West Midlands Police Officers Suspended After Dragging Half-Naked Muslim Woman From Property In Birmingham
5th December 2022
Two West Midlands Police officers have
been suspended after they dragged a half-dressed Muslim woman out of a property
in Birmingham.
The i website revealed that the incident
took place on November 18 when police were called to the property to remove the
woman who had been recently evicted and was refusing to leave.
According to i, video footage shows one
officer saying: “What we can do is, we can either do it nice and fairly and you
can get up and leave, or we can drag you out and then you can complain about
me. I fear that if you stay here there is going to be a breach of the peace.”
The officers then proceeded to take her
arms, to which she said: “I haven’t got any trousers on, I’m a Muslim woman
with hijab on.”
The police placed her in handcuffs,
before dragging her through the hallways of the property and leaving her
outside. In the footage, she is heard screaming.
Speaking to i, the woman said: “The two
men just grabbed me. They should not have touched me. I feel violated, I had
nothing on the bottom. I have no words for it. If a normal person did this,
what am I going to do, call the police? So they can do that again? They had no
right to lay a finger on me. I’ve tried to block it out my mind… I felt
humiliated.”
West Midlands Police has also referred
the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has begun
an investigation.
They said the two police officers had
been suspended from duty while the case is investigated, adding they had been
responding to a “report of a dispute between a tenant and a housing manager.”
“There was an initial suggestion that
one party was barricaded in to their property. Officers attended and used force
to remove a woman, who was partially undressed, from the building.
“The woman made it clear she was of
Muslim faith. We understand how concerning this will be for the public and
especially Muslim communities and we will fully support the IOPC in their investigation.”

Confusion Over Iran’s Religious Police
As Women Drop Hijab
December 6, 2022
Confusion over the status of Iran’s
religious police grew as state media cast doubt on reports the force had been
shut down. Despite the uncertainty, it has appeared for weeks that enforcement
of the strict dress code has been scaled back as more women walk the streets
without wearing the required headscarf.
The mixed messages have raised
speculation that Iran’s cleric-run leadership is considering concessions in an
attempt to defuse widespread anti-government protests that are entering the
third month. The protests were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini
after she was detained by the religious police.
Monday marked the start of another
three-day nationwide strike called by protesters. In Tehran’s Grand Bazaar,
about a third of the shops were closed, witnesses said. In response, Iran’s
judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejehi ordered the arrest of anyone
encouraging the strike or trying to intimidate shops into shutting down.
The morality police, established in
2005, are tasked with enforcing Iran’s restrictions on public behaviour and
strict dress codes — particularly on women, who are required to wear the hijab,
or headscarf, and loose-fitting clothes.
Outrage erupted after Amini’s death in
the force’s custody in mid-September, after she was arrested for allegedly
failing to meet the dress code. Since then, the protests have expanded into
calls for the ouster of Iran’s clerical rulers.
On Saturday, Iran’s chief prosecutor,
Mohamed Jafar Montazeri, said the religious police “had been closed,” in a
report published by the semi-official news agency, ISNA. He was also quoted as
saying that the government was reviewing the mandatory hijab law.
It’s disinformation that Islamic
Republic of Iran has abolished it’s morality police. It’s a tactic to stop the
uprising.

bullets to abolish morality police or forced hijab. They want to end Islamic
regime.#MahsaAmini

“We are working fast on the issue of
hijab and we are doing our best to come up with a thoughtful solution to deal
with this phenomenon that hurts everyone’s heart,” he said, without offering
details.
But late Sunday, Arabic-language state
outlet Al-Alam issued a report suggesting Montazeri’s comments had been
misunderstood. The report said the religious police were not connected to the
judiciary, to which Montazeri belongs. It underlined that no official has
confirmed the closure of the religious police.
It also pointed to Montazeri’s further
statement that “the judicial branch will continue its monitoring of behavioural
reactions at the community level.”
The hard-line SNN.ir news website said
the morality police “has not come to an end and has not closed.” But it added
that “its mechanism would possibly change, a point that was under discussion
before the riots.” The site is close to the Basij, the feared paramilitary
force under the powerful Revolutionary Guard, which is dedicated to protecting
Iran’s cleric-led system.
Despite unprecedented repression
tonight, #IranProtests continue in various Tehran districts, Mashhad, Isfahan,
Shiraz, Hamedan, Amol, Karaj, Zanjan, Ilam, Bandar Abbas, Arak, Rasht, etc. The
protests shall overcome the mullahs’ regime; bring freedom &ppl’s
sovereignty to #Iran. pic.twitter.com/VLE51m7RMJ
The status of the force could not be
confirmed. Officials have avoided comment. When asked about Montazeri’s
statement by journalists in Belgrade, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein
Amirabdollahian gave no direct answer.
Still, for weeks, fewer morality police
officers have been seen in Iranian cities. Across Tehran, It has become common
to see women walking the city’s streets without wearing the hijab, particularly
in wealthier areas — but also to a lesser extent in more traditional
neighbourhoods. At times, unveiled women walk past anti-riot police and Basiji
forces.
The anti-government demonstrations have
shown few signs of stopping despite a violent crackdown in which, according to
rights groups, at least 471 people were killed. More than 18,200 people have
been arrested, according to Human Rights Activists in Iran, a group monitoring
the demonstrations.
Protesters say they are tired of decades
of social and political repression, including the dress code. Women have played
a leading role in protests, stripping off their headscarf.
Ali Alfoneh, a senior fellow at the Arab
Gulf States Institute in Washington, said an informal relaxation of the hijab
law may be the government’s current policy.
‘For the time being, rather than
changing the hijab law, the Islamic Republic will most likely not enforce the
law, in order to reduce tension with society,” Alfoneh said.
Meanwhile, residents said security was
heightened in the Grand Bazaar on Monday, the first day of the strike. There
have been two previous strikes in the Bazaar in solidarity with protesters. One
shop owner who was open Monday said he had been warned by authorities not to
join the strike after he shut down during a previous one.

Islamic Fundamentalists Against Equal
Rights For Women: Kerala CPM Govt Crawls Before Islamists
06-12-22
Kerala : The left Govt, led by Chief
Minister and CPM supremo Pinarayi Vijayan has once again proved that it is
bound to crawl before Islamic fundamentalists when they ask it to kneel. The
state witnessed this when the CPM Govt withdrew the oath Kudumbasree volunteers
were supposed to take during Gender Resources Meeting between November 25 to
December 23, 2022.
The reason for this shameful climb down
is simple: Nasar Faizy Koodathayi, a leader of Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyathul
Qutba Committee, an influential Islamic religious body, objected. Because the
oath says,“We will provide equal rights for both male and female over the
property,” Koodathai says it violates religious freedom and goes against the
principles of the Quran. He says it is against Shari’a Law. He says the pledge
was against the fundamental rights of religious freedom granted by the
Constitution. The state government has been organizing various praise-worthy
projects through Kudumbashree as part of the gender campaign conducted by the
Union Rural Development Ministry. But, equal right for males and females over
ancestral property is not acceptable to Islamic principles.
Koodathai maintains, as per Quran, a man
is entitled to have a share of property equal to that of two women, and the
female member is allowed half of what a male member gets from the father’s
property. However, he claims it is not discrimination since the man takes total
responsibility for looking after the family. Given the expenses a male has to
bear to look after a family, this Quran Law cannot be considered discrimination.
Negation of this religious right will lead to protests.
Koodathai was recently in the news for
his statement against the football craze gripping the young generation. He
thinks the kudumbashree oath will serve as a helping hand to the drive for a
Common Civil Code. This new controversy unleashed by Koodathai has hit the
headlines of even the national media.
The GoK’s withdrawal of the oath has
invited the wrath of the nationalist forces and the Cyber World. Netizens
wonder if GoK, by succumbing to the fundamentalist pressure, admits that women
do not deserve equal rights as men enjoy. They blast CM Pinarayi Vijayan for
scrawling before the organized vote bank. They ask him to show willpower like
PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah do. Both were willing to ban
Muthalaq and raise the marriage age for women. They ask if GoK will refuse to
implement the Common Civil Code when the union government implements it.
effective strategy for the empowerment
of women in rural as well as urban sectors. It intends to bring women together
from all spheres to fight for their rights and empowerment. GoK runs it. It was
launched in May 1998 by Prime Minister Sri Atal Behari Vajpayee.
In August 2022, Muslim fundamentalist
organizations and even self-styled ‘secular’ Indian Union Muslim League joined
hands to oppose the draft proposals for the gender-neutral uniform for Kerala
schools. It was part of the school curriculum framework prepared by the State
Council for Educational, Research and Training (SCERT). Now, it is reported
that a new oath will be drafted and communicated to the programme officers of
Kudumbashree
Nationalist movements have come forward
to protest against the shameful surrender of GoK before the fundamentalist
forces. BJP state president said that the latest episode proves that the
details of organized religious fundamentalists rule the state. GoK withdraws
from every reform when the fundamentalists dictate their terms. The state
witnessed this when the government started, from the proposals for gender-neutral
school uniforms and PSC appointments to Waqf Board jobs.
Withdrawal of the Kudumbashree oath is
blatantly anti-women and reactionary. Is it not going to implement the Sharia
rule here? They only spent Rs 50 crores for the Women’s Renaissance Wall for
taking controversial women to Sabarimala and breaking age-long traditions in
the shrine. Surendran added that now the government is compromising fundamental
Constitutional rights for equality One thing is true: Every step of Pinarayi is
based on the diktats of fundamentalist forces. He is least bothered about the
people
he rules, not posterity.
