources privy to the talks between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday.
Karzai, who extended his stay in Pakistan for a day at the request of the prime minister, had another round of talks with him in Murree.
A senior official familiar with closed-door talks told The Express Tribune that discussions between the two sides were ‘open and candid’ where all issues of mutual interests were discussed.

KARACHI: Seven people were killed and three others injured Wednesday in different incidents of violence in Karachi, DawnNews reported.
Two bodies were found in the city’s Rexer Lines and the Mewa Shah graveyard. Both the victims had been kidnapped before being tortured to death.
Earlier, a body was found in Karachi’s Jamia Millia area. The victim had been shot dead.
In a separate incident, two persons were killed due to firing in Korangi Crossing and near Wireless Gate on Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Israel allocates $18m for settlement in Jerusalem

RAMALLAH – The Israeli authorities allocated 62.4 million Israeli shekel (roughly $18 million) for the development of the Ramat Shlomo settlement in occupied Jerusalem, a report said on Tuesday.
The Israeli daily Jerusalem Post said that the Jerusalem Municipality’s Finance Committee allocated the funds on Monday for the construction of approximately 1,600 housing units and the infrastructure needed to develop the planned Jewish settlement, to the north of Jerusalem.
The Ramat Shlomo plan gained publicity when the Jerusalem’s District Planning and Building Committee discussed it in March 2010 during the visit to Israel of US Vice President Joe Biden. Full report at:

Taxman Gives Bribe Money to Cleric to pray for him

East Jakarta tax official Eko Dharmayanto, who has been named a suspect in a bribery case, admitted he and Muhammad Dian Irwan Nuqishra, an auditor and a tax investigator, received a total of S$600,000 ($467,000) from Diah Soembedi, president director of Master Steel, in two stages.
Eko said from the first S$300,000 received on May 7, he only received S$170,000, of which S$28,000 was given to his spiritual adviser.
“Habib Abdurahman is my spiritual advisor. I gave him S$28,000 because I was worried for my safety and asked [him] to pray for me,” said Eko, who testified against three defendants Diah Soemedi, Effendy Komala and Teddy Muliawan at the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday.

Balinese society is being encouraged to stop viewing people with physical disabilities as cursed, a respected religious leader has stated.
In a discussion on disability from a religious and customary perspective held in Denpasar on Monday, Ida Pandita Dukuh Acharya Dhaksa regretted that many families in Bali still considered children with physical disabilities as cuntaka, or a family disgrace.
The one-day discussion was organized by Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan (YPK), an NGO focusing on rehabilitation for the physically disabled.

MCA calls for protection of non-Muslim pupils at Seri Pristana

The MCA has lashed out at SK Seri Pristana authorities for the alleged bullying of non-Muslim pupils in the school.
Yesterday, parents of at least 10 pupils revealed that they would be seeking a transfer from the Sungai Buloh school which has been embroiled in several controversies since last month. Three pupils have already left the school.
The parents said the pupils were being harassed and bullied in school “just because their parents spoke up”.
MCA Publicity Bureau chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie said the latest development was “saddening”.

Unwanted foreigners ready to flee Malaysia before Sunday

MALACCA: Many illegal immigrants especially Indonesians are set to flee the country before Sunday when the authorities start the biggest crackdown in the country to flush out unwanted aliens.
Some of those interviewed said they were preparing to cross the Strait of Malacca via several spots in Merlimau here and Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan.
Adi Herwan, a 33-year-old construction worker from Tualang Agong in Java Timur, said he was willing to risk his life to cross the busy straits before Sunday.
“I do not want to be put in overcrowded Immigration depots. I want to go back home,” he added.

Najib: Nations must work for peace

PUTRAJAYA: The challenge faced now by the international community is to collectively work together to find peace not merely for this generation but for all times, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said constructive engagement and dialogue should be preferred over armed conflict to resolve issues if lasting global peace was to be achieved.
“It is imperative that we achieve a peace premised upon a covenant of the willing, not one enforced by hegemony or secured through coercion,” he said at the Mahathir Award for Global Peace ceremony here yesterday.

Gaddafi's son to stand trial next month in Tripoli: Prosecutor

TRIPOLI: The case against Seif al-Islam, son of slain Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi, will be presented to a court in Tripoli on September 19, Libya's public prosecutor announced on Tuesday.
"The prosecutor's office has decided to try 30 people linked to the former regime, including Seif al-Islam Gaddafi (and former spy chief) Abdullah al-Senussi," Abdelkader Radouan said.
They are accused of crimes committed during the 2011 uprising which overthrew Gaddafi.
Baghdadi al-Mahmudi, the last prime minister to serve under Gaddafi, and Mansur Daw who headed the People's Guard are also among the accused.

Tripoli Zoo turned into prison for illegal immigrants

TRIPOLI – Tripoli zoo is being used to hold foreigners found working illegally and picked up by a unit of the capital’s illegal immigration department.
The zoo, closed to the public although still home to several hundred animals, now also houses the operations room of a group of 43 brigades working under Commander Said Gars Alaha. One of these brigades is tasked with checking the health and paperwork of immigrant workers, establishing who has the right to work in the country.

Tunisia’s Ben Ali appears in first photos since his overthrow

Pictures of Tunisia’s deposed President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali have surfaced on the internet on Tuesday for the first time since he fled his country on Jan. 14, 2011.
The pictures were believed to be posted by his son Mohammad Ben Ali on his Instagram account, which was switched to private shortly after the pictures were circulated.
Ben Ali was granted Asylum in Saudi Arabia and is required not to speak to the media or be involved in politics.

3 more terrorist suspects held in Benghazi

BENGHAZI – Three men were arrested today in Benghazi on suspicion of involvement in the campaign of booby-trapped vehicles, which has seen present and past-serving military and police officers assassinated or seriously injured. The spokesman for the city’s Joint Security Room, Abdullah Al-Saidi told the Libya Herald that not all of the suspects were Libyan. He said that one of the men was injured during the arrest but did not give details of how, nor where this had happened.
