Pakistani woman Seema Haider, who entered India illegally via Nepal with her children to live with her lover Sachin Meena, has been summoned by a family court in Noida. She has been asked to appear before the court on May 27.

Seema’s Pakistani husband Ghulam Haider had moved to a city court last month through an Indian lawyer, accusing Seema and her partner Sachin Meena of cheating. Seema was married to Ghulam Haider when she crossed over to India along with her four minor children in May 2023 to live with Sachin, whom she claimed to have met while playing the mobile game PUBG.

The couple had later claimed to have gotten married in Kathmandu during an earlier meeting. They also celebrated their first wedding anniversary last month.

Seema’s Pakistani husband, Ghulam Haider, who lives in Karachi, had filed a petition in the family court in Noida, challenging the validity of Seema’s marriage with Sachin. Haider’s legal team had applied the CrPC’s Section 156 (3), which allows a magistrate to order an investigation.

In his petition, Haider has also challenged his children’s religious conversion.

According to an NDTV report, Ghulam Haider’s lawyer Momin Malik has claimed that Seema had not taken divorce from Ghulam Haider and that her marriage with Sachin was not valid.

Ghulam Haider had first approached Ansar Burney, a top Pakistani lawyer and human rights activist Ansar Burney, seeking help in getting custody of his four children.

Ansar Burney then hired an Indian lawyer, Ali Momin and sent him power of attorney to start legal proceedings in Indian courts.

Ghulam Haider was working in Saudi Arabia when his wife Seema came to India via the UAE and Nepal.

Shankhyaneel Sarkar

Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, daughter of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto, took her oath as the member of the Pakistan National Assembly on Monday. She was elected unopposed as an MNA from NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad and succeeded her father President Asif Ali Zardari who vacated the seat last month.

She was accompanied by her brother and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to the Pakistan Parliament. During her oath-taking ceremony, MNAs of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) raised slogans.

Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, the 31-year-old politician, was born in London and has a bachelor’s degree in politics and sociology from Oxford Brookes University and master’s degree in global health and development from University College London.

She was also Pakistan’s ambassador for the national polio eradication campaign. It should be noted that she was administered polio drops by her mother, Benazir Bhutto in 1994 when her mother launched a nationwide immunisation drive to eradicate polio and became the first Pakistani child to be administered polio vaccine as part of the drive.

Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in 2007 by al-Qaeda.

Imran Khan’s PTI leaders were protesting against Aseefa because they alleged that their candidate for NA 207, Ghulam Mustafa Rind was arrested by the Sakrand police and because of this he could not compete against Aseefa which led to her getting elected unopposed.

Aseefa’s sister, Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari, celebrated her sister’s ascent to the new role and said it was a “surreal and proud moment for our family”.

Her party, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), said the occasion was a ‘historic moment’.

PPP Central Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi also called Aseefa’s swearing in a “historic moment for Pakistan’s parliamentary democracy”.

Aseefa played an important role for the PPP in the run-up to the general elections by running an aggressive election campaign for her brother Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other party candidates in Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad and Naushahro Feroze districts.

Sosu launches initiative to economically empower Islamic women in Madina

Apr - 15 - 2024

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Francis Xavier Kojo Sosu, has launched a project to financially empower the Islamic women within the Madina Zongo communities.

The project dubbed “Islamic Women Development Project” is an entrepreneurship initiative that seeks to help the women to earn a living by providing them with free short-to-long term apprenticeship training.

The project which was launched during the “Madina Sallafest celebration” held in Accra on Sunday April 15, 2024, will commence in May 2024.

According to Mr Suso, part of his mandate as the  MP for Madina was to create a platform to empower Muslim women and provide leverage for them to contribute to development of the area.

He said the initiative will therefore provide life-enhancing programmes to empower Muslim women in the constituency.

He stressed that when women are empowered, they feel confident, capable, and become active contributors to socio-economic development of the community.

The MP who expressed concerned about the high rate of poverty in the Zongo Communities said the initiative will help to drastically decrease poverty in those areas after the women have been well equipped with skills.

He further said under the project, Islamic women will be grouped in smaller economic units and giving special training in their different skills.

"Now during the Ramadan, one of things that came out when l visited the various Mosques is the fact that there is the need for us to commit more to the development in Islamic women or women of the Islamic faith.

"So the new project I am developing known as Islamic Women Development Project, this project is going to be used through the Islam project.

"We are going to running all Islamic women and put them into a small economic unit. Those that desire special training, we are going to be training and help them acquire skills that can make them effectively participate in the society.

"And we are putting them together to always ensure that in the next government when His Excellency John Dramani is in-charge, there will be easier to use other economic intervention projects to rich out to the Islamic women," the MP stated.

Iran's Crackdown On Women Intensifies Under Cover Of War

Apr - 15 - 2024

Iranian women are facing tougher crackdowns for refusing to wear the compulsory hijab in the shadows of Iran’s conflict with Israel.

While news of IRGC missile and drone operations against Israel over the weekend has overshadowed other events, on Saturday, as part of what they claim is a "national and public demand," the Iranian police have begun enforcing hijab regulations on women in a new initiative called the Noor plan, Persian for ‘light’.

Morality police are also back on the streets in full force, having been scaled back since the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, with a stronger presence around Tehran’s central districts, full of police patrols, morality vans and police motorcycle patrols.

The 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian died in morality police custody suffering severe head wounds, sparking the strongest uprising against the regime since the founding of the Islamic Republic.

Businesses that do not comply with the regulations may find themselves closed down. Announced by Tehran’s police chief, Abbas Ali Mohammadian, it signals more oppression ahead for Iran’s women and girls.

"From today the police in Tehran, as in other provinces, will implement their measures against this sort of violation of the law regarding hijab," he said on live television on Saturday.

"People who did not pay attention to previous police warnings will be specially warned in the city from today and legal action will be taken against them," he added, just days after supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that women in the Islamic republic must obey the dress code, regardless of their beliefs.

A social media user wrote on X: "As a woman in Iran, the possibility of being killed by morality police is much higher than being killed by the attack of the Israeli army.”

Iran Human Rights reported the increased presence “at major crossings in Tehran”, noting that it is “their most significant show of force since the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising.

Video clips posted on social media also show citizens reporting that their car windows were broken by officers' batons, and others saying that they were assaulted by government motorcyclists as crackdowns worsen under the cover of Iran’s escalating shadow war with Israel.

Reports also suggest vehicles being seized and their owners punished for transporting women without veils. Authorities continue to shut down cafes and restaurants where the hijab rules were not enforced.

The escalating crackdowns on women come alongside Iran’s first direct attack on Israel from Iranian soil.

Over 350 projectiles were launched on Saturday night following the alleged April 1 Israeli air strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus in which two senior IRGC commanders were killed along with several others.

It all comes while Iran’s controversial hijab bill, officially titled "Protection of Family Through Promotion of Hijab and Chastity Culture”, is awaiting approval, but officials have all but begun enacting its draconian regulations. Women now face even greater threat of arrest and punishments including travel bans for hijab defiance.

After initially securing parliamentary approval in September 2023, the draft was rejected for review by the Guardian Council, which is the ultimate legislative authority.
