By Being Truly Good Muslims Will We Realize Our Desired Coherent Muslim Society
    Mohammed Nosseir

Our erroneous practice of Islam is the reason behind the poor image many non-Muslims have of it. Muslims’ true dilemma lies in their desire to impose, literally, the teachings of our idealistic holy book on universal citizens. Actually, by working on ourselves as individuals, we will realize the perfect Islamic society that we desire — without using force.

“Whoever wills let him believe. And whoever wills, let him disbelieve” and “whoever is guided is only guided for (the benefit of) himself” are two explicit verses from the Holy Qur’an explaining that belief is a personal, liberal choice made by individuals for their own benefit....

    Luavut Zahid

The PML-N has spent the last few months adding fuel to the “Mujhe Kyun Nikala?” fire. And it is a slogan that practically came gift wrapped from the Supreme Court. Instead of having to answer for corruption, the original Panama verdict helped Nawaz tell the world he was ousted for not taking money from his own son – not corruption. Building on this, the party has infused the public with the idea that the Sharifs are being targeted because they are trying to change the system and beat the status quo....

Islam Is a Universal Religion, Not an Arab Tribal Ideology: Muslims Should Be More Open In Their Engagement with Modernity
    Dr Sabrina Lei

My Gita translation project is very much rooted in the classical Muslim tradition of learning and inquiry. I am a practising Muslim, and moreover a convert who accepted Islam after so many years of study; I consider the Gita as one of the finest forms of human reflections on God and various questions related to the spiritual life of human beings. In the Gita, we can see the stress on knowledge (Ilm in Arabic), devotion (Taqwa) the good action (Amal Al-Salih) as the path to knowing God. Of course, Islam approaches the path to God through the principle of Tawhid or an uncompromising belief in the oneness of God; however, as a Muslim, I can see the spark of Tawhid in the Gita, as Al-Biruni pointed out over a thousand years ago....

It Is Completely Wrong To Say That in Islam Blasphemy Is a Crime That Merits Capital Punishment
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan New Age Islam

There is no such sentence in the Quran or in the Hadith. So, this claim that a person who blasphemes the Prophet should be killed is based entirely on Qiyas or Ijtihad. But, as pointed out earlier, in this matter, Qiyas and Ijtihad are not enough. For such a claim there must be a Nass, a textual reference in the Quran or Hadith, to support it, but since there is no such clear Nassin either of these two sources, it is completely wrong to say that in Islam blasphemy is a crime that merits capital punishment. The claim that blasphemy is a crime that merits capital punishment is the opinion of some Fuqaha or scholars of Muslim jurisprudence, but the mere opinion of these scholars is not enough to validate this claim of theirs....

Islam and Mysticism: What Else Is Confused With Soul? (Part 3)
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

What we have clearly seen, is that neither Ruh nor Nafs mean “soul” in the Quran, and there is no other word in the Quran that means “soul” by its primary meaning. This article once again demonstrates the methodology for arriving at a correct understanding of the Quran without ambiguity, even when the scholars and the translators, all the imams and the Mufassereen, and the beliefs that we have grown up with, are all wrong. That is the strength of the Quran. ....

Thus striking down triple divorce as unconstitutional or holding it un-Islamic in itself will not help. We must educate people and the Board must ensure that all divorces henceforth happen as per the Quranic procedure. Stemming the Ever Rising Tide of Islamophobia in America by Removing Misperceptions
    Muhammad Yunus, New Age Islam

In the perception of many Americans who are, if anything, more afraid of Islam today than before, the Sharia Law is inhuman and a threat to American civilization and must be banned. The perception, based on Islamophobic literature is reinforced by ISIS’s justification of its horrendous crimes by the Sharia Law of Islam. The American Muslims on the other hand glorify Sharia Law of Islam as a treasure-chest of noble rulings, without realizing that in the hands of the terror outfits and their ideologues of this era it has lost all its nobility and became an evil institution that is justifiably dreaded and abhorred by the lay Americans...

    Islamic Ideology

The Qur’an as a whole, including all of its aspects and traits, is a miracle that no one other than God can compose. Emphasising the eloquence of Qur’an essentially reduces it to a literary masterpiece or a work of art. This is far from the whole purpose of the Qur’an. The Book is certainly a literary miracle, but that should be thought of as a secondary feature and a by-product of the real theme of God’s Book. Furthermore, the Qur’an is a miracle for all mankind, in all places and at all times...

So the Muslims of the world – especially its leaders and educated elite must clearly understand the black and white distinction between ‘Sharia of Islam’ and the ‘Sharia Law of Islam’ (‘Islamic Law’) as this paper attempts to expound in very simple but compelling terms - otherwise they will live in perpetual confusion and chaos and allow a handful of proponents of Sharia Law to form mini-Caliphates, terrorize the whole world and create mayhems in their own lands.....

    Hassam Munir

In the Qur’ān, Muslims are reminded that “[t]here shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion [of Islam]” (2:256). Classical commentators on the Qur’ān, such as the famous Ismā‘īl ibn Kathīr (d. 1373), and more recent ones such as Sayyid Qutb (d. 1966) and Mawdūdī (d. 1979) are in agreement that this passage forbids any form of coercing non-Muslims into embracing Islam. [1] However, many (if not most) of the people who express curiosity about whether Islam spread “by the sword” are interested in whether this is a historical reality....

Islam and Mysticism: Is ‘Ruh’ Soul? (Part 2)
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

The Quran has come by inspiration to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The verse also says that what has come by inspiration is not all “mystical” knowledge, but only a little. However, another verse 5:3 says “This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion”. The primary purpose of the revelation was therefore to give mankind the complete Deen or the Islamic way of life, while also giving us a little of the “mystical” knowledge on a need to know basis or to the extent we are capable of understanding using similitudes or allegorical language....

The Muslim clerics may have a valid reason to disassociate Islam from such audio messages, but their silence and failure to condemn it in strong terms may give the impression to the common people in the community that they are not against it. Thus, these former Zoroastrians became sympathetic to this new sect that attracted political and spiritual dissidents. The new sect had some eclectic ideas drawn from Greek Philosophy, Neo Platonic, Gnosticism, Zoroastrian messianic tradition and Christianity. So it was able to provide with an alternative that resembled their former belief system. For example, the belief about the sanctity of the blood of house of David resembled the concept of the sanctity of the Imam, a direct descendent from the blood line of the progeny of Ali and Fatima.  This also bears a resemblance to the Christian idea that “the Messiah has arisen from the sacred blood.”...

But it will not take a great deal of reflection to realize that the above questions are no less relevant for this era than they were in the era of revelation. 'Make Revolutionary Changes in the Islamic Theology of Consensus to Fight Jihadism': Sultan Shahin Asks Muslim Nations at UNHRC in Geneva
Sultan Shahin, Founding Editor, New Age Islam

Sixteen years after 9/11, the issue of Jihadi terrorism has become even more complex and widespread.

First, though Jihadism is a violent offshoot of Wahhabism and Salafism, the international community has allowed the fountainhead of Wahhabi/Salafi ideology to continue to spend tens of billions of dollars to Wahhabise the world Muslim community.

Second, we recently saw with horror, but without any protest from the international community, the sight of a UN-designated terrorist, with a ten-million-dollar bounty on his head, launch a political party and nominate another US-designated terrorist to contest democratic elections in Pakistan. Apparently, some countries can ignore UN directives with impunity.

Third, the Muslim community has failed to grasp that Jihadism spread so rapidly around the world because at its core it is not very different from the theology of consensus that informs the religious beliefs and practices of all Muslim sects. That is why Jihadis are not impressed when we Muslims either proclaim that Islam is a religion of peace and pluralism or when we try to wash our hands off Jihadism by claiming that it has nothing to do with Islam. If we Muslims want to live as honourable citizens in the 21st century’s globalised world, we must rethink our consensus theology in all its dimensions and make revolutionary changes to bring it in line with the needs of present times....
