Station Tangi received information that in Ziarat village, Alam Syed, son of

Mehrunnisa
Shukat Ali: India's First Lady Bouncer Who Employs 2500 Women
19-06-2024
Born
in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Mehrunnisa Shaukat Sheikh is India’s first female
bouncer who employs about 2500 people in her Delhi-based company Mardaani
Bouncer and Dolphin Security Service Private Limited.
Speaking
with Awaz-The Voice, Mehrunnisa said, "My childhood in a conservative
Muslim family was not like that of most Muslim girls. My father did not want
the girls of the house to study as he was afraid that if they get educated,
they will do what they want."
Mehrunnisa,
36, was born as the third among seven siblings. She faced poverty from the very
beginning as her's was a large family with limited income. Her mother wanted
the girls to be educated and she fought with her husband and get Mehrunnisa and
her sisters enrolled in Islamia Girls School.
Mehnnisa
graduated in Hindi Honours from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
Speaking
on the phone, Mehrunnisa said that after her father's business suffered losses,
he suffered a heart attack. He was shifted to Delhi for treatment. It was here
that Mehrunnisa saw a male bouncer for the first time. She took the bouncer as
an Army man and she too wanted to join the Army.
Mehrunnisa
came to Delhi in 2003. At that time, bouncers were not offered permanent jobs.
There was no concept of female bouncers. At an event, Mehrunnisa asked a male
bouncer for a job. Seeing Mehrunnisa's physique, he hired her.
For
the next five years, Mehrunnisa traveled daily from Saharanpur to Delhi without
informing her family to work as a female bouncer in events. She received Rs 250
as daily wages. Soon Mehrunnisa was working in the high end Hauz Khas of South
Delhi.
A
journalist noticed Mehrunnisa and he wrote about India’s first female bouncer
who provides security to women at clubs and events.
Mehrunnisa
opened a company named Mardani Bouncer and Dolphin Security Service Private
Limited in 2010. She wanted to change the perception about and the working
conditions of women bouncers.
She
had experienced that, male bouncers do not treat women with dignity and at par.
As the bouncers' job is mostly at night, female bouncers are always worried
about their security. The owners of companies do not provide 'pick up' and
'drop off' facilities to them.
She
said earlier, lady bouncers were referred to as guards. “I protested at this
and this led to the women being called lady bouncers.”
She
says she wants to get due recognition, dignity, and remuneration for the lady
bouncers.
“Through
'Mardaani Bouncer' I want to train the lady bouncers in martial arts so that
they can protect themselves and the women better. Most of the lady bouncers
have no martial arts training.”
Mehrunnisa
says, "There are a lot of difficulties in running the company right now.
Some big people don't want my company to grow because of the inherent bias
against women. I have to struggle to find work for my trainees."
She
received the country's first bouncer award from Rani Mukherjee in the women's
program of Hindustan Times newspaper. The India Book of Records has also
honored her as a female bouncer. Similarly, in 2021, Mehrunnisa was honored by
Swati Maliwal, former Women's Commission Chairperson in the Kejriwal government,
as the country's first female bouncer

Five
Kashmiri women pilgrims die due to ‘heatstroke’ in Saudi Arabia
June
18, 2024
Srinagar,
Jun 18: As the Hajj 2024 pilgrimage nears completion, five women pilgrims from
Kashmir have reportedly died due to heat stroke in Arafat and Muzdalifa, said
an official on Tuesday.
A
senior Jammu and Kashmir Hajj Officer informed the news agency—Kashmir News
Observer (KNO) that the extreme temperatures experienced during the pilgrimage
have taken a toll on the health of several pilgrims.
“The
temperature has been soaring, and unfortunately, five lady pilgrims from Kashmir
have succumbed to heat stroke in Arafat and Muzdalifa of which four are from
Srinagar and one from district Kulgam. The death certificates are yet to be
issued,” the official stated.
The
official said that during the ongoing holy pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia,
temperatures even soared to a scorching 48°C, saying that despite hot weather
conditions, pilgrims persevered in performing their religious duties.
The
official said the deceased pilgrims were accompanied by their relatives, and it
has been confirmed that they will be buried in Makkah.
According
to the officials, this year, over 7000 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir
undertook the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina.
Of
these, approximately 6800 pilgrims departed through the Srinagar embarkation
point, while over 500 pilgrims traveled from other airports.

Swara
Bhaskar Predicts New Wave Of Backlash, Says Attacks On Interfaith Couples Won’t
End Soon
June
19, 2024
Actor
Swara Bhaskar spoke about the trolling she had to face because she married a
Muslim man. She said that interfaith couples will have to face such backlash
for the foreseeable future, as she spoke about the trolling that Sonakshi Sinha
and Zaheer Iqbal have been facing ahead of their wedding on June 23. The couple
is reportedly organising a party for their friends and families in the evening,
after completing legal formalities earlier. Sonakshi and Zaheer’s wedding has
drawn further attention for her family’s non-committal statements.
In
an interview with Connect Cine, Swara Bhasker, who herself experienced social
media backlash when she tied the knot with activist Fahad Ahmad, spoke about
how common such a thing is for interfaith couples. “One of the biggest myths of
modern India is ‘love jihad’, where a Hindu girl marries a Muslim man. This
applies to me as well,” she said. “An interfaith couple can actually get beaten
up in certain cities on Valentine’s Day.”
Asked
about Sonakshi and Zaheer’s relationship in particular, she said, “Lots of
experts offered their opinions during my wedding as well. But we’re talking
about two consenting adults here. What they do in their private lives, whether
they get married or not, it’s up to them. It’s nobody’s business if they’re
living together, getting married in a court, or having a nikaah, or an Arya
Samaj wedding. It’s between the man and the woman, and their families. It’s
Sonakshi’s life; she’s chosen her partner. Her partner has chosen her. Now it’s
between them and their families. I find this a very time-waste debate.”
Swara
said that such conversations are more prevalent in India and South Asian
countries, where people enjoy sticking their noses in other people’s business.
“Wait and watch, when they have a child, there will be a separate debate around
the child’s name. We’ve seen it happen with Kareena and Saif’s kids, and with
my kid. It’s completely idiotic, but this isn’t going to end anytime soon,” she
said.

Iran
Slaps One-Year Prison Term On Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Narges Mohammadi
June
18, 2024
TEHRAN:
An Iranian court has sentenced Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to a
year in prison for “propaganda against the state,” the jailed activist’s lawyer
said on Tuesday.
Mohammadi,
52, has been jailed since November 2021 over several past convictions relating
to her advocacy against the obligatory hijab for women and capital punishment
in Iran.
Lawyer
Mostafa Nili said on X that “Mohammadi was sentenced to one year in prison for
propaganda against the system.”
Nili
said “the reasons for issuing this sentence” include calls to boycott
parliamentary elections, letters to Swedish and Norwegian lawmakers and
“comments about Mrs.DinaGhalibaf.”
Rights
groups have said that Ghalibaf, a journalist and student, had been taken into
custody after accusing security forces on social media of putting her in
handcuffs and sexually assaulting her during a previous arrest at a metro
station. Ghalibaf has since been released.
The
Iranian judiciary’s Mizan Online website said on April 22 that Ghalibaf “had
not been raped” and that she was being prosecuted for making a “false
statement.”
Iranian
police have intensified enforcement of
the country’s dress code for women.
