Abrogation in Quran, Part-3 مسائل تنسیخ ؛ چند بنیادی مباحث
    Misbahul Huda, New Age Islam

Mobility Levels for African Americans in US Are Better Than Those for Muslims in India
    Seema Chishti

On Muslims, defined as the “least upwardly mobile group in India”, the paper makes the damning claim that the situation is worse than that of African Americans. In the US, while those born at the bottom half of an education distribution on average tends to get to the 34th percentile, Muslims can expect to only get to the 28th, something they term as “really low.”...

Wahhabism Has To Be Challenged, To Prevent More Terrorist Incidents, So That Muslims All Around the World Can Achieve Better Lives
    Ken Livingstone

The history of Saudi Arabia spreading intolerance throughout the Muslim world goes back almost a century. Wahhabism represents the most hard-line and intolerant interpretation of Islam. It originated in 1744 and was founded by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. The survivors of Wahhabism formed an alliance with Ibn Saud, the first king of the modern Saudi state. Throughout the 19th century, Wahhabism had been overwhelmingly rejected by the vast majority of Muslims and its only real influence was in Arabia....

The Judeo-Islamic Tradition Has Deep Historical Roots That Zionism and Islamism Have Tried To Erase: Yum Kippur and Ashura
    Hamid Dabashi

From Saadia Gaon (882-942) to Yehuda Halevi (1075-1141) to Maimonides (1135-1204), the leading luminaries of Jewish philosophy were in enduring conversation with their Muslim counterpart - Avicenna (980-1037), Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (1058-1111) and Averroes (1126-1198).  This Judeo-Islamic philosophical tradition was real and not created out of any political convenience or necessity. Today, militant Zionism, puritanical Islamism and evangelical imperialism are collectively invested in concealing these historical facts and either denying or else catapulting the profound heritage of Judeo-Islamic philosophy back into "ancient times"....

Darul Qaza like Institutions Should Be Allowed to Come up To Resolve Petty Issues
    Abdul Wasey

The system of Darul Qaza, which has been in existence since the advent of Islam, was introduced in India by Mughals and was used to resolve issues and disputes involving Muslims until 1864. When Britishers came to power, they stopped appointing Qazis (equivalent to judges) to these judicial institutions. In 1921, a renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Abul Mohsin Sajjad tried to revive the practice at personal level in Bihar. In its present form in India, Darul Qaza is more like a counselling centre to resolve small disputes as it does not have any power or authority to punish the culprits....

    Islam and the West

Although the history of the Dargah continues to draw me to Ajmer, there is something else that brought me there the first time and called me back a second time. You may call it faith or devotion, or perhaps a sacred longing, a desire to be close to the Khwaja himself, a beautiful reflection of holiness revered by Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains as well as by Christians. It is a place where sanctity is sought and celebrated over sectarianism, where religious distinctions and differences vanish. It is a place where the words of Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273) resonate:

What can I do my friends, if I do not know? I am neither Christian nor Jew, not Muslim nor Hindu. What can I do? What can I do? … One I seek, One I know, One I see, One I call…

Governments have a history of capitulating to religious lobbies in their quest for vote banks. This includes every shade of government. In my personal recall, the use of gender as bait began with Shah Bano in 1986. Cut to 2014 and the NDA sweep with its avowed anti-Muslim agenda. The best weapon to kill Muslims other than by lynching and torture was to show them as gross violators of women’s rights. Since 2014, words like Triple Talaq, Nikah Halala, and Polygamy etc. have been bandied around with scant understanding of their meaning....

Lost Legacy of Female Scholars of Islam
    Moin Qazi, New Age Islam

The reforms that took place in the early years of Islam were clearly progressive, changing with the needs of society; however, the more detailed rules that were laid out by the classical jurists only allowed many pre-Islamic customs to continue. These rules reflected the needs, customs and expectations of the society in which they lived, not the progressive reforms that were started during the time of Muhammad. Hence, the trajectory of reform which began at the time of Muhammad was halted in the medieval period through the further elaboration of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), which was then selectively codified in the 19th and 20th centuries....

Why are Muslim Leaders and Clerics So Afraid of Feminism and Critical of the West?
Mushtaq Ul Haq Ahmad Sikander, New Age Islam

The deep-rooted prejudices against West and Feminism have been embedded over the last century deeply in the Muslim mind and it will certainly take decades to de-condition the same. But this point needs to be emphasized that not everything Western civilisation and the ideals of Feminism uphold need be accepted in toto. West and Feminism are dynamic and static concepts. They are not the same today as our older generation of Islamic revivalists understood them during colonization....

Quranic Method of Cognition of Realities
Kazi Wadud Nawaz, New Age Islam

The basic principles of Islamic Faith, religious ethics, social and family laws and all verses related to Allah's Attributes or ‘Sifat' belong to the category of clear and comprehensible verses (Ayat-e-Muhkamat). Qur'anic verses that point to the miraculous events of the unseen occurring in the worldly life under direct divine intervention beyond the cognitive ability of mankind belong to the category of incomprehensible verses. (Ayat-e-Mutashabihaat) The visible world forms the foundation of the clear and comprehensible domain of the Holy Qur'an (Ayat-e-Muhkamaat) that finds its extension in incomprehensible and non-visible reality (al-Ghayeb) reflected by the allegorical domain of the Holy Qur'an (Ayat-e-Mutashabihaat)....

    The Language of the Quran
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

The word Islam and Muslim have a broad meaning in the Quran and these words do not mean that Islam is only the religion of the followers of Muhammad or that Muslim only means those who accept Muhammad as the Messenger of God. Verse 22:78 “It is Allah Who has named you Muslims, both before and in this (Revelation)”. The followers of all previous prophets are also Muslim which is why the verse 2:112 cited above, covers a broad spectrum of people.   However, the common understanding among both the followers of Muhammad and others, is that only the religion brought by Muhammad is Islam and only his followers are Muslim. This common understanding is exploited by the bigots to claim that only the religion taught by Muhammad is Islam and only this religion is the true religion and accepted by God and all others will be the losers.....

    Islamic Ideology

The verse 60:8, according to the accepted view of majority of scholars, is Muhkam and not abrogated. This verse encourages the Muslims not to treat all the people from among non-Muslims including Mushrikin and Kafirin as enemies. It means Allah does not forbid Muslims to be good to those non-Muslims including Mushrikin and Kafirin who really do not fight Muslims in matters of religion and live in peace and justice with Muslims....

    The Exigency of Muslim Reform
Syed N Asad, New Age Islam

The fundamental idea that will help Muslims is that the change is an inevitable part of life. Islam became a global religion because the way Prophet Muhammad taught its principles made his contemporaries into enlightened and empowered people. They became more just in their dealings with others, valued learning, welcomed strangers, discarded superstitions, removed ethnic and racial barriers, gave greater rights to oppressed classes such as women and slaves, their worship was direct and charismatic, and as a result of this dynamism their influence spread all over the known world. Reform means recognizing that the universal empowering teachings of Islam can be expressed successfully according to the maxims of every age....

'Make Revolutionary Changes in the Islamic Theology of Consensus to Fight Jihadism': Sultan Shahin Asks Muslim Nations at UNHRC in Geneva
Sultan Shahin, Founding Editor, New Age Islam

Sixteen years after 9/11, the issue of Jihadi terrorism has become even more complex and widespread.

First, though Jihadism is a violent offshoot of Wahhabism and Salafism, the international community has allowed the fountainhead of Wahhabi/Salafi ideology to continue to spend tens of billions of dollars to Wahhabise the world Muslim community.

Second, we recently saw with horror, but without any protest from the international community, the sight of a UN-designated terrorist, with a ten-million-dollar bounty on his head, launch a political party and nominate another US-designated terrorist to contest democratic elections in Pakistan. Apparently, some countries can ignore UN directives with impunity.

Third, the Muslim community has failed to grasp that Jihadism spread so rapidly around the world because at its core it is not very different from the theology of consensus that informs the religious beliefs and practices of all Muslim sects. That is why Jihadis are not impressed when we Muslims either proclaim that Islam is a religion of peace and pluralism or when we try to wash our hands off Jihadism by claiming that it has nothing to do with Islam. If we Muslims want to live as honourable citizens in the 21st century’s globalised world, we must rethink our consensus theology in all its dimensions and make revolutionary changes to bring it in line with the needs of present times....
