“Hello, what
investigation are you referring to? I believe that the media has blown this
issue out of proportion, especially channels like Zee News. As for my religious
practices, I have the right to follow my beliefs and practice Namaz or wear a
hijab wherever I choose. No power in the world can stop me from doing so,” the
Muslim woman activist tweeted in Hindi.
Lucknow police
have booked Muslim woman activist Uzma Praveen for offering prayers and posting
its picture on social media.
The matter came
to light on Wednesday after Parveen and human rights activist posted a picture
offering prayers on her Twitter handle.
“A case under
charges of IPC 153 A (promoting enmity), IPC 200 (giving false information),
and IPC 283 (obstruction of public way) 66 IT act has been registered against
Uzma,” said the DCP Central Zone, AparnaRajatKaushik.
The DCP also
said Uzma had falsely shown the place of offering prayers to be Vidhan Bhawan
which is misleading. “Just to create hype on social media.”
Hours the
police action, Praveen tweeted that a mountain is being made out a molehill and
alleged that cops were following the media personnel in doing so. She further
wrote on Twitter that she was following her religion.

Muslims in
Uttar Pradesh have faced repeated incidents of discrimination by the police for
offering prayers, even in private spaces. In the current month of Ramadan
alone, two such incidents have taken place in Moradabad and Noida, where
Muslims were prevented from praying even in their own places.

As many as 4000
families face eviction in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani area after the high court had
ordered the demolition following a Hindu right wing sympathiser approached the
court claiming the Muslim dominant locality is an encroachment on a piece of
Indian Railway land.
Now, the
residents of the locality have moved the Supreme Court challenging the high
court’s order.
The Muslim
residents in the area who have been protesting the demolition move, alleges
that the government is encroaching upon Muslim houses, shops and lands in
Haldwani.
They also
claimed that they have government schools, tanks and registration papers since
generations. “How were these made on railway land?” ask the demonstrators.
On Tuesday, 3
January, the Muslim women in the area staged a protest against the demolition
move. The Muslim women recited poems and prayed during the protest.
The
congregational prayer was performed in Haldwani in view of eviction notices
being served on hundreds of Muslim families. Thousands of children, women and
elders participated in the prayer “for relief”.
Imam of Masjid
Umar, Maulana Mukim Qasmi led the prayer.

Female UN
Employees in Afghanistan Are Being Harassed, Detained: Report
By Fidel
Rahmati
May 10, 2023
The U.N. has
accused the de facto authorities of detaining, harassing, and imposing “severe”
restrictions on the movements of its female employees working with the Agency
in the country.
“This is the
most recent in a series of discriminatory – and unlawful – measures implemented
by the de facto authorities to severely restrict women and girls’ participation
in most areas of public and daily life in Afghanistan,” According to a U.N.
report on the country’s human rights condition in south Asia.
The United
Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) warned in its report that the
measures would have terrible consequences for Afghanistan’s prosperity,
stability, peace and prospects.
“UNAMA is
concerned about increasing restrictions on civic space across Afghanistan,”
said Fiona Frazer, the Agency’s human rights chief.
“Arbitrary
arrests and detention of former government officials and Afghanistan National
Security and Defense Force members also occurred throughout February, March and
April,” added the report.
The Taliban
have been publicly executed, beaten, and stoned since assuming control in
Afghanistan, according to a separate U.N. report that was made public on
Monday. The organization urged the de facto leaders to end these practices.
The Taliban
formerly forbade girls from continuing their education beyond the sixth grade
and excluded them from most public and professional life. They forbade Afghan
women from working for local and non-governmental organizations in December;
this rule did not apply to U.N. agencies at the time.

Telangana cop
booked for assaulting Muslim woman for ‘not giving seat’
MAY 10 2023
Hyderabad, May
10 (IANS) A sub-inspector of police in Telangana’sJagtial town was booked on
Wednesday after he allegedly attacked a Muslim woman travelling in a TSRTC bus.
The police
official also used foul language against her and her faith. Anil Kumar, SI at
Jagtial rural police station, accompanied by some constables, stopped the bus,
and physically assaulted the burka-clad girl.
The SI was
enraged as the girl had refused to vacate the seat for his wife, who was
travelling in the same bus. After the SI’s wife called him, he, along with
police constables, stopped the bus.
The girl
alleged that when she was video recording the incident on her mobile phone, the
SI used foul languages and snatched her phone.

strong protest by the Muslim community in Jagtial demanding action against the
sub-inspector, police booked a case against Anil Kumar and his wife.

the 22-year-old Shaik Fatima, the police booked the SI, his wife and constable

Muslim World
Condemns Taliban’s Restrictions On Women’s Education, Says Blinken
By Fidel
Rahmati
May 10, 2023
US Secretary of
State Antony Blinken said at an event that the Muslim world condemned the
Taliban’s restriction on women’s education in Afghanistan.
“When the
Taliban enacted restrictive bans on higher education for women, governments
from across the Muslim world spoke up to condemn the Taliban’s decision. They
argued that the actions were inhumane and contrary to Islamic beliefs,” Blinken
said.
“Scholars of
Islamic law condemned the Taliban’s actions, too, noting that the Quran gives
the right to education to women and men alike,” he added.
At a reception
honouring Eid Al-Fitr in Washington, D.C., Blinken made the comments.
Meanwhile, the
ban on women’s education by the Taliban has been condemned by several religious
scholars in the country and urging the de facto authorities to reopen the
schools and universities in the country.
Furthermore,
according to religious scholars, rather than being a result of Islamic law, the
Taliban leaders’ decision to forbid girls from attending school led to the ban.
These leaders hold the view that “women should remain at home.”
“Women have the same right as men in Islam,
such as the right to live, the right to work, education, the right to marriage,
travel, economic activities, political activities, the right of presence at
gatherings and others,” said Falz Hadi Wazin, a scholar of religion and member
of the Union of Muslim world’s scholars.
Since the
Taliban banned girls from attending secondary education in Afghanistan, it has
been around 600 days. Additionally, the group has prohibited Afghan women and
girls from pursuing higher education in the county.
Meanwhile,
since last December, the de facto authorities banned female aid workers from
working with the international community.
Despite
overwhelming worldwide condemnation and criticism, the Taliban has not changed
its position regarding restricting Afghan women’s employment and education.
