PM Modi
Keeps Up Reservation and anti-Muslim Rhetoric, Says No One Can Snatch Your Reservation
and Give It to ‘Intruders’ Who Practice ‘Vote Jihad’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
-----
May 23, 2024
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Congress and its INDIA bloc
partners had partitioned the country into three nations, including two Muslim
countries, for their “vote bank” and were now saying that Muslims also had the
first right on the remaining part of India.
He again
accused the Opposition alliance of wanting to snatch the reservation to the
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes guaranteed by the
Constitution and give it to those who practised “vote jihad”.
Mr. Modi
was speaking at a rally in Haryana’s Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha
constituency. Referring to a recent West Bengal High Court verdict cancelling
five lakh OBC certificates, he claimed that the reservation meant for the OBCs
was being distributed to the “intruders” and the anti-reservation mentality of
the INDIA bloc now stood exposed. “The West Bengal CM has announced to not
adhere to the court order. She will give the OBC reservation to the Muslims.
The Congress, the TMC and the INDI alliance partners are standing firmly with
their vote bank, then who will stand for you?” he asked.
The
Prime Minister said that he was the watchman for the rights of the deprived
ones and had come to assure them in Haryana that no one could ever snatch their
reservation so long as he was alive. “It is not an election speech. It is
Modi’s guarantee,” he said.
Mr. Modi
claimed that the INDIA bloc partners could go to any length to keep their vote
bank intact and that the Congress, if it could have its way, would arrest
people for even uttering the word “Ram”. He alleged that Congress wanted to
obliterate “Ram” from the entire country. “So long as Congress was in power, it
did not allow the construction of Ram Mandir. They even boycotted the Ram
Mandir consecration ceremony. And now an advisor to the Congress’s prince has
revealed that the party wants to put lock on the Ram Mandir if returned to
power,” he claimed.
Mr. Modi
said the INDIA bloc parties, after the third phase of the elections, started
targeting the Election Commission for the delay in the release of voter turnout
data as they could sense their imminent defeat and were looking for a
scapegoat. “Every vote cast to the Congress will be a waste, since the Congress
can never form a government,” he said, adding that INDIA bloc parties were
saying that they would have five Prime Ministers in five years if voted to
power.

Politicians
Urged Not to Target Muslims for Electoral Gains: Organisation for UK Muslims
Muslim Council of Britain secretary general Zara Mohammed
----
23 May, 2024
With
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calling for the general election on July 4 and
political parties wooing the electorate, a prominent organisation for UK
Muslims has urged political leaders not to use minorities as a “punching bag”
to score points during campaigns.
The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) is calling
for “hopeful” political lobbying following prime minister Rishi Sunak’s
announcement, the Independent reports.
MCB
secretary general Zara Mohammed has urged the political parties to ‘resist the
urge’ to scapegoat Muslims and minorities. They should pursue a campaign that
is hopeful and proposes a future where all Britons can play a positive role,
she added.
Zara
said after the Gaza crisis erupted, prominent politicians and their supportive
media had stepped up their rhetoric against Muslims. They were cast as the
enemy within and questioning their right to play an equal part in the country’s
democracy.
Britain’s
leading political parties face a crisis in confidence among Muslim communities
amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
A recent
poll by HOPE not Hate showed that 58 per cent of Conservative Party members
think Islam is a threat to the British way of life, while the Labour Party’s
support amongst British Muslims has sharply declined after Keir Starmer’s
initial response to the Gaza war.
It had
also cost Labour dear in Muslim-majority pockets during the recent civic
elections and a major upset at Rochdale by-election where George Galloway of
Workers Party of Britain won on its anti-war stance.
Zara
said the Gaza conflict is currently a key concern for many Muslim people across
the UK, as well as a range of other issues close to home.
There
has been a rise in Islamophobic incidents across the country with people being
targeted over their support for Palestine.
She
called for proactive engagement with diverse Muslim communities, addressing
health and elderly care disparities, and supporting refugees and asylum
seekers.

Bangladesh
PM: Plot Afoot for New State, Like East Timor, Carved Out of Bangladesh,
Myanmar
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
-----
May 24,
2024
Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday alleged that a plot is on to carve out "a
Christian state like East Timor" taking parts from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
She also
claimed that she was offered a hassle-free re-election in the January 7 polls
if she allowed a foreign country to build an airbase in Bangladesh territory.
But she
did not mention the country's name.
Hasina,
also the Awami League president, was delivering her introductory speech at the
14-party meeting at the Gono Bhaban last night. It was the 14-party's first
meeting with the AL president after the national polls.
The
premier said she faces challenges both at home and abroad and the conspiracy is
afoot, reports UNB.
She
said, "Like East Timor ... they will carve out a Christian country taking
parts of Bangladesh [Chattogram] and Myanmar with a base in the Bay of
Bengal."
Hasina
mentioned that business activities have been going through the Bay and the
Indian Ocean from ancient times. "Many have their eyes on this place.
There is no controversy here, no conflict. I won't let that happen. This is
also one of my crimes [in their eyes]," she said.
About
the proposal for airbase, the premier said, "The offer came from a white
man."
"It
may appear that it is aimed at only one country, but it is not. I know where
else they intend to go," she said and stated that this is why the Awami
League government is always in trouble.
"There
will be more trouble. But don't worry about it."
"If
I allowed a certain country to build an airbase in Bangladesh, then I would
have had no problem."
She
alleged that the BNP had conspired to prevent the election.
Hasina
also mentioned that she made the same reply as she did in 2001 when the US
offered to sell the country's gas to India.
She also
said, "If inflation can be reduced now, people would be relieved.
Production is sufficient. There is no shortage."
Hasina
said foreign exchange reserves of many countries are decreasing, including
Bangladesh. "There is no need to worry about the reserves if there is food
stock in times of emergency."
After
delivering her introductory speech, Hasina held a closed-door meeting with the
partners of the 14-party alliance where she said conspiracies were being
hatched to topple the government and she might have to face the same
consequence her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman faced, sources said.
However,
she said conspiracies did not bother her and she would never bow down to
pressure.
The
premier told the meeting that Bangladesh will not purchase anything from
countries that impose sanctions on it, a top leader of the 14-party quoted
Hasina as saying.
As
leaders of the AL's partner parties asked whether the alliance was relevant,
Hasina replied in the affirmative.
Workers
Party President Rashed Khan Menon observed that extremism and Salafism were
rising alarmingly while Samyabadi Dal leader Dilip Barua said Bangladesh was on
course to become an Islamic republic, said insiders.
Dilip
further said a section of AL leaders questioned whether the partner parties
were popular, even though the 14-party alliance was formed amid political
necessity, not on the consideration that the parties would attract more votes.
He
pointed out that Bangladesh Kalyan Party was not very popular and its chairman
Major General (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim was still a lawmaker, said sources.
"Why
couldn't some top leaders of the 14-party alliance win and not get Awami League
support during the January 7 election?" he asked.
Jatiya
Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haque Inu said 14-party partners supported
the AL through thick and thin, even during the political changeover of January
11 in 2007, when many AL leaders betrayed Hasina, Inu said.
Tarikat
Federation Chairman Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizvandari said he filed cases against
Jamaat-e-Islami and the AL benefited from it, but he and his party were
"nowhere near power", said sources.
He
blamed a section of AL leaders for forming several "king's parties"
ahead of the January 7 election to compete against his party.
Communist
Kendra leader Asit Baran Roy told the meeting that Bangabandhu dreamt of
economic freedom for the people, but the country is not free from corruption
and fundamentalism.
Rather,
economic and social disparity widened, he said, expressing concerns over the
rising price of essentials and demanded the government's step to bring the
prices down, said the sources.

Barack
Obama: The First US Muslim President? Google's AI Overview Faces Backlash For
Describing Ex-President As Such
Barack
Obama
-----
May 24,
2024
This is
what Nic Chahine averages with his options buys. Not selling covered calls or
spreads... BUYING options. Most traders don't even have a winning percentage of
27% buying options. He has an 83% win rate. Here's how he does it.
Google began rolling out "AI
Overviews," previously known as Search Generative Experience or SGE, to
the users in the U.S. However, now after almost two weeks, the feature appears
to give users more headaches than utility.
What
Happened: On social media platforms like X, formerly Twitter and Threads, users
have been bombarding screenshots of summaries shared by AI Overviews — and it's
filled with rather unusual responses.
For
instance, when a user asked how to prevent the cheese from falling off their
pizza, the Google AI suggested adding glue to the sauce. The worst part is
Google based the answer on a Reddit comment but failed to pick up on the
sarcasm.
Another
erroneous response stated that former U.S. President Barack Obama was the first
Muslim President of the U.S.
Google
spokesperson Meghann Farnsworth acknowledged the errors, attributing them to
“generally very uncommon queries” and assuring that the tech giant is taking
action against policy violations, reported The Verge. She also stated that
these “isolated examples” are being used to improve the product.
Why It
Matters: The AI Overviews feature was unveiled at the Google I/O event earlier
this month, where it provided a questionable solution for fixing a jammed film
camera. This feature’s widespread deployment by Google, despite its flaws,
highlights the challenges faced by companies developing AI technologies.
Google
has also acknowledged that this wouldn’t be perfect, adding a “Generative AI is
experimental” label at the bottom of the AI answers. However, it’s evident that
these tools are not yet capable of accurately providing information at scale.
Previously,
it was reported that while Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been touting the
success of this feature, Google Trends data shows that many people are
searching for ways to “turn off AI on Google.”
Meanwhile,
in February, earlier this year, Google faced a massive uproar over its Gemini
AI chatbot. The tech giant's AI innovation received criticism from tech moguls
like Elon Musk also for generating historically inaccurate images and text.
At the
time, Google’s CEO reportedly said that this issue was completely unacceptable.
At the time, Google stated, “We're already working to address recent issues
with Gemini's image generation feature. While we do this, we're going to pause
the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon.”

Balocha Gujarati Muslim Man Killed by Cow Vigilantes for Transporting Buffaloes
24 May
2024
A Muslim
man was killed allegedly by a group of cow vigilantes when he was transporting
buffaloes in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district on Thursday, reported The Indian
Express.
While a
minority rights organisation called the killing an instance of “mob lynching”,
the police denied that the crime was of such a nature.
The
police have accused five men of involvement in the killing and have taken two
of them in custody.
The man
who was killed was identified as Mishrikhan Baloch, a resident of Banaskantha’s
Sesan Nava village. On Thursday morning, Mishrikhan, along with another
villager named HussainkhanHajjibabukhan Baloch, was travelling with two
buffaloes to an animal market in the town of Deesa when the tyre of their
vehicle got punctured, according to The Times of India.
Hussainkhan
told the police that the accused persons then approached them in a sports
utility vehicle. He said that the accused men, who had an altercation with him
in July as well, began abusing him for having filed police complaints against
them. The police complaints at that time were also related to a dispute about
transporting buffaloes.
Hussainkhan
said that when the accused persons began abusing him and threatening to kill
him, he and Mishrikhan tried to escape in their vehicle, but the punctured tyre
burst. The police said that Hussainkhan then fled the spot, while the attackers
managed to get hold of Mishrikhan.
Mishrikhan
was then allegedly beaten with iron rods and machetes and killed. Hussainkhan
then filed a complaint with the police.
A case
has been filed against five persons named AkherajsinhParbatsinh Vaghela,
Nikulsinh, Jagatsinh, Pravinsinh and Hamirbhai Thakor, The Indian Express
reported. The men have been booked for murder, wrongful restraint, criminal
intimidation and criminal conspiracy.
The
police have reportedly detained Jagatsinh and Hamirbhai and are searching for
the others.
A
voluntary organisation named the Minority Coordination Committee Gujarat called
the killing a case of mob lynching and urged Director General of Police Vikas
Sahay to follow Supreme Court guidelines on preventing such crimes.
Banaskantha
District Superintendent of Police Akshayraj Makwana, however, claimed that the
killing could not be called mob lynching.
“It
would require some communal aspect to term the incident as mob lynching,” he
said. “This incident seems to have happened because of the past incident [from
July 2023] and it appears that the accused did not intend to murder but rather
intimidate the deceased.”

Italian
shipbuilding giant floats Saudi Arabia partnership plan
May 23,
2024
RIYADH:
One of the world’s biggest shipbuilders will work in partnership with Saudi
Arabia to strengthen the Kingdom’s maritime sector, with a focus on
sustainability and the development of “green shipping.”
Fincantieri,
an Italian company and Europe’s largest shipbuilding group, highlighted its
commitment to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 agenda at a conference under the theme
“Where Vision Meets Maritime Excellence” held in Riyadh on Wednesday.
Saudi
decisionmakers from related sectors in Riyadh joined Italian officials in a
range of sessions at the forum.
During
the event, Fincantieri CEO PierrobertoFolgiero outlined the shipbuilder’s plans
to collaborate with Saudi companies in line with Vision 2030.
“Our
commitment to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is steadfast,” he said.
Fincantieri
stands out in the shipbuilding industry for its innovation, and has a leading
role in the naval, cruise, and oil and gas sectors, Folgiero said.
The CEO
highlighted the importance of developing green ships, designed to minimize the
environmental impact of maritime operations, as part of Saudi Arabia’s
commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
Digitizing
shipyard operations through innovations such as AI also aligns with the goals
of Vision 2030, Folgiero said.
“Today,
the shipping industry and the maritime industry, in general, is coping with
environmental regulation. For us, it is not only a source of compliance, but
also a source of distinctiveness. So, we believe that in the maritime sector,
in the shipbuilding sector, mastering energy transition and new technologies
will be a source of competitiveness and distinctiveness,” he said.
“That is
why we are engaged in all the solutions (regarding) energy transition at sea.
We are a new engine. We are in biofuels. We are in methanol. We are in LNG. We
are in ammonia. We are in hydrogen. We are everywhere there is innovation at
sea.”
Maria
Tripodi, undersecretary of state for foreign affairs at the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, discussed the significance of
keeping operations and businesses sustainable.
Fincantieri’s
ships are built to produce zero carbon emissions, which helps to protect the
environment and marine ecosystem, she said.
Khalil
Ibrahim bin Salamah, deputy minister for industry affairs at the Saudi Ministry
of Industry and Mineral Resources, said: “Localization for us is a key factor.
Key components are crucial, but the whole supply chain is equally important.”

building a creative tribe through music, says chief creative officer
May 23,
2024
Riyadh:
MDLBEAST is building a tribe for the region’s music lovers through its
initiatives such as the Soundstorm festival, the platform’s Chief Creative
Officer Ahmad AlAmmary, also known as DJ Baloo, said. The Saudi veteran DJ and
producer with over 20 years of experience under his belt sat down with Arab
News’ “The Mayman Show” for the launch of its sixth season, talking about
MDLBEAST’s ambitions and his own background.
His role
taps into his ability to find solutions on many levels, he shared.
“It’s
been my role since the onset of this whole project. My background sits between design
thinking, brand development, and brand strategy, and music,” the CCO said,
adding that the role feels like a perfect fit for him.
“Creatively,
you know, every day is its own day. There’s no system for creativity. Its
context is whatever comes your way, whatever problem you’re solving — that’s
where your creativity sits,” he said.
AlAmmary
said it was MDLBEAST’s goal to become involved in all facets of the creative
music industry since its launch in 2019.
“From
the onset, the big splash was Soundstorm, but we had every intention of
launching our record labels, our music conferences, and XP Music Future,” he
said.
The
platform launched around the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which provided an
opportunity for it to focus on entertaining.
“So,
whether or not you (could) go to an event, we were still around there to …
provide the music and to provide the entertainment,” AlAmmary said.
After
pandemic restrictions eased, it allowed him and the team to stay on the path
they paved. MDLBEAST started with flagship live events and some record labels.
“We had
… launched MDLBEAST Records, Qabo, Wattar, Maestro-Lab and, most recently,
Mahoul Records. Each of these labels, for example, serves … a niche. Above and
beyond, our conference is a really unique experience that gathers people from
around the region. We have a day and night experience. During the day, it’s all
about learning and networking, connecting, and collaborating. And at night,
that turns into a regional music showcase,” AlAmmary said.
MDLBEAST
highlights up-and-coming brands that are leading the underground scene of Saudi
music across a variety of genres, the CCO said.
“It’s
just been, you know, a lot of fun … but also a lot of … work. We’re turning
around projects left and right,” he said, adding that the platform is now
“diving into venues” with the launch of Beast House, for example, “Riyadh’s
first music and creative members club,” according to the MDLBEAST website.
“We
developed these smaller pop-up events, with more intimate settings,” AlAmmary
said, explaining that the events take place in spaces that have been abandoned,
giving MDLBEAST space to flex its creative muscles.
“We can
take over and create an experience that is very unique,” he said. “We saw that
with Tahlia in Jeddah and Irqah in Riyadh, the abandoned hospital … We’re
looking at all of these different spaces and projects as … fun experiences that
we can create for our people and platforms for musicians to shine.”
Speaking
about his own background, AlAmmary says he owes his creative attributes to his
very musical family.
“My
eldest brother, Khalid, actually, he was kind of like the cultural center of
our family. Everything from film to music, design, art, you know, we always had
a deep interest in the arts because of his influence. Especially with me and
house music — that’s where I learned it. I learned it from Khalid,” he said.
The DJ
and producer developed an interest in music at an early age.
“By the
time I was 17, I already had a collection of music,” he said. “Years later, you
know, I started to get things like a residency in Bahrain … I would just travel
to Beirut and the gigs would appear.”

Europe
British
Muslim Community Are Organised And Motivated Like Never Before To Impact The
General Election
23rd May
2024
The
British Muslim community is making an unprecedented attempt to organise ahead
of the General Election on July 4 with the intention of punishing the
traditional parties, and especially Labour, through their bloc vote, writes
Roshan Muhammed Salih.
Over the
past few months the momentum within the Muslim community has been growing to
ensure that Muslim voices are heard at the highest levels of politics.
It all
started with George Galloway’s extraordinary March win in the Rochdale
by-election which was thanks to local Muslims self-organising in alliance with
Galloway’s own political know-how.
This was
followed by a number of independent Muslim candidates around the country, such
as Akhmed Yakoob in Birmingham, Muhammad Akunjee and Leanne Mohamad in London,
and many others, announcing that they would stand for parliament in seats
occupied by problematic incumbents or appeasers of genocide.
And then
we have seen the launch of The Muslim Vote organisation which held an event in
Birmingham on Saturday which I attended. Around 200 people from all around the
nation were present, many of whom were influential figures within their own
local communities.
As in
the Rochdale by-election, they were all mainly motivated by the desire to
organise a Muslim bloc vote essentially to punish the Tories and Labour
(especially Labour) for supporting Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
And most
attendees I spoke to seemed to have a steely determination to make sure that
the four million strong Muslim community in the UK makes its voice heard like
never before.
Core
messages
Speakers
at the event included prominent members of the community such as MEND’s Sufyan
Ismail, Islamic Finance Guru’s Ibrahim Khan, Anas Tikriti from the Muslim
Association of Britain and the podcaster Muhammad Jalal.
The core
messages from the conference organisers were that we must be united, organised
and co-ordinated to deliver an effective bloc vote on July 4.
And we
will do this by educating the community, mobilising at a grassroots level and
media level and gathering data to make the best candidate recommendations
possible.
For too
long, speakers argued, we have traded a seat at the table for compromising our
values. But engagement at high levels does not equate to influence, and the
access that we have been granted has not been for our sake or to our advantage.
The
goal, delegates said, is to cause disruption to the two-party monopoly at this
election and to “get noticed” so that power brokers start listening to our
concerns. And essentially we will do this by backing independents and third
parties or perhaps not voting at all.
Candidates
will be judged around their policy pledges first and foremost on core areas
such as Islamophobia, discrimination in education, employment, healthcare,
policing, the justice system, the Prevent strategy and the protection of
legitimate activism.
In terms
of what we can realistically achieve, speakers said that we could swing around
40-60 seats which means that we cannot stop Keir Starmer from becoming Prime
Minister but we can drastically reduce his majority and make him a weak leader.
But it’s
not just about this election, speakers emphasised. It’s about long-term
thinking to increase our influence in this country way into the future. We
should not expect to be kingmakers in this election but that should definitely
be our goal in elections to come.
My
impressions
My
general feeling about the Muslim vote campaign is a positive one. And I say
that as somebody who has reported on the Muslim vote for more than 20 years and
who has always felt that (apart from some isolated victories for George
Galloway) the Muslim vote has been over-egged somewhat.
But this
time I am seeing an unprecedented level of self-organisation on the ground, as
well as direction from The Muslim Vote organisation, which I have not seen
before. And this gives me real hope that we will see some big wins in this
election in several constituencies, and bigger wins to come in future
elections.
That
said, many obstacles lie in our way – some out of our control and some
self-inflicted.
Firstly,
there are still many Labour loyalists in our community who would probably keep
supporting Labour even if a Keir Starmer government invaded Kashmir. Clear and
direct conversations need to be had with these people with the aim of cutting
our community’s umbilical cord with this genocide-supporting party.
Also, I
do fear that The Muslim Vote organisation itself is sending out mixed messages
to the community. I was really dismayed to see them endorsing Labour’s Sadiq
Khan in the recent London Mayoral Elections on the basis of the “lesser of two
evils” argument. I think this is incredibly short-sighted and exactly the kind
of tactics that will keep our community beholden to this party of genocide.
I also
think The Muslim Vote’s hands-off approach to George Galloway’s Rochdale
campaign when the entire local community was backing it was somewhat tone-deaf.
But
these are minor concerns compared to my overall feeling of optimism. Although
that optimism needs to be turned into action at a grassroots level, through
mosques, through media and influencers and events.
The
stakes are high and we cannot fail. If we don’t succeed this time when Gaza is
the ultimate motivation we will be a laughing stock and will never be taken
seriously at high political levels again. So in short, the entire community
needs to mobilise around this campaign. No excuses.

EU Bishops lament conversion of
Instanbul Orthodox church into a mosque
The Commission of the Bishops’
Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) has expressed regret over the recent
implementation of a decision by Turkish authorities to transform the Church of
Saint Savior in Chora into a mosque.
EU Bishops said the move undermines the
historical roots of Christianity in Türkiye.
“This step further dilutes the
historical roots of the Christian presence in the country,” read a statement.
“Any interreligious dialogue initiative promoted by Turkish authorities loses
credibility.”
The Church of Saint Savior in Chora, a
“highly symbolic” Byzantine Christian Orthodox church in Istanbul, was formally
opened for Islamic worship by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the
beginning of May 2024.
The change follows the conversion of the
Hagia Sophia Basilica into a mosque four years prior.
The early 4th-century basilica was
converted into a mosque in the 16th century, during the Ottoman era. It became
a museum in 1945, and is covered with Byzantine Christian mosaics and frescoes
dating back centuries.
Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, Secretary
General of COMECE, lamented the decision, emphasizing that it will make
religious coexistence more difficult.
In July 2020, COMECE also commented on
the conversion of Hagia Sophia, describing it as "a blow to interreligious
dialogue."
The Commission noted Türkiye’s issues
with hate speech and threats against national, ethnic, and religious
minorities.

Russia admits Islamic State behind
Crocus Hall terrorist attack, still tries to blame Ukraine
May 24, 2024
Russia has for the first time said
Islamic State (IS) was behind the deadly terrorist attack on Moscow's Crocus
City Hall, but still claims Ukraine played a role in assisting the attackers,
Russian media reported on May 24.
Several gunmen opened fire at the Crocus
City Hall in Krasnogorsk, a Moscow suburb, on the evening of March 22, killing
at least 145 people and injuring more than 500 others.
In comments reported by state-run RIA
Novosti news agency, Alexander Bortnikov, the head of Russia's Federal Security
Service (FSB), said the preparations, financing, attack, and retreat of those
involved were "coordinated via the internet by members of Khorasan
Province (IS-K)," a branch of IS active in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
"The investigation is ongoing, but
it is already safe to say that Ukrainian military intelligence is directly
involved in this attack," he alleged at a meeting of the Council of Heads
of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS Member States in Bishkek,
Kyrgyzstan.
"Upon completing the attack, the
terrorists received clear instructions to move toward the Ukrainian border,
where from the other side a 'window' had been prepared for them," he added
without providing any evidence of Kyiv's involvement.
Ukraine has categorically denied any
connection to the attack, and the White House has said there was no indication
that Kyiv was behind it.
In the days following the attacks,
Russian authorities detained around a dozen men. More than half of the suspects
who have been detained are from Tajikistan, four of whom are accused of
personally carrying out the attack.
They appeared in court showing clear
signs of abuse at the hands of the Russian authorities.
Despite IS claiming responsibility,
Putin, along with other top Russian officials, sought to pin the blame on
Ukraine without providing any evidence.
Putin on March 25 said "radical
Islamists" were behind the attack but did not mention IS specifically,
claiming they were linked to Ukraine but without providing any evidence.
On March 31, Russia's Foreign Ministry
called for the arrest and extradition of the head of the Security Service of
Ukraine (SBU), Vasyl Maliuk.
More than 50% of Russians believe that
Ukrainian leadership is responsible for the shooting at the Crocus City Hall
concert hall outside Moscow, the Financial Times (FT) reported on March 30,
citing a survey by OpenMinds, an Anglo-Ukrainian online pollster.
Around 27% of respondents blamed the
Islamic State (ISIS), while another 6% pointed to the so-called
"collective West," namely the U.S., the U.K., and NATO.
The U.S. government warned Russia that
the Crocus City Hall concert venue in suburban Moscow was a potential terrorist
target over two weeks before the attack, the Washington Post reported on April
2.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, the
Washington Post said that the U.S. specifically identified Crocus City Hall as
a possible ISIS target in their briefings to Moscow. The disclosure calls into
question the Kremlin's claims that U.S. warnings were too "general"
to prevent an attack.
Putin publicly dismissed Western
warnings of potential terrorist attacks as "outright blackmail" and
attempted "to destabilize our society" days before the mass shooting.

Qatar urges Taliban participation in
third Doha meeting
May 23, 2024
Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifi, the
deputy foreign minister of Qatar, asked the Taliban to send their
representative to the third special envoy meeting in Doha during his trip to
Kabul.
Mr. Khalifi, in a meeting with Abdul
Ghani Baradar, expressed Qatar’s hope for a fruitful outcome from the third
Doha meeting with the presence of a Taliban representative.
The press office of the Taliban’s
Economic Deputy stated Thursday, May 23, that Mullah Baradar had met with
Qatar’s Deputy Foreign Minister at his office.
On the other hand, Deputy Minister
Al-Khalifi pledged to promote Qatari investment in Afghanistan. A delegation is
set to visit Kabul soon. Efforts are underway to establish regular flights
between Qatar and Afghanistan to enhance commercial ties.
According to the Taliban’s office, the
Deputy Foreign Minister of Qatar stated that such meetings would not yield
results without a Taliban representative, clarifying Qatar’s position to the
United Nations.
The Economic Deputy of the Taliban’s

Italian organization builds homes for
Bamyan cave dwellers
May 23, 2024
The Taliban governor’s office in Bamyan
province announced an Italian organization, along with the University of
Florence, will build 100 houses for cave dwellers.
Annie Bali, head of the Italian
organization Vento, declared during a meeting with Bamyan Governor Abdullah
Sarhadi on May 22 that construction of the houses would commence shortly.
Mr. Bali, along with Professor Dali,
president of the University of Florence, mentioned that the construction cost
for these houses would be $300,000. He also noted that the houses would be
built in a modern style.
According to the report the impoverished
and needy families in Bamyan, numbering in the tens, are living in caves due to
lack of proper housing; caves that are now considered historical structures.
This comes amidst previous reports of
forced displacement of cave dwellers by the Taliban.
UNHCR announced plans to construct a
housing complex for 144 cave-dwelling families in Bamyan City. The foundation
was laid on May 2, 2023, with the presence of Gillian Triggs, UNHCR’s Deputy
High Commissioner.
Mohammad Ashraf Niazi, the UNHCR
provincial director in Bamyan, stated that the township would cover 60 acres
and offer all urban amenities.
The Ministry of Urban Development and
Housing, under the previous government, announced in 2017 that Bamyan
Province’s master plan was being developed with the assistance of Italian
experts from Florence University.
During their previous rule, the Taliban
demolished the colossal clay statues and the Bamyan Buddha, which had stood for
over a thousand years above the valley. The niches inside these statues, cave
paintings, and other remnants still hold their global significance.

May 23, 2024
The Council on American-Islamic
Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy
organization, is urging all American Muslims to participate in CAIR’s 2024
General Election Survey of American Muslim Voters.
We also encourage leaders, activists,
mosques, Islamic centers, and businesses within the Muslim community to share
our nationwide survey by posting QR codes to the survey in popular community
spaces.
The 26-multiple-choice question survey
aims to better understand and promote the American Muslim community’s readiness
for the 2024 general election, interests in presidential and congressional
races, and Muslim political preferences, views, and attitudes on widely
discussed policy issues.
CLICK HERE: TAKE CAIR’S 2024 ELECTION
SURVEY OF MUSLIM VOTERS
Community members also have the option
of printing out CAIR’s election survey flyer, which includes a QR code to the
poll. You can find the links to the QR code below.
All responses will be anonymous. CAIR is
encouraging American Muslims to fill out the survey and share it with their
peers, Muslim organizations, Muslim student groups, and other Islamic
institutions.
“CAIR invites you and your family to
participate in our annual national election survey of American Muslim voters.
With over 2 million registered voters, Muslims are already making their mark in
state and national primary elections. Now, it’s time for our community’s voice
to be heard by candidates, elected officials, and the nation at large. The
results of this survey will highlight the issues that matter most to us,
ensuring that those running for office are informed and responsive to our
concerns,” said Robert S. McCaw, CAIR Director of Government Affairs.
McCaw notes earlier this week CAIR
released its “2024 General Election Congressional Scorecard” and “2024 Sample
Questions for Candidates and Government Officials” to educate American Muslim
voters and allies about how their members of Congress voted on key legislation
and provide sample questions to ask candidates running for office to better to
understand their stance on issues important to our community.
In February, CAIR announced that it
counted over 2.5 million registered Muslim American voters nationwide. CAIR
previously estimated in 2022, there were some 1.2 million or more Muslim
voters.
*Note About the CAIR’s Survey of Muslim
Voters, Congressional Scorecard, and Other Election Empowerment Activities:
As a nonpartisan organization, CAIR can
encourage American Muslims to participate in national and state elections,
conduct voter registration drives, provide training programs, issue briefings,
organize candidate forums, volunteer in campaigns, and lead get-out-the-vote
drives. CAIR makes no claims as to the favorability of one candidate being
elected over another. Therefore, CAIR encourages American Muslims to further
research the actions of their local representatives before supporting any
candidate. Nonprofits cannot engage in political activities that support one
candidate or party over another, but we are committed to making our community’s
voice and vote heard.

Any Cop, Politician Who Wants To Repent
And Become Muslim Is Welcome
May 23, 2024
In his May 3, 2024 Friday sermon at the
Islamic Center of Claremont, California, which was streamed live on the
Mosque's YouTube channel, Imam Mudassir Mayet asked Allah to "annihilate
the Zionist oppressors and their supporters from among the police and the
leaders." He said that the LAPD are just as terrorist as the Zionist
state, because they receive combat training in Israel. Mayet continued to say
that any of the oppressors, including politicians and members of the police
force, are welcome to repent, turn to Allah, and become Muslims, however, most
of them do not choose to do so, and Allah is allowing them to dig their own
hole.
"LAPD Are Just As Terrorist As The
Zionist State... They Go To Israel To Get Trained In Combat"
Mudassir Mayet: "LAPD are just as
terrorist as the Zionist state, because they are their teachers. They learn...
They go... It is a known fact that people in the LAPD go to Israel and get
trained in combat."
"Any Of You Cops That Are Going To
Leave This Lifestyle And Become A Muslim... Welcome, And Allah Will Forgive
You"
"Any of you people that are
oppressors, any of you politicians that have given billions, if you today are
going to return [to Allah] and turn back... Any of you cops that are going to
leave this lifestyle and become a Muslim, anyone of you that are willing to
return back today, repent, and come back to Allah – welcome and Allah will
forgive you. But the majority of them do not take lessons from the people of
the past. '[Allah] is only giving them respite until the day when eyes will
stare in horror.' Allah is giving them... Allah is letting them dig their own
hole."
"Oh Allah, Annihilate The
Zionists... And Their Supporters From Among The Police And Leaders... Make
Their Destruction And Removal From This Earth A Sign For All Of Humanity"
"We ask Allah to deal with them in
this world and in the next. Oh Allah, annihilate the Zionists. Oh Allah,
annihilate the Zionist oppressors, and their supporters from among the police
and the leaders, oh Allah, annihilate them."
"Oh Allah, deal with the Zionists.
Oh Allah, destroy them. Oh Allah, annihilate them. Oh Allah, remove them from
this Earth. Make their destruction and removal from this Earth a sign for all
of humanity – not just them, but those that support them from the people with
money, the politicians, and the police officers thar decide to support them. Oh
Allah, deal with them."

Muslim Group Reacts After DMV Worker
Allegedly Refuses to Validate Palestinian License
BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland office of the
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has formally requested that the
Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) investigate an incident at its
Beltsville branch where an employee reportedly refused to authenticate a valid
foreign driver’s license issued by the Palestinian Authority.
This refusal prevented the customer from
acquiring a Maryland driver’s
license.
On March 22, 2024, the customer visited
the Beltsville MVA intending to transfer her Palestinian driver’s license by
taking the required knowledge and driving tests. However, an MVA representative
identified as Mr. Caesar examined her documents and stated that her license
“could not be verified,” despite the MVA’s own website listing the occupied
Palestinian territories as a valid issuing authority.
CAIR’s letter to the MVA highlighted the

Türkiye Working for Joint Strategy by
Muslim World Over Gaza, Islamophobia: Envoy
24.05.2024
Türkiye is working to bring together the
Muslim world on "same point" on the simmering issues of Palestine,
Jammu and Kashmir, Islamophobia, and Cyprus, the Turkish ambassador to Pakistan
said on Thursday.
Speaking at the Karachi Press Club,
which hosted him as part of its Meet the Press series, Mehmet Pacaci said
Türkiye and Pakistan already share a common stance on respective issues on all
international forums, including the UN and Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
"It's Türkiye's policy to bring
together the Muslim ummah for a common stand on these issues," Pacaci said
in response to a question regarding different blocs within the Muslim world.
Condemning the Israeli offensive on Gaza
that has killed over 35,000 people, mostly children and women since last
October, he said Ankara has already provided evidence of Israeli
"genocide" in the besieged enclave.
Pacaci said Türkiye fully supports
Pakistan's territorial integrity, and wants Pakistan and India to resolve the
lingering Kashmir dispute through talks, and in accordance with the relevant UN
Security Council resolutions.
"Türkiye and Pakistan support each
other on all key issues on international and regional forums. The two
countries, which share deep-rooted bilateral relations have always stood
alongside each other in trying times," he said.
"Be it the 2022 floods in Pakistan
or the Feb. 6, 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye, the two countries stood together
and helped each other," the diplomat said.
He also appreciated Islamabad for taking
action against Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO)-linked schools and
individuals operating in Pakistan after the 2016 failed coup.
Pacaci said the current trade volume
between the two countries is incommensurate with the close historical and
cultural relations the two allies enjoy. The figure stands at around $1
billion.
The two governments, he added, have
decided to increase the incumbent trade volume up to $5 billion in next two to
three years. "We are working hard to achieve this target. Trade between
the two countries through land route also needs to be improved," Pacaci
said.

Iraqi Islamic Resistance targets Haifa
with drones
May 24, 2024
TEHRAN, May 24 (MNA) – The Islamic
Resistance group in Iraq said Friday that it had targeted the occupied port
city of Haifa in Palestine with drone in support of Palestinians amid the
Israeli regime aggression on Gaza Strip.
The attack on Friday came after other
attacks that the Iraqi Resistance group on Eilat in the south of the
Palestinian occupied territories with two drones. At the same time, Israeli
sources also reported that an explosion was heard in Eilat.
Earlier, the Iraqi group had released
footage of the launching of two kamikaze drones toward Umm al-Rashrash.
The group released its drone launch on
Friday towards Haifa:
The Islamic Resistance had before that
announced that its fighters targeted a vital site in Eilat in southern
Isralei-occupied Palestinian territories early on Thursday morning.
Islamic Resistance fighters launched a
number of suicide drones toward the site located in the usurped Palestinian
port town of Umm al-Rashrash. The statement reaffirmed the Iraqi Resistance's
support for the Palestinian people and their Resistance, promising further
operations against enemy sites.
Earlier on Wednesday night, the
Resistance's Military Media Unit had released footage that detailed the
launching of two suicide drones toward Umm al-Rashrash [Eilat] on May 20, 2024.
According to Lebanese Al Mayadeen TV
English webiste, the drones resemble the Iranian Shahed-131 drone, which could
be easily distinguished from the more popular Shahed-136 drone by observing the
vertical stabilizers at the ends of the wings. On the Shahed-131 drone, the
stabilizers only extend upwards, while those on the Shahed-136 extend upwards
and downwards.
The 131 version is also smaller in size,
however, it maintains similar qualities to the larger 136 version, such as a
low radar cross-section and a lethal warhead.

No sign of attack on Raisi’s helicopter:
Iran’s military
May 24, 2024
TEHRAN, Iran: The helicopter carrying
Iran’s late President Ebrahim Raisi caught fire soon after it crashed into a
mountain and there was no sign it was attacked, state media reported, citing
the military’s crash investigators.
The statement from the general staff of
the armed forces in charge of investigating the crash was read on state
television late Thursday. The first statement on the crash did not lay blame
but said more details would come after further investigation.
The crash Sunday killed Raisi, the
country’s foreign minister and six other people.
The general staff’s statement said the
communications between the control tower and the crew of the helicopter before
the crash contained nothing suspicious. It said the last communication of the
crashed helicopter was between it and two helicopters accompanying it some 90
seconds before the crash.
There was no sign of anything shot at
the helicopter and its flight path did not change, the statement said.
The aging Bell helicopter went down in a
foggy, remote mountainous region of Iran’s northwest on Sunday. The crash site
was discovered Monday morning with all eight on board dead.
Raisi was buried in a tomb at the Imam
Reza Shrine in Mashhad on Thursday.

Security Council to vote on resolution
decrying attacks on UN and aid workers, demanding protection
May 24, 2024
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations
Security Council is scheduled to vote Friday on a resolution that strongly
condemns attacks on humanitarian workers and UN personnel, and demands that all
combatants protect them in accordance with international law.
The Swiss-sponsored resolution expresses
grave concern at the growing number of attacks and threats against UN and
humanitarian personnel along with the continuing disregard and violations of
international humanitarian law by combatants.
“The goal of the resolution is as simple
as it is important,” Switzerland’s UN Ambassador Pascale Baeriswyl told The
Associated Press on Thursday. “It’s about protecting the men and women who work
and risk their lives — every day — to help people affected by armed conflict.”
The draft resolution does not single out
any conflict, but it is being voted on as battles rage in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan,
Myanmar and many other hotspots around the world.
It is the seven-month war in Gaza,
however, that has seen the greatest number of attacks on UN and humanitarian
personnel. Over 190 UN staff have been killed, a death toll unprecedented in
the United Nations’ nearly 80-year history, according to UN Secretary-General
Antonio Guterres.
The war has also seen the killing of
other humanitarian personnel, including seven World Central Kitchen workers who
died in an Israeli airstrike last month.
Baeriswyl said in a statement to AP that
the resolution is being put to a vote at a very timely moment. The Geneva
Conventions, which Baeriswyl described as the cornerstone of international
humanitarian law and a reflection of our common humanity, commemorates its 75th
anniversary in August.
The draft resolution calls on all
countries to respect and protect humanitarian and UN personnel as required by
international law. And it calls on all nations and parties to armed conflict to
respect international humanitarian law and their obligations under the Geneva
Conventions. It “strongly condemns attacks and all forms of violence, including
sexual and gender-based violence, threats and intimidation against humanitarian
personnel and United Nations and associated personnel.”
The draft urges combatants “to respect
the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution in the conduct of
hostilities and refrain from attacking, destroying, removing or rendering
useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population.”
The proposed resolution also urges
warring parties to facilitate “full, safe, rapid and unhindered humanitarian
access to all civilians in need, and to promote the safety, security and
freedom of movement of humanitarian personnel and United Nations and associated
personnel.”
On another issue, the draft condemns
“disinformation, information manipulation and incitement to violence” against
humanitarian and UN staff and it encourages all countries and the United
Nations to take action to address these threats.
If approved, the resolution would
express the council’s determination to take steps to provide for the safety and
security of humanitarian and UN staff. It would ask the UN Secretary-General to
make recommendations within six months on measures to prevent attacks, ensure
accountability and enhance protection of humanitarian and UN staff.

Divisions, elections and Assad lay bare
Europe’s Syrian quagmire
May 23, 2024
PARIS: The European Union will convene
donors next week to keep Syria on the global agenda, but as the economic and
social burden of refugees on neighboring countries mounts the bloc is divided
and unable to find solutions to tackle the issue, diplomats say.
Syria has become a forgotten crisis that
nobody wants to stir amid the war raging between Israel and Islamist
Palestinian militants Hamas and tensions growing between Iran and Western
powers over its regional activities.
More than 5 million refugees mostly in
Lebanon and Turkiye and millions more displaced internally have little prospect
of returning home with political stability no closer than since the uprising
against President Bashar Assad’s rule began in 2011.
Funding to support them is dropping with
the likes of the World Food Programme reducing its aid. Difficulties to host
refugees are surfacing, notably in Lebanon, where the economic situation is
perilous and a call to send Syrians home is one of the rare issues that unites
all communities.
“We have no levers because we never
resumed relations with the Assad regime and there are no indications anybody
really will,” said a former European envoy to Syria.
“Even if we did, why would Syria offer
carrots to countries that have been hostile to him and especially taking back
people who opposed him anyway.”
Major European and Arab ministers along
with key international organizations meet for the 8th Syria conference next
Monday, but beyond vague promises and financial pledges, there are few signs
that Europe can take the lead.
The talks come just ahead of the
European elections on June 6-9 in which migration is a divisive issue among the
bloc’s 27-member states. With far-right and populist parties already expected
to do well, there is little appetite to step up refugee support.
The conference itself has changed from
eight years ago. The level of participation has been downgraded. The likes of
Russia, the key actor backing Assad, is no longer invited after its invasion of
Ukraine. The global geopolitical situation and drop in the conflict’s intensity
keeps it off radars.
There are divisions within the EU on the
subject. Some countries such as Italy and Cyprus are more open to having a form
of dialogue with Assad to at least discuss possible ways to step up voluntary
returns in conjunction with and under the auspices of the UN.
However, others, like France which
acknowledges the pressure the refugees are weighing on Lebanon and fears
broader conflict between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel, remain steadfast
that there can be no discussion with the Assad regime until key conditions are
met.
But the reality on the ground is forcing
a discussion on the issue.
Demonstrating the tensions between the
EU and the countries hosting refugees, Lebanese MPs threatened to reject the
bloc’s 1 billion euro package announced earlier this month, slamming it as a
“bribe” to keep refugees in limbo in Lebanon instead of resettling them
permanently in Europe or sending them back home to Syria.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati,
who unlike in previous years is not due to attend the Brussels conference, has
said that Beirut would start dealing with the issue itself without proper
international assistance.
The result has been an upswing in
migrant boats from Lebanon to Europe, with nearby Cyprus and increasingly
Italy, too, as the main destinations, prompting some countries to ring alarm
bells fearing a flood of new refugees into the bloc.
“Let me be clear, the current situation
is not sustainable for Lebanon, it’s not sustainable for Cyprus and it’s not
sustainable for the European Union. It hasn’t been sustainable for years,”
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said this month during a visit to
Lebanon.
Highlighting the divisions in Europe,
eight countries — Austria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Italy,
Malta and Poland — last week issued a joint statement after talks in Cyprus,
breaking ranks with the bloc’s previous positions.
They argued that the dynamics in Syria
had changed and that while political stability did not exist yet, things had
evolved sufficiently to “re-evaluate the situation” to find “more effective
ways of handling the issue.”
“I don’t think there will be a big
movement in terms of EU attitude, but perhaps some baby steps to engage and see
if more can be done in various areas,” said a diplomat from one of the
countries that attended the talks in Cyprus.
Another was more blunt.
“Come Tuesday Syria will be swept under
the carpet and forgotten. The Lebanese will be left to deal with the crisis
alone,” said a French diplomat.

Three US troops have non-combat injuries
during Gaza pier operation
May 24, 2024
WASHINGTON: Three US troops suffered
non-combat injuries in the effort to make a temporary pier off the coast of
Gaza into a conduit for humanitarian aid, with one in critical condition at an
Israeli hospital, US officials said on Thursday.
The injuries were the first for US
forces during the latest operation to bring humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
The pier was announced by US President
Joe Biden in March and involved the military assembling the floating structure
off the coast. Estimated to cost $320 million for the first 90 days and involve
about 1,000 US service members, it went into operation last week.
US Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, the deputy
commander of US Central Command, told reporters that two of the troops had a
sprained ankle and a minor back injury.
“Two were very minor, routine injuries.
Those individuals returned to duty,” Cooper said.
A third service member, injured on a
ship at sea, was medically evacuated to a hospital in Israel, he said. A US
defense official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the individual
was in critical condition.
US lawmakers have voiced concern about
the risks to positioning US troops off the coast of Gaza. Biden has said they
will not step foot in the war-torn city itself.
The Pentagon has said it will prioritize
the safety of US military personnel.
“We’re clear eyed and we continue to
look at force protection all day, every day and as it stands now we assess the
operations can continue,” Cooper said.
Social media images showed a US air
defense system, known as the Counter Rockets, Artillery and Mortars (CRAM),
firing into the sky while on the pier. US officials said troops were testing
the system.
Daniel Dieckhaus of the US Agency for
International Development said that since the pier opened last week, about 506
metric tons of aid had been handed off to humanitarian groups inside Gaza.
About a third of that has not yet been distributed but would be soon, he said.

Pakistan
Verdict reserved on Imran, Bushra's
acquittal pleas in un-Islamic nikah case
May 23, 2024
A verdict was reserved on Thursday on
the petitions challenging the un-Islamic nikah case filed by Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
Judge Shahrukh Arjumand of the district
and sessions court in Islamabad reserved the court's decision before leaving
the courtroom for his chamber.
The court's verdict will be pronounced
by the judge on May 29.
The verdict was reserved after the court
heard arguments of lawyers from both sides.
Salman Akram Raja is Khan’s lawyer in
the case, while Bushra Bibi's counsel Usman Gul and prosecutor Adnan Ali were
present in court when the verdict was reserved.
The assistant counsel for the
complainant said Rizwan Abbasi, the lawyer of Khawar Maneka — Bushra Bibi’s
former husband — has to give arguments, as the record is not with him.
Addressing Bushra Bibi's lawyer, the
sessions judge told him to give the final arguments.
The judge also asked for Abbasi to
present his arguments in the court today via video link.
Last month, a local court in Islamabad
had rejected Maneka's no-confidence motion in the appeals against the
conviction in the iddat case. As per the motion, Maneka expressed no confidence
in the judge and requested that the case be transferred to another court.
Judge Arjumand asked Maneka what led him
to believe that he was sympathising with the other party. Responding to that
Bushra’s ex-husband said that his entire family said the judge will acquit the
accused.
To this, Khan’s lawyer had said that
seeking transfer of case from one court to another amounted to contempt of
court and that Justice Babar Sattar had imposed fine on the no-confidence
motion.
Following the argument, both Maneka and
Raja had a heated exchange with Judge Arjumand later rejecting Maneka’s
no-trust plea.

Two more ‘RAW-trained’ suspects held in
Karachi
May 24, 2024
KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to

grenades, from their possession.

The official said that the action was

Khawar Husain and Mohammed Jaber.
The SSP described Ayub as the
‘mastermind agent’ of RAW.

He came to Karachi on a visit visa from
Mumbai and got a Pakistani passport and CNIC illegally.
“As per information, RAW has been
operating an organised network of terrorism in different countries,” according

Portion of PTI’s central office in
Islamabad demolished
May 24, 2024
ISLAMABAD: Authorities in the federal
capital demolished a portion of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Central
Secretariat in Islamabad late Thursday, inviting strong criticism from the
former ruling party.
The Capital Development Authority’s
(CDA) anti-encroachment team launched the action, citing a “violation of
building rules”. The operation began at around 11:30pm and ended after an hour.
In a statement, the CDA said that it's
anti-encroachment team launched an operation late Thursday to eliminate illegal
construction and encroachment.
It further said that encroachment by a
"political party" was being eliminated and added that the plot was
allotted in the name of a person named Sartaj Ali.
The CDA said that an additional floor
was also constructed on the plot in violation of the building rules. The body
added that it had issued notices to the party, but to no avail.
As the operation was underway, the PTI
called upon its workers to immediately arrive at the secretariat. The party
said that the government has started demolishing the office in an "illegal
and unjust manner".
While the body said that it had sent
multiple notices to the formerly ruling party, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar
Khan shot down the claims and said that they did not receive any orders from
the CDA.
He also added that CDA officials were
asked to provide documents regarding the operation, however, they failed to
produce them. "If there had been any encroachments and they had informed
us about them earlier, we would have removed them ourselves," he insisted.
Talking to the media outside the office,
PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub strongly condemned the late-night action,
saying that the party would raise the issue of the CDA in the assembly.
"The PTI condemns the CDA action in
the strongest terms," he said, as he drew parallels to the operation to
the onslaught of Israel on Gaza, where thousands have lost their lives and
hunger is being used as a weapon.
Ayub said the city administration
launched the operation at night without prior notice. He also added that police
authorities arrested party leader Amir Mughal.
Following the completion of the
operation, the CDA officials sealed the PTI's central office and also pasted
the order on it.
During this process, PTI activists
resisted the government's attempts to demolish the office, leading to the
arrest of some party workers by the capital city authorities.

KUANTAN, May 24 ― The Department of
Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) needs to play a more proactive role in
instilling Qur'anic values in the Muslim community, says Deputy Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said there was no better way to
develop Malaysia Madani than by familiarising oneself with the Qur’an, and
understanding the lessons and values it contains for use in everyday life.
He mentioned that the Qur'an contained
numerous values that Muslims could learn and internalise through various
exemplary stories, such as the story of Prophet Yusuf, which explains
sustainable policies, the story of ‘AshabulKahfi’, which highlights the value
of obedience, and the story of Prophet Daud, which demonstrates the parameters
of justice.
“I often emphasise the importance of
strengthening values, regardless of position, rank, socioeconomic background
and so on. Everyone should have high self-esteem. The greatest values are those
taught in the Qur’an.
“Events like this (Al-Qur’an Recitation
and Memorisation Competition) are not just about reciting and memorising the
Qur'an. More than that, the government aims to enhance the appreciation and
cultivate the teachings of the Qur'an at the individual, family, community, and
organisational levels,” he said.
He said this while inaugurating this
year’s national-level Al-Qur’an Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQK) at
the Darul Makmur Auditorium, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Broadcasting Complex here
last night.
Also present were Minister in the Prime
Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
Fadillah said the Qur’an was also a
source of reference for the foundation of unity and cohesion among the ummah
through its ‘surah’ or chapters, such as ‘Surah Al-Hujurat’ which reminds
Muslims to unite and avoid actions that could divide the community.
“When we differ in opinions, remember
that Allah reminds us to return to Him and His Messenger as stated in Surah
An-Nisa, verse 59.
“Why should we refer back to the Qur'an
and Hadith? So that we all unite by referring to the same source when we have
different stands. This is the recipe for unity that Allah has given us in His
holy book,” Fadillah said, adding that the country should also learn about
unity from the history of other nations, such as India.
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of
Energy Transition and Water Transformation, emphasised that unity was a
strength, and through unity, strong and stable social mobilisation could be
ensured, providing positive impacts on the country's progress in terms of the
economy and sustainable development.
“We see for ourselves the conflict in
Palestine that has been going on for the past four decades. Generations have
passed, but there seems to be no path to peace throughout those years. They
have become victims of inherited discrimination, leading to severe oppression.
“In this regard, I emphasise that the
Madani government opposes any form of oppression, genocide, and ethnic
cleansing. Every human being deserves to live on this earth and receive equal
rights and welfare. The value of human dignity must never be disregarded,” he
said.
MTHQK 2024, organised by Jakim in
collaboration with the Pahang state government, takes place over six days
beginning today, featuring 110 participants from all over the country.
This is the third time Pahang is hosting
the event after the ones in 2011 and 2014. ― Bernama

Many countries keen to collaborate with
Malaysia in higher education - Zambry
23-05- 2024
PUTRAJAYA: Many countries have expressed
interest in forging cooperation with Malaysia in the field of higher education,
according to Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
He said the matter was conveyed to him
during bilateral meetings with representatives from those countries, including
Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Japan, on the sidelines of the Education World Forum
(EWF) in London recently.
“In my meeting with the Minister of
Education and Science of Tajikistan, Nuriddin Said, he also expressed his
desire to work with Malaysia to improve their education system.
“At the same time, we also agreed to
continue our student exchange programme. Currently, there are more than 200
Tajikistani students in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.
Zambry said his meeting with the
Minister of Education of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, also touched on possible
cooperation that can be formed between the two countries.
He said Azerbaijan really hoped to make
Malaysia an education hub where they could send more students to pursue
tertiary education.
“Azerbaijan is also in the effort to
redevelop their higher education centre in Karabakh and they have expressed the
hope that Malaysia could help and collaborate in this area,” he said.
Zambry also said that Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent visit to the three Central Asian countries
has also opened up the gate for nearby countries to cooperate with Malaysia in
various sectors based on the confidence and quality showcased by the Malaysian
Government delegation.
“In my meeting with the Deputy Minister
of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, Akio Fujiwara,
he also expressed the country’s willingness to share their experiences on the
Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
“We also discussed efforts to reassess
and redignify Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
curriculum through collaboration between Malaysian and Japanese institutions,”
he said.
Meanwhile, Zambry said he also held a
meeting with Microsoft representatives, which focused on the field of
artificial intelligence (AI) as the launch of Malaysia’s AI Nexus has prompted
Microsoft to continue to actively collaborate with Malaysia through the
Ministry of Higher Education.
Furthermore, he said that educational
cooperation between the United Kingdom and Malaysia continues to be
strengthened through the UK-Malaysia University Consortium (UK-MUC) with
various high-level programmes being planned.
“The EWF indeed brings together many
ministers of education and higher education that enable partnership between
countries to make education the main vehicle for the development of society and
the country.
“Malaysia’s internationalisation of
higher education is getting more and more attention from other countries and
will continue to be strengthened,” he said.

South Sudan introduces Arabic language
and Islamic studies in schools
South Sudan on Thursday introduced
Arabic language and Islamic Religious Education into the country’s educational
system.
Speaking during the launch of new
textbooks in Juba, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, the vice president in charge of the
government’s service cluster, described the Introduction of the new subjects in
the national curriculum as a remarkable step toward a more inclusive education
system.
“The Introduction of Arabic language and
Islamic Religious Education into our education curriculum is a remarkable step
toward a more comprehensive and inclusive education system,” he said. “These
core subjects which were previously missing in our new national curriculum will
now be taught and play a vital role in enriching the academic experience of our
learners.”

two subjects into the national curriculum will not only address historical gaps
but also embrace the cultural diversity and heritage enshrined in the
constitution.
For her part, Awut Deng Acuil, the
Minister of General Education and Instruction, said her ministry is working to
have an inclusive curriculum that fosters the transformation of society to
become more cohesive and united.
“As you can see, the textbooks for
Arabic language and Islamic Religious Education were produced through a
national initiative to complete the national curriculum. South Sudan is a
diverse society and both Islam and Arabic language are a reality in our society,”
she stated. “The SPLM recognized that and established the Islamic Council
during the liberation struggle to look after the needs of the Muslims in the
liberated areas.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ibrahim, the Acting
Country Director of Save the Children South Sudan, said the new subjects will
play a vital role in offering the learners the best possible education
opportunities.
“If you want to change the future of
South Sudan in general, we can change it through education. I am really happy
that the Government of South Sudan put the right person to lead the vision and
agenda,” Ibrahim said. “South Sudan also has a very collaborative civil society
that not only speaks but also walks their talk.”

Churches, mosques give front-row seat,
altars to fraudsters, corrupt leaders: EFCC
MAY 24, 2024
Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission, has called on religious leaders in Nigeria to
play a more active role in fighting corruption and cybercrime.
Mr Olukoyede made the call on Thursday
in Abuja at the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) meeting titled ‘The
Role of Religious Leaders in Combating Corruption and Cybercrime’.
Mr Olukoyode noted the crucial role
religious leaders play in shaping the moral fabric of society and urged them to
use their influence to promote integrity and transparency.
“As leaders, you are supposed to be the
embodiment of the virtues of honesty, integrity, compassion, and goodness. Some
preach against corruption but have no scruples, yielding the front pew at
worship centres to people of means whose sources of wealth are questionable.
Religious titles are also sometimes given to persons of questionable
pedigrees,’’ he said.
He also charged religious leaders not to
ignore decadent behaviours and ethical rot among the flocks in a bid to
guarantee the steady flow of milk from congregants.
The EFCC boss said, “The relevance of
the clergy as a moral authority is being questioned by a number of practices.
Among these is the emphasis on prosperity rather than righteousness. This has
created the impression that instant wealth, irrespective of how it was gotten,
is approved by God.
“We have seen situations where a
fraudster visits worship centres to testify to the blessings of God after a
breakthrough in fraud. We have seen politically exposed persons climb altars to
testify about how God has used ‘His servant’ to uplift them only to be arrested
for alleged fraud a few weeks later.’’
NIREC is a voluntary association with 50
members (25 Christians and 25 Muslims), formed by representatives of Nigeria’s
two principal religions, Christianity and Islam.

Tinubu orders review of tertiary
institutions’ governing board amid South-West Muslims’ complaint
MAY 23, 2024
PRESIDENT TINUBU DIRECTS COMPREHENSIVE
REVIEW OF GOVERNING BOARDS OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
President Bola Tinubu has directed a
total and comprehensive review of the recently announced governing boards of
tertiary institutions in Nigeria before
the inauguration and retreat being planned for the nominees.
The Federal Ministry of Education
recently released names of nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors, and members
of the boards and councils of universities, Polytechnics, and colleges of
education. It also announced that the inauguration and retreat for the nominees
will take place on 31 May.
However, public reactions showed that
the nominations did not reflect the federal character of the country as some
states got just one nomination, while some others got many.
The President, in directing a complete
review of the list of the members of the governing councils, acknowledges the
feedback across the country.
President Tinubu is committed to
ensuring strict compliance with the principle of federal character as
entrenched in the constitution.
The review will also take into
consideration national spread and ensure every part of the country is
adequately represented.

Ogbomoso central mosque property of
Soun, chiefs warn cleric
23rd May 2024
Five Compound Heads popularly known as
Mogajis of Soun of Ogbomoso ruling houses, on Thursday, urged the Chief Imam of
Ogbomosoland, TeliatAyilara to stop alleged incessant attacks on the Soun of
Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
The Mogajis, who addressed journalists
in Ogbomoso, further urged him to desist from such act, saying by abusing the
monarch he was desecrating the exalted throne of Soun and by extension people
of Ogbomoso.
The Mogajis are Lamidi Itabiyi,
MogajiAburumaku ruling house; Sikiru Oyelami, MogajiGbagun ruling house;
Olawole Olaoye, MogajiLaoye ruling house; Oyebamiji Oyedeji, representative of
Bolanta ruling house and IlufoyeOlayode, MogajiOdunaro ruling house.
The PUNCH reports that Ayilara family
had alleged that the Chief Imam is not a bonafide member of the family.
This, however, prompted the monarch to
set up panels to look into the allegation, and the recommendation was that he
should step aside while he sorted out the matter with the family.
The Mogajis said, “Ayilara’s insults
against the Kabiyesi are infuriating. We condemn and denounce his impudence and
actions. He is warned to stop talking about the Soun; he should sort out his
problem with his family as it has nothing to do with our revered Kabiyesi.
“He should never mention Soun’s name in
the imbroglio again because his utterances are distracting and creating
disaffection. Moreover, all the recent appointments he made are null and void,
because he never obtained the approval of the Soun by custom and tradition.”
He added, “For him to have taken Soun to
Court is sacrilegious! How can you sue someone who installed you? Soun stool
has nothing to do with whether you are a Christian or Muslim; it is an
institution that transcends such absurdity.
“We reaffirm the Ogbomoso Central Mosque
is the property of Soun. It belongs to the King. We reiterate the Soun ruling
houses express disapproval of the impudent acts of the Chief Imam, which is a
defilement of the sanctity of the throne of our forefathers.
“However, we are constricted by the
court cases and we await their verdicts. In the interim, we refuse to be
distracted or be drawn into the shenanigans of the Imam and his cohorts, we
restate we will not take much from him again.”
