Woman, Identified as Jameela Khatun, Alias Puja Sharma, Caught for Trapping Muslim Men In ‘Love Jihad’
Jul 25, 2023
BIJNOR: UP police have arrested an Assamese woman, identified as Jameela Khatun, 30, alias Puja Sharma, who claimed to be from Delhi and "honey- trapped" men from the minority community in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand as they were "easy targets”.
SHO at Bijnor's Kotwali Dehat, Jaiveer Singh, said on Monday, “Khatun, who often posed as Puja Sharma, found an opportunity in ‘love jihad’ cases as it is easy to file an FIR in such circumstances. She even ran a gang comprising several men from Uttarakhand and UP to find potential targets and extort money from them. The woman had 'married' at least six persons in Assam, Uttarakhand and UP, as per our probe so far.”
Singh pointed out that the FIR she had filed in Bijnor against a resident of Akbarabad, Mohd Ehtasham, on July 6, led to her capture. During investigations, it came to light that she actually hailed from Darrang district in Assam. Police later found her original Aadhaar and voter ID, and also contacted her parents in Assam. "In the complaint against Ehtasham, the woman had claimed that her 'husband' abandoned her after marriage in May and she was tortured by her in-laws. The family was booked for domestic violence and dowry in that case, only to later find that the charges were fake. Further probe revealed she had filed similar FIRs against two other men -- Zaheer and Naushad -- at Patel Nagar police station in Dehradun and her associates in Uttarakhand and UP helped her in the extortion bid," the SHO added.
On Sunday, the woman along with her two Bijnor-based associates -- Mohd Zaheer and Asif -- was held and booked under relevant sections of the IPC.
Uttarakhand DGP, Ashok Kumar, said, “We are coordinating with UP Police in the probe and trying to nab the absconding accused.”

Khansa Ayyaz, Canadian Muslim Pilot Hopes to Inspire Women
Khansa Ayyaz Hijabi Pilot
-----
24 July, 2023
Looking up to her father who worked as a pilot in Pakistan, Khansa Ayyaz has always dreamt of taking to the skies.
The dream is getting closer to reality, thanks to the scholarships she received from Women in Aviation International, alongside other students from the Fanshawe College Norton Wolf School of Aviation and Aerospace Technology.
Support About Islam
As a Hijabi Muslim, Ayyaz had to break many false taboos to pursue her career ambitions.
“Obviously, there are so many religious aspects to it, where people are just like, ‘Oh, you’re a Muslim girl. Muslim girls don’t do careers like that or even have a career,’ right? Because, for women, we’re always told that we’re supposed to stay at home and be in the kitchen and men are supposed to provide,” she said.
In a country where male pilots outnumber female pilots 12 to one, according to the latest statistics from Transport Canada, Ayyaz hopes to inspire more women to pursue a career in aviation.
“This is like a dream for me. It’s my passion and I believe that women should be able to do anything that they put their mind to, especially if it’s in aviation. There should be more women being pilots,” she said.
More Muslim women have been following their dreams recently.
In 2022, Hassanah Al-Saba earned her wings in August, becoming the first Muslim woman pilot in Jamaica.
Iram Habib also became Kashmir’s first commercial pilot in 2018.

Female Saudi Inventor, AbeerbintMatar Al-Harthi, Takes Second Place in Prestigious Exposition in Korea
July 24, 2023
JEDDAH: AbeerbintMatar Al-Harthi, a researcher from Saudi Arabia, took the silver medal when she finished second in the Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition, an event in which 300 people took part.
Al-Harthi earned plaudits for her invention of augmented reality glasses, designed with smart lenses to aid the visually impaired.
The exposition, which was dedicated to the inventive ideas of women, took place in Seoul, from July 22 to 25.
KIWIE aims to discover and promote women’s inventions, nurture the culture of invention, and facilitate the exchange of ideas among female inventors.
Al-Harthi’s AR glasses featured smart lenses utilizing eye print technology for identity protection. The glasses possess the ability to automatically switch from transparent to dark mode. Additionally, they offer assistance to the visually impaired by enabling them to sense objects in their surroundings.
Al-Harthi said that her AR glasses had sensors on the temple arms, allowing them to connect seamlessly with a mobile phone and GPS through specific commands.
She said that the arms also contained a small storage unit housing miniature headphones that offered real-time translation and voice command capabilities. This feature would prove advantageous, especially for the hearing impaired.
Al-Harthi is a specialist at Irada and Mental Health Complex in Taif. Following her success she said her recognition was part of a trend among Saudi women in various fields, as a result of their empowerment through Vision 2030.
She was honored at the Saudi Embassy in Seoul, and shared the experience on Twitter.
She said: “Today, I was invited to the Saudi Embassy in Seoul, where I was received by the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Korea Sami M. Alsadhan and also His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Dail, his cultural attache. We were warmly received and honored with a certificate of appreciation and also a souvenir. Thank you.”

Farah Gogi, Trusted Aide of Bushra Bibi, Likely to Become Approver Against Imran Khan and His Wife
By Murtaza Ali Shah
July 25, 2023
LONDON: Farah Gogi, trusted aide of former first lady Bushra Bibi, may become an approver against her friend and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, sources told The News.
The News has learnt reliably that Farah is already cooperating with the Pakistani authorities and has been in touch with them for nearly a month now. All the while, she and her husband Ahsan Jameel Gujjar have been asked by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership not to cooperate with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other legal forums.
The source shared that Farah has already shared crucial information with the Pakistani authorities and a working relationship has developed already.
The sources confirmed that in the first week of May, Farah was asked to leave the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the Pakistan government told the Gulf state that she was a wanted person and involved in corrupt practices during her time in Dubai.
A highly trusted source confirmed that Farah has been “blacklisted” which means that she is unable to enter the UAE on any legal grounds because of the cases against her. It was only after reaching Italy that Farah started speaking to the Pakistani authorities and there has been a lot of progress.
Farhat Shahzadi — who is also known as Farah Gogi, Farah Khan, Farah Gujjar, Fari and many other aliases — left Pakistan a day after Imran Khan’s government was dissolved after the success of a vote of no confidence (VoNC), becoming the first high profile figure to flee the country as speculations had already grown that she will be arrested and grilled about her role in her dealings with Bushra Bibi as well as her direct role in running the govt affairs.
She reached Dubai from Pakistan and then visited the US and back to Dubai. She was using the UAE as her base — until the Pakistan government asked the authorities to take action as Pakistan and the UAE has an extradition treaty as well.
The source who shared details said that Farah left for Italy and was in the European country till a few days ago. When the news started circulating that Pakistan may ask Interpol to extradite Farah to Pakistan, a call was made from Zaman Park to a lawyer in the UK to assist in her cases.
In May, the FIA submitted a written request to Interpol seeking the arrest and red warrant of Farah, citing cases involving the appointment of officials through illicit means for money laundering and political influence. The FIA officials have stated that Farhat Shahzadi has already been declared an absconder by the court in the money laundering case.
According to FIA officials, Farah is absconding abroad against whom irrefutable evidence of money laundering has been collected.
Pakistani investigators believe that Farah facilitated Imran Khan and Bushra to sell the Graff watch set gifted to the state of Pakistan by Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman and sold it to Dubai-based businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor for a price of $2 million.
Imran Khan is alleged to be the primary beneficiary of this deal who used his wife’s friend to steal state gifts and pocket the proceeds by illegally retrieving them from Toshakhana by placing a fake receipt of a watch dealer who has denied issuing any receipt.
Zahoor revealed a few months ago on Geo News show Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Key Saath that he had bought it from Farah and that she was introduced to him initially by Shahzad Akbar, the former accountability minister who now lives in London.
Pakistani investigators claim Bushra was behind most of the postings and transfers during the Usman Buzdar era in Punjab, raking billions in ill-gotten profits during the term.
Azhar Siddique, who is currently in the UK, has been assisting Farah Gogi in her legal matters through his law firm in Lahore. He confirmed to Geo News that he was in touch with Farah and her husband but was not aware of their location.
“All allegations against Farah Gogi are politically motivated and false. She has done nothing wrong. There is no case against her.”
Azhar Siddique said he had no knowledge if Farah was negotiating with the Pakistani authorities. Her husband Ahsan Jameel has also denied all allegations against her.

Muslim women’s group to reopen oxygen homes if Indonesia wildfires intensify
24 July 2023
Indonesia’s oldest women’s Islamic organization will prepare volunteers in Kalimantan and Sumatra to open clean air sanctuaries, should a strengthening El Niño accelerate wildfires over the coming months.
“We will make sure the LLHPB will protect our children, women, our network and the community around the forest fires to make sure they stay alive and stay healthy in this situation,” said Hening PurwatiParlan, the vice chair of ‘Aisyiyah’s environmental and disaster management wing, the Lembaga LingkunganHidup dan PenanggulanganBencana (LLHPB).
Indonesia’s first Islamic women’s organization was founded in 1917 to advocate for education rights for girls. Today ‘Aisyiyah, part of the Muhammadiyah Islamic organization, claims more than 4 million members across the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.
In 2015, ‘Aisyiyah established its environmental arm, the LLHPB, to respond to environmental damage in the community and address harms from climate change, adding to existing gender initiatives in the community, such as prevention of child marriage.
In 2022, while head of the LLHPB, Hening wrote a paper setting out the case for an “eco-jihad,” a spiritual struggle to confront climate change, among ‘Aisyiyah’s followers. “The impacts of climate change can no longer be handled as normal, there is a need to handle it with urgency,” Hening wrote, citing the Surah Al-A’raf, verses 56-58 in the Koran.
Oxygen homes
As wildfires burned through 3.1 million hectares (7.7 million acres) of land in Indonesia over the course of 2019, ‘Asiyiyah volunteers operated RumahOksigen (“Oxygen Homes”) equipped with air purifiers to aid the most susceptible to hazardous air circulating outside.
“The pollution was so high outside, so we protect them in the home,” Hening said. “It’s like an emergency home.”
One study by Harvard and Columbia universities suggested air pollution from Southeast Asia’s 2015 wildfire catastrophe may have caused 100,000 early deaths.
At its upcoming annual meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, in mid-July, the organization will emphasize the importance of women raising awareness in communities.
“Education and awareness for women and children — distributing information on how to protect themselves,” Hening said. “Awareness is very important.”
In addition, ‘Aisyiyah’s leadership will advise volunteers in provinces at risk from wildfires to be prepared to open the Oxgyen Homes if El Niño sparks severe wildfires over the coming months.
‘Aisyiyah volunteers in the field said they were ready to reprise the system if El Niño fueled wildfires comparable to 2019.
“If the condition is an emergency like at that time, then it will be possible to reopen [the Oxygen Homes], and we can develop more,” said Widati Irma, the head of the LLHPB in Riau province.
In West Kalimantan province, two Oxygen Homes have remained active every year since the 2019 fires, staffed by volunteers from ‘Aisyiyah as well as university health and nursing faculties.
“We must always be on standby,” said Ramah Susanti in West Kalimantan. “The Oxygen Home is always ready for the people of West Kalimantan.”
Air support
In mid-June the Climate Prediction Center at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced El Niño conditions had arrived for the first time since 2019 and would strengthen through October. Indonesia’s meteorology agency has advised that a potentially dangerous dry season looms, elevating risks of wildfires burning on the world’s largest reserves of tropical peatlands.
“The fires in 2019 really provided a lesson for everyone about the environment and forests,” said Ramah in West Kalimantan. “Schools were closed, all activities were paralyzed.”
In 2020, President Joko Widodo ordered government officials to find a “permanent solution” to wildfires after the 2019 dry season, which was exacerbated by a positive Indian Ocean Dipole, where warmer sea surface temperatures in the Indian Ocean lead to less rainfall.
A legal crackdown on small farmers burning biomass has ensued, together with efforts to raise the capacity of farmers and community firefighters to prevent damaging wildfires. The head of Indonesia’s disaster management agency said earlier this month that officials were confident of better infrastructure in the field compared with four years ago.
Indonesia has won praise after the archipelago recorded significant falls in wildfire damage between 2020 and July 2023. However, experts say the first El Niño event since 2019 presents a major test, and a worry for those who live in the firing line.
“This year there will be a heat storm from El Niño,” said Rahmah Susanti. “This will definitely make us more worried about wildfires in vulnerable areas.”

Teenage Maid ‘Severely Tortured’ By Judge’s Wife in Islamabad; Police Reluctant To Register A Case
July 25, 2023
ISLAMABAD/SARGODHA: A minor housemaid, who was hired by a civil judge. was subjected to “severe torture” by her employers at their residence in the federal capital, but the police are reluctant to register a case regarding the torture of the 13-year girl, Dawn has learnt.
The civil judge of the Punjab Judicial Service is working in the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad, on deputation for about three years.
Police officers told Dawn that the Sargodha police contacted the officers of the Islamabad police, from the police chief’s office to the relevant SHO, and provided them with all the documents, including the complaint and the medico-legal certificate requesting them to register the case.
The response of the police was “unprofessional and non-serious”.
After the issue was highlighted in the media, the Sargodha police again contacted the capital police to register the case. At this, the police asked for the presence of the complaint at the police station concerned even though they had received relevant documents from the Sargodha police, they added.
The Sargodha police registered a report after the girl was brought to DHQ Sargodha with injuries. According to the report, the injured girl was brought to hospital at 7:21am in poor condition. “She was working at a house of a judge where she was subjected to torture,” the report added.
According to hospital sources, there were wounds on the head, face, and body of the girl which were reportedly caused by a “blunt weapon” while there were some burn injuries on her body as well.
The mother of the girl said that she would lodge a complaint against the wife of the judicial officer over theft allegations against her daughter. She alleged that the wife would also beat her daughter whenever she asked for the salary or to see her parents.
She alleged that her daughter was “thrashed mercilessly with a blunt as well as a sharp-edged weapon” and was also burned with a hot iron.
Talking to Dawn, Sargodha District Police Officer Mohammad Faisal said the 13-year-old girl hailed from Sargodha. She was hired by the judge through a contractor as a housemaid against a salary of Rs10,000 per month about six months ago, he added.
The DPO quoted the girl’s family as saying that her employer was not happy with her and asked the parents to take her back. Her family came to Islamabad in response to a call from the employer and took her to Sargodha, he added.
On her way back to their native town, the mother spotted injuries on her daughter’s body, SSP Faisal said, adding that her family took her to a local hospital in Sargodha where the hospital demanded a medico-legal certificate (MLC) for her treatment treating it as a case of torture.
In response, the Sargodha police issued an MLC for her treatment, he said, adding that according to the MLC, she had multiple injuries, including two fractures and lacerations. Her wounds were infected apparently due to a delay in treatment. She had bruises and swelling as well.
The doctors advised the family to take her to Lahore due to her head injuries, the DPO said, adding that the Sargodha police arranged a police ambulance to move her to Lahore.
The Lahore police were also approached to facilitate the girl and her family at the hospital, SSP Faisal said, adding that the Sargodha police also arranged the traveling of the family to Lahore in a passenger vehicle.
The Sargodha police also assisted the father of the girl, Manga Khan to write a complaint for the registration of the case, he said, adding that all the relevant documents were sent to Islamabad police for further legal action.
A police officer of the capital police told Dawn that the complaint from the girl’s father was received by the capital police for the registration of the case against her employer at the Humak police station. Police sources said that a case could also registered against the judge for hiring an underage maid and concealing facts.
Complaint by girl’s father
According to the complainant, he sent her daughter Rizwana Bibi, 13, to the house of the civil judge at Zarta Housing Society six months ago to work at a salary of Rs10,000 per month.
On Sunday, he along with her wife, and brother-in-law came to Islamabad to meet her at the house of the judge and found the girl crying and in deteriorated condition.
She had injuries on her head, hands, and legs, besides her teeth were broken and there was swelling around her eyes, lips and nose, the complaint said, adding that her ribs were also fractured and marks of injuries were found on her back.
On inquiry, she told her family that she was subjected to torture by the judge’s wife on a daily basis and the employer also refused to give her food at times. She said she was detained in a room.
Meanwhile, the civil judge told media persons that the girl injured her head by herself. He said that her spouse was investigating her regarding the alleged theft of some gold ornaments. He claimed that the girl was used to eating clay and some marks on her face appeared due to this habit.
Previously, an additional sessions judge (ADSJ) of Islamabad and his spouse were arrested on the same charges. The judge was terminated from service and also imprisoned for three years.
