Taliban Orders Women Not To Take Part In Eid Celebrations In Takhar and Baghlan Provinces: Report
Afghanistan:
A Taliban fighter stands guard as a woman walks past in Kabul, Afghanistan.
-----
22 Apr 2023
The Taliban has
directed women not to attend Eid celebrations in two provinces of Afghanistan.
The orders were issued in the Takhar and Baghlan provinces of Afghanistan. This
comes as the ultra-conservative regime has implemented a series of
restrictions, including barring girls from attending school beyond the sixth
grade, preventing women from pursuing higher education and most forms of employment,
including jobs at the United Nations.
According to a
report by Khaama Press, two similar notifications were issued in the
aforementioned provinces that stated, “It is forbidden for women to go out in
groups during the days of Eid ul-Fitr” on Friday in the Takhar in the northeast
and the Baghlan province in the north.
Earlier this
month, the Taliban authorities banned the entry of women and families into
restaurants with gardens or green spaces in Afghanistan's northwestern Herat
province.
“The moves followed
complaints from religious scholars and members of the public about mixing of
genders in such places,” an official said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
Since assuming
power in August 2021, the Taliban has implemented a lot of restrictions on
women. Besides preventing women from higher education and most forms of
employment, they have also imposed a ban on women accessing public spaces such
as parks and gyms.
Earlier, Baz
Mohammad Nazir, a deputy official from the Ministry of Vice and Virtue's
directorate in Herat, denied media reports that all restaurants were off limits
to families and women, dismissing them as propaganda, according to PTI.
He said it
applied only to restaurants with green areas, such as a park, where men and
women could meet. "After repeated complaints from scholars and ordinary
people, we set limits and closed these restaurants."
Besides this,
female Afghan employees working with the United Nations were stopped from
working by Taliban authorities in eastern Afghanistan, as per the officials of
the world body.
The Taliban had
also banned women employed with NGOs last year.
These
restrictions continue even as the Taliban has garnered worldwide condemnation
for its diktats restricting women and girls' education, work, and movement.

Moroccan Hasnae Taleb, First Arab, African Woman Nominated as ‘Shewolf of Nasdaq’
Moroccan
entrepreneur and investor Hasnae Taleb
------
Apr. 24, 2023
Rabat -
Moroccan entrepreneur, investor, and financial expert HasnaeTaleb has become
the first Arab and African woman to be nominated as “The Shewolf of Nasdaq” by
the New York-based American stock exchange.
Taleb’s passion
for finance and trading began at a young age. She started her career as an
equity trader at Nasdaq at the age of 21, making her the youngest and only Arab
woman in that position.
At 17 years
old, she won the NASA Marshall's Space Competition, representing her country,
Morocco.
The Moroccan entrepreneur,
who is currently a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in the UAE, made
her first million dollars at the age of 23. Since then, Taleb has gone on to
become a “successful entrepreneur, financial expert, TV personality, and
investor,” indicated a press release published by EIN Presswire.
Thanks to her
hard work and passion for the financial industry, Taleb was nominated as “The
Best Youngest Trader of the Year” in the United States by TheRichest in 2014.
The same year, Nasqad nominated her as
“The Youngest Self-Made Equity Trader.”
Taleb
attributes her success to her hard work, dedication, and passion for the
financial industry. She believes that individuals from humble beginnings often
develop a strong work ethic and resilience that are crucial to success,
regardless of the industry.
“When someone
comes from a background that lacks privilege or resources, they are forced to
rely on their own drive, determination, and resourcefulness to achieve their
goals,” she said.
While Taleb
recognizes the role of “luck and external circumstances” in achieving success,
she puts a huge emphasis on “individual effort” as well.
The Moroccan
trader, who has become a role model for women and youth in finance, has built
an important following on social media. With nearly 100k followers on
Instagram, Taleb regularly shares tips and advice on trading and investing with
her audience.

60-Year-Old
Iranian Woman Dies of Cardiac Arrest After Fight Over Forced Hijab RulesBetween
Security Forces And A Group Of People
APRIL 24, 2023
An Iranian
woman died after a fistfight erupted between security forces and a group of
people opposed to mandatory hijab regulations in the southern city of Kerman,
local media reported.
The fight
erupted in a park on April 23 when members of the paramilitary Basij force
warned visitors about hijab violations and people came to support women without
a headscarf, Rouydad24 news website reported.
It said a
60-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest and later died in hospital.
The
semi-official Fars news agency confirmed the death but described the conflict
as a fight between "several passengers and a group of people."
Police detained
several people in relation to the incident, it said.
The governor of
Kerman said that the "mass conflict" was sparked by personal issues.
All women in
Iran must conceal their hair with a headscarf and wear loose fitting trousers
under their coats while in public.
But a growing
number of women have appeared in public without a hijab since a young woman
died in police custody in September 2022, triggering nationwide protests
demanding more freedoms and women’s rights. Amini had been arrested for
allegedly wearing a headscarf improperly.
Some defiant
women were arrested or summoned by the authorities, while many businesses were
shut down due to the failure of owners or managers to observe hijab rules.
The judiciary
claimed that according to the Islamic Penal Code, removing the hijab in public
is a “crime," and police chief AhmadrezaRadan warned that starting on
April 15, anyone violating hijab laws in public places, cars and commercial
establishments will be prosecuted.
