Seven-Year-Old Girl Of GujaratSold For Rs 3 Lakh To Recover Father’s Debt

Dec 21, 2024

Palanpur: A shocking case of child trafficking came to light in Sabarkantha district, where a seven-year-old girl was allegedly sold to a person in Rajasthan for Rs 3 lakh by three loan sharks to recover the money lent to her father.

The incident was reported on Dec 19, 2024, at Himmatnagar City A Division police station. The police registered a case against Arjun Nat and Sharifa Nat from Modasa in Aravalli district and Lakhpati Nat from Devagam village in Balasinor taluka of Mahisagar district.

In-charge police inspector A B Shah said that the accused were apprehended within hours of filing the FIR. The accused were produced in court on Saturday, which remanded them in police custody for seven days.

According to the complaint filed by Shah, Arjun Nat lent Rs 60,000 to the girl's father, a daily wager, at a pre-decided interest rate. "Despite regular repayment of the interest, Arjun and Sharifa demanded an inflated amount of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh from him. When the demand was not met, the accused reportedly assaulted him at his home and forced him to sign blank papers," said an officer.

The case came to light when the victim's family filed a complaint in court two days ago instead of approaching the police. Acting on the court's orders, the police registered the case on Dec 19 and initiated an investigation. It was revealed that the minor was taken to a village near Ajmer.

Investigation officer S B Chaudhary said the accused were questioned to find out where the child was sold, to whom she was sold, and the whereabouts of the money obtained from the sale. "Efforts will also be made to recover the money. We also want to find out about the blank papers on which signatures were forcibly taken, and whether they were used for any purpose," said Chaudhary.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the girl's father works as a mason earning daily wages. The arrested accused also earn their livelihoods through labour and domestic work.

Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump withdraws from Senate bid, hints at 'big announcement'

Dec 22, 2024

US President-elect's daughter-in-law Lara Trump announced on Saturday she will not seek the Florida Senate seat that'll be vacated by Marco Rubio. Rubio is President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of state.“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Lara Trump posted on X.

The speculations on Lara's Senate bid had started when she stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. During that role, she played a significant role in the Republican Party's success in securing the White House, Senate control, and maintaining a slim House majority.

Reflection on the RNC role, she expressed gratitude and said that she'll have another announcement to make in the new year. "I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida. I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough. I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned," she said.

Lara Trump, born Lara Lea Yunaska on October 12, 1982, is an American television producer, campaign advisor, and former television host. She is married to Eric Trump, the third child of Donald Trump. Lara has been a prominent figure in the Trump family's business and political activities, combining media experience with political strategy.

A North Carolina State University graduate with a degree in communication, she later earned a pastry arts degree from the French Culinary Institute. Lara began her career as a story coordinator and producer for "Inside Edition."

Her political prominence emerged during Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, where she played a key role in engaging female voters. She also continued her involvement as a senior consultant for Trump's 2020 re-election campaign, frequently appearing as a spokesperson and strategist.

Meanwhile, for the Florida Senate seat following Rubio's anticipated resignation from his senatorial role when Trump assumes office on January 20, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will appoint his successor. In her statement, Lara Trump acknowledged this responsibility for DeSantis wishing him "the best of luck with this appointment."

DeSantis indicated last month that whilst numerous potential candidates had expressed keen interest, the final decision would probably be announced by early January.

Muslim Community Mourns Sara Sharif, Murdered By Her Father And Stepmother, And Vows To Ensure 'This Never Happens Again'

-------------

The Muslim community came together at the UK's oldest mosque for a funeral ceremony for Sara Sharif. Large crowds descended on Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking for a Ghaibana Janazah, a traditional Islamic funeral prayer, for the 10-year-old who was murdered by her father and stepmother at their home in Horsell.

The mosque was crowded full of men and women, with many struggling to fit in the room to join the communal prayer. After the Janazah head Imam Hafiz Hashmi told the crowds: "Families and friends share the responsibility of looking out for one another, and we must do everything in our power to ensure that no other child suffers in such a devastating manner."

Kawther Hashmi, wife of the head Imam and Secretary of the Surrey Muslim Association told SurreyLive it was important that the Woking Muslim community held a Ghaibana Janazah in Sara's name for many reasons. She said: "First of all today is closure for us. In Islam when anyone dies that is part of the community, we give them a funeral. Although she was a child, she was part of the community. People feel a sense of peace now that this has happened."

She revealed that a permanent memorial for Sara will be created at the mosque so "we never forget her". She added: "It is our collected responsibly to make sure this never happens again, and the memorial will be apart of that."

While many of the mourners were from Woking's Muslim community some travelled from further afield for the ceremony on Friday, December 20 . Mohammed Shahzad, 45, who travelled from Oxfordshire, said: "I felt true pain for what her family did to her. She felt like a daughter to me. I would have regretted it of I didn’t come today. The journey is long but I needed to give her my love and respect."

Speaking to SurreyLive after the prayer service, Imam Hashmi explained how he felt during the trial, where three members of Sara’s family were found guilty over her death. He said: "I felt pain, it was greatly shocking and horrific for all of us, we have had sleepless night over this. Muhammad (Sallā -llāhuʿalayhiwa-sallam) taught us to care for our children. Children are all for our love."

Talking about what mosque and its community will be doing looking forward from this tragic incident, he added: "We are praying and making sure we are vigilant. If we see any suspicious activity with children we will report to authorities."

Mrs Hashmi said there is "an urge amongst the community" to make sure this never happens again through close communication with local authorities about the welfare of their community's children and young ones.

Sara's body was laid to rest in Poland as part of a Christian funeral service held by her mother. But members of Woking's Islamic community felt, because Sara was raised as part of the Islamic faith; it was their religious obligation to perform Ghaibana Janazah in her name. A Ghaibana Janazah is performed when the deceased person is absent from the funeral.

Afghan Women Need Global Support to Survive Taliban Regime: US Embassy for Afghanistan

Maryam NoureenJanjua

December 22, 2024

On December 14, 2024, the US Embassy for Afghanistan, currently operating from Qatar, issued a statement highlighting the dire plight of Afghan women under the Taliban regime. Shared via X (formerly Twitter), the embassy’s statement underscored that the systemic injustices faced by Afghan women not only jeopardize the future of Afghanistan but also threaten global justice. This stark warning calls for urgent global action to address the Taliban’s regressive policies, which systematically dismantle women’s rights in Afghanistan.

The Taliban’s return to power in August 2021 marked a catastrophic setback for women’s rights in Afghanistan. Over the past three years, the regime has systematically stripped women and girls of their fundamental rights to education, employment, and healthcare. However, there is resistance from within, especially the women folks who want to be steadfast against tyrannical rule. The survival of Afghan women—and their ability to reclaim their rightful place in society—depends on sustained and unified global support.

The Taliban’s governance is characterized by an ideology that denies women and girls access to education and employment. Secondary schools for girls have been shut down, and female students are barred from universities. A Human Rights Watch report in February 2024 alarmed that the closure of health institutes for women and girls exacerbates the already fragile healthcare system, leaving millions without access to essential services. These actions are a direct challenge to the global commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The US Embassy’s statement is a stark reminder that the Taliban’s policies are not just a domestic issue but a global one. As the embassy noted, “The closure of health institutes for girls and women is a direct challenge to the global commitment to gender equality. This call to action emphasizes that the repercussions of the Taliban’s oppression extend beyond Afghanistan’s borders, undermining global efforts to promote human rights and justice. It is yet to be seen how it impacts the IAG, but the global community, especially the western democracies need to take tangible steps to adhere to international liberal order.

The persistent denial of Afghan women’s education and employment rights has far-reaching consequences. Afghanistan’s future economic and social stability depends on the participation of women in its workforce and educational institutions. In August 2024, a UNESCO report revealed that almost 1.4 million girls in Afghanistan have been banned from schools by IAG. The Taliban’s ban on women’s education and employment is compounded by restrictions on healthcare access. Health institutes specifically designed for women and girls have been closed, leaving millions without vital medical services.

The international community has a moral and ethical obligation to support Afghan women in their fight for justice and equality. Sanctions, diplomatic pressure, and humanitarian aid can be leveraged to push the Taliban to reverse their oppressive policies. International organizations, governments, and activists must provide platforms for Afghan women to share their stories and advocate for change. Media coverage, public campaigns, and diplomatic efforts can help bring global attention to their plight and build pressure on the Taliban to respect women’s rights.

Apart from global responsibilities, there is a dire need for a change of mindset from within. The Taliban must recognize that their policies not only harm Afghanistan’s social and economic fabric but also alienate them in the international community. Continued oppression will result in further isolation, economic sanctions, and loss of humanitarian aid—consequences that will only exacerbate the suffering of ordinary Afghans.
