Human Values and Good Manners Mentioned in the Quran – Part 5

In the previous parts, we studied 60 human values and good manners mentioned in the Quran. The fifth part is continuation of those beautiful values and manners. It is essential for the believers to memorize these values and good manners and practice them in their spiritual walk of life and become good human beings or practicing Muslims.
61. Invitation to God should be with wisdom and good instruction
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.” (16:125)
The term good instruction can also mean instruction given in the Quran or the one which is done sincerely for the benefit of human beings in a non-compulsive and gentle way that softens hearts.
62. Be just
“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do. (5:8)
This ayat teaches Muslims that to stand for justice against friends and enemies is to stand for God. Justice for enemies here means that one should not treat the enemies in a manner that exceeds the limits mentioned in the Divine Book of Allah.
63. No one will bear others’ sins
“Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.” (17:15)
This verse means that no person will be accountable for the misdeeds of others. Every person is responsible for his deeds or misdeeds. Some lead others astray; yet those who are thus misguided will bear the consequences of their sins by themselves. There are also verses which indicate that those who mislead people will bear an additional burden. (see 7:38)
64. Strive against sinful and unlawful acts
“Why do the rabbis and religious scholars not forbid them from saying what is sinful and devouring what is unlawful? How wretched is what they have been practicing.” (5:63)
It is the responsibility of religious scholars to forbid the people from committing sinful acts. This verse, according to Hazrat Ibn Abbas, is among the most frightening Quranic verses perhaps due to the warning given to those who have religious knowledge but who fail to practice moral responsibilities incumbent upon such knowledgeable people.
65. Dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine are prohibited
This is clearly mentioned in this full Quranic verse, “Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death], and those which are sacrificed on stone altars, and [prohibited is] that you seek decision through divining arrows. That is grave disobedience. This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful” (5:3)
66. Avoid intoxicants and alcohol
“O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.” (5:90)
67. Do not gamble
“O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.” (5:90)
68. Do not insult others’ deities
“And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.” (6:108)
69. Don’t reduce weight or measure to cheat people
“And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best until he reaches maturity. And give full measure and weight in justice. We do not charge any soul except [with that within] its capacity. And when you testify, be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative. And the covenant of Allah fulfil. This has He instructed you that you may remember.” (6:152)
70. Eat and Drink, but do not be Excessive
“O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.” (7:31)
71. Wear good cloths during prayer times
“O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.” (7:31)
72. protect and help those who seek protection
“And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah. Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.” (9:6)
73. Keep Purity
“Do not stand [for prayer] within it - ever. A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in. Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves.” (9:108)
74. Never give up hope of Allah’s Mercy
“O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people." (12:87)
75. Allah will forgive those repent after committing sins out of ignorance
“Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.” (16:119)
May God Almighty grant His blessings to remember and practice these human values and good manners!
