Corsica has been left reeling after five people were injured in riots between north Africans and locals on the French, Mediterranean island, apparently sparked when tourists took photos of several Muslim women bathing in burkinis. In response to the initial violence, which saw cars burned during the confrontation between young locals and the families of North African origin, 500 gathered near Bastia, the capital of the Bagnaja region, some of them attempting to march upon the city's North African and Muslim districts.

The dispute centred around three families and young locals, according to statements from prosecutors.

According to reports in the local.fr and one point during the fray two people were injured after they were shot with a harpoon.

One witness who saw the clashes in the northern part of the island at Sisco and then later attended the rally in the capital said stones and bottles were thrown at a group of young Corsicans aged 15 to 18 on the beach.

The young Corsicans' families then took to the streets, setting alight the North Africans' cars, turning them over and slashing their tyres.

Finally, 100 police had to be deployed to head-off the violence. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve condemned the attacks, and pledged a full investigation "to shed light on these intolerable deeds and to arrest those responsible". At present no arrests have been made in connection with the violence.

The clashes come amid increasing tensions particularly in southern France between the Muslim and wider community. On 14 July 86 people were killed in the city of Nice, in an attack that was later claimed by the Islamic State.

In December Corsican protesters vandalised a Muslim prayer hall and destroyed copies of the Koran after an assault on firefighters that was blamed on local youths of Arab origin

ISIS Recruiting Volunteer Female “Sex Jihadists” to Service Fighters

August 15, 2016

The Islamic State has stepped up recruitment of so-called “sex jihadists” – volunteer female ISIS supporters who “strengthen the warriors’ family life” by providing sex and children.

ISIS is apparently increasing recruitment efforts through social media, posting pictures of female jihadists who sing the praises of “family life” under the Islamic caliphate and highlight the importance of producing children to continue the jihad into the future, reported Breitbart.

According to the ISIS advertisements, the sex jihadists, who are sympathetic to the radical Islamic cause, get great “satisfaction” from “providing the male warrior with the family life he yearns for.”

The women are formally married to ISIS fighters in order to give sexual comfort between battles, but are sometimes passed around between men with the permission of their husbands.

However, an Egyptian surveillance unit which has issued warnings against the recruitment attempts says that the women are really just sex slaves.

Recruits who wish to sign up go through a tough screening process, said the watchdog unit. Women must be between 18-25 years of age. They are offered a monthly stipend of 25,000 Egyptian pounds – about $50 dollars – in exchange for their services.

Women who heed the call, especially western women, are often attempting to “atone” for for their past promiscuity, said the surveillance unit.

On the other side of the spectrum are the thousands of women and children who have been forcibly kidnapped or captured and forced into ISIS’s well-established system of sex slavery. Sex slaves, who are sometimes traded in open markets or through social media, are often tortured, raped and killed by ISIS militants.

2 girls equipped with suicide vests killed in East of Afghanistan

Mon Aug 15 2016

female suicide bombers killed in AfghanistanTwo young girls equipped with suicide bombing vests were killed during an operation in eastern Nuristan province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Monday.

According to a statement by MoD, the two young girls were among 27 killed during the operations conducted in Want Waigal district.

The statement further added that 31 others were also wounded during the same operations.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far and it is yet not clear which group had recruited the two young girls for the suicide attack.

Nuristan is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its remote districts.

The province is located near the Durand Line close to the tribal regions of Pakistan and is also home to several hundreds of foreign insurgents including the Pakistani militants.

This comes as the Taliban militants launched a coordinated attack on Want Waigal district in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The coordinated attack by the Taliban militants forced the provincial government to request for additional forces in a bid to repulse the Taliban attack.

Kyrgyzstan president says Islamic dress radicalises women

Monday, 15 August 2016

Kyrgyzstan’s president has reportedly tried to dissuade women in the country from wearing Islamic dress due to concerns they could become radicalised.

“Our women have been wearing miniskirts since 1950s, and they never thought about wearing an explosive belt,” Almazbek Atambayev was quoted saying at a press conference last week.

His comments came following a government-sponsored campaign to discourage the country’s women from wearing the hijab, niqab and burka.

Banners are said to have been erected across the country showing women in the nation’s traditional clothing next to those clad in niqabs and burkas with the caption: “Poor people! Where are we heading to?”

The banners attracted outrage in the country, where 80 per cent of the population is Muslim, with some arguing the traditional ‘elchek’ headdress is almost as conservative as the hijab.

Others pointed to the wearing of miniskirts as being less inline with the country’s values, prompting the president’s comments.

“You can wear even tarpaulin boots on your head, but do not organise bombings. This is not religion,” he was quoted as saying.

“Let them wear even miniskirts but there must not be any blasts.”

The president went on to say how clothes can “changes one’s thoughts” and described an incident where the government was searching for escapees from a detention centre and found their wives and mistresses were trying to organise bombings.

“If you do not like Kyrgyzstan you can leave our country and go wherever you want,” he said. “We can pay your travel expenses, even to Syria.”

An estimated 350 Kyrgyz citizens are fighting with Islamic groups in the Syrian war.

Atambayev previously expressed concerns in 2014 of the “Arabisation” of society at the expense of the country’s language and traditions.

Women have a role to play in Islam - Ahmadiyya Leader « PrevNext »Comments (2)

Monday, 15 August 2016

The worldwide spiritual leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Hazrat Amirul Momineen Khalifatul Masih V, has asked the Islamic community to move away from the mind-set of undermining the capabilities of women.

He intimated that it was important to recognise the role women played in world affairs for which reason he underscored the need for Muslims to accord other Muslim women the needed respect and dignity.

Addressing Ahmadi Muslim women at the 50th convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, popularly known as Jalsa Salana in Hampshire in the United Kingdom on Saturday, Hazrat Masih V said women had a role to play in Islam and as such should be recognised.

The Jalsa Salana which ended Sunday, brought together more than 35,000 delegates from over 90 countries including the Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih.

Dignify women

Hazrat Masih V deplored the manner Muslim women were undermined and undignified adding that it was time to move away from the status quo that placed women in second fiddle positions in society.

He stated the Holy Quran frowned on stifling the efforts of women and spoke against the manner in which the scriptures were ignored in the pursuit of ‘man-made laws’.

The spiritual leader bemoaned the segregation between men and women in other parts of the world especially usurping rights of women which he described as unacceptable.

Religious violence

Touching on religious violence, Hazrat Masih V condemned the act of creating disorder in society in the name of religion adding that “those who deprive women their rights and cause violence in the name of Islam will be punished.”

For him the rights and dignity of women in Islam were well established and the religion accorded them a special status.

Hazrat Masih V presented awards to some Ahmadi student women enrolled in tertiary institutions in the UK who excelled in various academic fields.

Austrian far-right presidential hopeful Norbert Hofer calls for burqa ban

August 15, 2016

A far-right politician who is favourite to become the next president of Austria has proposed banning the burqa.

Norbert Hofer lost the last presidential election to his Green-backed opponent, Alexander Van der Bellen, by a small margin in May, but the vote will be repeated in October because of counting irregularities.

Mr Hofer was asked about religious clothing such as the burqa, worn by some Muslim women to cover their faces, during an interview with Austrian tabloid Öesterreich.

He responded: “I think [a ban] makes sense,”

He also promised to take Austria out of the European Union if Turkey is allowed to join.

Mr Hofer called for an inquiry into how a demonstration of 5,000 Turkish residents in Vienna was able to take place after the failed coup in Turkey.

The anti-Muslim and Eurosceptic Freedom party (FPO) candidate is ahead in the latest poll by the  Öesterreich newspaper – with 52 per cent of the vote compared to Mr Van der Bellen’s 48 per cent share.

The poll showed 57 per cent of the 600 respondents cited Hofer’s personality as the most important factor in their decision, followed closely by “protection from terror” at 56 per cent and having a “more stringent asylum policy” at 55 per cent.

Mr Hofer's tough stance on immigration and fondness for carrying a 9mm Glock pistol, which he has brandished at rallies, have lead him to be dubbed "Austria's Donald Trump".

Although Austria's presidency is a ceremonial post, Mr Hofer said he will try to extend Presidential powers if he wins.

Earlier in August a German interior minister proposed a ban on burqas in response to growing concerns about safety after a string of violent incidents in the country.

In France, the burqa has been banned in France since 2010. The Mayor of Cannes also banned burkinis, full body swimsuits worn my Muslim women, from Riviera beaches.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The Immigration Department’s enforcement of a directive preventing Muslims from hiring non-Muslims as maids is drawing criticism from agencies, which said the rule hurts the prospects of Muslims in need of domestic help.

Questioning why an employee’s faith should be of any concern, Malaysian Maid Employers Association (MAMA) president Engku Ahmad Fauzi said the rule would heavily limit the candidates that Muslim families may hire.

“Religion should not be an obstacle. When you work in an office, you don’t base it on religion and likewise, this should not be the case for the maid in the home,” he was quoted as saying to local news portal The Star Online.

Quoting two anonymous maid agency owners, the portal reported that all those applying for non-Muslim domestic helpers for Muslim employers had their applications rejected allegedly due to the policy that only allows Muslim maids to work for Muslim employers.

The owner of one maid agency in Selangor was told that the directive has always been in place, despite her insisting that she was never informed of the new policy.

“If they did not allow Muslims to hire non-Muslims from the beginning, why did they allow it earlier?

“There was no circular to inform us about this,” she was quoted as saying.

Another maid agency owner in Kuala Lumpur said, however, that the policy was not new, but noted that previous directors-general of the department had been flexible “depending on the situation,” The Star Online reported.

The current D-G is Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, who was transferred from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the start of August.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in June announced that the government bring in more Cambodians to work as domestic helpers, a sector that has been dominated by Indonesians previously.

Malaysia has been struggling to cope with dwindling supply to meet the increasing demands for domestic helpers, an industry that had previously been filled by Indonesian migrant workers.

However, Jakarta has since tightened its regulations on sending its citizens abroad to work as maids after widespread cases of abuse at the hands of their foreign employers.

Indonesia had temporarily banned its citizens from working as maids here, but later lifted the moratorium after negotiating new terms with Putrajaya that included higher wages and better protection.
