The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has asked the Punjab Police Chief to stop the Ahmadiyya community from performing Islamic rituals during Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid or Bakra Eid.
According to LHCBA’s letter, while Eid al-Adha is a sacred festival for Muslims, its rituals, like namaz (Islamic prayer) and animal sacrifice, are meant only for Muslims.
The letter also claims that Ahmadis are a non-Muslim group. They are not legally or religiously allowed to use Islamic symbols or practise Islamic customs, the letter claims.
Ahead of Eid al-Adha (June 6-10), Ahmadis faced growing threats, harassment and even deadly attacks. Since April, at least three Ahmadis have been killed, DAWN reported.
According to LHCBA, the Ahmadiyya community is still presenting themselves as Muslims, which is illegal. The letter claims that Ahmadis are openly organising events for Eid that look similar to Islamic traditions.
The LHCBA calls it a violation of the Constitution of Pakistan, the Penal Code and past Supreme Court rulings. It asked police to take legal action if any Ahmadi was found violating these laws during Eid.
In Pakistan’s Punjab province, Ahmadiyya community members have been asked to sign affidavits promising not to celebrate Bakrid or perform related rituals. This follows a 2023 order enforcing laws that ban Ahmadis from identifying as Muslims or practising Islamic traditions.
Amnesty International has called on Pakistani authorities to stop the unfair treatment of the Ahmadiyya community. It has directed them to protect Ahmadis' right to follow their religion freely.
Amnesty reviewed documents from five districts and found police orders in cities like Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi asking for action against Ahmadis. Even in Sialkot, authorities issued detention orders to stop them from celebrating Eid 2025.
Isabelle Lassee, Deputy Regional Director for South Asia at Amnesty International, raised concerns against the “violence and harassment targeted against Ahmadis” ahead of Eid 2025.
“Not only are local authorities and local enforcement agencies across Pakistan failing to protect Ahmadis, they are themselves actively restricting their rights to freedom of belief and religion,” DAWN quoted Lassee as saying.
Ahmadis consider themselves Muslims and follow core Islamic beliefs like the Five Pillars and Six Articles of Faith. They believe Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was the promised Messiah and a prophet while still respecting Prophet Muhammad.
However, many mainstream Muslims disagree, saying this belief goes against the idea that Muhammad was the final prophet. Ahmadis are not allowed to perform Hajj or Umrah; they are banned from entering Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan Delegation Gets Earful; US Lawmaker Tells Bilawal Bhutto To Eliminate Jaish-e-Mohammad
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari
-----
Jun 7, 2025
NEW DELHI: US Congressman Brad Sherman on Thursday made a pointed advise to a Pakistani delegation, led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, that the country should "do all it can" to eliminate terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad from the region and ensure protection of religious minorities in the country.
In a social media post on X, Sherman said that he emphasised to the Pakistani delegation the importance of combatting terrorism and, in particular, the group Jaish-e-Mohammed, who murdered Daniel Pearl in 2002.
"I emphasized to the Pakistani delegation the importance of combatting terrorism, and in particular, the group Jaish-e-Mohammed, who murdered my constituent Daniel Pearl in 2002," the Congressman said.
"Pearl’s family continues to live in my district, and Pakistan should do all it can to eliminate this vile group and combat terrorism in the region," he added.
Daniel was kidnapped by jihadi terrorists in January 2002 while he was on his way to what he had expected would be an interview with Pakistani religious cleric Mubarak Ali Gilani in Karachi.
The US lawmaker also told the Pakistani delegation that the protection of religious minorities in Pakistan remains an important issue.
"Christians, Hindus and Ahmadiyya Muslims living in Pakistan must be allowed to practice their faith and participate in the democratic system without fear of violence, persecution, discrimination, or an unequal justice system.”
Sherman further urged the Pakistani delegation to relay to their government the need to free Dr Shakil Afridi, who continues to languish in prison for helping the United States kill Osama bin Laden.
Afridi is a Pakistani physician who helped the CIA run a polio vaccination programme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to collect DNA samples of bin Laden’s family.
Afridi was arrested by Pakistani authorities shortly after the American raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad in May 2011. In 2012, a Pakistani court sentenced Afridi to 33 years in prison.
The Pakistani delegation timed its visit to the US capital around the same time as a multi-party delegation of Indian parliamentarians led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is in Washington DC.
The all-party delegation is briefing key interlocutors about Operation Sindoor in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s strong resolve to fight terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
Bhutto met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres with his delegation as well as Security Council Ambassadors in New York and later travelled to Washington in Pakistan’s bid to internationalise the conflict with India as well as the Kashmir issue, but instead got instructed to deal with terrorism emanating from its soil.

Preparing For The New Normal Post-Operation Sindoor
D S Hooda
Jun 7, 2025
As we approach a month since the launch of Operation Sindoor, it is an opportune moment to step back and assess the broader strategic insights emerging from this short but intense conflict. Much of the public conversation so far has remained fixated on tactical details such as counting destroyed targets, comparing aircraft losses, and evaluating the performance of weapon systems.
While such tactical assessments are necessary for refining military operations and capability development, they offer only a limited view. The real value lies in strategic takeaways and insights that can help us anticipate the contours of the next India-Pakistan crisis and shape our national response.
For India, the operation validated the new strategic doctrine of punitive military response to major terror attacks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that India will not distinguish between governments sponsoring terrorism and terrorist masterminds. This means that India will impose direct costs on the Pakistan military for acts of terrorism. In Operation Sindoor, while the initial targets were terrorist camps, the conflict rapidly escalated with strikes on military targets deep within Pakistan.
The use of military force in responding to terror attacks has risen sharply from the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes to the current operation. It is now clear that cost-imposition has become a fundamental part of India’s counter-terrorism strategy.
Pakistan understands that its nuclear posturing is no longer a deterrent for India to use military force, albeit in a limited manner. However, that does not mean that its nuclear forces have lost their utility. While there was no overt nuclear signalling in this crisis, it is possible that Pakistan raised the nuclear bogey with the US, which led to a flurry of calls between Washington, New Delhi, and Islamabad one day before the ceasefire was announced.
In the future, Pakistan may possibly lean even more heavily on its nuclear deterrent, seeking to constrain India’s conventional options to a level Islamabad believes it can absorb without catastrophic losses. Although India has decisively won this round, the damage to Pakistan’s military infrastructure is not so crippling that it would be prohibited from retaliating swiftly to any Indian future military strike.
Notions of victory and defeat are now not defined by material losses but by dominating the war of narratives. Both sides have declared victory — India in targeting terror camps and winning the escalation battle, and Pakistan in responding decisively to Indian aggression and causing aircraft losses. A flood of fake news and misinformation obscures facts, and wins could be scored irrespective of the facts on the ground. By cherry-picking metrics that define success, it is easy to sell your own story to a domestic public audience.
Drones, missiles, and standoff precision weapons are now the favoured weapons of war. While neither the air forces nor ground troops crossed into each other’s territory, significant damage was caused to Pakistan’s military infrastructure by BrahMos missiles and air-launched SCALP and Hammer munitions. Pakistan claimed to have shot down Indian fighter jets using beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles while remaining in their airspace.
There is an attractiveness to the use of unmanned and long-range systems as they minimise human losses and appear almost risk-free. It has been reported that the Indian military is now shopping for kamikaze drones, loitering munitions, missiles, and counter-drone systems. Pakistan is also exploring purchasing additional armed drones from China and Turkey.
Based on the lessons internalised by both sides, how could the next India-Pakistan crisis unfold? It would likely be more technologically advanced, faster-paced, and potentially broader in scope.
The 2025 clash has been dubbed by some analysts as South Asia’s first drone war. However, it was limited in scale and scope compared to the Ukraine conflict, where drones occupy a dominant space on the battlefield. In a possible conflict, swarms of armed drones, guided by AI and real-time data, could be used to overwhelm air defences and strike military installations. The side that masters drone warfare and counter-drone measures will have a significant edge. Additionally, precision-guided munitions will be ubiquitous, increasing lethality and the speed at which critical targets are destroyed. We could possibly also expect the geography of the conflict to expand.
The expansion of geography will also move to the digital realm. There will be an attempt by both sides to dominate the information domain by shaping the narrative from the very start of the conflict. India needs to start putting in place an effective information warfare strategy to deal with fake news and disinformation that would immediately flood social media at the start of the crisis. There could also be more disruptive cyberattacks on critical infrastructure.
Despite both sides accepting that limited military action under a nuclear overhang is possible, the nuclear shadow will still loom large. Pakistan could start its nuclear signalling very early in the conflict to bring in international mediation before India brings its conventional superiority to bear. India has warned that Pakistan’s nuclear blackmail does not deter it and is unlikely to halt operations unless it has some clear results to show that it has dominated the conflict. If misread, the conflicting signals from both sides could lead to a rapid escalation.
As India sharpens its military response to cross-border terrorism, its diplomatic posture must evolve in parallel. Indian diplomacy should not remain reactive or solely crisis-driven. Instead, it must proactively shape the strategic environment by building international consensus on Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism and ensuring that global powers are not blindsided when the next crisis erupts. The seamless alignment of clear political objectives, military strength and diplomatic finesse will define India’s ability to shape the outcomes.

Allahabad HC slams trial court, grants relief to BBC journalist in mosque demolition case
07.06.25
The Allahabad high court has granted relief to BBC journalist Mohammad Seraj Ali, who was named in a first information report (FIR) in connection with his reportage on the demolition of a mosque in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seraj had moved the high court challenging two orders issued by the Barabanki courts—one dated May 5, 2025, and the other dated August 21, 2023—which had rejected his application for a no objection certificate (NOC) necessary for the issuance or renewal of his passport.
Justice Abdul Moin noted that the trial court had failed to refer to the relevant office memorandums dated October 10, 2019, and August 25, 1993, while deciding Seraj’s request.
The court observed that this omission amounted to a “clear non-application of mind” and cited the recent judgment in Mohammad Ayaz v. State of UP in support of the decision to overturn the lower court's orders, reported Bar and Bench.
Quashing both the trial court orders, the high court allowed Seraj to file a fresh application for passport renewal or re-issuance before the Regional Passport Officer within 20 days.
The court directed that the passport authority must take a decision on the application within one month of its receipt, following due verification and formalities, and in view of the certified copy of the high court order.
A copy of the order will be forwarded to the deputy Solicitor General of India and the Additional Government Advocate of the state for communication to the relevant authorities.
Seraj’s counsel contended that the NOC had been wrongly denied, arguing that the trial court had failed to consider the applicable government guidelines on passport renewals in the context of pending criminal matters.
The counsel cited the office memorandums and the High Court’s recent ruling in Mohammad Ayaz Anas v. State of UP to support their case.
The FIR against Seraj stemmed from a video report he co-authored with journalist Mukul Singh Chauhan for The Wire, titled “How a Mosque in UP’s Barabanki was Demolished”*, which was published on June 22, 2021.
Seraj applied for passport renewal on September 30, 2022, disclosing the pending criminal case, as his passport was set to expire in April 2023.
The regional passport office required a NOC or a judicial order from the trial court, which was denied, leading to the present plea before the high court.

Eid prayers not allowed at Srinagar’s Jama Masjid, Mirwaiz alleges house arrest
Jun 07, 2025
PDP leaders Mehbooba Mufti and Iltija say as residents of “largest Muslim-majority state, Kashmiris have the right to worship. More than infrastructure, we need dignity and security of life.”
For the seventh year in a row, the authorities in Srinagar did not allow Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the historic Eidgah ground and Jamia Masjid in the old city on Saturday and placed Kashmir’s leading cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.
“Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, Srinagar, deeply regrets to inform that the authorities have once again disallowed Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Eidgah as well as at the historic Jama Masjid in by closing the gates of the mosque and deploying police personnel outside,” the management of the historic mosque said in a statement. It said the authorities did not even permit the pre-dawn (Fajr) prayers.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the move and posted on X: “Eid Mubarak! Yet again, Kashmir wakes up to the sad reality: no Eid prayers at Eidgah, and Jama Masjid locked down for the 7th straight year. I too have been detained at my home.”
“In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray -- even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world!” he said.
“What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,” Mirwaiz said on X.
After offering namaz at Hazratbal dargah on the outskirts of Srinagar, chief minister Omar Abdullah said, “While we are celebrating Eid, unfortunately, once again, permission was denied to offer namaz in Srinagar’s iconic Jama Masjid. I don’t know the basis of these decisions, but we need to learn to trust our people. These are the same people who came out to protest against the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The government should think about allowing namaz at the historic Jama Masjid.”

US sidelines Europe and turns to Gulf to drive Iran nuclear talks

Gulf states have eclipsed Europe as central players in the US’s efforts to secure a new nuclear deal with Iran, a stark reversal of roles a decade after they were sidelined and frustrated by an earlier landmark agreement with Tehran.
In part, the shift underscores how US President Donald Trump’s pursuit of his America First policy, and marginalising of traditional European allies, has created space for middle powers in the Gulf and elsewhere to try and influence America’s foreign policy.
While the Obama administration engaged in a multilateral process involving the UK, Germany, France, Russia and China for the 2015 agreement, known by its acronym the JCPOA, Trump is in effect pushing for a bilateral agreement with the Islamic republic, seeking a quick deal and threatening military action if diplomacy fails.
But the change also reflects a marked détente between the Gulf’s powerhouses — Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — and Iran.
The Sunni states, who have for decades viewed the predominantly Shia republic as a hostile and destabilising rival, have sought to de-escalate tensions with Tehran and avoid another eruption of conflict in the Middle East.
As a consequence, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi have gone from being among the loudest cheerleaders of Trump’s decision to abandon the JCPOA in 2018 and impose “maximum pressure” on Iran to publicly backing diplomatic efforts to resolve the nuclear stand-off between Tehran and the west.
It means the Gulf states are leveraging their ties with Trump to act as important counterweights to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is lobbying for military action.
“In his first term, Trump had Netanyahu and MBS [Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman] advising against a deal with Iran,” Vaez said. “Now he has Saudi Arabia urging him to strike a deal with Iran, and MBS is more influential than Netanyahu, so it’s very important.”

Double standards and colonialism: Why the global South does not support the West or Russia
June 6, 2025
The issue of double standards is central to understanding why many countries in the Global South have refused to align with the West over Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. NATO’s 1999 bombing campaign against Serbia and 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, both undertaken without UN authorization, and the decades-long ignoring of Israeli crimes against Palestinians, especially now in the carnage taking place in Gaza, have led the Global South to accuse the West of double standards over human rights, writes TarasKuzio.
Azerbaijan has long felt this double standard towards its sovereign territories that were occupied by Armenia from 1992-2023. Three co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, the US, and France – were aligned in different ways with Armenia throughout its three-decade existence from 1992-2022. The Soviet Union and Russia supported for religious and geopolitical reasons Armenia’s military victory in the First Karabakh War from 1988-1992. The US adopted discriminatory legislation in Section 907 of the US Freedom Support Act against only one former Soviet state – Azerbaijan. France, with of its large and influential Armenian diaspora, was always going to be pro-Armenia. SossiTatikyan, an analyst at the French think tank Institut Montaigne, wrote: ‘France’s support for Armenia extends far beyond Macron or his political camp-it represents a broad national consensus across the right, left, and centre. Some French politicians have even advocated for stronger support of Armenia and tougher measures against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has only a handful of supporters in France...’
Another influential factor in France is growing anti-Muslim sentiments by far-right politicians which has spread across the political spectrum and led to a misplaced view of Armenia and Azerbaijan being enmeshed in a ‘Christian-Muslim’ conflict - which they are not. Azerbaijan is the most secular Islamic country in the world.
With the largest Muslim population in Europe, France has a problem with racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported: ‘In recent years, there has been a shift in French political rhetoric in favour of Armenia, said Regis Gente, a French journalist and analyst who covers the Caucasus. The shift has been driven by the increasing prominence of the far right in French politics, which is animated by anti-Muslim sentiment and has taken on the cause of Christian Armenia against Muslim Azerbaijan, Gente told RFE/RL.’ Gente continued: ‘The [French] political agenda is being set by the far right.’

Zelenskyy: Russian truckers had no idea they were transporting Ukraine’s secret drone arsenal
by Maria Tril
07/06/2025
Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelenskyy confirmed that Russian truck drivers who unknowingly transported Ukrainian drones into Russia had no knowledge of their cargo’s true purpose during the large-scale attack on Russian military airfields.
Operation Spiderweb, carried out by Ukraine’s Security Service, was a large-scale surprise Ukrainian drone strike on five Russian airbases that involved 117 drones covertly smuggled into Russia and launched from hidden compartments in trucks. The attack destroyed or damaged over 40 strategic bombers, amounting to about $7 bn in losses and about one-third of Russia’s long-range strike fleet used for attacks on Ukraine.
“They didn’t know anything. They just did their job,” Zelenskyy told ABC News correspondent Martha Raddatz in an exclusive interview airing on This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
The drivers transported what they believed were mobile cottages and other containers, unaware that the structures contained drones equipped to assault Russian airfields and damage military hardware worth billions of dollars.

Jaish al-Adl: A Common Foe, Shi’ite Islamic Republic of Iran, Draws Taliban And Tehran Together
Mahbob Shah Mahbob
07-06-2025
Once bitter enemies, the Shi’ite Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sunni Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan under the Taliban are finding common cause in a shared foe.
Tehran and Kabul are stepping up intelligence cooperation against Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni militant group operating in the lawless border region straddling Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.
The unlikely collaboration - corroborated by Afghan security officials both from the ousted US-backed government and the Taliban as well as former Jaish al-Adl members - faces a formidable challenge confronting the shadowy fighters after they scooped up a bonanza of US weapons left amid their hasty withdrawal in 2021.
In a high-level bilateral meeting in Tehran 2021, Taliban officials pledged to their Iranian counterparts to combat the group, a senior source from the Taliban-controlled Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Afghanistan International.

Afghanistan Hunger Crisis: One in Five require urgent food assistance
By Fidel Rahmati
June 6, 2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that one in every five people in Afghanistan is dependent on humanitarian aid to survive. The agency warned that if international support continues to decline, millions more Afghans will face severe hunger and food insecurity in the coming months.
According to the latest WFP assessment, approximately 20% of Afghanistan’s population is currently in crisis and in urgent need of food assistance. The report states that nearly 15 million people could experience critical food shortages if global aid drops further.
The WFP estimates that between May and October 2025, around 9.5 million Afghans will require immediate food support. Of this population, about 1.6 million are expected to be in the emergency phase (IPC Phase 4), while nearly 7.93 million will fall under the crisis phase (IPC Phase 3) of food insecurity.

Afghan TPS holders should have applied for permanent residency, Says US State Department
By Fidel Rahmati
June 6, 2025
The U.S. State Department has responded to growing concerns over the cancellation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghan refugees, stating that individuals under this program were expected to apply for permanent residency.
Deputy State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated during a press briefing on Thursday, June 5, that TPS was always intended to be a short-term benefit. He emphasized that the status would eventually end, and beneficiaries should have made efforts toward more stable immigration pathways.
Pigott also stressed the importance of ensuring that Afghan individuals entering the U.S. undergo thorough vetting. “It is essential for the U.S. government to verify the background and eligibility of each Afghan entrant,” he said, highlighting national security concerns.
In addressing the impact of President Donald Trump’s recent executive order, Pigott noted that an exception was made for holders of the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV), a program specifically designed for Afghans who worked with U.S. missions.

Eid Reflections from a Gaza Survivor
EmanAlhaj Ali
June 6, 2025
I remember writing about Eid in Gaza two years ago during the genocide, feeling my heart break as I expressed the bittersweet feelings we endured during that time. Now, I write these words from a different place—far from the appalling sounds of bombs, from being trapped in a cage, from a graveyard of destruction. I am writing as a survivor of the genocide, having lived under its suffocating grip for more than 17 months. While I write, I feel like I am dreaming; I wish someone would wake me up and tell me this is reality. Words fail to describe how I managed to evacuate Gaza alone to continue my postgraduate studies just two months ago, leaving my family suffering behind. Gaza will never leave me—something I remind myself of daily.
This year, on June 6th, we mark Eid Al Adha for Muslims around the world, but this Eid feels different for me. I am alone here in exile, while my family and the people of Gaza suffer, unable to feel the blessing of this occasion.
Muslims celebrate two Eids, Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, and in Gaza before the genocide, there were cherished rituals and traditions that marked these days. Let me take you on that journey. Not only do my people in Gaza cling to those memories and celebrations, but I myself hold onto them with tearful eyes, recalling even the simplest moments. I know how hard it is to experience such occasions amid war and killings. I lived through those heart-wrenching moments with my family: empty streets replaced by rubble, the sounds of Takbirat during Eid prayers filled with agony, and the absence of joy. In Gaza, instead of celebrating, people mourn; mothers mourn their children, others sit on rubble, some visit the graves of martyrs—if they are lucky enough to find them, as even graves have been bombed. For me, in exile, I feel suffocated, far from my parents, from my young siblings who would run to me, hugging me tightly and asking, “Where is the candy? Where is the Eidia?” The feeling of loneliness amidst many people around me is heartbreaking. Even if I try to find happiness in other ways, going here, going there, I still remember those Eids with my family. I long to return, even for the simplest moments, to be near them again.

Gaza marks the start of Eid with outdoor prayers in the rubble and food growing ever scarcer
By WafaaShurafa
June 6, 2025
DEIR AL BALAH, Gaza Strip — Palestinians across the war-ravaged Gaza Strip marked the start of one of Islam’s most important holidays with prayers outside destroyed mosques and homes early Friday, with little hope the war with Israel will end soon.
With much of Gaza in rubble, men, women and children were forced to hold the traditional Eid al-Adha prayers in the open air and with food supplies dwindling, families were having to make do with what they could scrape together for the three-day feast.
“This is the worst feast that the Palestinian people have experienced because of the unjust war against the Palestinian people,” said KamelEmran after attending prayers in the southern city of Khan Yunis. “There is no food, no flour, no shelter, no mosques, no homes, no mattresses. ... The conditions are very, very harsh.”
The Islamic holiday begins on the 10th day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhul-Hijja, during the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia. For the second year, Muslims in Gaza were not able to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform the traditional pilgrimage.
In Gaza City on Friday, Sanaa Al-Ghola, a displaced woman from Shejaiyah, stood in the rubble of a badly damaged graveyard near a partially collapsed mosque. She had come to pray for her son, Mohamed al-Ghoul, who she said was killed in shelling last month after going to his grandfather’s house to get flour. His father was wounded in the attack.
“We lost our home, money, and everything,” she said, crying as she held her son’s photo. “There is no more Eid after you’re gone, my son.”
Tahrir Abu Jazar, 36, of Rafah, warmed up leftover lentils and cooked rice inside her tent, but said she had no bread to feed her five children, who sat on the bare ground nearby.
“There are no Eid celebrations now as there is no new clothes or sacrificial meat, or monetary gifts, or joy,” she said, reminiscing over Eid days before the war when the children had meat. “My son went out and tried to celebrate Eid and was scared of the warplane, so he came back.”
In the southern city of Rafah, nine people were killed on their way to try to collect humanitarian aid at various distribution points, according to officials at Nasser Hospital in nearby Khan Yunis, where the bodies were brought. Eight died from gunshot wounds and the ninth person from shrapnel injuries.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a newly formed group of mainly American contractors that Israel wants to use to replace humanitarian groups in Gaza that distribute aid in coordination with the U.N., told the Associated Press that reports of violence in Rafah were inaccurate and that aid distribution was completed “peacefully and without incident.”
In northern Gaza on Friday, Israel issued a new warning to civilians saying the military was about to undertake intensive operations in an area after it said rockets were fired toward Israel from the sector.
Meanwhile, the military said four Israeli soldiers were killed Friday in southern Gaza when an explosive detonated as they searched a Hamas compound in Khan Yunis, causing part of a building to collapse. Five soldiers were injured, one seriously, spokesperson Effie Defrin said.
The war broke out on Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducted 251 hostages. They are still holding 56 hostages, around a third of them believed to be alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefire agreements or other deals. Israeli forces have rescued eight living hostages from Gaza and recovered dozens of bodies.
Since then, Israel has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians in its military campaign, primarily women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its figures.
After blocking all food and aid from entering Gaza for more than two months, Israel began allowing a trickle of supplies to enter for the U.N. several weeks ago. But the U.N says it has been unable to distribute much of the aid because of Israeli military restrictions on movements and because roads that the military designates for its trucks to use are unsafe and vulnerable to looters.
The U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome said Thursday that Gaza’s people are projected to fall into acute food insecurity by September, with nearly 500,000 people experiencing extreme food deprivation, leading to malnutrition and starvation.

Tehran, IRNA – The Iranian embassy in France has held a ceremony to mark the 36th anniversary of the passing of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Noting that the Islamic Republic was the outcome of the Islamic Revolution, he said this system was established based on the people’s votes, within the framework of Islamic values.
Imam Khomeini proved that a nation can pursue the path of progress, dignity, and honor, relying neither on the East nor the West but through faith, wisdom, and popular participation.

Iran says US travel ban shows 'deep hostility' for Iranians, Muslims

Iran on Saturday (June 7) blasted US President Donald Trump's travel ban on countries including the Islamic Republic, saying it showed "deep hostility" toward Iranians and Muslims.
"The decision to ban the entry of Iranian nationals - merely due to their religion and nationality - not only indicates the deep hostility of American decision-makers towards the Iranian people and Muslims but also violates... international law," a senior foreign ministry official said in a ministry statement posted on the X social media platform.

What is President Erdogan’s Grand Plan?
June 7, 2025
By: Robert Ellis
When the great church of Holy Wisdom, Hagia Sophia, was completed in Constantinople in AD 537, Emperor Justinian exclaimed, “Oh, Solomon, I have vanquished thee!” a reference to King Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem. This is likely the same feeling that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will experience when a new Turkish constitution replaces the 1982 constitution, which reflects the secular values of modern Turkey’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Erdogan calls the 1982 constitution “the military constitution,” since it was drafted in the aftermath of the military coup in 1980. Now, he has appointed a commission of ten lawyers to draft a new constitution, which he claims will be “civil and liberal.”
The preamble of the 1982 constitution states that “sacred religious feelings shall absolutely not be involved in state affairs and politics as required by the principle of secularism.” Article 24 stipulates that “No one shall be allowed to exploit or abuse religion or religious feelings, or things held sacred by religion, in any manner whatsoever, for the purpose of personal or political interest or influence, or for even partially basing the fundamental, social, economic, political, and legal order of the State on religious tenets.” But this is precisely what Erdogan has done.
The debate about Turkey’s secular constitution dates back to 1994 when Erdogan was elected mayor of Istanbul for Necmettin Erbakan’s Welfare Party (RP), which advocated for political Islam. Eight months after being elected, Erdogan took part in a TV debate when an intellectual, Aziz Nesin, criticized Erdogan for stating, “I am a follower of Sharia (Islamic law).” Erdogan retorted, “Nesin has the freedom and the right to say ‘I am irreligious.’ Why can’t I have the right to say I am a Muslim and a follower of Sharia?”

Iran blasts Trump for ‘racist mentality’ and hostility to Muslims over travel ban
7 Jun 2025
Tehran has denounced the US travel ban on Iranians and citizens of 11 other mostly Middle Eastern and African countries, saying Washington’s decision was a sign of a “racist mentality”.
Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday reviving sweeping restrictions that echo the US president’s first-term travel ban, justified on national security grounds after a firebomb attack at a pro-Israel rally in Colorado.
AlirezaHashemi-Raja, the foreign ministry’s director general for the affairs of Iranians abroad, called the measure – which takes effect on 9 June – “a clear sign of the dominance of a supremacist and racist mentality among American policymakers”.
The decision “indicates the deep hostility of American decision-makers towards the Iranian and Muslim people”, he added in a statement the ministry released on Saturday.
Apart from Iran, the US ban targets nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. A partial ban was imposed on travellers from seven other countries.

Eid celebration in style: How Nigerian muslims lit up this year’s celebration with culture and colour
ChiomaOnuh
June 7, 2025
Eid Mubarak this year was more than just a religious celebration. Across Nigeria, it became a canvas for expression, identity, and unity, told through vibrant colours, flowing fabrics, and the elegance of tradition. From the streets of Lagos to family homes in Kaduna, Muslims stepped out in their finest, blending faith with fashion in ways that spoke volumes about heritage and pride.
As early as dawn, men and women made their way to the mosques in freshly pressed kaftans, abayas, and flowing agbadas. Children looked like royalty in tiny matching sets, with proud parents showing off coordinated family looks that made passersby smile. And just like that, the spirit of the season filled the air—not just with prayer and gratitude, but with style that turned every corner into a mini fashion parade.
This year’s celebration saw a beautiful return to tradition with a modern twist. While women stunned in sequinned kaftans, richly embroidered dresses, and silk turbans, men embraced clean tailoring with agbadas in neutral tones, caps to match, and brocade details that made every photo worth framing. On Instagram and X, timelines lit up with posts carrying the “#EidMubarak” hashtag, capturing not only the outfits but the joy that came with them.

Stranded, sick, and sleeping in shifts: Court halts deportation; Ice officers, detainees left in limbo in East Africa's Djibouti
Jun 7, 2025
A contingent of men deported from the US to Djibouti, East Africa, are stranded in a converted shipping container alongside US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) officers who were tasked with their supervision after a court halted their deportation flight to South Sudan.
Since late May, eight individuals from Latin America, Asia and South Sudan, along with Ice staff, have remained confined at a US naval facility. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that Ice officers began experiencing symptoms "within 72 hours of landing" in Djibouti, with ongoing suspected bacterial upper respiratory infections, the Guardian reported.
The administration's plan to deport eight detainees with alleged criminal convictions to South Sudan was blocked by judicial intervention in May, upholding their right to contest the deportation through legal channels.

Eid ul-Adha meat should be shared with non-Muslims — Sheikh AbukariIssah
AbukariAlhassan Baba
Jun - 07 - 2025
The Northern Regional Chairman of the Muslim Council, Sheikh AlhassanAbukariIssah, has urged Muslims to extend the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha to non-Muslims as a demonstration of love, kindness and inclusivity.
He emphasised that while many Muslims view Eid as a celebration exclusively for followers of Islam, it is essential to share the blessings of the occasion, particularly the sacrificial meat with people of other faiths.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, Sheikh Issah stated that sharing Eid-ul-Adha meat and festivities with non-Muslims fostered understanding, respect, and peaceful coexistence among different religious communities.
“Let us showcase Islam as a religion that does not discriminate. It is time to show love to those who are not Muslims, to let them see the beauty of Islam,” he said.
Sheikh Issah explained that the Qur’an distinguished between two categories of non-Muslims — those who are hostile to Islam and those who live peacefully with Muslims, adding that Muslims were enjoined by the Qur’an to treat the latter with kindness and compassion.

Cheaper, riskier, more meaningful: Why Malaysians send their Korban abroad for Aidiladha
By Arif Zikri
07 Jun 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — More Malaysian Muslims are choosing to perform their Hari Raya Korban abroad, citing lower costs and a desire to help communities in crisis.
There is also an increasing number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and companies that offer end-to-end services – letting donors choose livestock, countries, and recipients with just a few clicks – and cheaper livestock prices in countries like Thailand, India and Chad than at home.
Malaysian Islamic authorities also do not restrict Muslims from performing their Qurban overseas, even though it is encouraged that they do it locally.

Citizens, residents celebrate Eid Al-Adha with faith and fervour
07 Jun 2025
Doha, Qatar: Qatar came alive with the vibrant spirit of Eid Al Adha yesterday as the nation, known for blending tradition with modernity, marked the joyous occasion with heartfelt prayers, communal gatherings, and acts of charity, reflecting the deep-rooted values of faith, unity, and generosity.
The day began with thousands of worshippers flocking to mosques across the country for the special Eid prayers. Major mosques, including the iconic Imam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, were adorned with lights and filled to capacity as families dressed in their finest attire gathered to offer thanks and seek blessings.
The sermons emphasized the significance of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice, urging the faithful to embody selflessness and compassion in their daily lives.
Following the prayers, the traditional ritual of animal sacrifice took place in designated facilities adhering to Qatar’s strict health and safety standards.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment ensured that slaughterhouses operated smoothly, with streamlined processes for meat distribution. In line with the festival’s ethos, much of the meat was shared with families, neighbors, and the less fortunate, both locally and abroad.
Charitable organizations played a pivotal role, facilitating meat donations to communities in need across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha
6 Jun 2025
Muslims around the globe are celebrating Eid al-Adha, one of the biggest holidays in the Islamic calendar that commemorates sacrifice and submission to God.
The festival, running from June 6-9, honours the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to obey God’s command that he sacrifice his only son Ismail, ignoring the devil’s attempts to dissuade him from the act.
The devil appeared before Ibrahim three times, but the prophet responded by throwing stones, driving him away. As he was about to kill his son, God stayed his hand and spared his son, giving him a lamb to sacrifice instead.
The “Feast of Sacrifice” is traditionally marked by the slaughter of an animal, typically a goat, sheep, cow, bull or camel, with the meat shared among neighbours, family members and the poor.

How pilgrims can embrace sustainability during Hajj to reduce their environmental impact
Haifa Alshammari
June 06, 2025
RIYADH: As millions of Muslims gather in Makkah for Hajj, concern is growing over the environmental toll of one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings — particularly the vast quantities of plastic waste left behind.
From water bottles to shopping bags, single-use plastics are a staple at major public events, and Hajj is no exception. Given the sheer volume of pilgrims, this waste can have lasting environmental consequences, unless mitigated by more sustainable choices.
Fortunately, awareness is growing among individuals and organizations about the harm caused by plastic pollution. Many are now turning to greener alternatives to reduce their footprint during the holy season.

'Never imagined detention in US': Columbia student Mahmoud Khalil pleads for release; says arrest caused 'irreparable harm' to family, career
Jun 7, 2025
Columbia University alumnus, currently facing deportation due to his pro-Palestinian activism, has detailed the significant "irreparable harm" due to his ongoing detention to his personal and professional life, while a federal judge considers his release.
In court documents made public on Thursday, Mahmoud Khalil described how the “most immediate and visceral harms” due to his detention in Louisiana was him missing the birth of his firstborn in April, reported the Associated Press. "Instead of holding my wife's hand in the delivery room, I was crouched on a detention centre floor, whispering through a crackling phone line as she laboured alone," the 30-year-old legal US resident wrote. "When I heard my son's first cries, I buried my face in my arms so no one would see me weep."
The detention has severely affected his professional prospects, with Oxfam International withdrawing their employment offer for a policy adviser position.
Additionally, his mother's visa application to assist with his newborn's care is currently under federal scrutiny. "As someone who fled prosecution in Syria for my political beliefs, for who I am, I never imagined myself to be in immigration detention, here in the United States," he wrote. "Why should protesting this Israel government's indiscriminate killing of thousands of innocent Palestinians result in the erosion of my constitutional rights?"
The Department of Homeland Security's spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin, suggested Khalil utilise the CBP Home app for voluntary deportation, offering $1,000 and complimentary travel.

Delta warns Trump’s tariffs on commercial planes could ground millions a year, disrupt aircraft deliveries
Jun 7, 2025
Delta Air Lines has issued a stark warning that proposed tariffs under a national security investigation could severely disrupt its operations, potentially grounding flights for millions of passengers annually.
In legal documentation submitted to the US government and shared with Fox News Digital, Delta objected to possible tariffs stemming from a Commerce Department probe into the national security implications of imported aviation equipment.
The airline cautioned that “without providing time to adjust, any potential tariffs would not only threaten US manufacturing of aircraft, it would also inhibit Delta's ability to purchase aircraft produced domestically or abroad.”
Delta emphasized that new tariffs imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act would function as a sudden tax on long-standing purchase agreements, jeopardising both existing and future aircraft deals. “If Commerce were to recommend tariffs under Section 232, the action would also impose an unexpected tax on Delta's purchases of aircraft contracted years in advance,” the airline stated. “Delta would likely be forced to cancel existing contracts and reconsider contracts under negotiation.”
The document further warned that the tariffs would undermine Delta’s ongoing efforts to grow its skilled manufacturing services and compromise its ability to maintain a modern, competitive fleet for US consumers.

'What American justice looks like': Man mistakenly deported to El Salvador back to US; faces federal charges, says attorney general
Jun 7, 2025
KilmarAbrego Garcia, who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March, has returned to the United States to face federal criminal charges, attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday.
Following extensive diplomatic negotiations between El Salvador's government and the Trump administration, Bondi, in apress briefing said, "Abrego Garcia has landed in the United States to face justice," adding "this is what American justice looks like." She further expressed gratitude to El Salvador's President NayibBukele for facilitating Abrego Garcia's return to US soil. "Our government presented El Salvador with an arrest warrant and they agreed to return him to our country," Bondi said.
However, she also added that after the trial in US, "upon completion of his sentence, we anticipate he will be returned to his home country of El Salvador".
Meanwhile, the legal representative of Abrego Garcia, in a statement to ABC News, voiced his commitment to continue pursuing a fair trial for his client. "From the beginning, this case has made one thing painfully clear: The government had the power to bring him back at any time. Instead, they chose to play games with the court and with a man's life," said attorney Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg. "We're not just fighting for Kilmar -- we're fighting to ensure due process rights are protected for everyone. Because tomorrow, this could be any one of us -- if we let power go unchecked, if we ignore our Constitution."
This development comes over two months following the Trump administration's acknowledgement that they erroneously deported him to El Salvador, his country of origin, from his residence in Maryland. The federal judiciary and Trump administration have been engaged in a prolonged dispute over court directives requiring the government to "facilitate" Abrego Garcia's return from El Salvador following his incorrect deportation in mid-March. One federal judge cautioned this situation could create an "incipient crisis" between the governmental branches.

Trump vs AP: US Court rules Trump can exclude AP from key White House events for now; President celebrates victory in legal battle
Jun 7, 2025
US President Donald Trump is free to restrict the Associated Press from attending some White House media events for now, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled.
The decision overturns US District Judge Trevor McFadden's April 8 ruling, which had mandated AP journalists' access to the Oval Office, Air Force One, and White House events during ongoing legal proceedings, Reuters reprted.
U.S. Circuit Judge Neomi Rao, supported by US Circuit Judge Gregory Katsas, authored the majority opinion. Rao stated that the previous injunction interfered with presidential authority over private workspaces and indicated the White House would likely prevail in the AP lawsuit.
Calling AP a "fake news," Trump celebrated the legal ruling after US Curt announced the verdict in his favour. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, "Big WIN over AP today. They refused to state the facts or the Truth on the GULF OF AMERICA. FAKE NEWS!!!"
It all started after AP didn't comply with the Trump's directive to call the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America." Furious about the same, the Trump administration in February barred the AP from covering events in the Oval Office, aboard Air Force One and other restricted areas.
The AP filed a lawsuit in response, saying that the administration violated the First and Fifth amendments by retaliating against the outlet for its editorial decisions.
