Quranic recitation during Karnataka Temple Festival as hardcore Hindu outfits
opposed.
Alas, an
age-old tradition of bonhomie and secularism was forcibly stopped by the
fanatics.
With a
heavy heart, I remember Sahir Ludhianvi’s immortal lines from his iconic song, 'Tu
Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega' from the movie 'Dhool Ka Phool '
(1959)....' "Qura'an Na Ho Jis Mein Woh Mandir Nahin Tera, Geeta Na Ho
Jis Mein Woh Haram Tera Nahin Hai " (That temple cannot be called a
temple that doesn't have a copy of the Qur'an and that mosque is no mosque if
it disallows Geeta)! What a sublime thought expressed by an avowed atheist 64
years ago!
And look at
the state of current India under a completely skewed government. All these
uneducated Hindu (as well as Muslim) fanatics should know that Maulvi Mahesh
Prasad (yes, he was called a Maulvi for his stupendous command of Arabic and
Islamic scriptures) recited Geeta and Quran at temples and mosques in Lahore
and when Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya invited him to teach Urdu, Persian and
Arabic at the newly- founded BHU, he came and taught but continued to teach and
recite Quran at temples in Banaras, Lucknow and Faizabad. Premchand wrote about
him, 'Ganga-Jamuna Tahzeeb Ka Iss-Se Behtar Namoona Aur Kya Ho Sakta Hai Ke
Ek Hindu (Maulvi Mahesh Prasad) Masjidon Mein Quran Ki Aayatein Padhata
Hai?'
No Hindu or
Muslim ever protested. Meena Kumari appointed a Hindu Pandit for teaching Quran
to Kamal Amrohi's son. Shaista Noor of Bijnaur was teaching the nuances of
Geeta's shlokas, that too at temples!
But things
have changed drastically under the current political dispensation. Now Muslims
and Islam are being systematically lobotomised from the anatomy of Hindu India.
Mughal history of more than 300 years has already been removed and dumped.
No wonder,
Karnataka temple didn't allow Quranic recitation on its premise and put a finis
to a long-held tradition that boasted of inclusiveness.
