Historicity and Religious Sanctity of Architecture in Islam: Muslim Extremists’ Cultural War is against the Core Islamic Principles (Part 2)
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

It is a marvellous part of the cultural legacy of Islam that it exhorted its adherents to respect the norms and values of all other faith communities. This is best reflected in the nature and styles of Muslim architecture. It should be noted that embracing the positive values of the local people especially in the architecture and crafts does not go against the principles of Islam. When Muslims chanced to rule lands stretching from present-day Spain in the west to India in the east, and from present-day Turkey in the north to sub-Saharan Africa in the south, they built magnificent monuments taking into account the local norms and shared history of the native communities. .. But what the present-day Islamist zealots, particularly Daesh or ISIS, are doing by their cultural destruction in Iraq and Syria is not difficult to see. They have waged a war against the core faith of pious Muslim predecessors, the Salaf-e-Saleh whom they loudly claim to follow......

Tackling Wahhabi Destruction of Islamic Heritage: Mainstream Muslims Need To Struggle to Preserve the Historic Legacy of Islam
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

There has been stiff opposition to the violent display of cultural destruction by Salafi-Wahhabi extremists throughout the Muslim world, but sadly, though not unexpectedly; it has not been fully voiced in Muslim media, particularly in the Indian Urdu press which remained hostile towards any criticism of the Wahhabi misdeeds. Even an issue such as the destruction of Islamic heritage has taken a sectarian hue. Several eminent Sunni-Sufi Shaikhs, moderate Islamic scholars and Sufi-oriented Muslim leaders came out with vehement verbal and written opposition and stern condemnation of the recent destruction of the Islamic historic heritage, particularly the proposal to remove the Prophet’s tomb. But while a tiny number of very local and limited Urdu publications gave them space, not a single leading Urdu publication, newspaper, magazine or any other Indian Muslim media outlets considered them worthy of media coverage……

Radical Clerics Misusing Islamic Literature, Particularly Hadith Traditions, to Further Nefarious Ends: Time for Mainstream Ulema to Wake Up and Refute!
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

The extremist scholars are constantly on the lookout for all such Islamic texts that can be misused to serve their abhorrent designs. Al-Jazouli’s quoting the above-mentioned Hadith justifying wanton killing of civilians is not an isolated instance. Many more Takfiri-Wahhabi ideologues and militants have long been quoting and misinterpreting them. One such obnoxious instance was recently seen in a heated debate between a Pakistani army official and a Taliban scholar. Obviously, the Pakistan army official was not so well-versed in the Islamic sciences that he could theologically refute the TTP scholar’s filthy and nasty argument declaring all Pakistanis as Kafir (infidel) and thus justifying the murder of their women and children…. But the question remains: what responsibility does this disturbing phenomenon place on the mainstream moderate Ulema and Islamic scholars? Will they continue to remain silent onlookers at the brazen distortion of Islamic literature or take a courageous stance of refuting and rebutting it? Regrettably, while the extremists’ distortion and misrepresentation of the Qur’an and Sunnah are on the rise, we hardly find creditable and hard-hitting efforts to retort them on the sound and tenable theological grounds......

Why Eid-ul-Fitr Has Been Institutionalized in Islam?
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

The origin of Eid-ul-Fitr marks the Prophet’s ambition of spreading social cohesiveness, cultural festivity and national unity and solidarity. According to a hadith tradition, when the Prophet Muhammad arrived at the city of Madinah, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) strongly felt the need for a feast that could imbibe peace, unity, charity, brotherhood, equality and deep humane emotions for helping the poor. Therefore, having received the divine inspiration, the Prophet (pbuh) announced that "Almighty Allah has granted you two blessed Eids: Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha ..." Islam, Pluralism and Good-Neighbourliness: Do Muslims Follow Islamic Teachings?
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

Ramazan is more opportune time for Muslims to realise and demonstrate good-neighbourliness, which is an integral part of Ramazan and essential message of Islam. The holy Quran clearly says: “And treat the parents with moral excellence and (do good to) relatives, orphans, the needy, the close as well as unacquainted neighbours.” (Surah an-Nisa: 4:36).....

Fath-e-Makkah (the Conquest of Makkah) in Ramadan is a Reminder to Muslims of Marhamah (Forgiveness), Not Malhamah (War)
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

The event which happened on the 10th of Ramadan (11 January 630 AD) is a special reminder for the radical self-styled Islamists and jihadists who are inciting Muslims to engage in a continued Malhamah (revenge on enemies) to change their extremist attitudes and adopt the noble policy of Marhamah (forgiveness) enjoined by the Prophet of Islam (pbuh) ... See what a world of difference between the Prophet’s sublime behaviour and the present-day self-styled Islamists’ virulent treatment of Muslims from other sects.....

Jihadist Scholars Have Started Denying the Established Islamic Doctrine of Greater Jihad (Jihad Al-Nafs), Declaring It a Sufi-Invented Campaign against Jihadism
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

This is an instance of how the self-styled Jihadist scholars and radical zealots have started denying the established Islamic doctrine of greater Jihad blaming the Sufis for preaching it as a campaign against the rampant murderous Jihadism. They have now started to totally deny it to the extent of declaring all the Prophetic traditions (Hadees) in its favour as Maudu (fabricated) or Daeef (technically weak). Not only this, they are also rejecting or misinterpreting the Qur’anic texts establishing the beautiful concept of jihad al-Nafs, while the holy Qur’an has exhorted this spiritual Islamic Jihad against one's negative ego in various places .........

Have We Muslims Forgotten the Pious Promise Made by Prophet Muhammad to Christians?
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam
Those who see these dangerous radicals merely as a law and order problem should explain the rationale behind the mindless act of violence and wanton killing by the terror goons who went door to door asking residents if they were Muslim or spoke Somali - and shot them dead if their answer was 'no'. Nothing could be more appalling and ideologically lethal than the brutal incident of human killing inspired by an obnoxious religious zeal. One could gauge the gravity of this ideological fanaticism by what a mourning Christian woman, Anne Gathigi, a victim of the incident was quoted as saying: “They came to our house at around 8pm and asked us in Swahili whether we were Muslims. My husband told them we were Christians and they shot him in the head and chest.”....

As We are in the Month of Sha’ban and Ramadan is around the Corner, Let us Spiritually Prepare to Find a New Meaning in Life
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

One of the most loving attributes of God in Islam is that He gives us chances, a clean slate, a fresh start to purge our life of the grave sins we are prone to. As our life advances ahead, it gradually becomes replete with spiritual vices and moral deficiencies. But the all-loving God, al-Wadud (one of the 99 special attributes of Allah in the Qur'an) gives us relaxations and many opportunities throughout the life to reclaim the virtues of righteousness, purity, humility, piety and all the glorious personality traits that our first father Hazrat Adam was born with. Every year just ahead of Ramadan, we enter into the Islamic month of Sha’ban full of divine bounties, spiritual blessings and moral virtues. But instead of giving it a pass, as we Muslims casually do, we should recall the prime objective of Sha’ban being prelude to Ramadan, that is, to reclaim our true selves; our true nature upon which we were created....

Pakistani Jihadis' War Cry of Ghazwa-e-Hind Is Entirely Based On Concocted Ahadith: No Religious Sanctity attached to Terrorist Designs on India
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

... Does the above quotation of a top Pakistani cleric Maulana Irfan ul Haq remind you of something? Yes, an obviously concocted or misinterpreted Hadees against idol-worshippers of India that many extremist Islamists of Pakistan like the Maulana openly quote in their crazy bid to incite all Pakistanis to take arms against India and wipe out all idol-worshippers from the region. Needless to say that the word “idol-worshipper” includes in their exclusivist dictionary the overwhelming majority of Muslims who love and venerate the holy Sufi saints who brought Islam to South Asia. Like Maulana Irfan ul Haq, there are some more fanatic Maulvis and extremist political and religious ideologues in different parts of Pakistan who provide religious stimulus to breed terrorism and mindless violence against Indian citizens in general and our non-Muslim brethren in particular. However, many of us Indians might still not know what Ghazwa-e-Hind is and for what purpose it is being propagated. ... Going by any of the five basic criteria of checking the Hadith texts, there is no room for any obnoxious idea like the Ghazwa-e-Hind in Islamic theology.

‘Fitnah is worse than Killing’ Yes! But what is the Correct Qur'anic Meaning of Fitnah?
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

Cherry picking Qur’anic verses out of context has been a troubling trend set by the modern Kharjites (Wahhabis/Salafis/Talibanis/Jihadists and other religious extremists). They have long been misinterpreting the Qur'anic verses in their criminal bid to entrap gullible Muslims. They indoctrinate them into believing that Islam is a political, totalitarian, fascist, patriarchal, regressive and misogynist religion rather than a spiritual path to eternal salvation. .....

Church Attackers Will Not Smell Even the Fragrance of Paradise, Let Alone Entering It and Enjoying the Heavenly Bounties
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

In the presence of these unambiguous pro-minority Islamic teachings, the dastardly attack on humane and innocent Pakistani Christians praying in a church in Peshawar is a clear violation of Islam in a Muslim country. It is time all Muslim leaders of the world openly decry these vicious acts and ensure that such grave violations of Islam are not repeated anywhere in the Muslim world. Those claiming themselves to be Islamic countries should impose strict and exemplary punishments on the Muslim citizens who do not honour the rights of non-Muslims to life, religion and dignity. Any individual or group who indulges in such a heinous crime should be seen as the biggest enemy of Islam and humanity. In this regard, we should always remember the prophetic saying that “such people will not be able to even smell the fragrance of the paradise”, let alone entering it and enjoying divine heavenly bounties....

Jamaat-e-Islami's Founder-Ideologue Maulana Maududi’s Perspective on Jihad in Islam Contradicts the Basic Message of Qur'an: Jihad Is Only Permitted in Defence, Not to Establish Mullah Rule
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

Despite Maulana Maududi's view on offensive Jihad, the reality is that, the mainstream Islamic scholars, including those from the early Islamic period, have been of the opinion that Islam permits only defensive jihad. A number of moderate Islamic scholars, in recent past, have seconded the same view. The most noted among them were Shaikh Muhammad al-Ghazali, the renowned Egyptian scholar, Mufti Muhammad Abduh and his disciple Shaikh Rashid Rida, Abdur Rahman Azam, Allama Mustafa Sibai, Ahmad Amin, Mahmud Aqqad and the famous Indian scholar Maulana Ahmad Raza Khan, Shibli Numani etc. Even the Egyptian Islamic scholar Shaikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who is known for his Salafist influence and attachment with the Muslim Brotherhood, also shares the same view, as is outlined in his book “Fiqh al-Jihad”.....

Where Does Our Taqwa Go After The End Of Ramadan?
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

Ramadan is supposed to enliven Taqwa (righteousness and God-consciousness, the holy Qur'an, 2:183) deep down in our hearts, but where does our Taqwa live during the rest of the year until next Ramadan? The practice imbibes some significant moral values and draws spiritual influences on the minds of people. Mosques Being Razed In Timbuktu: Where Are Our Wahhabi Ulema Now?
Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi, New Age Islam

A centuries-old mosque being pulled down with pick-axes, shovels and hammers. Remind you of something? December 6, 1992, the day Babri Masjid was razed to the ground by Hindu kar sevaks. India went up in flames that day, and it is still nursing some of the wounds it then incurred. Almost the entire history of Islamist terrorism in India is traced back to―and justified by―what happened in Ayodhya 20 years ago. Our Saudi-trained Wahhabi ulema called upon our young to answer back in kind. Much the same is happening today in Timbuktu, northern Mali―only on a grander scale. A number of mosques and other Islamic shrines are being flattened by a horde of religious zealots in this historic “city of 333 saints”. ...

    Islam, Slavery and Saudi Arabia
    Ghulam Rasool, New Age Islam

Being the birthplace of Islam Saudi Arabia should have come to the fore to condemn and uproot slavery from world to fulfil the clearly expressed desire of the Prophet of Islam. But on the contrary, Saudi Arabia has been a hub for both female and male slaves trafficked for the purposes of involuntary servitude and commercial sexual exploitation. Men and women from a large number of countries including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sudan, Ethiopia are hired in Saudi Arabia as domestic servants or other low-skilled labourers, but many of them subsequently face inhumane restrictions and torments, withholding of passports, threats, physical and sexual abuse and non-payment of wages. ...

Why have Fatwas against Islamist Terrorism failed as A Counter-Terrorism Tool, Explains Sultan Shahin in a Conference in Birmingham, And Suggests the Kind of Fatwa Required

Numerous fatwas (edicts) have been issued by ulema (Islamic scholars) across the globe, particularly since 9/11 in a bid to stem the tide of Islamist terrorism. Tens of thousands of ulema have endorsed these fatwas issued by influential institutions of Islamic learning of all sects in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as other parts of the world. When issued, these fatwas inspired great expectations. As perceptive and insightful an observer as Mr. Ziauddin Sardar proclaimed “the beginning of the end of the war of terror” when a hundred thousand Deobandi ulema endorsed a fatwa issued by the hundred-year-old Islamic madrasa in Deoband, India, “unequivocally denouncing terrorism,” in June 2008. Similarly, Sufism-oriented Barailwis, hard-line Salafis, Ahl-e-Hadeesis, have all denounced Islamist terrorism in their separate or joint statements. But terrorist ideology continues to attract our youth, particularly in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. What used to be merely a Pakistan-sponsored secessionist struggle is showing signs of tuning into an Islamist struggle for the establishment of Islamic Sharia through a universal Caliphate, very much redolent of the objectives of the so-called Islamic State or ISIS.  Popularizing the slogan of “Shariatya Shahadat,” a militant leader Zakir Musa, Burhan Wani’s successor, even threatened to kill Hurriyat leaders for calling Kashmir’s separatist movement political and not religious. Calling them “hypocrites, infidels, followers of evil”, the militant had warned to chop off their heads to be hanged in Lal Chowk in Srinagar, “if they create hurdles in the path of making Kashmir an Islamic State”....
