The Taliban have arrested women in the
Afghan capital for wearing “bad hijab”, a spokesman at the country’s vice and
virtue ministry said on Thursday.
It’s the first official confirmation of
a crackdown on women who don’t follow the dress code imposed by the Taliban
since they returned to power in 2021 and has echoes with neighbouring Iran,
which has enforced mandatory hijab for decades.
The development is the latest blow to
Afghan women and girls, who are already reeling from bans on education,
employment and access to public spaces. The spokesman from the vice and virtue
ministry, Abdul Ghafar Farooq, didn’t say how many women have been arrested or
what constitutes a bad hijab.
In May 2022, the Taliban issued a decree
calling for women to only show their eyes and recommending they wear the
head-to-toe burqa, similar to restrictions during the Taliban’s previous rule
between 1996 and 2001.
Farooq said the women were arrested
three days ago.
In voice notes to The Associated Press,
he said the ministry has heard complaints about women’s lack of correct hijab
in the capital and provinces for almost two-and-a-half years.
Ministry officials made recommendations
to women and advised them to follow the dress code. Female police officers were
sent to arrest the women after they failed to follow the advice, he added.
“These are the few limited women who
spread bad hijab in Islamic society,” he said. “They violated Islamic values
and rituals, and encouraged society and other respected sisters to go for bad
hijab.”
Police will refer the matter to judicial
authorities or the women will be released on strict bail, according to Farooq.
“In every province, those who go without hijab will be arrested,” he warned.
The arrests come less than a week after the UN Security Council called for a
special envoy to engage with the Taliban on gender and human rights.

UN Women Group Crowns Pro-Palestinian
Transgender Woman, Munroe Bergdorf, To Be Their 'Champion,' Sparking Outrage
Transgender
model becomes U.N. Women "champion.
-----
January 4, 2024
The United Kingdom wing of U.N. Women
faced backlash after announcing that a pro-Palestinian transgender model would
be its "champion" of women.
Munroe Bergdorf was selected as the
first U.N. Women U.K. Champion in November. However, 17 women's groups took
notice and penned an open letter Jan. 2 expressing concern about the
appointment.
"The female population of the UK is
more than 33 million, yet you have ignored every one of us and chosen a
male," the letter, addressed to U.N. Women executive director SimaBahous,
the U.N. Women executive committee and the U.N. Women U.K. Committee, said.
"Munroe Bergdorf’s well-publicized
activism is not pro-women," the letter continued.
Other critics, such as Douglas Murray,
blasted the main U.N. Women group for yet another example of bad
decision-making by the international body.
"Seems to be this group has a
problem with... reality," Murray said on Talk TV. Murray also raised
concern about how U.N. Women dragged its feet for nearly two months before
explicitly condemning Hamas' brutal rape of women.
Bergdorf, a pro-Palestinian activist who
has posted messages such as "Gays 4 Gaza," "Dykes for a free
Palestine," and "Queers for Palestine," has called for a
"ceasefire," an end to Israel's national security response to Hamas'
terrorist attack and invasion on Oct. 7.
The qualifications for becoming a
"champion" for U.N. Women U.K. included, "someone who has made
incredible contributions to gender equality and the rights of women,
girls."
"Working with the U.N. has been a
personal ambition and dream of mine. It’s a responsibility that I don’t take
lightly," Bergdorf said in the interview with Attitude. "I will use
this role to further advocate for the progress, safety, inclusion and
empowerment of ALL women and girls, of all communities and identities."

ZionistEnemy Media Says Police Found No
Evidence Of Alleged Sexual Assaults, Presented At UN, On October 7
[05/January/2024]
OCCUPIED AL-QUDS January 04. 2024 (Saba)
- The Zionist enemy media has revealed that the enemy police are finding it
difficult to find eyewitnesses to confirm that sexual assaults committed on
October 7.
Haaretz newspaper said the testimonies
of alleged sexual assaults presented at the United Nations are based on the
testimony of one young woman.
"Israel" sought to promote a
narrative that members of the Palestinian resistance committed "crimes of
sexual violence and rape" in sl-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7.
Washington adopted these allegations despite the lack of evidence to prove
them.
It is worth noting that Washington
backed down from adopting the enemy’s claims that Palestinian resistance
members beheaded children on October 7, after US President Joe Biden said that
he “saw photographic evidence of beheaded children.”
For its part, the Washington Post
newspaper quoted a White House spokesman as saying that “neither Biden nor any
official saw pictures or confirmed the veracity of reports about terrorists
beheading children,” pointing out that Biden’s statements regarding the alleged
atrocities were based on Israeli media reports.
An investigation conducted by "Gray
Zone" website revealed that the source of the rumor of Israeli children
being beheaded in "KfarAzza" settlement during "al-Aqsa
Flood" battle was launched by a settler leader who had incited earlier, in
May, the eradication of the village of Huwara in Nablus governorate.

Israel has detained 200 Palestinian
women and children in Gaza since 7 October: monitor
04 January, 2024
Israeli forces have detained at least
200 Palestinian women and children in Gaza during their deadly military campaign
on the territory which started almost three months ago, the Euro-Med Human
Rights Monitor said on Wednesday.
The Geneva-based monitor said it did not
have any official information regarding the conditions the women and child
detainees are in, the location of the detention sites, or the charges brought
against them.
The group said that the detentions of
women and children were among more than 3,000 made by Israeli forces in Gaza
since October 7, amid Israel's air and ground assault on the Palestinian territory.
In a statement cited by the Turkish news
agency Anadolu, Euro-Med said: "Accurate statistics on the number of
detainees from the Gaza Strip are not available to this day, due to incidents
of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance committed by the Israeli army
inside the Strip, in addition to the difficulty of receiving reports due to the
separation of families and the almost permanent interruption of communications
and the internet."
Euro-Med cited an example of a
Palestinian infant being abducted from Gaza by Israeli forces, moments after a
strike on her home killed family members in the war-torn enclave, though it did
not specify when the incident took place.
The chilling incident was confirmed by
Israeli soldier Shahar Mendelsohn in an interview with the Israeli Army Radio
last week. Mendelsohn said a now-killed Givati Brigade officer, HarelItach,
told a friend that he "heard the sound of a baby crying in one of the
homes he entered and decided to send her to Israel".
The monitor said it felt "deep fear
and concern that the incident with the baby would not be an isolated
case", noting that testimonies it received indicated that Israeli forces
were detained and transferring Palestinian children without later revealing
their destination or condition.
Euro-Med urged the international
community to "oblige Israel in handing over the child that the Israeli
officer admitted to kidnapping, and whose fate or whereabouts are not yet
known".
The group is calling on Israel to
release all Palestinian children detainees immediately and reveal details of
other captives.
Among those detained in Gaza includes
journalist Diaa al-Kahlout, the Gaza bureau chief for The New Arab's sister
site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Kahlout, and other civilians, were
beaten, forcibly taken at gunpoint, and stripped to his underwear in a mass
incident in Beit Lahia earlier last month.
There are concerns the media worker has
been tortured in detention.
Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank and
East Jerusalem, Israel has detained at least 4,700 Palestinians since 7
October.
Israel's military onslaught in Gaza has
killed at least 22,313 Palestinians, including scores of women and children.
Thousands more feared missing and trapped under rubble, while famine and
diseases are likely to exacerbate the death toll.
